Post-fight interview with Josh Hogsett after his bout at GladiatEire Fighting Championships 3 on Combat Confidential. Hogsett confirms the surname spelling (not “Hoget”) and describes a camp of about ten weeks where wrestling was the main game plan—take down and submit—while he still felt he could stand with an opponent who had kickboxing and defended takedowns better than expected. He credits daily work with elite strikers at his gym, extra running (about three times a week after skipping runs for his previous fight), and coaches Danny (striking), Ru and Gary (jiu-jitsu), and Imran (wrestling). He nearly finished with an Americana, wants to start finishing fights more often, and plans to stay amateur with at least one more bout in 2025, ideally two, leaving matchmaking to his coaches. He also talks about combat sports helping him manage anger and humbling him after time away from wrestling, and advises newcomers to start training and bring a friend into the gym if they can.

[Music] Everyone uh here Gladiator Fight Championship. Uh we have our second fight today. Uh Mr. Joshua Hoget before everyone say yeah it's Hoget. Is that a misprint or is that how it's spelled? H that's misprint. Okay good. Um first of all congratulations. U you dominated that fight. You were very good. So you were very good on your feet with his his hands left, right, left, right. You you were very good at holding them off the jab and then you give it to him and so fantastic and then several several several good takeout like big slam. So congratulations on that. Thanks. Yeah, I think it was a bit coffee when you pick it up and do a big sl but [Music] no you should you did fantastic. Um, now what was your plan come coming into this? Like did you plan on being able to do that just to kind of pick him up and Yeah, more or less was a strong wrestling background. So that was main focus and you could hang with them in the striking cuz in the gym I go to it's all elite level strikers. I train with him every day. So I knew I could be able to stand with him, but the main plan was to take him down and submit him. Yeah. Came close at the end there. Uh I think you nearly had like Americana or something. Yeah, that was going for but he did well from outside very well defend defending the takedowns. Didn't really expect that but it was a fun fight anyway. Yeah know uh it was fantastic. Um uh how how much time did you have coming into this? Um I had a good bit of notice like 10 weeks I think I was training. Okay, that's not bad. Yeah, loads of time there. Loads of time and I'm always training every day so just by stepping it up really. Did you do anything in particular specifically specifically for this? Um mainly the run cuz um I didn't run for my last fight at all. Your cardio looked great. I'll be honest after the first one after the first round I was thinking to myself, okay, this is like cuz you went pretty hard the first round and I was thinking to myself that uh okay, we're going to see if he if he gassed himself. You did not. You you did you you kept that pace it looked like for the entire fight. Yeah, that was the idea. Try cuz I do 10 rounds and they could kind of make it like a sprint as long as I got my cardio up enough. So I was running run about three times a week but okay the other fighters in gym run every day so I need to step it up for my next one definitely. But yeah, right on. That's the main thing it changed. Other than that, it's just the whole camp going 10 times harder and train every day. The dieting makes it like feel like I say the mindset, you know, you just feel like you're working harder if you all the combined, you know? Absolutely. Um what what role do your coaches kind of play in kind of your leadup here? Everything from Danny with the striker and and Ru and Gary with Mujitsu and Immran with the wrestle. It's all like detrimental. They all help with so much. And um there's no easy days, no easy rounds. It's just work, work, work. I'm at the bottom here. So work my way up in my gym. Don't really care about the rest to be honest. Uh what are you what are you taking away from this fight? This one I need to finish more people. I need to start finishing people and showing I can do it. Yeah. Cuz right now I'm just I win do but I if uh more technical Okay. I can finish fight. Very good. Uh, now are you usually this comfortable on your feet doing striking? No. No. You're a ground guy in jiu-jitsu or I did wrestling for years, but um this gym like fast tracks your confidence in the striking cuz you can hang out with them. You can't hang out with anyone. That's what I feel like anyway. And you'll see later on in the day. Oh, everyone everyone's phenomenal from this gym honestly. Did you take did you take any damage at all? Like I think you you got clipped a couple times. Clipped a couple times. Yeah. I don't feel it now, but it's probably the adrenaline. I definitely feel it. He's a good fighter. He's he had kick boxing. That's why the focus was the wrestling. But yeah, um not too bad. He had one time I think though head. Yeah, my fault. I think I ran into honest. But but other than that, I feel ground so far. Fight of the night. Yeah. Seen the first one, but yeah, I say night too far. Um no, it it was a fantastic fight. Um do you have any uh plan any more plans for the year for fighting? Yes, I want to fight. I want to fight as much as possible. Um, definitely at least one more this year. Hopefully two. And I have to do amateur. I'm not I think is there anyone um in particular that you think you'd like to fight? You know, I leave up to my coaches to be honest. I'm not I'm still very new to the scene. I don't know who's who's up and coming who's me at my level. He's a good challenge for me. I'm not sure. So, I leave it up to my coaches decide that, but I I'll say no. Right on. Right on. Um Okay. Um, so I run a podcast called Combat Confidential. Uh, and one of the things I like to focus on is um, kind of like how's Combat Sports helped you personally? So, can you kind of can you give just just one example of like what combat sports has done for you to help make you a better person? Yeah. Well, I think a lot with um, like anger and it's easy to get really angry in situations and especially like I was I used to get very angry as a kid like through tantrums and stuff. So wrestling really helped that has helped even more cuz you took loads of time off wrestling and then getting back into fighting you just realized it's very humbling. It's very humbling sport. Absolutely. So um yeah it keeps your health in check you know makes a lot calmer people. Awesome. Um and if you could give like kind of one piece of advice to someone who you know maybe is uh struggling with anger or struggling with um maybe maybe they want to go to the gym or just like just nervous or whatever like what what piece of advice would you give them? Uh, honestly, it's just start. And if you know someone who's he's like that, try and get them to start. Try your best to get them into it. It's hard to just go into a new gym, especially when they're all fighting and stuff and everyone's good. It's hard to like just go in there by yourself and start training. So, it's helpful if you know someone. It's really helps a long way. I had someone who brought me into and then me after I saw a few for years. So, that's really like that's the main thing for me. Right. And I'll just add to that real quick. If you don't know anyone, some of the friendliest people I've met are in the gym. Yeah. You know, so everyone's so nice. I haven't that one horrible person. Exactly. Yeah. Even my phone here come before me in the medical introduce myself. Say on a good show and that's all respect after like it's all whole way through. He's addict. So yeah. Right on. Right on. All right. Look man, I appreciate your your time and I look forward to uh uh seeing you fly again. All right. I'll check your podcast. Okay. Thank you very much. confidential. Let's go.
