energize show up the irish okay what's going on guys welcome to a brand new episode of energized ross introduced to champs today we have two of ireland's fittest family members we have the adam weight and strawweight gold medalist at the national championships and the flyweight and bantamweight gold medalist at the national championships it's the other business it's jamie and the dean i feel like we're on a game show with the amount of gold over here guys how are we doing one day removed from winning the national championships uh jamie we'll start with yourself how'd it feel for your board uh yeah it felt good yeah i was delighted uh i was happy just to get a few fights in actually to be honest i didn't want to just bleed and take the medal the default middle and leave i thought you know so i was happy to get two fights in and what about yourself dean and you obviously moved up away is that the first time you fought a straw away yeah before time pointless draw away yeah and how was that for you uh yeah i felt good under felt strong didn't really know it's a difference so yeah i'm ready ready for all the strawberries now exactly i was just saying off here like jamie's jamie's going over now with team ireland to to fight in bahrain but nadine's not actually going like that's uh that's my heart broken 18 i'm sure the audience watching now was very heartbroken about that how does that make you feel especially after winning gold in the last um imap event yeah i know yeah i was devastated when i found out i am couldn't because i even would have done strawberry if i had it in strawberry i bought like flyweight that's a bit big it's 10 kilo overall i am like so yeah it's devastating not gone next time james is this the one time you get to dangle a carrot in front of your sister's face i'm gonna be coming back i just want to touch on your performances at the nationals and for first time out you fought ross kearney he was he must have been about five or six inches taller than that did you we did you have any fears going into that fight or you know were you worried about the uh size difference when you went in there uh no not really like you're always gonna nervous before fights but uh it wasn't like too it wasn't scared around but yeah i was a bit nervous just obviously stepping up away and bleeding taking on the challenge but it was fresh you guys brand they weren't there i thought about that before so it was nobody to me as you seen in there as well like i was actually bleeding faster and stronger than them lads you know because they had to wake up that so uh you know i felt good in there yeah i'm pretty sure i'm pretty sure you're the only person who won a gold medal as well who took out the number one on number two seed is that a nice little feather in the cap yeah there were number one and number two weren't you but it's only because you had more fights was it yeah i think so yeah well i think bantamweight as well i think i think because you had no for or less yeah yeah yeah they were number one number two yeah and then obviously i must be voting for the number one or two you know obviously i obviously deserve to spot you now that's why you have two medals number two yeah that's it yeah it was definitely one of the the hardest routes the to the final or to the gold medal as well and tell us this obviously for carl mcconnell as well he had 15 points as an amateur and what are your thoughts on him in the final on what does a victory over someone experiences him mean to you uh yeah i think it's cool just to get the experience uh in itself you know what i mean like because i think i only had eight flights going into that and he had as many wins as i had fights so we had he did have a lot of experience like on a it's good to get in there and move around with them that's to have all that experience because that's i'm looking for amateur it's just experience you know but uh it was all right uh i thought that was kind of better than him everywhere i obviously just made a few mistakes don't let him do his game plan in the second round but i think i dominated most of the fight to be honest nadine what would you say that jamie needs to improve on from the weekend taking the back he just hasn't gotten like me it's just that a factor that i have to ask about nadine's like before we before we uh swap parallel to the dean is that the best version you've seen jamie across those two days and do you get nervous for his fights no i get more excited for his fights i feel like i'm in there as well and oh yeah i definitely thought it was against carl what's his best performance uh he let his hands go got the take down he just nearly got the back nearly got it like me but we'll get him there one day [Laughter] that wrestling practice is definitely paying off brother and sister in the in the whole of mixed martial arts actually absolutely uh and the dean what did you make about coming up against lisa houston uh obviously she never fought before she'd done a few grappling competitions before but uh did you feel like there was any pressure on you that you know you had to go in and make a statement against someone who wasn't as experienced as yourself yeah like there was nothing for me really to get in there like everything from work again and that's why she was fighting the world champion like um oh andy like said to me a few weeks ago i wasn't going to do the nationals and he was like yeah i already owned the national classic right now but then he only told me last week or something he was like yeah there's no one happening when you're on destroy plaza he goes there for both conversations yeah yeah you're you're our dear officer you're waking up i was like right and then then i only found out it was against elise i didn't know anything about her i don't know like did an hour beforehand and but yeah she she was all right in there yeah but i felt like i was stronger i was better everywhere like and obviously there's not as many women in the game as there is men's game did you have a chat with her afterwards and give her any advice and i'll not return back lady what would you say to anyone any like any women watching now that i'd love to get in and start competing like obviously lisa just after getting it starting her journey now what would you say to some girls watching now that could one day face you watch out for the bike i'm just getting better and better all the time but i reckon more girls would get involved it's better for the support of the girls to get involved and we need more girls as you can see there's no people from my way in ireland so the more about it jamie what do you make in the dean's performance how do you think she did it was all right to be honest it could have been more dominant you know against an owner fighter but uh it was already and what a voice would you give nadine to improve her game uh she needs to get that wrestling no man like me few blast doubles she needs she needs to be on that film i can't wrestling class and get out of the pajamas with you ross youtube leading save you the embarrassment yeah absolutely absolutely uh guys what did you make of the nationals overalls event did you enjoy the enjoy the few days and do you what do you see that as a foundation to grow on yeah i thought it was deadly uh i mean it was the first like proper structure like uh like kind of how would i award a like just showcase like who to number one number two is in ireland genolic it was i thought it was deadly and there wasn't a lot of competitors that no in each way uh division i don't know what the story is dealing with people not registering and jim's not registering because you see a few times in a few little posts i'm not gonna say any names no but a few lads conference compensating oh like we don't get the spots around like that like around but like you have to fight like you have to show up and do it you know what i mean like so i think this is uh it's obviously the start it was deadly but uh we should get more people pointing at them i mean we should have full brackets and all of them and we should be able to get the two and three flights on the weekend yeah after people watching the live stream as well and seeing how professional everything was i'm sure some people would be chomping at the bid now to compete for next year yeah definitely if they think about doing an image that was literally the closest thing to another map that he could get it was like so well run uh just everything you know i mean from like the medics to the warm up to the fights to the post for you everything like it was it was close literally like it was literally an image [Music] as well shout out to everyone involved yeah obviously obviously for us it was an absolute honor to be part of the broadcast and when i was asked on air uh who i actually thought you know when the performers the weekend was i actually said yourself jamie um yeah uh i did say you were you were incredible against ross kearney and you were brilliant against carl conway as well um who who would be your performer uh i'll ask yourself first jamie of the weekend obviously by yourself and the dean who do you who are you surprised by who really stood out for you so now uh i'd say i was like calling me here was uh like he had to i don't know it wasn't there on the friday night but i seen the saturday and sunday he had two tough fights like against uh conor mccarthy and your man jury he had like there were some serious fights like he had the weather some storms and both of them fights to get the decision you know what i mean so he's actually really impressed with him he's around a long time as well so uh i'd say him and then just to see my class as well i'd say keith kell bradshaw i would have loved to see them for you in the phone yeah obviously that teammates like they're not gonna do that i know yeah i know you and dean would [Music] [Laughter] yeah uh that power guard was very good wasn't it yeah two really good performances in there i thought he was very good um and as well aaron henry what are you doing really good in his air force fight is that what's your debut what about you bosman give us your holiday the weekend yeah like keith kell is someone that i just thought i was raving about and there but then jamie yourself man like going up and winning in a way class above that that like really says something about your yourself and your drive and all the train you've been putting in so uh yeah you have to be up there as well but nadine i'll see you as well the only people that move away as far as i'm aware i think so because i know a couple people just talk to default uh the default gold i know he actually jumped up as well the bantamweight after winning gold he didn't have to you know what i mean like he got he got his spot for the europeans now and for freedom he went up the mountain took the challenge on uh didn't happen from but he's still talking you know but i think being a game i don't even want to actually jump up and win fights i'm not just winning gold you know so i think that was when you got i was impressive as well when you got home guys like what did you what your family say to you as well and were you able to fit the met all the metals in the house not really at all mine is uh he can fit he's in his room now he and his fear has a few cog webs it hasn't got updated in a while i'm bleeding the foundations on the dean's room are falling through steel beams in there what do you what did the family say when you got home as well i do all the lighting yeah but uh to be honest i don't really like i wouldn't go around like bragging after the family just me only thing i do you know i wouldn't wouldn't be something that i'd ask the mother like how did how did you get all the humility in the family jamie humility you're very humble i can't say the same for the people that aren't aware as well jamie and nadine's like family competed in ireland's fitness family as well so was davey fates onto you as well now you know yeah uh the other people going to be competing with amy at the bahrain super cup will be ava cruz kerry and vernon uh dennis perry andrew barrett jordan bradshaw cameron clements colin meyer and gustavo lopez so like the countdown now is on for march 9th jamie you're going to be taking on russia and before we get into that nadine like what can you say to jamie now to like um sorry what can you say to jamie in the build up to this now you're obviously you've worn the gold or another math like james you've also competed there what can you say or what has been said in the build-up to taking on russia just go ahead and do him like if he goes out and does his game plan then i reckon he beats your man easy lick he is he's proved that he is the best he won the europeans to force our european uh junior champion back in 2018 like he is already a champion so just go in do his own game and that's it jamie what's the focus like now for march 9th that's going to be on a wednesday as well for people tuning in yeah it's actually close it's in like three weeks yeah it's gonna actually just take it easy now until wednesday now with it for two days and then go back higher training for three weeks but uh i think they're gonna just go back up to me okay just get a few hours in because it's coming fast it is and i've seen the lad that i'm fighting he was actually he was a federally champion wasn't he won he won the uh joint master fed away and now he's moving down so russia are selecting that featherweight champion moving down to bantamweight and ireland i selected that flew away number one i'm moving up so it should be good for you i can't wait this could be like henry's hudo versus alexander volkowski we're going to get that fight see that's the thing it's coming it's coming up so soon so like you basically get to enjoy the moment and then all of a sudden you have to look at what's next it's a it's a mad game yeah i know yeah when the dean got a few weeks to celebrate hogan medley i mean i'm gonna have to get in 24 hours i'm straight back in the gold medals don't forget medals yeah look oh i actually have very high hopes for the orders team and i'm a big fan of saying like every dog has his day like yeah this the deck will be stacked against ireland in terms of hype going into the russians more medals i think than the rest of the nations combined over at the olympics and obviously the the select divisions as well doesn't actually swing in ireland's favor especially in the heavier weight classes we have less people in those weight classes but after watching the nationals like uh seeing cameron clements move up to middleweight from welterweight uh i thought he didn't give the best show himself over at imaf he was a force to be reckoned with at the nationals at the weekend he made a massive statement not final very much look for see him andrew barrett like turned out to be one of the characters of the nationals you know i mean the the the trash talk in the middle of the fight with solomon you know cameron as well cameron as well and going in and stuff you put on a good show as well but i've seen liam og actually put up something though uh about uh andrew burton he's had he called him the uh child son he was a he was a he was a fairness to him he he was the only competitor that fought three times and won a gold medal so that's right there serious yeah three days three points three wins that's well yeah yeah and especially in the last since he's really improved since his awesome maxillary which he said to us after the fight as well which is great it's great to see people if they take a loss they don't just like hide away they like go back and re uh 100 percent stuff and go again i thought that was actually a deadly fight i that was a great fight and ever since that year she's gotten better he has jamie obviously your division uh has has a few more names and bodies across the other scene and do you feel like there'll be a target on your back out fly away on bantamweight people be looking to match up against you still a bit that hype and is there anyone in the other scene who you'd love to stand across the cage from uh yeah i said they're probably dying to bleed now well they should have registered you know what i mean they should have read we could actually thought but no i don't really care about like anybody i just want to get experience i'll tell you a good photo for me uh i'd say the best amateur for you probably would be me and gary rooney i'd say even though i like gary mean girl your friends i say that probably will be one of the best voice the better vote you could make sign me up so emil would you watch that buddy legacy belt against someone paul lola against paul known yeah so maybe if i um is that after bahrain well no you go to bahrain then he fights but you can fight the next cage legacy maybe i could fight for that against him i think that's the best um amateur i think like the level we're at you know i mean yeah i i think you two are probably the next to be floyd weights who will then turn pro make a name because jr harris has left the sort of the floyd weight ranks as an amateur now so i'd say used to probably are the top two in the country at the moment ah definitely yeah i'd be mean girl yeah that's over the top yeah nadine how would you feel about that scrap who would you would you favor jamie [Laughter] you can ask dean those questions because she'd have no problem uh picking again is there anyone in the country who you'd actually like to fight for either adam white or shirley or do you feel like you're going to have to keep on fighting on all my trolls to get get rounds in um yeah i don't think there's i don't really know of anyone in ireland right now that i am i'd like to fight or my weight really um so yeah i'm just focusing on going over to the i'm asking if you're more fighting and then hopefully looking to turn proud i suppose at least with the online maps um with the dates settings down you at least know what you're preparing towards i suppose that's the only real benefit that but uh i think it's safe to say that uh you're the gunfight left for me and that's uh mike delaney the uh person who who came up with gold twice against you and the rubber match apparently there's a lot of big fights in the ufc that are matches with fighters with two losses coming in and looking to get get that back so uh you'll be you'll be the max holloway to her volkanovsky yeah definitely yeah overall from the weekend i wouldn't see that for ya pro magdalene against again when there's elbows and five minute rounds so magdalena's stalling and the dean could just go let's swing a few elbows onto the side of the head from the back on the back without a doubt i think the upper business word the story of the weekend and like four medals i mean like how many more do you need but uh guys before we wrap things up is there anything else you want to say to people tuning in now uh whether it be like friends family or anyone you want to give a shout out to james you can get get your medals out for the lads yeah get the medals out one medal two medal and um i brought that one as well just get one running everything it was just uh like water for the doctor he's operator isn't he yeah he is he is down to a gentleman like and yeah he supports us and look look what he's doing he's creating world champions here as well i know there's no shadow for the corner man actually like the week paul evans yeah shock and shock i'll give he's the first ever national champion so shout out to him aaron henry he's the fourth ever irish national champion i know we're the fourth double ones but aaron's the fourth so i don't think i love the way you say we are because you know the dean got first [Laughter] wrap up the weekend there for us before and take us out yeah i think the nationals with an unbelievable foundation we um get to really raise the profile of some of the fighters by calling them the national champions and make some far more uh of attractive commodity going forward in their amateur scene um when they turn pro and they'll always be known as an amateur champion that will go down in history at the first ever national championships what a foundation to build on i know i've said it a few times but a river years i really hope we get more gyms involved more fires involved we fill out the brackets going forward and it really really could be the absolute staple and the go-to show for irish mma every single year and i can't wait to see how it grows and it was one of the best weekends of knowledge mma that i've ever been involved with you know i thought itself as well it was it really was for people listening now try and get involved next year and like who knows what it's
