a good one you know what i mean ruthless oh did you watch ryan's voice yeah we were watching it was actually um during one of our training sessions so we had to stop everything we were doing we put the phone up on the mat and we were watching watching his fight you know what it was it was it was a rough night out from um but you know what fair play to him his first ever pro fight he took on a seriously tough competitor and slim trippy is no joke uh anyone who's uh you know showing france and ghani when cyril gone how to wrestle knows what to do olympian and you know what i mean just shows close show ryan's plan takes on all comers yeah it wasn't it was not an easy first fight like a lot of people kind of just take you know they take easy first fights or whatever and build themselves up bro it's blind's play fell through he he's been leading it like he he's been waiting to fight for so [ __ ] long same as myself like he's been waiting for it for so long over covered and everything he's got that he had that bellator contract for a long long time he was waiting to fight waiting and uh that fell through or whatever you know kazakhova bellator iron coming to europe for a while so they had to they decided to let him fight in another organization for now um so then he got a scrap on battle arena then your man got covered his whole gym got covered so um splan just he wanted a fight so he took this fight even though it was very very tough on on short notice as well so fair play to him yeah shout out to lfl that was actually a great organization but obviously your best mates are like i'll live we're going to get into your play and don't worry about that but like obviously you're best mates who are ryan what was i like seeing him like go in there after all that time and then not not coming away with the victory like does that does that how does that influence your mind coming up to your fight this sunday on comeback global it was tough watching him lose because i know like how much work he's put in in the last over the last couple of years like it especially when it comes to like his strength condition he's completely transformed like his body you know um health and fitness i'm actually working with them as well at the moment um so yeah he it's it was heartbreaking seeing the fight call it that way but it is hit me back stronger yeah as a wise man once said you win or learn um tell us this you're out in mexico city at the moment you're signed by combat a global barrier i bet you you didn't know this do you know who campbell mclaren is there's something got to do with anthony isn't it no campbell mclaren is actually and the ceo of combate global and he is the original founder of the ufc so uh there's a bit of history for people out there who are watching and so this man knows exactly what he's doing and knows exactly how to run an organization yeah thanks for probably on the spot there by the way definitely no worries man uh well pat this is predominantly known for sort of latin america and south american and latino fighters how did a lawyer's man from cork end up in mexico trying to fight in a combat global event yeah so um it's a long story basically they're looking they're they're trying to they're like a south american um kind of um company like latin americans all right so they they're like trying to break into north america so and europe so they're trying to they're doing a foreign tournament with european fighters and um they wanted like uh the fighters have at least five fights on their pro records um so they're asking around um paulo d one of the guys in spg cork who does a podcast with my coach liam and they he he was always in contact with cameron mclaren over the past few years so um he got in contact with campbell told him that myself and ryan were waiting to get a fight for a long long time and to see if we could get on the card and liam first of all put my name forward and cam was straight up they said no that i was a debut i didn't have enough fights on my record um so they looked around couldn't get any matches or in ireland so liam put my name for it again and um he really fought my corner to get me in he got he got uh got me to get all my boxing records my all my um muay thai records everything like all my fights i've ever done over the years even though they're amateur we got them all together um sent them to the athletic commission um and they accepted it so i i got the fight then geez that that's some going fair paid milk really did fight your corner and that's what you want to see from your fighters ross obviously we've been trying to get power on for ages and we're just waiting until this like fight was properly lined up and then like the amount of change in power like like you must be like thank god it's happening this week like you know i know i know i didn't want to believe it until it actually happened like i you know it's been through so much so i didn't want to get my hopes up until i actually got here so now it's really really going to happen so i'm very excited yeah i think since the pandemics happened you've had five flights maybe fall out and how does that affect your mindset because obviously not only your mindset but like you're sort of getting your body ready to peak at a certain stage and obviously each setback you mean you almost have to take your foot off the gas a little bit how does that affect you yeah uh physically not not a lot because you know i'm training all the time anyway it doesn't really i don't really find it that hard with the whole peeking thing obviously it was annoying cutting weight and then like three days before a fight it gets pulled yeah it's annoying but like it's it's more mental than anything um there's been so many bullets it was it is what it is like it's been a tough year for everybody and nothing's been like set in stone for the past year everything's kind of been all over the place so it is what it is like i've just been kind of one fell through i go okay on to the next one onto the next one onto the next one finally we're here and i couldn't see anywhere online but do you have an opponent for uh this sunday yeah so it's actually a four man tournament so there's um there's four of us in it there's a french guy an italian guy um a spanish guy and an irish guy so you're going to beat you before that's walking through what he asked for i um i i got a the spanish guy first so he's um his name is something some spanish name anyway um we've looked at his fights like on paper i'm i'm probably the easiest fight like all the boys probably want to try and get me i'm a debut they all like the felt line fighting is is eight and three as a pro so he's eight wins and three losses which is a big enough like a there's a lot of pro fights there yeah that's a lot um especially for fighting someone in their debut yeah yeah yeah so but i've had he's had uh like maybe one or two amateur fights i've had 15 amateur fights in mma i've had a lot of novice fights i've had a lot of boxing fights i've had a lot of muay thai fights kickboxing fights so i'm actually way more experienced than all these guys um but when it comes to like pro my pro record i'm zero zero right now well i'm i'm fully confident going in that i'm way more experienced than all these guys even though they're older um it doesn't bother me yeah russ obviously like from following the game for a long long time like if you don't take these shots you don't get the big opportunities look at like a moutinho or shauna molly their reason he's now like one of the most known porters on the roster like you don't mean if you don't take these shots you don't get you if you don't you don't bet big you don't win big yeah but hopefully yeah par doesn't take the matino block all the punches with his face [Laughter] no i didn't mean like that but you know what i mean you take these chances that you give it and then you win big you know definitely and i think i think that's something that you have to do in this game i think um you know conor mcgregor came up with this brilliant phrase on us roy saying you don't get ready you stay ready and i think when you're young in your career and you just turn pro you have to stay ready um i know uh jose shorty torres he was um when he saw into the ufc he got like he kept on being offered short in all those fights and that really didn't sit well with him and but at the time he wasn't staying ready he was saying he was there he was there winning the fights and then eating like a pig so uh you can't you can't really be at that starting i mean like you have to review yourself as a professional athlete which i'm sure you do and now you've teamed up with booga as well that's definitely got to work out in your favor well come here your voice is in miami correct correct [ __ ] well you're in mexico at the moment why are you in mexico and not in miami yeah because uh so you're not allowed like flying right from ireland to america yet with covert so you have to do 14 days it was either canada or mexico um and uh obviously kobach had like uh media and things like that in mexico so we flew to mexico two weeks uh locked in the hotel room we're just going from the hotel room to the gym training and back to the hotel and that's pretty much it that's it that sounds like the ultimate photography doesn't it pretty much yeah it's like we got we they got to stay the first few days was very very hard because we hadn't like we had a tv and everything was in spanish and we couldn't even like uh we had no um chromecast we couldn't put anything on the tv was just spanish tv all the time so we got um one of our one of the feathers looking after us diego he got his friend to rent us his playstation so we have a playstation here and we're just living on that basically a lot by 10 uh ten dollars there 140 dollars you didn't offer a free link to your point now yeah ten percent of the purse it's like you're getting ten percent of the burst yeah she's gonna buy he's gonna be playing station five now with that one oh yeah yeah i was snapping because that's daddy's like ten dollars a day i was like yeah that says grand and then he came back to me he's like yeah it's a hundred and forty dollars i was like [ __ ] i didn't do the math so so pacma here like i'll see your phone on august the first on sunday on compatibility global like this obviously a huge opportunity for yourself and i'm sure everyone's checking out now and they're like hell do i get to watch this pub will you let us know exactly how people can get to tune in and around what time you're fighting as well yeah so it's actually on airsport in ireland so i'm finally on august 1st um which is sunday coming um but it'll be obviously it'll be in america so it'll be on very very late so i think it's being shown on airsport the next day around midday um i'll post it on my on my social medias anyway um to let everyone know what like exactly what time it'll be on the next day yeah is there is there any links for it or is it just air sport uh i know air sport is streaming in ireland like playing in ireland but i i'm sure i'll find a live link as well for those of you yeah if there is any law if there is a live link it will be will be down in the boiler right now yeah so uh tell us this uh obviously you're fighting a spanish dude i don't know who he is you seem to watch a bit of tape on them and where did you see yourself having the advantages and how did you yourself get in this storm he's like this long kind of tall lanky skinny fella from um from spain he's like a neil magney type yeah he like he's like he's like a thai boxer kind of fella okay and he's not he's not very impressed with us to be honest he's like i i've never been so confident from being that fight really i think i'll probably be able to knock them out do you have two fights in one night then or do you have to come back again if you win yeah so uh if i win when i win it would be one five minute round the first fight so you basically have to go bust away for five minutes and win that round yeah and then when you win that um you get medically cleared and go fight again i don't know what the time is in between it or whatever but i'm assuming it's an hour or so go fight again and then yeah then there's a champ that's not a big opportunity then isn't it two or two or more night you know yeah so it's actually a big deal for our german as well because then obviously right now how's someone trying to ring it i'm the first um the first irish person to fight on the show and they have a cup at the end of the year and the winner gets a hundred grand his name and tournament so you fight you fight it one night before you put it four times and if you win you get 100 grand and i obviously thought the winner of this foreign tournament they said my country would get a spot in the in the eight man tournament at the end of the year so i obviously thought i was going to get a spot in that a-man tournament but um so we looked into it and it turns out it's actually not even um for my weight division the tournament is at 125 pounds so when i win any 125 pound fighter is an island you can be scrambling to get that swag for that 100k um grand prix and if you win you better give me a [ __ ] cut of it 20 20 not 10 this time yeah maybe uh maybe someone like blaine o'driscoll or something you could give a call you know because you need someone's going to win it as well that's true yeah there's a few good uh flyweights uh jerry harris is uh i don't know if you know he's not probably yeah yeah i'm sure pat that's actually that's actually made things way more exciting i knew you're obviously fighting once but like a double dose of palahan on the the fur augs the first what more do you really want for us yeah exactly yeah i think it's a very interesting format one round and that might change people's game plans uh obviously and this guy i don't know if he said he is a toy boxer he looks like a toy boxer he'll probably want to keep him on feet it could really help a wrestler if they could just you know that's exactly what i was thinking but you could be watching russell um wrestling but you know what i'm sure pat is well skilled in all facets of the game um i'm really looking forward to seeing you you fight um it's sort of sort of it's nice seeing someone from the regional scene fight on such a big international stage and then also i feel like this is the first time i get to see you fight i'm like you know not saying that other shows aren't professionally done but like you know you watch it on the telly and you'll be sitting back and relaxing like sometimes sometimes you're watching a stream some shows do streams brilliantly in ireland some shows don't do streams so brilliantly in ireland so i'm looking forward to watching it on airsport sitting there being like go on path do it for four i'm [ __ ] collecting i've basically been training my whole entire life for like you know usually in ireland you don't get very big actually you fight like a couple of small fights in england or whatever is your first few fights and then maybe you get signed to i don't know cage warriors or bellator or something like that but um for me to get this fight off the bat it's it's an absolute it's it's crazy big like this is one of the biggest in the world and will be found at this park um no it's actually in a in a film studio in miami so there'll be only just the crew and things like that there i think it's the one that that's behind me that's what you're oh that one actually looks pretty cool apparently i think everyone now watch right now is very excited to see i'm like you know what man like everyone's journey is different and then like this you know i mean this is just going to make it more exciting like even look at uh john living over in dubois now like it's just and then ryan obviously representing cork as well there's uh the the corker the corkonians are coming ross yeah you better believe it they definitely are um cork mma standing up uh tall and proud one last question for you is liam coming over to the voice for you unfortunately liam is not gonna be able to move because um obviously splen was making his debut and he's also got the imaps and they've got like uh five athletes there busy man yeah he's very very busy so i he can't come just for me and then leave everybody else out so this time name has to has to go with them but in the future um i'll he'll be over here with me i've actually signed a multi-fight contract with the company already so it's not just this one once i think i'm gonna be over fighting over here all the time now i think that's an exclusive there ross is it i think it is i think it is probably that means save the center for the energy show but we really appreciate it but who's going to be in your corner then this uh this weekend just eating ethan behind me here he's he'll tell him to make an appearance there he's a carrier man he's a carrier man did you have a big argument this isn't a big argument for the monster final then yesterday no no no i don't really think it was leaving you don't really give a [ __ ] like well kerry warns on me these two boys are just focused on the uh task at hand and come here tell us about behind the scenes what's bob and like just training the lockdown before we wrap things up uh very focused like primarily like as past said we've been stuck in a hotel room so we've just been kind of trying to use the time as best we can like we get uh one session in the gym a day and i've been recording it on my phone and then uploading it to youtube uh so we can watch it back kind of keep it on private and then see where we're going wrong where we're going right what we can change and kind of just preparing as best we can for the opponents he's got coming up uh so it's pretty much just like training in the gym coming back reviewing footage found some ideas back and forth off each other uh if we get bored then we'll uh turn the room into a bit more spacious so we can get some drills going as well so it's just all focused on the fight really until until the job is done you know and i'm sorry what what's your own background uh i've been training in jiu-jitsu for like the last nine ten years i'm from from spg killarney and like in the last year or so i've kind of been uh looking to jump into mma and when the restrictions in ireland kind of came down i jumped up to spg cork and i've been training there for like the last i don't know a month and a half or so and all the all the lads have been very good to me up there well that's that's great to hear uh welcome to the energy show as well yeah it's it's not too often someone's uh in the hotel room and actually get the show put uh you know this this is a
