Post-fight interview with Chelsea Hackett after her bout at PFL Belfast, conducted in Ireland on a card where hers was the only women's fight. Hackett says that spotlight amplifies women's talent in the PFL and notes this was her first trip to Ireland after roughly 60 hours of travel, which left her determined not to lose. She describes a cautious opening against an unnamed opponent she respected as a multiple-time champion in Mexico who was moving up to flyweight; Hackett, who says she is not the biggest flyweight, wanted to feel her opponent out because she had been out of the cage for two years and did not want to make rash decisions. She closes by urging women to try combat sports, calling it deeply fulfilling for confidence, self-defense, and voice, whether or not they compete.

All right, uh Jackie Push Up, congratulations. Uh my first question for you is that you're the only woman on the uh this is the only female fight tonight on the card. Uh how do you feel representing the women tonight? So good. I love that um we're the only fight. I feel like it just amplifies the the level of the female talent like in PFL and um obviously to do it here in Ireland, my first time here. Um yeah, no, I'm um Sorry. Can you guys hear my phone? >> [cheering] >> Um yeah, no, I yeah, it took me a long time to get here. Uh 60 hours of travel, so after that I was like, there's no way I'm losing this fight. Absolutely. Um at the very beginning of the at the very beginning of the fight there, you guys were really kind of testing each other out. What what what was was there a What was the hesitation in kind of really getting into the fight from the get-go? Were you just feeling each other out? >> Yeah, I think we're just feeling each other out, but um she's like got a great record and she's multiple time champion in Mexico. So like I knew that she wasn't a walkover. She was coming up in weight and I could really feel that in her. Like I you know, she was a smaller and I knew it was going to be a hard time for her coming up to flyweight. And I'm not the biggest flyweight, so um I knew if I could just feel her out that third round, I'd been out of the cage for 2 years. I really wanted to feel comfortable and not make any stupid decisions. That was my biggest reason. All right, all right, the last question for me. Um obviously the the sport is growing and then uh the involvement of women in the sport is increasing as well. What Uh what do you say to women uh to try to encourage them into competing in combat sports? Go for it. Like it is the most fulfilling dream I have I you could ever have. Like it is it gives you so many things as a female. It gives you confidence, it gives you defense self-defense, it gives you um uh like a voice. Like and it just gives you like like nothing compares to combat sports. Even if you just did it for fitness, um it's just yeah. I I don't I wouldn't know a life without it and I think every female should do it whether they want to compete or not. Yeah, thank you. I appreciate it very >> [music] [music] [music] [music]
