Post-fight interview with Jordan Walters after his submission win at Cage Warriors 210. He describes a difficult first round where he chased Cory McLaren with striking while McLaren controlled the pace. Main corner Dave Matthews told him to re-evaluate, stop chasing, and draw McLaren in—a plan Walters applied using breathing and mental control, though he cannot clearly remember the early second round. He felt McLaren tire in a body-lock phase and finished with a submission he rehearses in training. Walters reflects on his signature left-hand-right-hook style, his nine-second first pro win with that combo, and McLaren’s awareness and range discipline. He thanks McLaren and wishes him well, including hopes McLaren reaches Cage Warriors. Looking ahead at age 31, he wants to stay active at featherweight or catchweight against top opposition. Celebration plans are Burger King with teammates; a call-out of Derek Lewis is clearly joking.

[music] Don't hear comment. All right. First of all, Miss Walters, congratulations. >> Thank you very much. >> Um, after that was a tough first round you had there. So, what what like what was set in your corner to kind of help you in that second round to come up with the submission picture? >> My main corner Dave Matthews, he just said, "We have to re-evaluate." You know what I mean? Stop let stop chasing it. And that's what I was doing. I was chasing it. Um trying to make him feel my striking, trying to overwhelm him. But Cory was just controlling that pace, what I was trying to give to him. And then he said, "Revaluate. Let's take a step back. Let him let him get drawn to you." You know what I mean? I did kind of feel him tire um when we went into that body lock system. And then obviously when I got to when it got to the ground and I sunk it in. I'm used to doing this in training. I used to try and let allow people to get to that position and I can take it from there. But yeah, I just again want to start by saying thank you to my opponent. Thanks for sharing the occasion. I hope like the rest of his like year turns out well. >> Absolutely. So like you're coming into the second the second round and then you get your advice from your corner there. Like did how did you uh like what did you do to actively apply that? [sighs] >> Just a little bit of like I don't know if this is the right word or uh phrase but like kind of like breathing mechanics. I just had to take a step back, just try and control the mind a little bit and as I said, try and re-evaluate myself, take those words and apply it to the cage, you know what I mean? And just try and and do that. In all fairness, I can't remember the start of the second round. I don't know if it was adrenaline blur or what, but I would love to watch it back and see what happens. But as I said, I remember when we got into this situation, I don't know if the knee affected him at all, but I just felt him tire in that moment and then obviously when it got into that, I felt that motivation to try and take control and obviously it led to the finish. Okay. Now, did you kind of a lot of fighter fighters will envision, you know, kind of their their victory? Like what what would what were you envisioning and how did this parallel that, >> man? You know what? I felt like trying to catch him with that left hand, left hand, right hook. It's what I'm known for. You know, that's what I normally try to get people on the amateur and the and at the beginning of my pro scene, I won my first one in 9 seconds with the left hand, right hook. Um, and again though, as Dave said, you're chasing it and Cory's aware. He comes from one of the best gyms and he does and he knew that going into it. He wants me. He He He knew I was going to chase for that left hand, right hook, and he was just getting out of range every time. And this is why he said, "Draw it to you, you know." So, yeah, basically that. Yeah. >> It's wonderful to have a a coach with an eye uh for that type of detail in your corner there. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Um >> what would you Oh, sorry. [laughter] I I get to look right at the screen, too. At least you have the benefit of >> um what was I saying? So, >> what was I saying? Everyone's staring at me now. [laughter] >> No problem. >> Yeah. No. Uh so, all right. You had this victory. Um you know, what are your what what are your plans going to be now? Like in the next in the immediate future, like what do you want to do? How do you want to celebrate? >> You know what celebrate is getting a Burger King? That's what I think. Yeah. Burger King. >> What's your go to at Burger King? >> I don't know. Me and my my my teammates going to decide on that. In all fairness, I probably get everything everything I can, whatever I can. You know what I mean? But hey, I said it, you know what I mean? I'm 31 years old now, you know what I mean? I've got limited time and I want to make use of this time. So, if I can be active, then I will, you know what I mean? If that means me because, you know, I just fought at 145, have to do a catch rate or something like that. I don't mind. I just want to get in there and fight these top people. And one of them is was Cory McLaren. And again, me being home, I really hope that he has a really good rest of the rest of the future. Hope he gets on Cage Warriors himself and be successful. And he and he will be. Cory Mlan will be. >> Right on. Um, who do who do you want to find next? If you if you got to pick today, if you got to tell >> Derek Lewis. Derek, [laughter] >> let's do it. My balls are hot. Let's do it. [laughter] >> Well, we'll see it. No, I wouldn't. [laughter] >> Right on. Leave it at that, man. Congratulations again. >> Um, safe travels. >> Thank you. >> Hope to see you again. >> Yeah, absolutely. I need [music] to heat. [music]
