Energized Show episode with Team Ireland amateur MMA fighters Nadine Abbott (Team Ryano) and Sarah Carney ahead of the IMMAF World Championships in Abu Dhabi, 24–29 January 2022. Both describe what representing Ireland means: Sarah calls it an honor, notes she took silver at the prior worlds in September, and says that near-miss drives her training; Nadine says she is delighted after roughly two years without fighting and wants gold/redemption after losing to an opponent who has since changed division. Nadine’s brother Jamie Abbott is also on the team, and she jokes about sibling rivalry and one-upping him. They discuss going abroad as Team Ireland while still fighting individually, name teammates they are excited to see (including Gary Rooney, Max, Jamie, Caitlin, and Megan Hamill in Sarah’s weight class), and stress that Irish amateur MMA is self-funded—hosts urge donations via Instagram/GoFundMe. Nadine credits Ireland’s Fittest Family for extra strength and conditioning; both train clinch-heavy styles. They outline 2022 goals: Nadine wants maximum competition including Europeans and her first MMA bouts in Ireland; Sarah plans to stay active through August, take a short break, then travel again late in the year while doing more grappling. Hosts frame IMMAF as elite amateur MMA, highlight Irish depth (including possible all-Ireland finals), and argue grassroots support matters for future stars.

Kind: captions Language: en [Music] energize shower up the irish okay what's going on guys and welcome to a brand new episode of energized rush introduce the guest man today we have two of ireland's finest amateur mixed martial artists who will represent team ireland in dubai we have nadine abba from team royno and sarah kearney from hoon martial arts ladies how are we doing good let's go let's go team ireland thanks man for joining us thank you thanks for having us it's a pleasure guys i'm gonna address dress your boy name because that way you won't won't go to answer the question at the same time and nadine we'll start off with yourself what did it mean to yourself to be selected for team ireland i was delighted i was represent um i haven't fought now in two years so i can't wait to get back in there and what about yourself sir what does it mean to be selected to represent your country oh it's on an honor there's nowhere feeling like like growing up as a kid that's that's what you'll want to do you know i mean you want to like represent ireland make garland proud obviously like i got to do it back in september came second so i'm looking to go back over again and just put my skills on show and obviously sarah this is a quite a unique uh thing in this sport because in our sport most of the time you go out and you represent yourself and it's an individual sport but it doesn't make it different that you're actually representing ireland and you're traveling over as a team um i think like in terms of it like i'm representing ireland but like we're going over as a team but still very much so an individual sport you know i mean like i am going to be supporting the lads and stuff but in terms of why fighting it's like laser focus and the dean how do you feel about that do you obviously you're going over and your brother's going over as well so it's a family affair as well for yourself can i make any difference does that give you any extra motivation to make sure you at least do better than he does yeah yeah that's the thing anytime we go anywhere it's all i just want to deal with everything it doesn't matter what once i get one up on jamie then yeah i'm happy so if he wins gold by decision you have to win goal boy finish is that what you're saying yeah yeah 100 yeah we have to bring up we have to bring up the abbotts on ireland for this family as well we made sure to check out the show before this show and nadine you absolutely kicked us so i'm sure there's there's extra there's extra pressure on you to beat your brother again this time around i know yeah i don't know i'm telling you so now i have to do it over here now let them all go who's the number one in the family and the dean actually a question on that how much training do you have to dedicate to doing ireland's fitness family and did that take away from your martial arts training or did it add anything to your martial arts trend no we it kind of added more to it we would have still trained and opened team rhino we would have been flat with training there but we just would have done a lot more strength conditioning as well and yeah i think added to us on definitely made it better now a better engine now for the worlds yeah and there's a representative may seem very well on the show as well so shout out to the abbott shout out to absolutely martial arts you're training with one only shawn abandon who's gone pro now one of the most known uh amateurs turner pro what's it like yourself for yourself to train with sean and being so close with with uh with with shawna oh just like it's great like i remember like we've sort of developed together i mean i remember showing his first day coming in like just laughing at you too like what is this stuff and now like just going on global stages like she's about to go pro just great like it's amazing yeah and uh yeah ladies i'm gonna i'll i'll start with yourself uh sir obviously you picked up silver last time out and how much does that drive you to you know make sure you go come home and go this time oh like it's like you guess how far and then you get pipped at the post but we're like walking it out it's just it's giving me like a little bit of extra like oomph drama like do you see like just in terms of like even like on the rower so you're getting tired you're like no it's not me i'm still going yeah there's another girl somewhere else gives you an extra two minutes on that rower so you have to do it here now i'm like no way she's not beating me i just i just want to i just want ellen ross for the people listening uh sarah and nadine are representing team ireland at the imf world championships this january the 24th all the way through to the 29th so it's going to be abroad and for people to make to to sponsor the girls or even like just give donations because like in mma in ireland it's it's self-funded so you have to make sure you check out nadine's instagram or sarah's instagram we will have them tagged all across all platforms so make sure to check them out on support team ireland let's go team around rosco you're better and then nadine what about yourself do you feel like a bit of redemption here to come and claim the gold yeah 100 and yeah it's obviously horrible losing as you lose and then now the girl who beat me is any division this year so yeah i'm ready i can't wait and it is that is that is that where you see it in a as like almost like a bar that like you have to improve to be better than she was last time and if you can beat her well then you can beat anyone yeah yeah like i don't think she was that much better than me anyway like it was just a few little mistakes i met and yeah i'm ready to go now and can't and then how much better would you say you are this time from last time how badly would this be nadine beat the last nadine oh she built her around [Laughter] this was laughing was not ireland family was she no no she you got extra clout now coming over to your boy a lot of people not that anyone outside of ireland would have watched it but you know that doesn't matter they will know they will know what's what's what are you expecting from like the team ireland itself going over to uh it's in abu dhabi isn't it like what what what's the atmosphere are you expecting going over as part of the team obviously used to are going to be besties now but i mean like what are you expecting the overall teamwork atmosphere to be like sarah ask yourself first i don't know like i'm excited to be honest because i have like max coming up from the jail nearest like gary rooney netherland and jamie do you know me and i'm i'm just excited to see how the team does overall like look at the scales in general of all those people like individually and then together like last time i think we took we took a good haul from prague so it's it's going to be good this time i'm looking forward to seeing the results yeah i can't wait i think everyone's gonna do really well it's a really strong team that we have on uh yeah i can't wait for it can't wait to get the rounds in with everyone over there as well i don't feel like an ego i keep on saying the boy because i thought dubois keep saying dude it's wexford everyone watching this already knows it's in the description where it's at everything so like if you say yeah for the people that are just tuning for the first time to our show what do you like for what should people know about like team ireland and the imf's like what how important is it for the growth of our chamber well i think it's the most elite amateur competition available to martial artists like the greatest thing about it is you're going over there and you're fighting representing your country and knowing the 10 year vote in other countries but we've all seen it where uh twice we've seen two irish competitors meet in the final and it's just too good we're just too good it does happen so uh i think uh sarah there's a few other irish competitors in your way class uh i don't think there's any others in yours in the dean is there um there's nordnard yeah yeah caitlin's and yours and then i have megan hamill's in mine yeah so like who knows we could have all our irish funnels but that just goes to show the caliber talent that ireland is sending over these uh competitions and they really really are some of the best and hottest talents to watch and i think it's also very easy to watch you can just watch it on imaf tv so it's the same way as you watch i don't know brave or any of those so it really is you know you have to watch it you mean and oils support their own very very well like you see it at your your cage legacies clown wars etc that like we really do support our own i think it's very important to support these guys because like i always say you see your you know your paddy hoolans your conor mcgregor's your you know ian garry's paul hughes and paul reben all these guys like aren't possible without supporting the grassroots and helping them build up and that's why you have to support these girls in front of us here because they could be ireland's next superstar and you know they've already gone to the imass for one silver and now they have their own little redemption to go get that gold and we're back them all the way that was brilliant well look at the end of the day i just say it as it is i try and say it say it how i see it and look i i fully believe in team ireland and i fully believe that we are sending some of the best martial artists across europe across the world and like why can't you get gold that's the way i look at it like user you use the ones who are putting in the hard graph in the gym use the one you're putting in all the effort so now it's time to go under the bright lights and shine that's it someone has to get called why not us yeah exactly and i think last time if you actually look uh i know ukraine like scored a lot in the last medals but they also send over a ridiculous amount of people i think like you know body for body i think ireland probably came home with the most amount of medals in terms of the amount of people we sent in the amount of metals we came out we came home with so we're we're definitely now becoming a team to look at in the imaps and being like geez if you're up against someone from team ireland you're not going to have an easy ride and they're not and no better two colleen's than the two in front of us to make sure no one gets an easy ride mohamed will go on another thing is like look at the countries that's funded as well do you not mean some of them countries have like fully funded teams like getting paid to train and then going through the automation i mean ireland we're just here for the the great the yellow green snowman yeah well yeah that's what like like i feel like this is people it's weird the way the mma is perceived in ireland because like we have so many people doing so well and it's almost it's shown by the government but like i mean myself from russia like putting as much effort as him to the irish grassroots for people to see for therefore it's you have to take notice and when people come up with goals from iomats i mean like that's the most notable thing in the world yeah it is it's it's like the mma equivalent to the olympics it's like the highest amateur level you can get you know what i mean what do you think we're dressed up with the green all the nervousness we can see russ deuter obviously oh thanks very much uh dana i'll start with yourself obviously um you know women in sports uh in ireland mums absolutely boom and is there anyone any woman in sports in ireland that you really look up to oh i think katie this one everyone looks up to anyway she's bossing out there doing it for all the women in ireland yeah well she's won the best ever do it regardless of gender we love katie and what about yourself sarah who do you look up to like obviously i think katie's just there like jerome and it's she's there but i think as well as katie ash daily like shout out to ash what a legend show me in the first first irish mma champion there was children and she's a woman and like absolute legend yeah it is something that me and barry are very cognizant of as well that like when we were doing the show we were like we have to try and give you know fair coverage to women and to men and it's very important to us and when the oi master all that i was like right when you show what two of the girls on we know shove it to the lads on and i was like maybe we'll get a show with a coach on or something as well but like that has to be like the minimum like you know i was like we could do another show with another two girls another two lads who knows it depends on what way schedules no lineup but i think it is very very important uh at the end they i love the way that you know things are becoming a lot more fair and that's my favorite thing about mma it's probably the closest 50 50 sport for coverage for men and women that's it and like the work you put in like you see the results i mean there's no phil on anyone in mma because if you're not working you see it in there you see it in the cage you know what i mean if you were to describe your fighting style or compared to someone else who would you compare it to m oh that's a good question i i'd say kind of said i like to ask to be honest like like i like working the clinch i like me grappling and i'm striking as well but i feel like it the clinches me me bread and boy man i lost that and what about yourself the dean um i don't know just myself really can't really describe myself someone else though um yeah kind of like there i like get the clinch get into the ground oh no yeah you you actually fight a bit like you're one off ireland's family i can't remember her name it's one of the walls yeah i think she's still there yeah i wouldn't be surprised to be honest just before we wrap things up guys as well i i just want to know like what what do you have plan for 2022 like like when you like at the end of the year there we're just coming into a brand new year shout out to everyone happy 2022 but like when you sat down at the end of the year and beginning this year what do you really envision what you really want to achieve in 2022 and nadine will go with yourself first uh i just want to get as many points as possible this year compete as much as possible and i want to get back competing and do to try to do europeans into two and yeah and then there's many many fights i've never fought in ireland an mma so i'm going to try to get on the show over here annie at the weights want it in ireland apparently you have to apparently the whole martial arts ways you text every girl under the sword [Music] what are you looking to achieve in 2022 2022 i know when we come on from the image i think there's a few a few shows on the march so stay i'm planning to stay as active as i can until august and then take maybe a week or two off and then fly out again for the end of the year i'd like to i only got one grappling competition in last year i'd like to do a lot more grappling and work on the grappling a bit more but just as much as i can and put in as much work as i can so i see the results at the end of next year you know what i'd love to see was and th this is strictly from perspective i would love to see an irish domestic show and the main card is all female voice i think it'd be perfect to do yeah and like if you actually look the imaf competitors i mean there's a few in each weight class you could actually you know put them up against each other and you could do an all female main card and that could be something historic for others female martial arts 100 and there's loads as well like you have i don't have to that down today i'm not setting up but like sarah sheridan for a few weeks ago wishing i had knowledge like there's loads and there's lots of like just getting ready to make their debuts as well have them all have them all on your list apparently i'm really good boss i don't know definitely not man i'll miss well like that's why for everyone tuning now thanks for the opportunity to the show you have to make sure to check out nadine on instagram at nadine abbott123 and sarah kearney acarn dog one of the best nicknames the candidates to help donate and get these girls and team around over to abu dhabi to um to compete on january 24th to the 29th at the imf world championships ross anything else to say before wrapping support yeah just want to say best look to boat ladies heading over to abu dhabi not to the boy uh who knows i might go there afterwards for now holly boss but uh like you said bosmo and if you want to help them get there there is gofundmes on both their instagram pages and sure look if you don't know any of them maybe split your donation in half and send them both uh a few bob it would really really help them it'll go a long way and like they say in tesco every little helps and so i just want to say happy new year to everyone from the energy show live a little let's go what's going on aldi
