On the Energized Show, Team Rhino head coach Andy Ryan discusses Irish MMA’s weak grassroots foundations, COVID lockdown training, and his belief that IMMAF amateur competition—not quick pro debuts after a handful of local fights—is the proper pathway to Cage Warriors, BRAVE, and the UFC. He says Neil Seery now coaches Team Rhino pros five days a week, Adam Garvey is injured and out of an Adam Garvey vs John Bourne rematch on the returning Clan Wars 39 and Clan Wars 40 doubleheader on 5 June, and he is planning a July closed-door amateur show in Belfast with Danny Corr plus a possible September or October Cage Warriors Contenders or Battle Zone card. Ryan pushes IMMAF-style national squad sessions, club membership requirements, and self-funded development because government support is minimal. The hosts also recap UFC 262, where Charles Oliveira stopped Michael Chandler in round two for the lightweight title, preview Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier, and run through other upcoming UFC and Bellator cards including Fabian Edwards vs Austin Vanderford.

[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] okay what's going on guys and welcome to a brand new episode of energized ross introduce the guests man we have the owner and head coach of team rhino mr andy ryan andy how are you doing and i should probably say tour de france's next order is hopeful yeah you ever get a blade boy big enough no i might write that just throw him in a bit of hay favor so excuse me we're still a little bit blocked up i know you sound perfect those man you sound great how's tricks with you i saw you've lost a good bit of weight there recently andy fair played yeah yeah so what me was i would have been um very active years ago soy could run and all that type of [ __ ] and then i was lifting weights and stuff and i got very i wasn't able to keep up with the openness so i said i lift more weights than them so i used to do a lot of heavy weight lifting and thinking i was great because i was lifting stupid way to the gym but it was putting me out of shape and i was pointing on the bleeding weight you know and you think that you look strong in the gym but when you look like a photographer say [ __ ] me i look skills and language now i look bad so my back on the boy come back and running every day most days probably five days a week and i'm doing circuit type of training so i'm enjoying it again how much would you say you've lost andy um oh you got them down all the time i'd say probably about 25 kilos of today geez that's that's from going fair page by the way i saw your most recent post back in the game looking looking slim and trendy yeah yeah i've seen a lot of injuries um over the years i've been doing stupid i was in the gym trying to you know leg press on 700k on stupid stuff and then tearing the calf and busting the knee and then lifted something else the next day and then i was missing the time on the mat and then i got myself in the position where i'm in the gym every day but i'm teaching but i'm actually not doing anything and before you know it you know if you put 20 kilos on and you're out of shape now the only good thing was even though i did i was carrying another weight i i still rather still trying to compete but not not to be full potential you know yeah andy can we just go back to when did you um when was team rhino founded so team royno as in team running i was probably 2004 and 2007 but before that we had a gym called uh horizon martial arts it was a made up mickey mouse named um i sort of had a bit of a club in the late 90s so i was still doing a bit of judo to compete and i was mixing about with a bit of mma and but it wasn't really mma it was what we were watching our videos and and that type of stuff and jujitsu around that started 98 99 2000 so i'm around then partly the full toy in 2005. all right and um it just goes to show how new like this this is so new ross oh it really really is it's one of the newest yeah fast driving sports i think that's ever existed i don't think any sports has ever sort of started off in the 90s becoming an actual like sports health and then you know 30 years down the line like it's one of the most mainstream sports in the world like conor mcgregor made more money than any other athlete in the world this year so like that was very impressive but the the bad part about that is now we've got to catch up now to all the stuff that we missed so we've gone from zero to being this big elite level sport in ufc and you know but we've no grassroots real foundations you know so we have to jump miles back to catch up on the stuff we left out on you know yeah you put the roof on the house before you you laid the foundation yeah exactly exactly what sort of shape is there team royno in there with uh code and some of that how have you guys coped yeah it's been hard it's been hard on on the de guys in the gym like we've we've a few pros and so many amateurs that can can train but there's no really bodies to train but they get hassled when they go train and so you know it is hard it's been hard on some of our affiliates i know what jim had done i made like it's in a sports center down there debuting show completely you know like where the gym we have the fingers we do have some of the elite lads trained and you know a couple of hours themselves but it has been hard but looks listen we're getting to the end of it now and we will be back big and strong like the rest of the mma community i think and i hope and then obviously andy was announced that this week that clan war is going to come back on the 5th of june they're going to do clan wars 39 and clan wars 40 uh on the same day i don't know why they didn't just call it the one clan wars it must be a pay-per-view thing but do you have anyone fighting on those cards yeah over a couple of ads i have uh brilliant raper i have uh lewis uh lewis on it i think that's bigger i was meant to have adam garvey but he's injured now at the moment so i have a couple of guys on it he had a big rematch there didn't he he was going to fly uh john wasn't yeah john bourne yeah yeah yeah yeah he's totally adam's going around with it when an elbow decides that leading tennis ball on a knee the same so he's he's in a specialist at the moment so he's been known not to be up he's taken down because nothing has happened so he's going to see a specialist and you know how hard it is to see a specialist this time with it yeah you know imagine so especially especially with the hack yeah andy how how hard was it to keep the the guys motivated because like obviously there was cage warriors was meant to be on it was it was the date was changed and cage exes were going to be on as well so like having to build up for a fight and then told us off and build up again like how hard is it to keep these people and still yeah it's motivated it is it is hard it is hard but what we've been doing here you know we've been doing running sessions and we've been labs i've been you know meeting groups and doing a bit of training since the very first lockdown you know i was driving down to the park with kettlebells and barbells in in the car and you know on a bike running around to park with them and stuff so we've been there there is there is a handful trying to put the kids out there that's the thing all you worry about you know we have a massive kids membership parenting jiu jitsu they're doing muddy sitting at home you know so so it's hard for them hopefully we get them back next month but we'll see i think people like are itching to get back you know so we'll see what happens but it has been hard it has been hacked about it by certain people you know what i mean but that's noise isn't it are you talking about red sir where there's always hard work now raz is one of you know that well you don't have to tell the rest to take it easy you know hang on a minute you've done two sessions today you're gonna rest tomorrow you know you've got to rest um he's one he's one that's it's hard it's hard to slow down and will we see redstone the trilogy uh series dragon i hope so yeah oh you hope so too always saying to barry when that reds are got signed i was like won't win and like he could get a total shot very easily i mean in terms of name recognition of lightweights in europe he definitely has that um the current um kate warriors lightweight champion uh aggie he he like i don't think he's that well known aggie sadari compared to uh reds are so i was like one win and why not like he's definitely off the caliber of fire to get in there yeah yeah hopefully be honest they've been giving us a few names tough tough names tough boys so hopefully being on it and yeah it would be against a decent opponent so that's the big thing i don't think red has ever got anything easier or anything handed to him and i think he's got a i wouldn't say he's got a fair whip but from a few promotions you know so i think hopefully you know he's a couple of years later he gets a good run on it yeah we had him on and he told us a story about um was it ufc fight in scotland and he had to cut down to featherweight and that that was that was over a year ago raspberry no shadow we'll have him on again in the build of the cage warriors like uh andy obviously you've seen the rise of everything you also had like the the likes of siri and restaurant ufc and now things like time has gone on and bellator coming in and taking over sort of ireland and now things have sort of changed again like um the way like the people are going on the show is like brave and then also like obviously ksuw's out there and then more people are just they're looking around going to different organizations um what sort of way would you talk to your students now because like obviously a lot of people come in and want to do want to be in the ufc because obviously why not because they look up to conor but would derby what what sort of way would you um encourage someone or if someone came to you being like i want to i want to become the best of the best but do i have to just like what sort of way do you map out a route for these uh open cuttings yeah yeah so yeah so so at one stage you know it's it's changed so at one stage before we had any sort of proper mma you know amateur scene around which escape with your pathway you start to spot in the uk scene which i think a lot of new foreigners nowadays don't do which you should do we've always fought in destroying some myths and the you know these competitions around the uk london and all over you know scotland and stuff and whales being in smaller sports halls the big big big stadium i think that's what's missed you need to be competing for that that because your land is healthy you know just traveling to cut weight the whole the whole thing you know yeah and and dan deletes the cage warriors that was your next step you made cage you were on the top one or two on cage warriors they were starting to class there's the top 102 in europe you got the shell for the usc are bigger shows right that has changed and there's no really need for like you wouldn't see it on the spot squares have six amateur fights in the gopro and they really go pro not the fighting pro rules they're still working on living at home are still training the exact same nothing has changed they're not professional athletes you know so for me the image is the way to go i wasn't really pushing it until i went to the first event i just thought you know another event and then i went and i took my judo background where it's competition i'm not going to a fight like the ufc i go into a competition that's the big big thing it's a competition you know you might have one fight you could have five points in a week if you lose the fight it's not the end of the war to go to the next competition it's a competition you meet these guys these guys in the oil mass have 20 20 40 points before you have that profile you know it's massive if you can't win an amateur total you know a annoying math level is there really any need to go pro maybe you just want to you might you want to chance and try it but to make that big structure look at the ufc now look at brave look at the big ones most of the guys that go to these shows are coming from annoying math gold medal winning position you know that's that's the way it seems to be going with a lot of shows but when i went to the oil mass and i see him hang on a minute here there's all these countries here this is like when i go to the judo events this is serious the russians are here you know we were at the last one in bahrain and i think with the kazakhstan team and the 60-yard people on the team they'd gone out a month before to employment toyota doctors physios helpers drivers with the team it was crazy you know the level the level is gone like the way the amateur boxing the dude or the rest of that it's that olympic type of sport of pushing and so for me that's that's the pathway now but we need loads of more mma amateur events to happen in orleans and we've got to forget about this record a little bit like you would never see guys in an amateur boxing saying uh before coming up we've got to do a 12 or 16 week camp remember my young nephew has just gone pro down his first pro fight i think he's 220 how much i bought some points you know so if that was mma he wouldn't do that you know bucks might have the 600 bucks before he's gone bro it wouldn't be it wouldn't be hard enough you know so i think we got to slow teens down a little bit enjoy that amateur level you know when you go to that we went to that uh competition bahrain bulgarians had top of the top of the range teams the russians the bahrainis the french you know they'd all bumped into some of the cultures there was ex-olympian judo and boxing wrestling cultures involved in the teams it's serious stuff until you go and look at that you see it it's it's it's the way to go you know so that's the pathway for me to come in here trying to get on the link to the clown wars and the caged legacies and their own battle zones and occasions that's great but to make that next level the level of the athletes at that at that mass is unbelievable unbelievable yeah i think uh one of the most famous people who's doing it is mohammad makayev um i remember seeing him and i knew i think it was a was a japanese fighter or something he got drawn against and he was like their amateur debut when like he was in there 23 you know at the time or something that knows like jesus christ like he had like absolutely land to the slaughter because the first round i think it is correct me from wrong andy is non-seated isn't it i think you're just random draw how the ha and uh yeah just saying yeah you use the accused yet the world is nothing they'll save you so they'll see the world european the oceanic champions all the stuff like that you know you're not going to be at the start you know yeah but that's the level that's the level of plush um when i go to these events i always look for the culture so we went to the first few events the swedish team were the top team they were the top team for a long time in amateur mma and i grabbed the culture and said you know what's working what's not working how do you look at this how does your team structure work who's coaching i ask them all the questions and they say but look it's three three minutes so you can't afford to uh waste time you got to have some sort of decent enough hands take your opponent to the ground control them for three minutes don't get injured that's your force for day one over maybe the finals you go a bit more wind up you can't so it's a competition you gotta have to be a competitive writer it's not that saturday night event you know so so when these guys make that pro debut they have experienced all that fighting difficulties around the world different levels they know how to play the game you know how to play okay i'm fighting the wrestler avoiding kickboxing they've done it so many times you know and is there a head coach from all stars now there's all different cultures there's a few different guys there yeah but there's a few different cultures there involved yeah well i think it's uh roy nelson the ultimate fighter 10 star getting down in the crucifix position you know finishing take no damage yeah it's a game so you go in there and you get cut your first fight and you're the best in the world you are gone you got to do medical every morning so you're up every morning away yeah you're up at six in the morning you weigh in you do a medical then you go have your breakfast then you're on the bus to compete at nine o'clock in the morning so it's not like a big fight it's a competition so you've got to be clever you've got to be fit you're going to make sure you're fighting at the right way category you're not cutting massive amount of weight i'm not making no point cutting loads of weight making the fight the first day winning the fight and then the second day you can't make weight you're going to get to squatter void you know so it's it's there's a lot of thinking involved and a lot of competitive mindset involved in the amateur game do you think it could get interesting if the americans get involved because i don't think they're involved at the moment yeah yeah yeah i think yeah yeah yeah the big team yeah yeah yeah they're the big team sure the worlds were how they are 2016. they have a big date they cleared open the utes in italy uh the european open they had a team over the only team that gave the russians a room for the money and what they had was with the american side was he had good boxing good wrestling but he had a really good jujitsu so when the russians took them down their jiu jitsu level was very high for the kids i think they could have been the biggest medal winner that weekend oh interesting i've never really heard anything about their team which is strange champion yeah a few few of the guys have gone on to be big stars in copenhagen fought in the ufc now i'll have to make sure i definitely look out for them i think i think it is sort of a the new stomping ground for amateur mixed martial arts where people really do make a name for themselves and i think um one thing that they're probably missing over in ireland is more of a a tv deal somewhere or you know to actually you know to watch it i think that i think that's probably the biggest thing they're missing over here do you think that could be happening down the line i think anything like that you know you you look at katy taylor you know unbelievable best boxer in the world looking on rte and tv about it you know so what chance we got you know what i mean it's not ga it will be forget about it yeah well times have changed and so i mean they should start putting up used to cause his money to do it but we used to record it and do it they were very good to us he used to put the shows on yeah it was great so you know unless you do it yourself you're not you're not gonna do it you know almost say andy actually the first ever amateur mma event i went through was a battle zone and my brother actually worked with sean paul power and um drunk rule uh i went to i went to watch that and it was actually on the regency hotel at the time um they actually were they're actually incredible events my sort of question from being at them is how hard are they to put on yeah very hard very hard yeah and so one of those events i had and i had done the posters and i had everything open and all the you know floyds and everything paid for had a guy's coming from england i actually had a guy coming from america we put a lot of money out and everybody in the poster didn't fight on that show he had to change the whole card why are you even boys why are you actually going crazy stuff crazy um but we we tried to do without passwords we used to do the press conference the night before trying to look at the japanese book you know we did the press conference out of the way in and make a big deal of it and went down okay but it was hard it was hard work was hard work but we got some of the best voice in orlando you know with some of the best shows ever oh absolutely oh it's called i remember uh i went to the toilet and then uh what's called i came here with the jacks and someone's like did you see the head kick knock it when i was like ah for [ __ ] sake we brought up we brought over the american team as well we did orlando versus uk we did american verse orleans you know so that was like that cause it was money but like for me i was pushing the sport it was getting my lads in the gym fight so that's what i was happy about you know well that's why we were one of the pioneers the game in ireland that's what it is well i think i think like i i do forget sometimes it's me job and i still look at her as sort of you know hobby or whatever but it's nice good job that's all i do full time but we you do need you do need to push them shows we do we need them back we need the bottle zones we need the cage legacies we need to rumble and rush cows around we need all of them back because we aren't liking with them like guys never go pro and say call now bellator ufc or hang on a minute get in a fight in the room with russian in in rush village where lower the headbangers were ordinary you know against tough boy or uk they have a great fight john dolly phillip appeared you know in the regions he there's some great prophy to their parents we had a show in the trinity sports center years ago uh cage of truth i think it was and uh we near siri on the card with conor mcgregor with cuddle panda chris fields um goody nelson ashley and daley you know that's what i think is lacking now guys guys have you know have six mma fights decided to want to go pro and can't understand why bellator's not selling them and they're not getting a hundred thousand pounds tv deal and sports car buffering you know what i mean you know we're all in the same boat we're all the same yeah well i always still don't know why the lotto doesn't rig it hawaii winner each week as well you know yeah i know andy actually just touched on neil siri there how was he getting on he's actually he's actually hearing that coaching there the pro lads at the moment yeah he's great he's very involved no that's great to hear because uh i didn't think he ever would but it'd be terrible if someone like him retired and then you know sort of fully walked away from the game but he's here he's he's in the gym all the time and foreign he's probably here five days a week there we have it that's that's that's dedication to the cause like i always sort of found a toe i don't know why i found a funny boy there like with the way he uh fought in the ufc and then went he'd be chill for work on monday i was like that's like he's just a blue guy i mean he hasn't as well same as restaurant story a lot of people actually well they have to they have yeah they have to you know you know nobody knows he's going to pay the bills for them you know what i mean no that's true but i was like you think you think they get that week off work you know but uh yeah you have silly funny holiday otherwise the mystery on your channel yes yeah so you're saying for cereal i think seriously you had to have like a decent sponsor or how to having a decent say a good wage in the usc he could have taken the year or two years off and making a rule i think he was good enough to win that floyd away title i just think he was working he what he used to do was he used to go meet those in the morning six do straighten conditioning various pads with work do a day's work meet us after work do another session go home have a cape have something deep and go back in the gym in the evening that will flow your kids it's hard you know and i could see his last two before you start to talk it over you know but i think if you had to have that little bit of a break not needing to go to work he could have he could have gone to that next little level you know he was always someone i looked and went no one ever was going to go in there and battered nails here mainly he was always in the fight from start to finish i think you're right i think he was maybe missing that five ten percent that he was given elsewhere that these boys are giving their whole two yeah but what what an athlete what a competitor and what we we had we had the last rainbow team nobody can put this guy away you know if he was given a year to try and fulfill him without the rewards of work around the financial so he he couldn't he couldn't make that next level he could have you know looking for that belt to her you know he would i think he was go he was tough enough to do it he definitely definitely was uh andy as like things begin to sort of open open our island and like obviously we have the clown wars date on 5th of june like what are you sort of looking up for to gain out of the rest of the year like obviously that's on are you is there any what else you'll come beyond that yeah well yeah well we're looking at the trinity trilogy and cage warriors we're hoping to get a body on that too and maybe if k's legs is going to show back up we're probably going to run a show ourselves uh i'm actually in the process of of sorting out the show with danny carr for the amateur amateur voice on that sort of boy math type of bass july in belfast no crowds no fans no tickets no selling tickets sports hall cage you're gonna try and get two cages as we can you can be in your fight no big deal trying to get as many goes on as we can give a little bit of experience except daddy cargo to do that so that's a goal for me to get maybe more young lads in here than the fellas i can't get on the onto that you know and take that board in the way of that you've got to sell tickets and stuff which is great as well and i'm really happy that clown wars is back i think it's a great show that they they really put on one of the best shows uh you know i'm a big fan of theirs but i think we need to have that show but it goes below that level as well so it's going to show an event where you can come and compete so that's that but for me as the uh with the ima and my pushing for more squad sessions uh more team training when you go away you look at the russians and the french and you know all the big countries they're there as national teams we need to be a national team so i i want more of that so i want fellas mixing together you know so that's my goal this year probably push the squads and push down amateur events and then support the likes of the clan wars and the case legacies i know i think i will put a show on again myself and i'll put a cage warriors uh contenders or about uh about zone on definitely maybe september october hope you know hopefully that's the that's the that's the goal for the old international footballer um elite championships in september yeah well andy whatever you do do keep us in the loop let us know yeah yeah yeah we'll definitely promote you definitely yeah definitely we love promoting this stuff if you haven't seen we had a few like um in the middle of the last class before it was rearranged we had two face-offs and two girls and two guys were taking like in face off it was great crack and everyone loved it and we were trying to just promote the more and more people that see the stuff more more people know it's on and then the more more people look forward to and spend money and look forward to it uh yeah and people so twice was i listened to your podcast this is the last time sometimes a bit of confusion with joining by thinking we're only sending away a superstar or someone that's junk having his body around doesn't work with that you club's got to be an affiliate in the club so we got people that say it was can i go for the choice yeah no problem he's a club a member no are you a member no well i can't get out of it yours boxing championships yeah lauren's a tournament in a box what about boxing with you from you take care of your episode that's part and parcel you know so you know that's the big big thing there and would you make that qualifying spot you can go you've got to pay your own way to go i know it's hard oh he paying me on when he goes coach people you know so that's i just do it because it has to be done someone has to do it in a bit of luck down the road we might get some sort of sponsorship and you know well that's that's why we wanted to talk about this roster we wanted to really put a get it get it sort of known what's the sort of situation around the irc because like like the way obviously you know yourself it's rock hard to get anyone as we said earlier like orti promoting anything or yeah nor like i mean they may they can't if they wanted they want to get the views like you know they'd be first person to post something about that someone winning something but i mean if more people know exactly what the route is to follow the ladder up there more people are invested as well i think that [Music] got to be on the squad so come to the squad sessions yeah because i say because you can't make it to carl global of belfast for a squad session how are you expecting to make the same people's move in russia or to bahrain or you know or florida whatever how are you gonna you can't be relied on to make it travel 100 miles to your own country you know you're going to turn up to 500 you know what thousand miles away somewhere so you got to do the work here and you're a big king as well you push forward as that if you if you qualify a spot on the team you come to all the squad sessions and if your coach wants to come with you no problem not better to have your own culture in the corner we'll we'll go a second to help him out but he must be part person in the team you know if you come over you're not just going to help out we're not going to help out boy go ahead and grab you and then piss off the week and have a holiday no i'm there for the there if you're a big team what you see as well is that you you might see a spanish going before him the whole spanish team would have supported i'm not going to have the pace i got to hold this you know they're at a sports event it's not a holiday that's the big king again the people that you're not going away in the holidays you're going away to compete represent your country represent your club represent your family you know so you got to go over there with your head held going and support everybody you know and everyone's there to help each other out that's the big thing as well you know so the big thing for me so either what you're saying andy is either you're all in or good luck yeah good luck yeah yeah you better believe it yeah i know i know we were just talking about orti either but that'd be great for them to do a flow in the world documentary of like the absolute grassroots of irish mma and just stick it up on the tv i mean or even put on the rt player but not like andy like like you know i mean as you said earlier you've been checking out myself some roster shows like just getting into the grassroots of irish mma because uh it's something we're massively passionate on them we just it's great to get like the head coaches of the games telling exactly what's sort of going on and the people that follow the show they they know exactly what's going on and also who to look out for as well right you wouldn't believe the amount of work that kim murphy and liam and dana white now deal with the government the sports council and different ministers well it's mental i need to tell them i don't have a good claim i'm not going to understand i'll do stuff with the master go to the meeting i'll travel i'll do anything like that but the amount of paperwork they're doing and it's crazy solicitors in auditors into new books meeting banks it's crazy stuff and if it wasn't about tim murphy cloy if the looks of them boys we will be dead in the water we'd be left behind you know it's massive the amount of work to do and i don't think people see that people think you can just all right we're gonna have an association right okay we're going to the world championships well doesn't work like that you know it's crazy well you know andy you're you're damn right it is absolutely crazy and i was only saying today because uh someone actually put a tweet out and they were saying it was actually the hse cyber attack and they were saying that they uh give 76.8 million euro to horse racing 19 million to greyhound racing and then five million for cyber security i was like jeez like if if you gave the lads a million an m8 just a million like that would be that would be your imaf stone for for the year i mean i was like it can go it can go a very very long way so like baby you know the mma community in ireland is huge maybe we need a petition for the government to give some for form of funding too they'll tell you to get around to how many sports is there you know like even olympic sports like i competed at the high level of the june i was i was an elite athlete i was on the card system this game and stuff and we got buttons we got buttons you know so they they they don't they don't want they don't even look at us unless the gaa rugby or golf you forget about it you know well maybe we have to try though maybe maybe you have to start somewhere you know yeah but maybe we've got to do it ourselves as you said we've got to try and fund some sort of tv program or some sort of you know we do if we do group to a certain level where we can you know maybe run a national championship so maybe to like say that you know some sort of horror sports station states and i'm okay we're going to run on national championships look for local sponsors to come on board to pay you know for advertisements i mean we've got fun stuff out of that you know bethany there's a conversation happening now as well so i mean like once things start to open open up again and start properly run the at the train the wheels are back on the track then once you can show all these people wanting to go and paying and everything then you can show you actually have like a pro like i know it is a proper product but then you can move on to the next level yeah so so like even as we're doing that we need all the clubs to be you know constantly they look at your books and look where you're coming from how many members you are so it's like mma is very much i'm not i'm not gonna take the membership bill but if you really wanna try to march that you take a great your membership for your life whatever you wanna call it you have your membership to the association and you pay for your grades and that's how that's how you associate it brings in money you know and that's how damn with that money that they can then okay we're going to run culture cars we're going to run you know a grave we're going to run a a seminar we're going to run these things and then we bring money in from them again then like even when we run our squad sessions by deciding we've got to do some sort of cover some sort of charge maybe 10 euros per person and the gym that's deploying the venue for the day they can get a cut of it or the money can go into a pot down for down the road or something stop going away or maybe cover help cover the coaches expenses they're flying out and paying their own way out so there are things to talk about trying to do now nothing has really happened with it with the lockdown but you know i think we've got to do it ourselves for us before we wait for someone else to do it if we're waiting we already have what to do you're waiting a while yeah yeah yeah we'll be waiting for the house to be affordable before that happens yeah that's why it was great i mean if one good thing i just locked down that like bar mental health getting [ __ ] up and down is like there's been path and progression through all this sort of conversation and just being like right there is light at the end of the tunnel but like but like obviously there was some mma action over the weekend and so on this weekend but ross is there anything else we want to say about uh the irish amazing as well no i think we cover majority of it there and it was great to get a future in so great getting toy off someone who's run their own show and around their own promotion and then it's good to see that irish mma at its grassroot level is coming back and you know you learn something every day the americans are in the automotive i'll i'll definitely be checking them out but uh yeah they have a lot of good champions about bro yeah it's a good voice yeah i think maybe when maybe their outlets which i follow are quite bad at promoting it over there as opposed to our outlets here but i'll get most of the oim stuff off argo is if you don't mean i think uh the media coverage could be maybe a bit better for uh across different channels is there any website that's particularly good for andy i'll just use the imf page itself really you know chase you know but we're only talking about that for our own quite a few ideas before the lockdown i was saying that you know maybe for the our own audit that you know one of the we have like say the instagram where we give one of the foreigners access to the instagram for the week and he does these you know his week's training and the post of his week and then the next week a different club or a day before it has the instagram and that type of stuff and and then the lads that we're going to do like a little short podcast with information about what's happening to your scene that's going to happen as well so it is happening so a little smaller things like that yeah well they're going away that's good yeah that's what they used to be doing yeah yeah ufc 262. okay andy we didn't only get you on to tell us everything about what you just spoke about but over the weekend as you may have seen charles olivia defeated michael chandler in the second round by tko uh uc 262. what did you what did you make of that win for charles olivier andy like what a story 11 years since making his debut in the ufc and then goes on to be cool he's so good he is on fire so he's not around for you know him i don't watch as many of you as his youth i think there's too many of them on some points so i'd like to watch them a day or two after and watch them as a coach sometimes you know but for me him and chandler i think chandler will be the champion eventually but i think um he was sort of looking for that belt too quickly and i thought he was caught lovely you know the shot was a lovely shot but i think i i'm glad i'm glad he wasn't glad oliver won the fight i think he deserved it you know he's been [ __ ] hasn't he really you know the last few years you know he's one of one of the one of the best guys to watch one of the best guys to watch the usc you know yeah no because russell we were saying in the build up to the event over the weekend that if because it was in texas massive like a massive like usa uh state and like if chandler had a one with a knockout jumped on top of the outgoing thought his flip as he always does held up the flag that is corny that would have been massive ratings for the winner against either poor mcgregor a dangerous guy you know and i think because conor or probably i want to fight him i don't know i think chandler would have been a better player for him but let's see what happens yeah you're totally right and he he brings up something like different arsenal to most other fighters i've seen uh obviously his uh low calf kicks uh is very impressive and obviously he's got power in his hands that left hook was absolutely beautiful he's got more submission wins than anyone in ufc history and then obviously when he you saw against tony ferguson fight like he's got excellent takedown skills as well so he really really is use a a complete all-rounded mixed martial artist you know i mean crazy to think he had he's he's the best he's developed he's developed with the game hasn't he his game has developed when you're looking forward to getting uh submission and then he's dropping boys for hands and he's a good wrestler he's good all-arounder you know he's a dangerous fight for anybody and he isn't it he's he has that belt now he's saying he's a good champion you know you can start some people might have the bet and say no but he is good he's going to be hard at the top there you know he def definitely is a and i think he'll be so mad to beat him and he did get close first round remember the first really on his head on the ground he's like dodging the punches like well i can't believe he came back in one day yeah he what's called but that's team michael chandler's is outside his game as they pull me i mean yeah he he has heavy hands and i think obviously the height differential was massive enough i don't think um he would have fought someone as long uh previously not not that i can recollect anyway um not in any recent fights and i think that was a difference you're not taking as well i might have that thing in his head of that he's got to get the knock out with the last one you know this is for the belt the money in the door here he's not taking off oliveira properly thinking i was going to want to smack him i'm going to knock him out you know i think sometimes he's he might have been 100 percent you know committed to that fight properly as a foiler he'd probably think that the belt the conor fought after it you know yeah he's been literally non-stop he hasn't been able to sit down and take it all in like yeah yeah yeah i think he was thinking of that the promo after the point before before yeah that's the bottom line it wasn't it was lightning quick it was a great crisp shot but it was certain that you'd say you know you should have been well aware of that sharp woman you know i'm sure he's watching that back in like slow-mo being like how did i let that happen because yeah i'm not gonna say it it was like a sloppy left hook but like it wasn't it wasn't from nowhere it was a bit hippie if that makes sense it was like it was from the hip hip yeah yeah and but uh look as he said you know although what a great first round as well you know um charles oliveira uh he took his back and then chandler did like a back slam on him on stage as well it was it was crazy to see and but yeah the lord weight division is very very interesting and i don't know if we'll get you on before mcgregor pour a andy but what do you think of that fight and you think the winner's up next and i hope mcgregor wins it uh boss sam i think if corey keeps the head you know doesn't get caught up in the the [ __ ] back and forth keeps the chin down it doesn't get clocked in the first two rounds i think it's going to go the same way and a lot of people are saying calf kicks he he got beat on the ground you know he didn't get beaten with the cat half kicks are part of the game conor's around a long time you know so i think that takes a little bit away from harry potter the better man of the day i think the weight suits him you know better than the 66. i think if mcgregor was to go back to training with johnny the hq not in the boy or rdm places and training with the lads in the gym all the guys in the gym i think he would be a different animal yeah it must be very hard for all that money in the bank he's in great shape brain fit i think that little bit desired in the brain you know it's like oh definitely yeah crying in dublin he was a different animal i think you know and i think it's hard to justify that but listen maybe after the loss you you'll you'll come back with that little of desire for the wind just to just you know decided to clinch that and say well that second flight was a look before you but i think going with the last fight it kind of doesn't change things around i think it's partying for you uh you see i just saw alan joban retired he was on air hawaiian show describing like um what he had his bodies changed over the few years and why it like he said that he felt like he lost that animal primal instinct in himself when he was getting when he was getting attacked that he didn't really have the problem the deployment stick to to lash back out and i think this sort of comes down to like that's what i think everyone's going to be asking of connor known in uc 264 does he still have that primal animal that can really lash out again because if it goes into a slugfest he like he he could really just realize i don't really need to be in here around four and championship rounds from 405. he already has all the money his heart desired he said once you made the money you retire so i think that's really is one of the main biggest questions does he really have it in him to go again whereas porya is a junkyard dog you know i would say you know yeah party what is that to get that belt connor's had two belts you know you know so it kind of has the money and connor has the skill and has all the attributes against the hands he's good wrestling and he's you know he's very skillful for you he didn't get where he was not being a skillful fighter but i just hope he has that little boy still in him and i hope he's still up in the desire you know yeah ross let's make it happen forbes number one do you think he still has the boy oh i actually think it was incredible that he forms a move on and i think it's something that sort of almost overlooked i think yeah that's something to be celebrated for nourishment to be number one regardless what your personal opinion is on them some people don't like them some people do like them but that's some achievement i think a large amount that came from the the whiskey sale but like what's the matter you know i mean he made the investment he's an absolute marketing juggernaut as is and he's doing some he's doing some great things for the country you know what i mean he held out phil well peter when his jim was struggling you know he donated to ppe i mean he sponsors a lot of football teams he's a big donator and crumlin children's hospital i mean so you have to give credit where credit is due on that just he's one of our own whatever that's the thing you know he's one of our own so it's great to see one of our own do well it's a real orange thing you know you do well [ __ ] him yet you know so like we're not liking you know he's done it like he's yeah i wish i wish everyone said uh what's called uh [ __ ] him about me i know he had that movie i'd be laughing yeah yeah andy what do you make of mountain dew boy he doesn't really seem to have any training partners out there own roddy um john cavanaugh flew out there and today i saw you through a picture with john mitchell there the other day from cork he just had a kid as well today by the way he did actually but um what do you make of that andy with um obviously he has the i think he's going to spend the next eight weeks away from the family i think he's gonna fly them back and he's gonna stay at their full training capital how would you proceed for see a campground with no sparring partners that were aware of bringing fire partners out he's always doing that he when he goes to it was in vegas you bring his team out so by saying the next few weeks he'll probably just be the next week or two he could just be doing pads and whatever else and they'll get a certain shape but i'd say the sparring partners are either over there or they're on the way over we don't know who he's sparring we're trying to but he always has buddies there to train with i think we're reporting the last one there's about 25 guys there was there in the whole camp yeah i know dylan moore and willow hayden were there for uh for the boxing side of things do you do you think uh the game plan will change from that boxing stance obviously that was massively talked about i know you sort of talked about the um the lead leg kick maybe uh well do you think uh phil sorcliffe will be in his corner this time out i don't know and phil is in each corner will be but still he has to listen to john's johnson's mma coach just to think all you look and say okay what one of the caves where he was more employed coaching with john cabinet training with the lads in the spg and the hq they're really came to me but i have to say that's they're the best in the course you're the best in europe running the moment you know the buddies there john got into the force world title you know what's the difference that going for the usc world totally for me there's no one you know so he so listen to the coach listen to the coach let the coach at the timetable tell you when you're training when you're not trying to heal your training what's the schedule so i think go back to go back old school a little bit and uh just do the basics you know and i think if he gets his buddies everything i say king kelly before he flew in there and a few of the guys he has i'd say him he'll he'll he'll be okay and do you think maybe your voice be john calvin should pick the spartan partners uh going forward and you know it should almost be back to mr miyagi and the the granny kid yeah i don't love that why not why not yeah why not yeah yeah like to be honest i just can't i wouldn't i wouldn't look because thing is camping spgh hq with the voice you know you know i mean he's one of the big superstars they'll have everyone knocking on the door on the roof the door in there you're training with the buddies they're in their gym without the body because they're all readers you're going to be trying more hungry guys you know no i'll get you i totally got you oh oh you actually prefer that idea and also i think you have even more control over your food and stuff back here and like the quality of food over here is brilliant so yeah but listen he's the best chef in the world yeah i think tristan's over him worried he's not worried about that the caviar actually true not true yeah but one thing you can't go back one thing you can't get over there is a good point to guinness you know so not that tony ferguson um i think the narrative here is not how great banila dariush is i think it's do you think it's time for tony ferguson to hang them up he's 37 now three fight losing streak what's your take on her well he's not the proof anybody has he you know no definitely yeah at that age and the damn wars he's had maybe it is time to hang the gloves up and because i look at cowboy i think cowboy should hang the gloves up is tony gone as bad as i don't know everyone's talking about tony going to be you know the next ufc champion you're going to kick everyone's asses and it just didn't happen you know so yeah he didn't have that dana white privilege at this point maybe he's trying to take a little bit of a break come back and just do one more voice you know yeah what would you make of what would reckon of uh he fought cowboy and loser leaves tail match oh yeah but i think cowboys yeah well they've already fought and these are already lost although it was one of those that tko doctor stop just um basma anything else my card oh big shout out to i think his name is moony's yeah yarn bar jackaree and he didn't get a performance bonus andy would you absolutely if you were him so i didn't say that for you yeah but and jacqueline is one of my favorite fighters same i think yeah i think he's unbelievable yeah a brilliant jiu jitsu player around a long long time that's people forget he's around the long run for him yeah and it's something special and imagine not getting the bonus after aaron barr and jack ray that's a crazy isn't it crazy yeah that is disgraceful uh but andy this weekend rob funds taking on cody garbrandt and they're back in the apex and cody garbrandt's had such a like crazy career from the they're going to the highest of highs and they know some three knockouts in a row he's coming off a win now what are you expecting from this one because like three knockouts in a row i know he won his last one but like once you lose your chain it's sort of gone isn't it i don't know is is is it is it the way caught that that you know i i think the way the way courtney's wrong that's when you lose that [ __ ] you know you're losing he's going around by the way what he's been growing the beer to block the chain by the way yeah yeah i think it's more to deal with that fluid in the brain and it's that way it's hard i mean you get in there you do take that shot you can't recover as good you know and sometimes before it is getting a bit older the weight cutting is a little harder and did you you see your juicy guys get dropped they're getting beaten a little bit you know easier than he did before so if he has to wake up in shape and you know it boxed our property and he's looking good i think there's no reason why we can't see him up to the top again you know it is hard to climb that ladder again you don't even have to lose the points especially that division yeah yeah yeah yeah also uh well rob fox no me mean fee either you i mean he he's been around well i don't know much about him he he trains out of boston he's a you know calvin cutter he'd be his like main sparring partner as well uh he's he's he's a long-range guy as well so it would be interesting to see i'm sure he's probably about six foot one i'd say garbage probably five foot seven so they'll be yeah quite a discrepancy in the yeah in the heights between the ball i don't know rob fans got a few big wins there recently um oh i'm still going to go for cody garbrandt's because uh we we actually saw him lose the tj dillashaw ufc 217 and uh just see someone's heartbreak like that you'd love to see them coming back to the mountain not many people can go back and win ufc toilet after losing yeah we put up a poll uh 12 people voted for rob fontaine this weekend 119 vote for cody garbrandt so yeah no we can see which way that's going also in the coleman event for people who want to check it out jan jio nan is taking carl out taking on carla esparza this would be a normal contender spot for the strawweight division ross who do you expect to win this one yeah um it'd be interesting to see carlos barza win it just because that would actually set up a rematch against rosen i'm eunis to create the inaugural strawway belt so uh i think a lot of people have written carlos barza off she's a very sort of grinding wrestling style and i'm going to say carlos spars i'm sure she's quite a big underdog going into this fight but that's what i'm going to pick andy would you rather pick there i won't give a [ __ ] yeah like i think the two of them in that division it's hard for anybody anybody is there going to be a rematch there before she defends against someone answer it looks that way i would imagine it hasn't been nailed yet said that i i think you're warned whaley zhang when she fought and previously i think she did something like three million pay-per-view boys in china i think she i think she brings in lots of money from china that you don't really hear about yeah yeah yeah i i i'd like i'd like to see that rematch again just to say it wasn't a fluke um but you know i think she is very very good um and then whoever wins that can point to one of the two girls yeah also on card is jack manson he's taking on edmond shabazzi and that was moved forward after a few weeks ago and then on friday lads bellator is on again chris sorberg taking on leslie smith and ireland's only mccourt is taking on jenny harding as well uh there's a photo that i'm looking out for on this austin van der ferd against fabian edwards um yeah yeah andy are you aware of uh arson as well no no he's a mr van zandt and paige round sounds um i think i think they're married now but uh yeah he founded the contender series one and then they didn't saw him as well but that's that's actually a massive fight in that division in for bellator as well ross isn't there yeah it's two i think it's three versus four in that division uh in the middleweight division um look we've had fabian on the show many times we've met many times he he's a really nice guy i think as long as he comes out a bit more aggressive than he did against koslow vancinas uh i think he'll be able to to win that fight and i think fun uh i was gonna call him van's hand austin vanderford's gonna look to take that to the ground and wrestling but i don't know they don't call him mr tasty shot for nothing and then oh i'm going i'm gonna i'm gonna cheer for fabian edwards yeah [ __ ] is slick with me yeah he is yes yeah awesome it was what do you put the poster up with baby on one side and then asking them paige you can't beat this for it uh andy like that sort of wraps up what's going on this weekend we want to thank you very much for coming the show is there anything you want to say to the the andy ryan army that are tuning in now that are just like um looking for some sort of like maybe even something that you did yourself like losing all the way cycling and sort of you can sort of wisdom words words away you got to be a bit nicer to people oh it wouldn't be a very much not aggressive but that's all you know we've got to win [ __ ] you was genocide the cage and you know it's not you know it's sparse we're involved in using me to come on the podcast no problem anytime help you the same with other people ring some people get a little bit oh on the ufc culture they see the [ __ ] superstars or someone wins an mma figure it will start you know you've got to be grounded we're all helping each other out you guys can't operate well maybe i can't operate without use so you got to be a little bit better so i just think for anyone that's trying to wear team ruino uh family we all know that but i have been here someone's having a hard time giving it a help out someone's [ __ ] you know suffering a bit kid marie get out for a run get out for a circle you know someone's starting a podcast off give them a shout someone's opening the gym it's a partnership but i always say people say uh who's the best jujitsu club in orlando saying well darryl connolly's east coast they're the best who's the best mma with spg they're the best i'm not gonna say find the best way to you know be a bit humble about kids when you get things and you're rewarded for stuff but you know you you appreciate them a bit better and and one thing i don't do i probably do you don't recognize that you are our own achievement sometimes we downplay them if you win someone do something put your head on point and be glad about it you know what i mean so and try and help everyone out now i'm saying that we'll probably be totally different tomorrow now as kendrick lamar would say stay humble yeah the world is a small place you know and you forget that you know what i mean and you know the mma world is even smaller around even smaller you know even smaller and like i try to park any show that's on i've given as the clown wars and cage legacy even though ruby on show you know we've got because i want guys get exposure and there's no mma shows there's no one i have no mma gym the people you know if you don't give the guys the clown wars and cage legacy when you put on your show and you're looking for their guys they'll be like no as well so yeah you have to and also you can't do a dessert to the guys who are putting in the graphs in the gym that they they need they need shows to go on you know i mean i used to say they won't go on that show and then come back and fight in your show as well yeah yeah yeah now andy roy the ellen degeneres of ireland be nice it's a give-and-take yeah and he takes a minute for coming on i told a story earlier uh i think it was off camera i was at penalty doping press day and i got i need to take a picture of me and retzer and he just and he just took a lot of selfies of himself he didn't realize laughter but he thanks familiar some character
