Combat Confidential speaks with Charlie Ashmore immediately after his bout at Gladiateire Fighting Championship 1. Ashmore confirms he finished with a submission—described as a naked choke—and says he was happy to get the win in the second round rather than go to a third. He describes debut nerves, gassing quickly in the first round after swinging hard, and fighting with no set game plan once the cage closed. He did not study his opponent much because the opponent also had no prior fights. The fight was light heavyweight; Ashmore says he weighed 91 kg coming in. Most of the action stayed on the feet with boxing and kicks, though corner Miles urged him to wrestle and Ashmore heard but did not feel it was the right moment. He recounts taking a shot that swung him without being stunned, landing an accidental groin strike the referee asked him to clean up, and taking away a taste of what he can do with hopes to keep his head better next time. He plans to fight again and would rather drop toward 88 kg or maybe middleweight. He credits Comet Sports with discipline and fun, and encourages newcomers to train even if they never compete.

[Music] everyone. Um, welcome back, uh, Gladiator, uh, fighting championship. Um, please welcome Mr. Charlie Ashmore. Uh, look, man, uh, congratulations on that fight. That was is interesting. Um, well, first of all, congratulations on your submission, but you locked in that naked, correct? Yeah. Yeah. And he felt he did hold it out for a while. I was kind of surprised because it was tight like but he he put up a good fight. Absolutely. Um what what were you feeling kind of coming into this? I didn't really know what to feel. It was just I was looking forward to it and nerves kind of keeping in there today. But yeah, I was looking forward to it. Right on. Right on. Mind. Did you Did you um did you study your opponent much? Sorry. Uh, no. So, he had no fights either. So, okay. It was was any man's game. Virgin territory for the parab. Absolutely. Uh, now the first round you both looked tired. Yeah. Know, I think it was the nerves like Yeah. Know you just feel the jitters. You don't feel you don't feel yourself. And then just went out swinging and both of us was kind of gassed out, you know, like quickly. Could you could you hear your coach? Could you hear Miles back there? Good. Yeah, just about. It's hard to listen, you know, and it's hard to listen. Absolutely. Constra. Um, so what what was it like as soon as that uh uh as soon as the cage closed and you know the ref said it's on? It's just there's no getting over there. What uh you know, what were you thinking? Did you have a plan kind of coming into this? No. No. No. Did you make one up as soon as the ref said, "Let's go?" No. Just went out and did whatever felt natural. I just went out swinging. Really? Very good. Um, uh, for the most part it was on the feet, uh, striking, do some boxing, uh, several kicks, uh, from your opponent there. Um, what what would normally would you prefer to stay on your feet or do you like being on the ground? I don't mind. I don't mind. Yeah. Yeah, I don't mind. Whatever. What weight were you guys fighting at today? Light heavy. Light heavy. Okay. So, that's 92 or Okay. I was 91 coming into the fight. Very good. Um, I was going to say, uh, okay. So, you're able to to take this in the second round? Yeah. How does that feel? Like, do you wish it kind of would have went into a third round or are you happy that it uh ended as soon as it was? If I knew I was going to win, I wouldn't mind it going into the third, but Okay. I'm happy. I'm happy enough to finish at the two. Right on. Right on. Um, you know what's crazy is, uh, or what's funny is, um, every time like I come to shows like these, uh, I always get like that itch to get back in the cage and fight. Um, but then I see fellas such as yourself who are relatively near my weight category, and I saw you two in there just throwing hammers at each other, and I'm like, I'm good. No, I loved watching the the the big guys. And then um um, you were ramming each other into the wall. I thought the cage was going to come down. Hold on. One second. Yeah. Take tech take me around a bit after long time. Um could like um Miles kept saying to you to use your wrestling to wrestle. Um when he was telling you that like did you hear him say that or what were you thinking? I heard it and then it just didn't feel like the right time. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Now, um if I remember correctly, um I don't know maybe if maybe you felt this or not. I thought there was a pretty good shot to the back of your head. I sent me to the ground. Yeah. just whatever. Did that Did that Excuse me. Did that do much damage or It was not that I was stunned. It's just whatever way I was standing, it just kind of swung me. Yeah. Okay. Okay. But then you got him back. Yeah. Um a bit of a groin shot there. And obviously that looked accidental and I would obviously assume it was. But um what were you thinking in that moment? Did you think you were going to get docked anything? I just felt like a dick. Yeah. I didn't mean it like No, it happens. It happens. Um, what did the ref say to you? It looked like he said just kind of like don't worry about it. Um, no. He kind of said just clean it up a bit. Fair enough. Like Yeah. No, obviously I didn't mean I just I think he just took a step back when I went to throw and it just great. Yeah. No, it it it happens. Um, and you can almost always see the intentional ones, you know, like they're so blatantly obvious. But, uh, look, like what's what's the key takeaway from for you from this fight? I think this one I got a taste of what I can know. Maybe hopefully next time keep my head a little bit better. Yeah, just stick to it. I'll be out hand there. So there's definitely going to be a next time then. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. Awesome. Um are you are you going to try and stay at this weight? Are you going to try and move down a little bit? I think I I'd rather fight 88 or maybe midweight even. Midway. Right on. Yeah, I'm not sure. Let's see. Excellent. Okay. So, um so I didn't properly introduce myself. So, my name's Tony. I'm uh I host my podcast called Combat Confidential. And one of the things I like to do in my show is um um I like people to tell me kind of like the what Comet Sports has done for them to help them out personally. So, can you can you give me just like one one thing that uh that Comet Sports has done to help you out? Anything. Just it's just fun. It's just fun. Just fun. Obviously the um the easy ones are like discipline obviously just all those it's not discipline is not an easy answer for sure. No discipline is very difficult. So absolutely but definitely discipline and just Okay. Um if you could give kind of like uh one piece of advice or um if you could tell someone one thing about combat sports what would it be? Just get into it, man. Just do it. Just go to a few friends. It's not that bad. Like uh like it's fun. You're going to love it. Anyway, you're going to love it. Even you don't have to compete. Like just go and train. You're going to have fun. Right on. Right on. All right. Look, man, I appreciate your time and congratulations. Um look forward to seeing you fight again. All right, man. All right. Thanks a lot. Appreciate it. confidential. Let's go.
