Here are three of the biggest red flags you must avoid if you're a beginner in MMA.
Number one, looking to only train MMA. This is how you guarantee you'll be half decent in every
martial art. It's crucial to spend time learning each discipline, whether it's wrestling, striking,
grappling, all learning separately so you can fast track your progression. Number two, looking
to compete in MMA first. This is a huge red flag. Depression and emotions that come with a fight
can be a lot and if it's your very first time competing then it can be way too much for you
and you can find it overwhelming. I think Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitions are the easiest way to
feel the pressure while minimising a lot of the risk and damage. Number three,
sparring way too much at the beginning. You should have a 70-30 split, 70%
drilling with some positional work and 30% live sparring way too many beginners jump
straight into sparring at the very start, looking to spare every single session.
This generally leads to reinforcing bad habits. My name is Roland,
I'm an upcoming pro fighter from a small town in Ireland. If you want to support my journey,
be sure to drop me a follow.
