Energized Show hosts Ross and Russ interview SBG Tullamore national champions Andrew Barrett (Irish lightweight champion) and Jordan Scully (Irish junior welterweight champion) after their IMMAA title wins. Barrett describes winning lightweight by fighting quarter-final, semi-final, and final across three days—27 minutes total—including a final against Solomon, staying composed until the gold was secured, and making local newspaper headlines in Tullamore. Scully says he is the first ever Irish junior welterweight champion, recalls his earlier IMMAA silver, and praises Barrett’s three-fight run. Both discuss SBG Tullamore culture under Kieron Davern and Shane Smith: daily competitive training with Ronan Deegan, strong corner work, cardio, nutrition, and mindset support. Barrett confirms this is his first time representing Team Ireland internationally and frames his mindset for Ireland vs Russia at the Bahrain Super Cup on 9 March—treating Russian opponents as beatable rather than mythical. Scully is not on this trip but advises Barrett to fight without pressure. The episode closes with sponsor and team shout-outs, including Combat Lab.

[Music] [Applause] okay what's going on guys and welcome to a brand new episode of energized ross introduce the champs today we're after bringing in the spg tullamore tanks we have the irish lightweight champion andrew barrett and the junior welterweight champion jordan scully lads house things down and awfully amazing on top of the world okay for the people that are unaware the irish national team are going over to bahrain to compete against russia on march 9th at the at the bahrain super cup uh we were just speaking off air and andrew said that the two lads made the newspaper after winning the irish national title so andrew like how good was that when you saw you saw your name in the newspaper yeah it's an incredible feeling you always think you're only going to get recognition from your own small niche group which always feels good itself but you don't generally feel like the general public are going to pick up uh what you're doing but uh i think especially uh you know being in a small town like tullamore it's a it's a big achievement for for some of us to to be doing so well um on you know on on our scene um so now it's an incredible feeling yeah russ they're one step closer to getting the keys to the town perhaps you are the keys to the city uh jordan i just want to talk about your face with yourself first obviously you're no stranger to another metal being put around your neck you've won a junior i'm off silver medal before what was it like to be crowned as national champion and it was like you won the ufc title when you scaled the cage after the victory uh obviously fantastic feeling even to cement my name in like irish history like to be the first to do that like even when i'm long gone that's always going to be there for me i'm very grateful that i got the opportunity to be the first ever irish junior welterweight champion and it's only going to inspire people going forward in the future absolutely and andrew you're the first man to ever go the whole nine yards uh you fall quarter-final semi-final and final i got crown lightweight champion what was that like as you described the 27 minutes of hell i should be a t-shirt by the way it was an it was an incredible feeling if you notice after every single win um i did not get excited i did not jump up and down i stayed camps that relaxed because until the 27 minutes were up uh my job wasn't done um and it was it was honestly it was an honor to step in with solomon solomon's one of those people i've wanted to fight for so long not out of disrespect if anything more our praise for humability he's always been the guy to beast and uh and it was so incredible to get in there i got emotional when that fight was done because finally my 27 minutes of hell were up but uh but until until i knew i had gold i didn't want to to say anything i didn't want to show emotion all i wanted to do was get my work done cut through the competition and and and take what's mine and jordan what was it like seeing andrew get his hand raised after fighting three times in three days because he like it's just incredibly because he had the hardest route to go and like not many people could say they fought three times in the space of three days and one every round leak it's just incredible to be honest like even to beat like the top lightweight in ireland like goes to show how far he's coming oh we have to give a shout out to the third man in the three-pack at ronald deagan as well what were the car journeys uh open back to total more like each day well well jordy was deep in sleep in his bed because he's been a lazy chef but uh at work uh no uh the first day uh because i managed to secure my win without taking any shots i think it was very relaxed it was very easy going we had to get up early but i i had my body prepared for getting up early long before that point um after the second day though coming up for that last day that was tense um uh adrenaline had hit me from the day before my stomach was thorough i couldn't keep food down i wasn't eating rice my face was bludgeoned and black i was in bits and ah and i and i was i was well i suppose normal people would consider tired but uh but i i know i can do well more than than 27 minutes um so it was tense going up on that last day um but honestly there the idea of losing um uh seemed impossible to me going up even if it was that tense yeah andrew you obviously thought that three days did you feel the tension in the in the room or the the things like did you notice that the difference from the friday to the saturday the sunday just in the room itself i think everybody knew i i think i think every lightweight in that room knew after the first day that i was coming for them um i think i sent that message very perfectly clear from the very start and you know there's people when you're warming up that are watching you and they're watching you because they think they know they're going to be competing against you they know they're going to be jumping in there and maybe in the past i would have been like oh no he'll know my game plan he'll know what i he i'm going to do um when i when they were watching me i was like like take a look at this you're not going to be able to do anything about it when you're in there it's a different kind of fish [Music] i feel that you can know what i'm doing you can know every move i'm going for but uh when i get in there you won't be able to do anything to stop it so i feel the tension was not on me the tension was one on everybody else everybody was watching this grappler cut through and out wrestle everybody and then on the very last day i got to surprise everybody and show them i was a striker as well yeah it was unbelievable i was asked in the pre-show on the sunday i was actually asked on on the friday and on the sunday what what i sort of thought which way the fights would go and in the lightweight division i look no further than yourself or solomon there's a few unknown commodities in your division as well there's a few people making their product or their amateur debuts or those few fellows you know with one fight but i looked at you two guys meant they are the two best lightweights in the country and lo and behold you met in the final i actually called your fight jordan uh on the weekend as well um you didn't want me to work too hard either uh he got that one thrown fairly fairly sharpish but uh jordan you've obviously been to an imaf event before what advice would you give to andrew going over to him what i'd say is andrew just go in there do your thing no pressure and you'll be all good it's just a body just a man with two arms two legs at the end of the day like you put it i love that andrew correct me if i'm wrong this is your first time going over to represent oh do we lose andrew he's probably coming sorry just plowed there for a second andrew correct me from wrong this is your first time going over to uh to an olympic event doesn't it yes yes this was your first time representing team ireland what does that mean to you and what does it mean to you by the fact that you earned it um yeah i think i think that's the thing that stands out more for me than anything at the end of the day um when you earn a gold medal whatever gold medal it is it can be a small jiu-jitsu competition it can be an imf competition is you're the one that attaches the meaning to that um yeah i could go out and buy a gold medal uh just as easy as as anything else the same way don't be like my collection yeah i i i could if if i wanted to i could go out and bl buy a jiu jitsu black belt and say that i was a jiu jitsu black person um at the end of the day you were the one that attaches the meaning to it and attached the purpose to it and that's why when i had the hardest route to that gold medal that made me happier than you could imagine other people would have bitched and cried and complained and said that's not fair why does solomon only have to fight twice why do i have to fight three times for me i was delighted with myself i was like there will be no excuses there will be no complaints there will be no andrew got the easier route i will cut through everybody and and prove without a shadow of a doubt and i think i definitely did that without a shadow of the doubt i was the best man out of those eight men that stepped up to the table um on friday saturday and sunday i love this mentality andrew like after chatting to you there of the weekend as well there's just there's just something about you that is just uh so endearing uh jordan like obviously you train with andrew in spg total more can you tell us what it's like training with andrew and being around the likes of kieron davern as well and like what what it's like being part of spg total more it's absolutely great because our games we just bring our games around so much like day in day out and like andrew says when one of us lose we all lose okay even at that last case legacy event hundred like i felt that when you lost that but like compared to that event to what you've become now like it just goes to show like the level that we've all like brought each other along to like it's just it's just incredible and sick and that's what we're really saying and even even like having the likes of care caring in the corner like as i put it in my last interview it's kind of kind of like cheating kind of kind of like cheating basically yeah yeah i did i did say this to a face and i have no problem saying it here as well kieran darwin is definitely one of if not the best corner man in the country today his instructions are so clear and concise there's never any panic in them do you find that such a calming voice to have in your corner we'll start with his health andrew calming voice and and he does more than that he he's also the irritating voice for the other side of the other team um uh you know people don't realize everything everything that comes out karen's mouth is for a reason he's not getting emotional he's not he's not screaming like i'll be i'll be quite frank now silly things at their fighters you know when when when corners scream get up like of course he's trying to get off knock him out no like he didn't think of that prior to the fight that maybe knocking him out was a good idea go for a submission these are all ridiculous instructions when you hear karen instruct something it is to the point it explains exactly what we're doing it and quite often uses code words that only our team would understand but everything is there for a purpose everything is there for a reason i think i think that was me shouting knock him out i didn't mean to laugh my own joke that much if you are new to the show make sure to like and subscribe as we will be promoting the irish team in the build up to the 9th of march and that's why it's brilliant to have the two spg total more lads on i know obviously jordan isn't going this time but he's a wealth of experience having gone last time and picked up silver ross it's always great to have the lads on isn't it yeah especially uh big shadow as well the spg total more uh one thing i will say is like the ethos not james scene is absolutely brilliant uh every person you meet out of spg title more seems to be a lovely person and i suppose that's a credit to kieron davern on the team he has there so shout out to the lads there um andrew obviously you you did your 27 minutes of hell you're going to bahrain and you seem to have quite a different unique but brilliant mindset when it comes to the fight game what do you think you will bring to the team over there and not just your own individual performance i think the biggest thing and the thing that i think lacks from the team the most and i don't i i don't want to paint everybody with the same brush and say that everybody's bringing this energy but i think a lot of uh irish fighters have a fear and add almost like something magical about the russians that they they they live in terror of them like they're they're not human um and they are most certainly human every one of them has flaws there's nothing special about these guys uh they're very they're very same as us they work through the very same as we do and uh and and we can we can make them bleed just like they can make us bleed um i think the biggest difference between me and most people who compete with the russians and i don't just mean ireland is that i haven't lost before the fight has started i'm going in to be a dog in there maybe he maybe they do come out maybe they're incredible maybe they are trained well enough to beat me but my god they will have to rip that gold medal out of my hands um i'm not gonna give it or hand it over to them just because i'm afraid or scared of what they could do a well believer jordan what's like training with that animal in the gym every day sure car carry says just get mold every day we're dead is that right exactly exactly every every every day training uh widows is is competitive uh like you wouldn't wouldn't believe uh we get up in the morning and honestly i i can say this without a shadow of a doubt when i get up and i know that ronan and jordan are going to be in training i am terrified i am terrified of the prospect that they are going to steal rounds for me that they are going to drag and make me work in ways that uh i most certainly do not want to work if i could get the easy route out i would look for the easy route out um but uh when we show up on those days we fight to nail to win every single round when one of us takes around from another person that other person spends the entire week obsessing about how that person took that round from them that is the reason why we get better at such a high pace um i i remember that's particularly that second flight i had against frank when we were going into that third round all i kept repeating to kieran was uh ronan has done this to me before jordan has done this to me before i've been exhausted before this will be easy i've been there time and time and time again nobody in the fight game can bring me to a place that jordan and roman can't bring me to and uh and i think it showed on the day just how calm and relaxed i was does he talk that trash to you in the cage that he does in the gym does he yeah he does everything but to be fair to me as well you know just that's just the way it is that's after after your fight so i was talking to kieron and i said that knows that your team the car like the cardio is off the rails and he gave a special mention to shane smith who was there as well what's it like having shane part of the team as well because like andrew like your cardio was off the rails but uh honestly he's one of those he's one of those people that uh i think it'll go missed quite often what he does for the team um it's it's not just strength and condition it's uh nutrition it's mindset um and the guy will go more than out of his way to help every single one of us if you uh put in the work and you work hard yourself um uh he will put just that same amount of work into you and i think that's what's special about our team is uh we're not separate from each other we're not individuals working we don't have a kickboxing coach a grappling coach a strength and conditioning coach we have an mma team we have a people and a group that are pulling together there are constantly talking about what the best course of action to improve our fighters the fastest possible um uh shane is an invaluable member of the team and what's it called would definitely be one of the keys to bringing us straight to the top buzz is there anything this man can't put a promo on no no yeah for the people that watched the shows frequently we had we had andrew barad on he was not doing the face off against max lally and then from then on that like you know just can't stop getting enough of andrew barrett but uh it's it's you need characters like this in the mma scene for people to be interested for people to be wanting to tune into the shows to buy the tickets to buy the pay-per-views etc etc etc but uh people like yourself jordan you're on the rise now andrew's already putting a big name out there as well it's it's just brilliant to cover it like yeah russ we do this for free and we love it that's that's the reason yeah absolutely we love we love yours i'm amazing that and that's that's why your show is doing so brilliant honestly that's the key to anything being successful it's love and passion for something you do it's interest i'm sure you guys leave work and what do you do you probably pull on some fights you probably look up what's going on in in in the circle who who's fighting what's coming up next uh that's something that you do without being asked and that's the key to being successful at anything not just interviews i love the way andrew thinks we have to leave work to do that i wonder how andrew knows so much about me like i have to look out the window here before we wrap things up obviously andrew you're going to be going over uh jordan what's really important as well is sponsors or people that like help you and support you to make it to even training and or fights uh is there anyone you need to give a shout out a special mention to it before you wrap things up jordan special shout out to karen david shane smith ron and deegan and all the wrestling people more and andrew any honorable mentions yeah i want to uh mention combat lab uh run by shane smith uh shane and karen obviously my two head coaches um rona and jordan again pushing me to that level that you couldn't imagine in training um and uh and possible and my my family and my team and my loved ones to pull together on every fight there's only one man that's in that cage on that night but i bring an army with me uh can take out any single man that steps in there with me did you bring an army but i don't know um yeah i i think we're gonna have to rename bahrain hell for when andrew barrett arrives it's gonna be an epic occasion uh guys thanks so much for your time we really appreciate it and two of the finest athletes this country has to offer and if you have been watching this video make sure to like share
