Energized Show episode with returning guest Chris Cadwell, described as the show’s first-ever guest, centered on his decade-long career as a personal trainer and his dramatic weight transformation from roughly 25.5 stone (about 160 kg) down to the low 90s kg and later back up to about 105 kg in muscular shape. Cadwell explains he got into fitness after gaining weight playing sport, a turning point on his 21st birthday trip to America when he realized he needed XXXL shirts, and later retrained in health and fitness after a business degree. He describes his coaching philosophy: lifestyle change over quick fixes, habit-building, adapting communication to different personalities, and testing programs on himself first. Co-host Ross and others praise his dedication, accountability methods such as body-fat testing, and the intensity of training with him. The main news hook is a charity challenge for Pieta House: Cadwell and others plan 400,000 steps in one day (about 80 km, with Cadwell aiming for 84.4 km), after an earlier 50,000-step push-up challenge that raised funds split between Pieta House and the Irish Cancer Society. He discusses mental health, Pieta House’s Darkness into Light fundraiser being postponed during COVID-19, and why the charity’s phone lines matter during isolation.

okay what's going on guys and welcome to a brand new episode of energized today we have a very special guest on the show we have energized first ever guest the one the only Christopher God well welcome back on the show bro yes thanks for having me on again boy be a boy be returned yeah that's it episode 1 2 episode what's this 234 I think yeah catching up on Joe Rogan's right but yeah as you mention as Ross mention they're like Chris was actually a very first guest on the show all them years ago on today of him and colleagues have changed man times have changed yeah poor dad I'm just going to put it out there we actually record this yesterday and it didn't come very proper yeah we're like oh my god Chris you need come back on the show boy first of all problems Chris you're back thanks minimum yeah no worries yeah yeah yeah Chris like your look very well known around the compared area for everything you do health and fitness and like for people that don't know you can you tell you tell us how you got into health and fitness um working as personal trainer about 10 years now Bush I supposed to journey started with my own kind of fitness transformation I always played sport and stuff like that and then probably was probably my main one it was always kind of told you need to be bigger etc to make it into seniors wasn't really tell what he or went either so I just eat it whatever I wanted like just try and get as big as possible and then kinda I think the top tail around 25 and a half stone 500 close to 160 kilos and I kind of knew it come too far and needed to change so a few of my mates were training like with a personal trainer so I went have got the help of a personal trainer what was their moment when you were like here I need to change it so I think out my 21st I think I got it flights to America and I went off and I was over there and I was like buying clothes and stuff I made went to pick out a shirt and it was like tree Excel or something and I was like hang on like this is for excel if it was in Europe so I kind of it just dawned on me then he'll be good God sort of thing like because I would have a big frame so it obviously carried it well and like I didn't think I was that big border obviously it was so straight down and there I kind of said like right I'm gonna buy everything too small so that I have to get back into it when I go home and then got it the help of a personal trainer it kind of things moved on from there and that's how it goes serves and but then I'm sorry I finished college damn and then M went back to college to do health and fitness after my business degree because I didn't want to work in that industry gotten the internship and then from there I've been working ten years now yeah when you when you got into it like I mean like before people don't know that stories unbelievable and obviously being very good made for us and yourself seeing the whole transformation is unbelievable like I know you put a picture sometimes and you become from where you said like 3xl to like having a six-pack like it's not like it's not like a thing that draws you every day I've got like to help people to like obviously not everyone's gonna be like heavy bull like you you've achieved on the whole scale so you know you can help people it's that's all the droids you yeah like that's that's the reason I do it like the reason I picked that job is like I love my job so they don't love and someone gets in contact me and goes oh I've tried everything it's not working ya know you've been through it so I think maybe you'll have a better perspective and I end up getting the boy a few like for Farrell's and science of that like that are quite big and they're like I want to go to someone who's been true at all like so kinda you name it I've been there I've been in every situation and they got true it obviously yeah Russ obviously House Christmas border and what have you made August transformation over the last 10 years he in the first half it was actually quite crazy because obviously he started going to the gym quite a bit even losing weight and I sort of expected it to be like anyone who goes to gym for a bit they go lose a bit away even go Jesus look ray and then stop going to the gym but like you sort of kept on going and go on and go on I was like I was like hello that you do really really I mean it was like he was sort of down to like a hundred twenty Katie I was like oh well like that's the way or like an international prop you know mean like I mean flash level and then like drop further I think hims like he was like no to get abs I'm like I probably laughed up method time when he was like we gotta get abs cuz like I'd see him out of the heaviest I was like no way and then like he eventually got out and then like nor easy get down to sort of you know low nineties then he really almost ready knowing he loves or once age then he went back with 105 kilos and they would absolutely jacked so since I was sitting there going trees across like this was like he's an inspiration really honest yeah it's a sort of a transformation that you would see on you know like yelling generous show or like Oprah or Davina McCall would bring it with the end year know this is your law you feel mean like feel like it's a TV show really I mean it's it's that crazy the transformation yes they should almost catch you on that an operation not operation transformation what's the one or T I think that is always it yeah yeah because like I mean like everyone knows like I remember your being a skill and ops you're seeing what you're told nail but like even your Moines says change was like it was like the main thing that you've torn over the last few years like 10 years but that's made you be so driven cause like some people are just like a spoiler to guess they go back to the gym in January and they won't have a six-pack for Marv's in August or something but like what was this kept you going yeah so like the way the way coach it is like I don't like if someone comes in to me and they're like I want to lose X amount weight or etc like the first thing I do in the consultation to say like right we don't really want to work on off ways like that's one kind of a attributed or like try and end the more towards fat loss but sometimes you don't have that sometimes these people for performance and stuff like that as well but I always just say look this is a lifestyle change it's not gonna it it's taking you longer than six weeks to get to where you are now so it's gonna take longer than six weeks to get you to where you want to be but if you embrace that it's gonna be a lifestyle change and we work on getting good habits in they don't become routine routine then just becomes low style and second nature so you don't need to worry about it so like that's why I say that everyone is you're really regiment with your toys like Madonna died I just know how to eat around what I want to do or what phase I'm in sort of thing making I'm just always reading and studying on it and then I'm always trying things on myself before I'd ever tried them with someone else so because obviously there's not a one size fits all yeah you're obviously very committed to everything you do as well even way all your posts on social media not the way you make food you put a recipes everything like it's a it's really cool to see and you even take them very well let's see the first handstand the chair big rappel that's great New Ross respectable so Paulo you care for people listen now like you'd like you have a lot of people there and like we reinvested into your life isn't like you've changed how many people's lawyers like I mean I'm in Russian we're so dedicated and I will be taking the foot off the gas for that it's like I've never seen someone so committed I know you you didn't like trio psych brothers you treated us like as clients bullet-like and he gave the best service as well but for people that are tuning now like you train with a play skee Nene like professional shogi player and you also like train like women doing they're like you have a you could do it you can train anyone yeah well that's what I think you have to adapt like so basically like you need to be like a chameleon nearly like so and whoever comes in the door you have to find a connection with that person and see what drives them like find out why they're here but like like what's driving them and then from there how am I gonna find a way of getting my point across that they'll understand so you have to be able to relate to everybody so I think like the longer you're in it the more you can kind of reach personality types and then do a little bit more studying into it as well because even like say with yourselves like but you bar you might have to give you a pat on the back that'll drive you where Ross I need to show to him to say get off your ass like there's different personality types so even though user training together you had slightly different goals like Ross wanted to drop a little bit you wanted to put muscle on we can design the program I wanted to get bigger than Ross and respond to get smaller than me yeah we want to meet me for a cafe for you what's called is sort of interesting all fastest fastest is life not to train that tooth because you say someone do the mean they interpret the way you meant it yeah and that must be some nuts for hard to get across there's all I've been told that once or twice before and it sort of always took me just because you say something someone doesn't mean they understand it exactly the way you mean it yeah it well that's exactly like you so it's heaven you have the knowledge in the information but if you can't get it across to that person if it's just gonna morning your MLT order you made it almost all the map nagas whereas say with anything if you'll be nutrition recovery anything if you say like if you stretch more and loose maybe your hips you'll actually be better performance at your tennis or your golf or whatever like that or it'll take the pressure off your back won't you put it back to their sport or whatever they're into it and tell them they'll actually be better at it then the bullying and from there it will spiral into all the other stuff I suppose a bit like a teach a man to fish and believe for life give a man a fish and leave for a day sort of thing is not yeah well that's it and like I always say I always say it starts small like so what everyone goes like what you said everyone else Bronco okay I've got legislation I'm gonna ruin every day for ten days but then you hate running and you give it all whereas if you just did like a little bit like even walk and then do a row and ER day or a little home workout whatever it is little by little a little becomes a lot so it all adds up and then that's more sustainable what you need to do is find kind of a lifestyle and a routine that's sustainable long term and that way when you're consistent you're going to see the results yeah also like I mean anytime people ask for sort of on their own variance crime stories over for a coach like myself and of knows Ross but also max is the same person saying your name which is familiar yeah we're like there's something a lot of coaches look up to you as well like that's what our dev board am what you think makes really good coach and what makes you really stand out well I think you just have to be passionate about what you do so like you'll see me post all the time like it you have to walk the walk like so it's not like you don't you don't want someone telling you to do one thing and they do the opposite like so everyone kind of knows like I'm into it like that postal my food like it's the same stuff all the time of like it's just routine for me now like I'm everyone else like that like Sammy - Sam - training I do the training if I post up a workout it's gonna be a video me sweat and doing it like so I'll do it first so I know how hard it is so I'll always do that like we don't like like you don't know how what might seem easy for me could be really hard for someone else so even like that push-up challenge that went on there at the weekend like there I think the worst tan of us that maybe did it in under 90 minutes but like it was funny July - who's running it was like a cohort of robots that are just used to doing push-ups all day and there's a lot of like say your average Joe doing this as well that just beat the buzzer and got it done by like 10 11 o'clock and like well don't all those like that they're there lads that don't go to gym don't train but they put themselves through that I said they're still so from today well there it was a very cause they did that for PA house as well and lawyers Cancer Society and I just saw this morning that I hit 50,000 yeah so they're getting twenty five thousand each where we get into like an old Christmas touched on one the main reasons always on the shoulders if the story wasn't good enough were like from an outsider what I was he taught over there one thing makes great surgical coaches well cause he can't you know Chris he doesn't know Pope himself look to be honest a bit like what he said there Chris like he made sure he goes every single program before he actually gives someone he's so good like tweaking a program if you have like a slight injury here or like I mean your ass or whatever he'll slowly change something for you he's always he's always on handle I mean he's always great for a piece of voice he's only ever a text way and then just like the intensity of training with them is all much like I trained with other personal trainers I've never been good shape when I was trained or Chris and people actually always use the ask me what's called that like like you get training for free offer but I'm like we actually used to pay to go train with Chris because we were like we want the fools yang service you know I mean there was no there was no mess no barrier lien and it was just like the level of dedication that he shows is almost passed on to you when you're training with him well I think that's I think that's the main thing really it's the mindset that you get when you get there push along there yeah we're uh still Toronto where do you think you you were the best show trainer Chris rather than anyone else I think he got me to really buy into the lifestyle and I felt like he was so invested in my development and I felt like other trainers were saying what we're like thanks for the money go do 10 squats over there if that makes sense I mean as opposed to like each weeks like you make yourself accountable for like to be body fat tests I'm like cuz those body fat tests like right Hoss go down this field whatever or sometimes you know I mean he would go to him like your body fat mine a lot come down we lifted 20 kilos more this week than you did two weeks ago so that's a big improvement they're only the improvements I'd like right well maybe you're Steve's knock rates may mean to sleep a bit more and like he that was an issue with me because like I was a bit of no I doubt that's the thing like it loads of people like use weights or like as their only marker but like you could like even like he said there if you progressively overload like you're lifting to key those extra week it adds up over the weeks or you do a little fitness test I did a two minutes faster or I did my 5k minute faster I have to get new belts because like there's no holes left some it was too big big the jeans fit that like from my last birthday I have more than a year all my summer clothes like just pick some that like will drive you as a marker and then use that as your goal to get to there yeah Chris okay well before we get into Pierre house and that you read to your whole new tales of stamps for charity and first of all why are you doing this okay I do sound like obviously they there's a lot of focus on mental health these days like like obviously you went for you went from as we said earlier like a very heavy prop to amount six pack that doesn't like to gloat like did you go to any mental problems before you well like I think like everyone has at some point in her life has touched on it whether it was personally or with friends or family they they've all kind of gone through it and the reason I chose pair the house obviously is darkness into light it was meant to be next weekend it's been postponed it might not run now it depending on how the phases of this car would go or their that's a massive fundraiser for them they they are in about five million a year from darkness into light so with that counseled like the motor needed forms and even though it was postponed like the service they provide can't be postponed at the moment people are like a little bit lonelier everyone's self always laden you're stuck at home with your thoughts so those phone lines are even more important now more than ever with the amount of isolation that's gonna then so yeah you're doing the hotels itself this Saturday so yeah so like are you looking forward to like a like this is going to be a huge huge actually I'm here like starters actually for was involved now and so Paul O'Connor he's the golf pro at the oil and he got onto me literally the minute I post he's like on doing it as well the girls who trains in the edge of a manga and then another girl from Toy Fair Isabella and she's doing it as well so we're actually doing 400,000 steps for PA the house on Saturday tonight and ya know I'm actually looking forward to it and I was saying to Ross yesterday I worked it out that it's gonna be about 80 kilometers on the day so he knows how competitive I am I trying to said to him already I'm gonna do eighty four point four ok so that's a double marathon on the day that's incredible obviously this story that some people seen on promoted personal/social da we did 50,000 steps last week and I have blisters on my feet to prove oh boy it was one of those things where we actually did that to one-up Chris at the time he done fifty thousand five hundred staff so then I didn't like fifty thousand seven hundred steps like two days later he did it on Sunday I think I did lunch she was like but on the Tuesday Chris was like I'm gonna do or 400 pails and steps I was like yeah she reeled my self-esteem it was a it was such a moment but then I'm like I think I will miss tortilla then I was actually so proud yet cuz I was always on 26 tails and steps at that station I was like it's the most I've ever done on a day and then I was like half do this again like I'm only halfway there I thought it was like Chris gonna have to do this and other three times on top of that I'm like it's a lot I end up doing 40k and fifty thousand steps and it took a lot so like Fairplay kids come take your cool few hours to get this over line yeah we're gonna we're gonna get over king 4 a.m. and okay it started then but at least but the regulations being eased a little bit we have a 5 kilometer radius so I don't have to do 110 laps the same dance so your offer like 4:00 a.m. yeah yeah we we kind of we kind of put a plan in place yesterday say a basic plan now the weather was meant to be laughing rain it seems to have changed to that it's gonna be a little bit Sonia or at least clear or just keep the fingers crossed for that anyway before there with a basic plan in place we're not sure which way will start we've kind of planned a low tree roots so that we don't get bored and then we're going to see what distance they are and like if one of them matches up to it what we have to do to finish off will do that or you might just see me runnin up and down there to see from to get a finish for the end of the day yeah well like I'll see it's it's gonna be a great thing to finish it like cause you're doing a fir get such great cause I'm gonna make sure it goes that we're gonna put a donation link just there it's gonna be paying them talk hump as well so you want to put money towards that be great I already have roughhousing yeah very rusty always hold no it was we're looking for we do yeah I'm AJ donate on my behalf but just for truth before we sort of finish I just want to talk just a little bit more about Plato Hales cause it's actually such an amazing charity I think every one one way you know they're so first with their mental health whether you get a bit is already over you know your appearance or whether you know I mean you suffer with really bad depression I mean that phone line is always there available to people and PA the host arts and Deloitte started off with 400 people a man arranged to walk after his son took his own life Thailand there was mass on two with hundreds of thousand people across five different countries it was an over started charity and I just think it's really really important to just know those facts and just you know yeah fifty locations now unbelievable unlike as Batman says who hardly said and no nowhere father should have to bury bury so enough taking his own life I think that's really a sort of torch and when you see someone like that it was a fact and talk about it so it really is a worthwhile cause again people of our age are you know the highest percentage of people who do take their own life so it is very important yeah yeah well Chris I know you're gonna hit wonder tales and the great thing is that Ross is Dan gonna have to hit a hundred and one thousand as I said earlier make sure it's a check histor Tony beep intercom and Christian actually a legend on know people that you do is for a lot of people but many people are told about you the cool the bad a view of people baby be good is we're gonna we're gonna keep loads updates during the week as well so obviously this week I'm gonna have to taper off the train and which will probably be one biggest challenges like you know me I just like to stay busy trying to be as efficient as possible so actually sitting around trying to do Norton is the biggest challenge I'm also gonna be document and I get some mobility flexibility plans for us helm girls from my nutrition a few little things like that so if you're interested in anything like that I'll be document and all that on my story all week I know we expect low the social of the day from yourself I'll be updating all day have the power banks charge ready to go hopefully that energized their crew have a few podcasts everyone make sure to follow Chris to check out this stuff this weekend it's gonna be on real home to take on 2,000 steps and then make sure you like this video if you want Rossi or during warm tails and put a like share subscribe and as always stay energized
