Post-fight cage interview with Fergus McLaughlin after EFC 11 under Evolution Fighting Championship. He credits a strong camp with his teammates and coach Colin Meyer, who worked pads with him almost daily for two weeks. Preparation included an abroad camp in Warsaw, Poznan, and Berlin, training at gyms there and doing night runs. He entered the cage ready but the bout was delayed briefly because no doctor was present; teammates kept him focused until he could fight. Camp work emphasized sprawls, getting back up, and timing against what he expected from his opponent’s approach; he listened to his corner throughout. He landed a slam that surprised him given his usual laid-back temperament. He plans to sharpen cardio and basics before his next bout and hopes to fight on a couple more shows before the end of summer for experience. Going the full nine minutes boosted his confidence compared with shorter previous bouts. Weight management was straightforward—roughly on target and less than a kilo to shed shortly before weigh-in, cleared in about twenty minutes with help from friends. Afterward he planned to go home to a celebratory cake his mother baked for the weight cut.

[Applause] Go back. Anyway, uh all right, everyone. EFC 11. Fergus Mc Mlin McGlaughlin. All right, here. Get right in there. Get right in there. McLaclin. McLaclin. Fergus McLaclin. All right. First of all, congratulations. Thank you very much. Yeah. Um, how's it feel? Amazing. Yeah. But I put in a good fight camp there with all the boys. Uh especially Colin Meyer, my coach, who helped pants for me almost every day for two weeks straight and uh they're just unbelievable in the fight prep like they were doing anything they could to help me. So big shout out to them boys. Right on. Was it was there anything like you know different that you did to kind of prepare for this or was it kind of just the same normal everyday stuff? We did a special training camp abroad. We uh went to Warsaw, Pausnan, and uh Musla City, Berlin. Okay. And uh yeah, we trained with a couple good gyms over there. We went on runs at night time. Just anything that would improve the fight camp, you know, right? That that definitely sounds like it worked. Ah, yeah, it was. Yeah. No, but big shout out to the gym. They did as much as they could for me. It all paid off tonight. So, thank you to them. Excellent. So like uh you know talk to talk to us about like you know what's it like stand sitting in the cage and you know they they shut the door and you know it's just you your opponent and the ref and they're like what what do you how do you keep yourself composed? Well um I went into the cage and I was fairly pumped up and ready for the fight but then unfortunately it was postponed for a couple minutes there cuz there was no doctor. So the lads were just talking to me and keeping me mentally prepared and kept me sharp and then when the doctor came and was just go and I did the job and I wouldn't. So yeah, it was good. Yeah. Congrats. Like was there anything specific that you trained um for tonight to you? Like was there anything that you did? Well, there was certain aspects that we knew were going to be in the fight like I had an idea of what your man ST was going to be. So we just were working on timing the sprawls, getting back up, getting back to from you by the way. Thank you very much. Yeah, it was just the sprawls and getting back to the gauge and building myself back up and listening to my corner. Just all the small things that build up to the big things. So, right on. It was good. Yeah. Excellent. Um, not talk uh talk to us about like uh like what uh is there something you learned tonight or is there something that surprised you tonight in in there? Oh, I didn't realize I could be as much of a dog. Like I'd usually be quite a laid-back person, but that slam really brought out a side of me I didn't think I had. Yeah, I I'd honestly I'd be fairly levelheaded and everything, but I I felt the buzz to do a slam, so I was just like, you know what, you only get this opportunity once, so I may as well go for it. Right on. Good job. Um, you know, what are what are you taking away from this like into your next fight? Well, I'll definitely try to work on my cardio a bit more and uh just improve on the basics again. Just cardio is a tough one. It really is. It's like you either have it or you don't. And then sometimes Yeah. Well, you can have it, but someone has it more. Yeah. It's just I feel I know I can get better at my cardio, so I'll just try and improve on that for the next one. So, okay. Yeah. What uh what are your plans for the rest of the rest of the year then? Well, I hope to get on a couple more shows before the end of summer anyway and just get some more ring time and yeah, little bit more experience and then just progress from there and see what happens. So, just stay active everything. Yeah. So, uh speaking of the ring time, um you know, a lot of fighters kind of want that first round submission or first round knockout, whatever. Like, how do how do you feel that this went the whole way? I actually think I'll take more away from it and I enjoyed it a bit more and it builds up my confidence that I know I can hang in there for the full 9 minutes. Like a lot of my other fights, they never really were 9 minutes. Yeah. So, it's nice to finally get the stretch and just see how I can hold out towards the end. Absolutely. So, yeah, just all the fun, I suppose. Right on. Uh do you have any special plans now that uh uh h a couple? Yeah. Go home. Mother's baked us a cake for uh the weight cut. Oh, there we go. Oh, it's a vanilla. Vanilla and pink buttercream icing with malt teasers and sprinkles. So, that sounds great. Big shout out to the mother for making that. Sounds fantastic. Um, did you have to um weight wise? Like uh you didn't have to cut anything, did you? Or I was fairly dead on with the weight cut from uh just the word go and then I just had to go for cut like less than a kilo like before. So, I just had a couple of boys over help me with that. Was gone within 20 minutes and then I was chilling. So, yeah, handy enough. That's I was talking to a guy earlier today and he was uh he had to sit in a sauna for like like 30 minutes at a time several times for over a few hours and he's had like like a ton of errors, trash bag, all that stuff. You feel bad for them boys like if you take the diet serious enough you don't have to. Right on. Look, I don't want to take too much of your time. I don't want to keep you from that cake. Okay. Ah, no. I need to get back to that quick. All right. Look, I appreciate your time. Congratulations and I hope to see you again soon. All right. Yeah. I'll see you again soon. Thank you very much. Thank you. [Applause]
