okay what's going on guys and welcome to a brand new episode of energized today we have a very special guest on the show we have Bellator the inventor of the hundred thirty five pound Bellator Grand Prix Brian point man more right how are you getting on what's happening lads I'm doing well everything's great great how do you get mum yeah all good Jonny and Charlie what life you know what I mean it's just what I've been a bit of a corner of God what is that bag down in your place to get a few more like snails up I stopped running out with my bags [Laughter] just the side things off and tell us how he got into em mate yeah be honest which area was a always played sports played team sports since there was four even did quite well I was there the county player with four hurting the footballer but I'm losing interest in it and I was didn't quite as it I was in college studying I was about twenty one or two and I seen who's I see I think I was seen a UFC but it was at GSP and Matt Serra and I was also Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz and it was it was a hobby like show but when I seen and then I was like what is this and then when I had more I looked into it I was like okay I can't just be an observer I need to get into this even though I had no ideas my dad's my life really so I was in the middle of bastian for my final exams and do my thesis and I just I joined the mood to a club you know in evenings I fell in love with it I just dropped what 15 years of of GA in soccer and team sports I just dropped it all to just pursue this mm you know was it was in the middle of a recession so basically my time was spent working in a bar well during the day it was a it was maybe training practicing by myself on a bag reading martial arts you know tutorials and what and looking things up on YouTube just practicing him and I just fell madly in love and I still am still am today for a lot people don't know like you you were a part of the first wave voice I'm amazed when like like it that when SVG blew up and you were like part of the team what age were you when you actually joined the SPG and what was it like being part of that like movement I'm kind of I think I think I started MMA at 21 and I had amateur like so basically from my first day of training I was 21 to 22 and when any year at my first pro fight and I fought three times and in that year or a few months and then joined SPG was I was I was training like three times a week in place in Wexford the standard wasn't very good I mean it was just a few guys that were just trying to figure it all out between us and I had an amateur fight and and we're - the shoulder was the club that we're putting on we're guys called Kilkenny top row so it's probably open to the Kenney and one of the guys that were there were training in SPG so I got that Lincoln went SPG I was like right this is my yeah this is my last gym will never go to this somebody clicked for John and I've been there ever since you know me but was a quick quick progression from the time that I first seen MMA to my first pro fight it was it was very quick in a flash you know I put I put everything into it like I do now so I think that's why a book with the first wave I suppose I was in that but I took two years I was so it was right as I was born as Connor got into the UFC no the guys did I was there for for the first boy Connor had against that Marquez print image I actually helped spare him with that was kind of a good story of cutting a sec about that oh damn - so soon after I had to take time from from the sport I started a gym you know what I mean it was we started a family so it's something that I think was a really big turning point in my life as well and career because I came back much much better you don't mean from that two years offer I could I could recognize a lot of the mistakes of making as a present that day that came back far far better both of welfare rolls are Thor you were gonna tell us anyway I think it's it's a kind of a cool story but what kind of a guy Connor is he I was fighting a guy Steven call back the day I was that lightweight and mean corner met in the gym for sparing and we don't fight for use but he walked in and he told me the news that he got signed by the UFC and it was such enormous news because no one none of us had got into a big show I managed for my arms around you a big hug than that if because like he was in the UFC that was the big thing boom I thought it was closer to his heed on those five rooms Orthodox from his white would be better prepared for that fight you know what I mean all all you know all help should be put towards him or guidance or whatever but he was able to help me even though he had just been signed so I just think that's a very cool you know a story about what kind of a guy Connor is well you just caused a massive at GSP found like he actually got me into as well and here you say his name was at U of C 69 or was a U of C 83 and Sarah did he win or did he lose you want to hear some of this is funny okay because I'm like well five foot seven five eight like I'm short right so yeah when I seen Tito and Chuck Liddell I was like I have to do this but these weights are [ __ ] huge like I don't know what Saudis they were just massive weight classes earning an extra I seen Matt Serra not goes like this chiseled [ __ ] athlete of GSP I don't even though I knew nothing about the sport I was like if he can do that because I could see put then up obviously I looked like I 500 GS piece fights like multiple times I just all of the way he thinks more than the way he actually frightens this thing is yeah was it when he lost against Matt Serra but I loved all as all his fights like that the huge huge loss in spa has an offense in my opinion because they do you think oh you know he's my teammate boiling Connor he has had to argue two-time world's first time ever to do it to its executive else I do love understand why he did I love GSP I always have looked up to him the way way thinks is mine said you know I was often put put down but I was kind of I was trying to kind of maybe I was probably people tried to come and move my mindset the way I think about training the way I think of a sport they were saying I was way too obsessed with certain aspects of it but one that I didn't do it I'm gonna try to be a bit more flowy with things I became a worse fighter his the way he approaches he's almost OCD I'm very much kind of like that too and since I went back to that way I've been much much better as a fighter I think he's like the call from a professional Tour champion absolutely ticks all those boxes I mean he does everything you know I mean whether it's you know working with high-level training partners he put system limited recovery modules you know even the gymnastic work he does I just think each was it take as many boxes he can at least an amazing martial artist you know which is which is just what it's all about LeBron makes the martial arts fans you know ya think you've actually ever come back you know I'd like the same come back just a lot of people are required I wouldn't make the secret because I think you know i'm you know i look it likes to stay Sugar Ray Robinson like it's so heartbreaking when you see that guy came back or you know you know just good professionals that had to go back to know keeps taxman happy etc I don't think each espl has that but I think that he could come back and be like justice successful is just an amazing did it last performance was one was a backup performances against basic you know I mean like he liked Pacey not male and then choke me bald bombed out here I mean me look wait laughs it was crazy because there's been no Bisbing has got in their way such good guys and like he's won and lost for he's always looked good maybe not against Gastelum because I think you know it took damage in the previous videos but GSP a shot down you know and you don't do that it's like this thing I know all that she found Z GSP to be able to be a lasagna if you came back 185 the thing will be able to take him down hold him down there and Alice I mean 20 Camaro I think so too I ain't gotta Sonia has such phenomenal story Guinea so I know he so flow in there with everything is very much well thought out like if you look at his he brings the fighter down a she's excellent against them I can't take it away his name you fall another so-called fighter quite explosive the chi remember terrible TC yes like roughly say leg kick and he just he was in total control but I think GSP is is that way as a mixed martial artist I think GSP had Raymond Daniels in his camp very very often so he'd be useless or a high-level kickboxer and his count it was council yeah Raymond is a cool like we fought on this same show three times now and the last everyone died fought on the same shows him we bought one so the last time we were speaking contracts that we're not fighting the same broad obviously like the last ball the last few years in or Astoria maze exploded you even have your own gym now as well and like did you did you eat could you even envision what was I better calm but all this explode and really now really Boram was there even a field in the indica in SPG being like something's gonna happen here like it's happened in stage is sort of go he's getting into the UFC you know you have like obviously if corner you're mastering if you've got the glaze that Kareem and that was a massive surge and a massive wave and now you know we've got so many guy used with Bellator would even the early days in Bellator we didn't know what was going on like I took the a gym key fight when basically I was gonna fight a Portuguese guy I don't know who likes it what Cameron Bure his name and oh yeah damn I can pretty much pull over to fight my wife was extremely sick you know it was it was just it was tough going and I pulled out of this for you pretty much and then I found out then that there was no main event and so instead of pulling out then I changed our phone call to saying that Boyd AJ for that and the reason being is obviously I wanted to get sewing new Bellator but I thought that would be aggravating for Irish MMA - I told them if we could impress if we put on the show that they would come back again and they and I was one of the reasons for like I'm not surprised because of the talent that is in our country not just an SPG but like we have fantastic fighters and I think we put it up to the best to the world and think you know the next few years again we would be producing world champion I'm looking forward to hopefully looking farther being one of those were champions we were in the first two rounds well you know I mean it was it was a very impressed form I'm especially see you are aging McKee's come on and don't know you I mean like a lot of people are tipping him to be the favorite win that war featherweight Grand Prix and obviously yes we've we've had heroin and he thinks differently but what's your take on the fairway landscape because you've been a featherweight from the majority of your career the drop down to one pretty fun underground play there but how do you see the featherweight landscape I think that's the idea in a format having the Grand Prix go down is phenomenal and he has that mindset very similar to the corners that unbreakable my self-confidence you don't mean and um I think you know like I'll put backing him people I don't like him me from a personal standpoint but you gotta go he is done he's got a fantastic style he's very very as a pretty high for you thank you AJ's very explosive athlete is more of an athlete I find that than a fighter when I fought him I didn't fight him at my attention because there was just you know like I said I was saved myself but one of the main reasons you look at of all his last few fights people in ever made it about the fights out cause correctly he therefore was the same way do more drugs and it's not forbidden for position as massive you know how were like the shot selection is huge people are just fighting or dropship was the same I think it just having his way with that with that range as well that's why I'd be so so confident of hammering him if we did go again that being said I don't know like that Caldwell for is a good boy AJ it's I think he will get Pascal well on soy's and his that lettuce ISM and I think I think you know you've got another good matchup with virtual and and Chesney Sanchez will probably win that one and I think Pedro and I think the winner of Hippodrome could pull was on the wind a little thing percent honest where do you think you your best what's your best of the best division like would be 135 145 for myself yeah I'd say 135 and I always felt good at 145 would like I would be if I would be strong I'll be strong never came never fighting felt like God they were they were stronger than me but I'm when I fought lahat and when I broke my first my two hands the biggest problem was getting that guy off of me his weight was just [ __ ] crazy like I'm obviously I have two broken hands had to get out anyway but I remember like he missed waste by 2.5 times I was on wait like the day before easily and you know you generally you get weighed the day of the fight as well like I was quite 71 1 or 2 kilos and the Chi remember I think I remember when he was where he was exponentially larger than a fart funnel made the last time I weighed in at 61 point what for you person laid out a camera she's my wedding was the limit but I was like back up to 70 point something next day I mean back to the same way I don't like what no much way but I do like having a level playing field felt like I had it didn't necessarily have to put my advantage to do that we have to become world champion after these things and tell us where this this Bellator bantamweight Grand Prix that you've been campaigning for it would also probably crown the Bellator bantamweight champion because her duties drop the belt and who would you put in that bunt way a brown pre sort of if you take yourself out of it here are the top four Bellator bantamweight that are are in motion would look maps well just go battle by step and I think the Bellator Grand Prix makes perfect sense to crown the champion force now we have the depth if you talk even two years ago I remember in Budapest watching Dantas and he go fight for a belt it was shite it was terrible they didn't they were like ego didn't even make waist you know I mean and I thought it was just shame that we have the debt now you have 16 guys there whatever them put like if you want top for you you've got myself 100% you've got one a sort of you know it sort of begs up the fights because like you choose who you fight yourself well let's be on ministry it was deadly like a lot of people loved it but let's be honest about hunter went division is one of the reasons I was so looking to go down is it because it's let's be honest is boring as [ __ ] many as many of them are the division has got deeper to be feral in the last couple years and you know it seems to be exciting in so this former would even propel that excitement for fans you know we have the lightweight division is good you've got little Chandler and there's no federal division has that crime free I think now is think for the bantamweight division as well you've got a crown which have you want to make it more exciting it has the debit right now they've made it it gets funds you know attached to the names in the bantamweight division to because the talent is there finally right just some coping your points for the last world as well and it actually we actually like I think roster degree it look like Dennis what were actually giving you a cool Porsche and then obviously went in the know on the halfway emails right you then in break them to your hands like if you if you look at that narrow you just sort like Oh or what's token backing out no like no because I know what I'm made of you know and I can look back at the the footage that I've had and I've gone I look back at them with fond memories perform you know if I look back in the times where you know I was in some [ __ ] dingy Oklahoma hospital with like evening outside with two hands and casts I look back that and I be proud of myself because I know most men were stopped in there you know what I mean that people say yeah but people who say I don't feel things in fighting so I felt every part of that you know I mean it was it was a extremely sore all that kind of stuff foot it was challenging mentally get through that yeah what went through your mind what would you mind when you're like oh [ __ ] my kids you know I mean my kids are my boys you know that's just put to be perfectly minimum my dad told me when I was a young man enough to get ever give up you know and I've always carried that and I was you could have brought me I don't know maybe that stupid like a lot of people and a lot of people would disagree with that I know we're not like and perhaps if I had stopped you know after I broke the second hand I would have would have had more fight between now and then it's just that the fact that I broke my thumb I kept hitting with that left hand to right I couldn't make a fist with and I just shattered shattered shattered so ends up with seven breaks in it you know means you know maybe if I'd stopped whenever but I would never ever live to myself I probably would never went back fighting a fight with things like doctor let them dig deep yo man a lot of people do you see they have the wheel broken only in four like I just feel like you're not one of those who I mean like yeah bit of a never doli attitude and obviously you said that since if your father and Rico's in your entire fighting career some hair right slugging it it's funny it's funny how the internet works like you follow each other on Instagram you get to know we and then like you almost feel like not there's a connection there you're just like you want them to do well you know you guys are bordering on me and you want me to parish my no-hitter and on top of that like every time I go in there you know I'm doing the fur for everyone you know I mean everyone that's on there as well I think so you know that's boy they gone back to that McGee fight was so important but I took that you know I mean that that I wanted just me my teammates but for a lot of my fans and we all deserve this yeah when you're you trying to get a lot looming hard in May what is yeah I won't say who I was signing to fight it's it's not up to me but I was signed and we were preparing for California in May and amazing to me obviously that's been postponed I don't know whether that fight gets postponed to be honest I don't know when we're even gonna come out of this for when I am hoping for is October against Ricky pant they ass anyway you wanna mean whether I have a fight in the meantime whether that is my next voyage we put Costa built that I think it makes a perfect coming event will not be really sexy if they launched the ballot or pathway Grand Prix I didn't over two nights I need to do you can actually make James versus calendar in told them you were spawned a ass and that's like well at the start of the bracket if you don't name and then you know you do like maybe an American part the night before cuz like people are gonna be chomping at the bit to get Feliz code so you could almost have the bracket pre-dawn I don't have my [ __ ] toe or a start date I think makes a lot of sense I think I think a lot of promotions might be pressurized into doing to carriage back-to-back on the same weekend as it is turning hub the rosters are active because we're missing news with this for its Jana means so it would make that would make a great idea you know I mean even if you you could do the London and Dublin card you know I mean they've done that with a with other cards you know what I mean you know same weekend's I think it'd be pretty cool deadly would be great I want to see these big fights and these big events in Dublin there because we have we've like we saw the arena's there that so now it's time for title fights the company was time for an increase to take part take place we were so on right and we were sort of looking up like when spoke on your evil would not be so perfect I'm like the people bros versus Pedro Peter Queenie you were struck Ricky Bobby is and then James Callender all on the golden car doesn't make it like one be biggest open cards of all time being saying maybe they want us to spread that out under that's probably too much excitement for one minute we wait so long stage only and then oh I leave horrify yeah Harvey on same peridot yes that was a fire I was looking forward to that one that wasn't a good step up hiring is a good fighter you know really looking for but ingly and has looked really good in the last couple fights I think I was looking forward to that but in order there's just so many goodies that are on the scene right now that are that are ready the parents you know mean I think of all the event all the venues all the defense hinder ish and then the trio henan don't deserve that the biggest cases might be might be a ticket or whatever buddy is skilled yeah Brian from correct your next boy there's actually a 20th professional fight it's all right yeah yeah yeah which it would have are you fighting if they didn't have fans in the arena because like who knows when like Massa metafiles are gonna go to an arena yes like I I got into this forward as a fan and that's one of the reasons why I try to make my stylistic say you know like I was only think about my last fight what in general should I say I try to make it exciting then again like I over that house the Cato mortgage I want to get paid I want to get back in there I want to you know I have goals to become world champion 105 pounds come where f0 in front of an imperial arena I want to do it you know I mean I'm a fighter I want to fight you know I'll do I'll do it inside right now if we can make no certainly to my book you know so ideally yes in front of a packed arena if asked in closed doors so be it would you rather almost
