As >> always, as always, as always, as always, Basmo, we were uh on in different circumstances at the weekend. We were in the boxing world at the weekend. We went to Zupa Boxing 10 to see Aaron McKenna go and claim the IBF middleweight title. H Basmo Mon showed out in force for this one. when we we were going uh to the three arena, we were like, "Why is everyone in CAD jerseys?" And then I was like, "Oh, actually that's a Mon jersey. That makes sense." Um yeah, I'd say there was more people more Mon fans at uh the three arena than went to Crow Park this year. It was absolutely rampack with the Mon jerseys and rightfully so. First time Aaron and Stevie ever fought in the three arena. Super Boxer made that happen. Is that actually a bit tragic that no promoter had made made got them a fight in Ireland before before that this weekend? >> Yeah, I think it definitely was. Like looking at their fan base now, there was actually so many people there whereas because the lads had obviously they they were training the morning and then they went to they were over in America and then they were traveling around. They they didn't they weren't so known around Dublin or the rest of the country. In fact, actually, I'd probably go as far as saying, but but their talent was very is very very good and it's such a high level and that that makes them not a great fight for a lot of people cuz like it's like little name recognition with a with like a lot of talent. So, that's why a lot of people didn't want to fight these guys. But, um they're after going from like the wilderness to like the top of the pecking order at the moment. Especially the way Stevie with the knockout of the night, the most vital finish, and also Aaron becoming Ireland's newest world champion. >> Yeah, absolutely. And look, I I think one thing that was really really prevalent and evident this week was or this last week was the ability that Zufa has to promote fighters uh is absolutely sensational. like having Nina Drama do a a live live stream with Callum Waltz do a live stream with the McKenna brothers seeing them in the you know in the taxis going around talking about Irish culture and stuff like that I thought was really really cool I thought I really got to put a spotlight on these guys and that's that that's what they needed that's that's exactly what we're saying like uh Callum Stevie and Aaron like they're they're not going to blow you away with charisma when when they're speaking and now they're all getting better at it, but like it's not something that comes natural to them. They don't have this uh personality that would draw to them. But once they get in the ring, like they they do have fanfriendly styles, especially Stevie. Um Stevie obviously got I'm just going to call it knockout of the night uh over O'Neal. That was a huge knockout. Uh I've I've never seen someone punched so far. Uh massive size difference there as well. So uh shout out to for taking the fight in the first place. But uh Steven McKenna, you know, he's an absolute knockout artist. He's my favorite of the three to watch. H I think he's absolutely sensational. He's so aggressive. He throws everything with bad intentions and he's he's in there to win by KO every single time. Obviously, uh Callum Wall's fight, I think, was probably a lot closer than he thought it was going to be. Um took that sort of his knee touched the canvas in the first round. I wouldn't call it a knockdown. Then he got a massive knock knock down in the second round. Um, look, he got the job done, but I don't think it was the performance or as defendive as he would have liked it to have been. Basma, what what did you think of those two? >> Well, the starting on Stevie. Yeah, that was that knockout like actually just blew everyone away. It was so fast. There was people still people coming from Mon like that hadn't got there. So, that was like people were just walking in there just wearing the Mon jersey be like, "Oh, I missed it. I missed it." But um the like what you were saying about Stevie like that the the McKenna brothers Stevie started speaking out a lot during fight week saying he wants to fight Callum next and I I didn't see that coming. I didn't I thought the lads were all like team Ireland in a way but like he was calling out Callum and Callum had to like respond to these questions and he didn't seem too happy to have to say that he didn't want to fight Stevie as well. But even at the end Stevie got him the on on the mic in the ring started saying who wants to see me against Kum Walsh and everyone went mad. So, like they're getting better. Then, um, Colin Walsh, he he obviously went in, he fractured his his skull and also he broke one of his hands as well during the fight as well. So, that's why he didn't come and do a postwipe um interview with the media afterwards if people were looking and wondering why. >> Yeah, he got he had a bad quote as well. >> Yeah. So, he he took Well, you see the thing is the the head damage was obviously from a clash of heads. So like you can't really >> Yeah, but he took more damage in that fight than he probably took in all his fights combined, >> I'd say. So yeah, I'd say so. Yeah. Then >> so Steve obviously very impressive. Callum he got the win. See, each and every time he goes in, there's a lot of pressure because like Callum has he's a lot of a lot of people, not so not really so much Irish people, but more so the the UFC MMA community >> like wanting him to lose just so they can laugh and his face in a way. So there's a lot of pressure on him, but he doesn't he doesn't seem to really care about the pressure. I think he actually enjoys it. >> Yeah, I think he does. But I think he is motivated by trying to prove people wrong or silence the doubters. And look, it seems to be going well for him. And again, like you know, Tyler Denny was good opponent, you know, and it's not like he was finding a bomb. His last two or three opponents have been really like really big step steps up each time. So fair play to him. I think uh I think him versus Steve McKenna would be a really really good watch. So I I definitely want to watch it. >> What what do you think what do you think is more motivating? Like obviously Comm doesn't have any kids so like and he's not married. Like do you think like what would be more motivating than like proving the the haters wrong? >> Well, [snorts] I suppose he probably is sitting there thinking he wants to win a world title. So like maybe he's like well fight Aaron, you know. So maybe that's maybe that's his his his thought like if I'm going to fight one McKenna, I want to fight the one with the world title. >> No, but I mean just what what you think actually drives him at the moment? >> I'd say it's trying to become a world champion. >> Just the world title. Not not like I want to prove the haters wrong. I I'd say I'd say that's a nice feeling afterwards, but I don't think that's getting him up in the morning. >> Do you not know? Okay. Okay. So, you just think the world title. >> Yeah. >> I actually I think they want to try and be the best. You know what I mean? Like that's that's it. Like, you know what I mean? I think that's and I think that's the thing with the McKenna brothers, you know what I mean? Like yes, like anyone who gets that level is a prize fighter. They are obviously looking for financial reward for putting in performance like that, but at the end of the day, they want to be known as the best. they, you know, I think uh he's only the third ever Irish fighter to hold the middleweight title. So I think CB Collins, Andy Lee, and now uh Ar McKenna. So like that's that's what they want. They they want they want the glory. And obviously the financial reward nowadays will come with that to what extent you know a lot of that is down to what you do outside the ring and how promotable and marketable you are. But I think with Zu fora boxing, I think they can do a lot of the heavy lifting for the McKenna brothers. They can put them in those spots like like we've seen like they put them in with the WE guys. They put them in with Nina Drama. They're really really promoting them and they're look I don't know. Is that is that the first is that the first title now that uh Zufa has first world title that's been like won by a Zufa fighter that they didn't like acquire. I think it is. >> Yeah. I thought that title was actually going to be for the Zufa world title. Yeah, I wasn't too sure because I've seen that we've seen the Zufa boxing belts. I'm not too sure what way they're going to establish that. Maybe maybe if you know his next fight will be for the Zufa boxing world title as well. I I'm not too sure. I think you know I know Dana said that originally they weren't going to fight under the you know the IBF and the WBA and the WBO and the WC and whatever other letters you want to put out there. He said they were going to fight for their own belts, but uh at the end of the day, it might be harder to get the challengers if you're not putting up the other belts just yet. Like maybe it's maybe they're a bit in their infancy in terms of boxing promoting. But uh again, like it was incredible to see and like it was great to see some of the Irish boxers on the card. Uh Connor Coyle from Jerry uh went the distance, but uh very handily won his fight. And then Joe Ward, man, fight of the night. Unbelievable fight. That was sensational. uh the back and forth from that I don't know how neither man man uh properly hit the canvas and was out for the count that that those lead left uppercuts that he was peppering with were absolutely sensational. So uh really looking forward to seeing him fight again and a lot of a lot of boxing fans you know some of these guys might be new to them as well. So, it's cool to to see that. And um obviously main event Ar McKenna make middleweight boxing great again. Um he's getting in there. He he look and look he could have he's he was cutting good promos this week. Like fair play to him, you know what I mean? Like you said, he um I'm not hard to find, but I am hard to beat. So, uh you know, I mean, they can all come get it. uh which I love to see because I think that middleweight division ever since I sort of lost uh Canelo and Triple G has sort of missed out a bit on star power and missed out a bit of you know name recognition and Ar McKenna is trying to call the hard fighters out call people out who he's trained with before bit of Mim Bill's backstory and look I think uh Zufa Boxing really uh laid down a marker there obviously we had um Queensbury last week and then in a couple of weeks time we'll have Katy Taylor and Crow Park, but Irish boxing is absolutely thriving at the moment. It's great to see and what's really really good is it's given a lot of the fighters the power. H obviously the promotions are fighting for the uh fighter power, but if you're a fighter and you're on the up and up and you're a hot prospect, all three of those places want you, but who can do most for you? And that's where that's where the guys will end up. >> I agree. I agree. Yeah. >> And like I think it's going to be huge. And I think Zufa will acquire a lot of talent. I think uh they're in their building phase and I think what we will see from September onwards is where the cards will fall for Irish boxing and I think Zufa Boxing is more than willing to come back here time and time again. Uh also I think with them announcing WWE on the 25th of January for 2027, we can we can get into that now shortly. like why not to host Zuva Boxing on that Saturday or Sunday and have a show then? I'd be here for it. I think it's a a smart idea from them. If they're already going to have some of the personnel there, do the Zufa boxing on Saturday on the 23rd and then put on WWE on the 25th. You know what I mean? Why not? Or if you really want to make the fans happy, UFC comes back on the 25th and you do Zua boxing on the 26th and then you do WWE. But uh the roadies will not like us having to change change around that uh staging day after day after day. They will not be happy >> compar like I'm here for but like >> do a few bits. I think it's uh definitely definitely worthwhile doing. Uh but Zufa Boxing seemed to uh have a bit of a growl for for the Emerald Oil and uh we're definitely here for it. All the big ones were over for Basmo. >> Yeah, like I think that's a a fair amount of time [snorts] for Aaron and Colin to heal up and then obviously Steviey's ready to go next week, man. >> Yeah, >> he's already main event if he needed to. Yeah, but the thing is I'm liking this new McKenna brothers like sort of like just give giving it as good like as good as they they want, you know, just getting on the mic and just being like we're here to take everything lads cuz they like they've literally gone like like from under the radar to over the radar like it's >> Yeah. from like walking Finn Balor to Jose Enrique giving them like a specially made Liverpool championship belt, you know what I mean? So, we're sitting there and all of a sudden he walks through the door and board of directors TK TKO global board of directors WWE board of directors for boxing. the one and only Nick K walks through the door, send the olive branch say, you know, welcome to Ireland. We need to bring the UFC back here. And he goes, and then he turned to me and goes, are you guys coming in January? And then we said, well, I don't know. Do you want us there? And he said, absolutely. So, looks like we're going to Raw on the 25th of January, the Energized show. Let us know if you want to do us to do like a WWE show in the buildup to it. Could be funny. Uh, we've done a Wrestlemania show with Al For. Could have him on. He'd be buzzing for that. But, uh, yeah. Um, his guys got on to our guys, aka me and Baz and uh, yeah, we're invited to the show in January. So, can't wait for that. But, uh, Nick Han, lovely guy. Met his son as well. His son's a lovely kid. Um he's he's a big Roman Reign fans. Roman Reigns fan. H we were asked who our favorite wrestler was. I said Finn Balor obviously because uh you up the Irish probably would have said Sheamus but uh he got got fired. So uh didn't want to say that but do love Sheamus. Hopefully they bring him back for Dublin. That'd be cool. >> But uh yeah, Basma you excited for WWE Raw? >> Yeah. No, it was cool cuz he Nick Han actually left and then he sent one of his um >> colleagues >> assistants. one of his assistants in. >> Well, no, I don't think he's I wouldn't call him assistant. I think he's like your man's like the VP for like for Yeah. Yeah. Know your man your man's like the serious >> Well, okay. Well, he came in looking for us anyway. Like he's the guy when it goes to WWE like >> Well, I I suppose I suppose either you're either on Nick Nick's level or slightly below it. So like you have to slow below the level, but no, he's he's definitely a he's definitely a player in the mix. >> Yeah. So my point is basically I was like what if media could like what type of media work are we going to do at WWE Raw? So we're going to find out in January. So overall, I have to say that the Zuba boxing event was great. That like the way they look after you, the like there's just it's like a three course meal as well. Like it's >> Yeah, they actually just kept on making food. I was like, "Stop with it." >> No, it was actually No, it was unbelievable. >> Yeah. No, it was really really good. Everyone looked after us really really well. Uh happy with the show. Show show went off well without a hitch. I know there was a big curuffle about the broadcast. There was more people at the fight than there was and I don't think there was any malison or whatever. And then also like to me like the the show was sold out for what tickets were available. So I thought it was really really cool. And yeah, shout out to Boxing like for their 10th show to come over to Ireland and have a world title fight. That was pretty cool. >> Yeah. And Irish people get paid. That's And it was a great night out for the Irish as well. Beautiful day out as well. >> And and shout out to Shauna Bannon as well going on uh the kickstream with Nina Drama. That that's pretty cool. Like that's that's great for her. >> Yeah. Yeah. That that that definitely helped her as well. >> Yeah. her and Becky Lynch doing that uh Q&A as well. I thought that that was cool. I think that's that's great for her profile. And at the end of the day, you have the the trailblazer in Irish MMA and the trailblazer in Irish professional wrestling, Becky Lynch. Like I think that's cool. >> Yeah. And like obviously if Dana >> D if Dana sees the fans gone bananas, he's like here, I have to bring the UFC back here as well. But like they kept referencing that they're going to be coming back again and again with the boxing. So that's that's deadly. That's that's just big nights out for everyone. And the tickets I think were around 50 as well. So like come on that's that's a good night from me 60 like >> for world pole fight. >> Um speaking of Irish boxing the one and only Kefir Crosby returns to the ring this August the 15th in Manchester on Darren Hills gorilla fight night. Ross >> Kefir is back in action man. One and all as a pro. >> He is indeed. Yeah. Look I'm looking forward to it. Look, obviously, you know, we want to see Kefir stay in combat sports. I think he's too good to sort of put down the gloves. He he's going in in against Jimmy Justice, who is a bare knuckle or BKFC former fighter. So, it's not like he's going in there against his scrub. He's going in there against someone who knows how to scrap and is willing to throw down. I'm interested to see how it goes. I think uh by the looks of it from a training perspective, Keer's putting his heart and soul into this camp. He seems to be living in the gym at the moment. I think it's good for his head. I think it's good for Irish boxing and like let's let's see him. I I love if he sort of stayed on that side of the boxing side with, you know, fight other MMA guys. Maybe he does, you know, maybe fights in um Jon Jones Dirty Boxing. Maybe he fights on Misfits. Maybe he fights on MVP shows. I'm here for that. Like I I want to see him fight against other combat. Like I wouldn't mind seeing him fighting a few other MMA guys. Like I think him versus Mike Perry in a box match I think will be very entertaining. I think him versus Nate Diaz will be very very entertaining. I think those sort of things will be really really cool to watch. >> You said Jon Jones is dirty boxing. Do you mean Jorge Masel or does Jon Jones have one? >> No, Jon Jones owns dirty boxing as well. >> Oh really? Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Interesting. >> So yeah like like would it be cool TK for in BKFC? Yes, but like I think that I think the pay has to be right for to get him in BKFC because that's that's hard on the body, you know, >> you know yourself. >> Yeah. No, >> so yeah. So that key keer is back this weekend. We'll be keeping you up to date with all the action. Um then we have to talk about it this weekend in the world's mixed martial arts. The UFC returns is going down UFC 330 in Pennsylvania. Ross as Ireland's own Ian Mashado Garry takes on Islam Makachev for the world welterweight title. Ross huge huge fight for Irish MA. And the thing is will there be another Irish fighter that will fight for a world title in the UFC as well. >> It could be a while before we see it. Look, obviously Ian Machado, Gary, um, fighting out of Ireland. Ireland versus Dagistan three. Um, let's see, can Ireland get a score on the board? Obviously a really tall task. Islam Makachev, poundfor-pound, number one fighter in the world. Looked unbelievable at lightweight and has now looked unbelievable at welterweight. Went in there and dispatched Jack Delena to capture the belt and I think it's going to be a really hard task for Gary. I think, funny enough, they're both the perfect styles to beat each other, if that makes sense. If you were to come up with a fighter to beat Ian Machado Garry, you'd probably describe someone like Islam Mcichev. And if you were to come up with a fighter to beat Islam Makv, you'd probably come up with someone like Ian Machado Garry. So, it's going to be really, really interesting to see how this plays out. Ian Garry obviously has been really really successful in by winning fights via decision his last couple of fights. Um he's no problem winning a sort of strategic battle. He has that really high fight IQ and then obviously Islam Makachev the last time we saw him in any bit of trouble was against an Alexander Vulcanowski. So let's see if Gary can take anything from that and see if he can make that happen. Now obviously Islam was able to sort of obviously won against the Falcon obviously first time but he was able to write the wrongs go in there and finish him the second time out. So Islam Machev looks really really dangerous at the moment. I think his striking is always improving. His grappling is as elite as they come and I think it's going to be a tall task for Gary. I think he's going to have to use his length. I think he's going to have to use his striking and I think uh a lot of it's going to be based down on range. Obviously the better he controls the range and the further he can stay and uses uses length obviously he has better chance of defending the taked down if they get in close and get you know if he gets Ian up against the fence and stuff like that and he's able to use that chain wrestling I think that's what's going to make it a really tough night for um for Ian Garry and look a lot of times people will watch the Dagistani wrestling style it's not always the initial shot that gets the job done It's the multiple shots that eventually make it happen and he eventually get to take takedown and look we've seen is on Makv he can keep a high pace as well. So, uh I don't think there's a a benefit for either in cardio. Just obviously if Ian does get taken down repetitively over the first two or three rounds, how will Ian's cardio look come round four and five? >> That's that's [clears throat] a great breakdown to be honest, bro. You know, I don't like hyping you up with those like like how much better wrestling is is on Makachev than Bal Muhammad because Ian did well very well against Bal. >> Oh, I would say substantially better. >> And also, how good is Ian Ian's jiu-jitsu off his back as well? I don't think it was absolutely outrageous last time, wasn't it? >> Look, I think it's very high level. I think it is very, very good. But then again, like is Machev's gone in there and submitted Charles Oliver? I know that that's you know I mean he's he's also submitted Dustin Porg you know I mean is is L Machev or is he in Garry's jiu-jitsu better than all those guys but definitely not better than Charles Alvar or yeah Charles Alvara so like [snorts] you can sort of call it whatever way you want but like islam at this age like he's 28 he's 28-1 and a win here will will time with Kabib's uh wins. Now, I know obviously Islam Makv has lost a fight, but he's also gone up and won the belt in two different weight classes, and a win here would mean he would have defended the belt in two-way classes, which very very very few people have actually done. I think Daniel Cormier is the only person who comes to mind to uh have done that. So at the end of the day, I think he he looks dangerously good like and he is looking for the finish the entire fight as well. He really is like it was halfway through the fifth round when he finished Dustin Porier. So >> well also Ian with a win becomes Ireland's most winningest. >> Yeah. When Ian's going to become Ireland's most winningest fighter no matter what whether he wins or loses uh this fight because he'll he he'll win more two more fights easily in his UFC tenure. like that's that's inevitable as he likes to say, but uh can he go in there and lift the belt? And then like even if he is not successful with the win, you know, if he lost in the same fashion that he lost to Shavcat, he'd probably be another win away from getting another title shot, you know. >> Oh, he's going to be sniffing around the whole time, man. >> 100%. And like that that division is super hot at the moment with Carlos Patches, with Michael Morales, you know, man. I think it's a an absolutely frighteningly hot division. And look, Islam Machev's 34. >> How many how many more fights is he going to have in that in that division? >> And there's lots of talks like >> put it this way, >> who would actually favor Islam Machev or Sean Strickland. I think a lot of people would think Islam Machev would be able to go up the middleweight and win that belt as well. Well, the thing is um like Ian doesn't drink or smoke as well >> or eat meat >> like >> or eat meat. I don't know how much that's actually going to help you though in fairness to the meat situation, but like like obviously Islam doesn't eat either. So, >> eat pork. >> Yeah, but then it also Oh, yeah. No, I think he eats meat but not pork. Yeah. Okay. But but just you have to also consider like how healthy how healthy will both lads be going into the cage as well. It's not as if this is like an absolute ride off for like you know I mean as you said >> he's very good at getting the job done and he will get it done even if it's not spectacular. What's going to be said? Will it be on RT News? Like we remember when I was picking up the other day, they were saying on the radio and stuff like it was like everyone it seemed like it seemed like everyone was mentioning it but no one was talking about it. So like with the Ian situation, what is going to be said? >> Yeah. More people are talking about Ian Gary's family in Ireland than they are talking about him fighting for the world title. >> Yeah. >> So like >> be interesting to see like would he come back and do a tour in Dublin? Like will he >> who knows? Who knows? Tell me this. Right. Obviously Ian Garry's pure is not where he'd like it to be or you know I mean he's not beloved across Ireland the way he probably should be fighting for a world title, right? If I think of any other Royish MMA fighter was fighting for a world title, maybe Bar McGregor h anyone else on the up and up like >> every every everything is like bar McGregor now you. >> Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Well, obviously, you know, McGregor has a lot of um detesters in this country as well, and I Gary is not the most loved in the country in terms of uh the general consensus. >> But anyone else who was fighting like I think the entire country behind them, they'd be on the cover of every newspaper. >> The Sean like Sean. Yeah. >> Exactly. Yeah. So, if if you if they went, "Right, Baz, we need your help. How do we get people to get behind on liking Gary?" What would you do? >> This is your new job. You're you're getting paid 100 grand for the year to get people to fall in love with Ian Gary again. >> I get them to the to start doing comedy shows. >> Like start watching comedy, listen to comedy. Only listen to comedy podcasts and like try and become funnier because everything's so like like >> you're going to be Brendon Chab, right? I think that would have a lot more Irish fans backing. I think the fact that whether whatever narrative you want to believe, whether it's Ian's or the other places, the fact that people say Ian Gary's been kicked out of like six six or seven gyms, the fact that like he was like kicked out of KF first, I think makes them sort of right. It's more like, you know, if you got caught drink driving in several different countries and uh, you know, the first time he did it was probably [snorts] the the, you know, you can't really deny it, you know, when you're over in America getting doing it, you know. >> Not the best uh best uh example, but like do >> you think Chris Fields is going to stay up for the fight? >> I feel like Chris Fields is going to stay up for a lot of the UFC fights. I feel like what he'd be a watch the next day guy because he's got a family. So, I'm going to say no, but I'm sure he will watch it. >> Okay, here's another question. In Of course, he's gonna watch it. Yeah. Um, how many? Okay, obviously say 20,000 people follow us on Instagram, right? So, say 12,000 them are Irish, right? Maybe less, maybe 10,000, something like that. >> Out of that 10 out of that 10,000 Irish [snorts] combat sports fans, how many people do you think are going to stay up and watch Ian fight at 5:00 a.m. this Saturday, the 15th of August? Like that's that's where Ian Gary first got his like personal blemish on his on his reputation, >> right? And like because [snorts] he hasn't been in Ireland and because he hasn't really I know he's done a small bit of training SPG like he hasn't won back the Irish MMA community. >> I I didn't see any footage of that. >> Yeah. Well like isn't there always people giving out saying you know don't record Ian Garry's footage all the time. Well look I know the in Gary that uh came to my few times and who for a long time was the most frequent guest on the Energiz show time week in week out. Um, look, I always thought he was a good kid and obviously as time's got bigger and times moved on, uh, he has less and less time for the Irish media. It always wants to be very controlled and on their terms. And look, I still wish him the best. I hope he beats Islam Mcachev. I never never change that opinion, but at the end of the day, um, yeah, I I just feel like the his relationship with Ireland is next to non-existent really. I know he c he might call it home but and he'll say he's flying the flag but there's very few Irish people over here who are saying he's flying the flag for him as an Irish person I wish him all the best and I want them to win but I think that's that's how it is. It's just it feels very uh like look me and you are massive Irish MMA fans and it doesn't feel like someone's fighting for an MMA to a world title this weekend especially in the biggest organization in the world just doesn't feel it. There's no coverage about it. There's no media coverage about it. He was in Dublin for the week. He didn't want do one bit of media uh in the build up for the fight. You know, he was in Dublin. He could have stayed and been at Zu for boxing and got a bit of a rub nowhere to be seen. Could have came and actually faced the media at Zu for boxing and that would have killed a lot of birds there. Would have been great. >> Yeah. >> Didn't happen. There's something that is driving him more than just >> there's just something there's something that hopefully he gets to where he wants he's he wants to get to and I think it's something just beyond the world title.
