Energized Show previews Ciaran Mulholland ahead of Cage Warriors 170: Sheehan vs. Konrad, where he opens the card in a flyweight rematch with Conor Wilson. Mulholland says dropping back to flyweight has been one of his easiest weight cuts and that he feels stronger with more volume in training at Fight Academy Ireland. He welcomes Graham Boylan’s new Cage Warriors flyweight tournament and Jake Hadley’s move to the Dana White Contender Series, believing volatility in the division suits an outside contender. He explains he left bantamweight because he was fighting for the wrong reasons—family life and a full-time job—and that returning to flyweight was a big career decision. Much of the conversation covers his history with Next Gen Liverpool: three of his last four opponents come from that gym, including Carl Wilson in a close first bout Mulholland believes he won, and frequent matchmaking against their prospects. He recounts fighting Liam Giddens on short notice after cutting about 10 kilos, and a frustrating Mohammed Mokaev bout booked on two days’ notice after Mokaev had avoided a flyweight meeting on Cage Gladiators Ireland. He calls this rematch with Wilson a perfect camp after a COVID-scrapped March booking, plans to pressure from the first bell and not leave it to the judges, and expects a finish before 15 minutes.

ireland cage warriors flyweight it's the dark horse kieran mulholland here on how are you doing i'm good that was a really really good atmosphere thank you for that heck of a wee bit mcm uh you know what uh joe mccolligan was on here yesterday and he was saying the same thing oh what's called the i don't know what your man's name is i think he's from wales the cage warrior is uh injured but i'm coming for everything you work for [Laughter] the second cage where his lands in ireland ross is just going wherever i think that is his name actually it just gave me but uh he he actually seems like a really nice guy as well sorry but kieron welcome to the show how are you doing man it's great to have you on and also you're going at the flyweight now how does it feel to be like aim for about a 125 pound to be honest it's so good uh i've really missed floyd i think there's maybe it's a few changes in life and stuff from the sort of they say they were bound with that sort of we'll have new new berry and stuff and everything was a lot of things going on so sort of thought and they stopped being grumpy and free week and everything else and that was gonna make the change development but i think this has probably been one of the easiest way it cuts in a long time for me i think i've been really just done with that i sort of looked up and moved off from the um everything's really really going smooth everything's on point so i'm really looking forward back to flavoured i think i feel so much stronger um i've got a lot of volume and here on it's sort of uh timing now we have you on today after graeme boyle announced that there's now a new flyweight tournament for that to create the new cage warriors fly away champion and obviously jake hadley is going to go off and point dana white contender series and how exciting does that make that for you because yeah i always look at a tournament like this and think that someone has to come around the outside and become a number one contender oh yeah well as soon as i've seen that i sort of thought that's brilliant for me because a lot of feathers will be ruffled the whole division will be on shorter move so the volatility is the the first two sort of two fates and then the winner that's going to fit hit or fade in there for the minute hit the table but it'll be i just had someone on the outside it's going sword to be like looking in sort of the next number one together i think i've got a better year this year shortly now can't tell obviously too much was in the pit lane yeah because not announced but um case words have a lot of shoes throughout the year so i think good googling on saturday pushing goods there to get sort of maybe two more three more this year on the under the belt and uh i think if i win when all those there's really no reason why i can't wait for somebody i'm going to have and here on uh obviously you're i think was 10 and 10 as an amateur i know you're 012 uh as a pro was it the first two losses that pro that made you feel maybe you'll be better off down on flyweight see it's a mix everything like i didn't feel not strong about it i just thought again i knew it was faded upon me for the wrong reasons i wasn't afraid to bump me because it was heavy i wasn't thinking about it because um and i said i'd struggle meeting fired i was saying i was fighting about me because i thought it was easier for family life and it was easier to work a full-time job was easy for the wrong reasons um and i sort of sit down with myself one day and have a health sort of thing like if i really want to make this career plan and you go fly with me need to use everything all the advantages that give himself and fly it was a big decision for me and the other thing i want to say is what's the story with you and next gen liverpool and when you step into the cage on saturday three of your last four opponents will be from next gen liverpool do you have it in for them or what's the story there liverpool yeah number one sort of prospects and it's best in ireland i sort of held six titles where i supposed last night trade nathan and the administrator clean up in the uk sort of racing uh but there are never happened to the amateur and me and him being here for a pro and i mean it's really really funny we've imagined back and forth in this campaign to me and even got like a pretty good relationship i actually i thought carl wilson um i think i was the last on my street and he was maybe my last one um i was afraid i i felt fallen in won the fight and it's about like it was marginalization either way but personally i won the fight and they went away um street foreign spring i fought on the dead and she was um i was in the cage warriors the grand prix so i don't know what it is with me and that next year but uh i've seen the fade not a lot of faders i think you'll follow probably all their flyweights maybe a powerful one or about that's actually insane but man you've been in there with some of the best 135 and blow goes you know what the world has to offer like i know you fought uh matisse as well you thought liam giddens and then one person he was like one of the biggest prospects in the world was mohammed moncayev as well what was it like to fight him because like the whole world's looking at him there was uh i suppose the next khabib that fight really annoyed me um anyone who knows me i know he was anything about that fight i would chase him for i mean years cheers never years never never fought me um i think like i was supposed to fade him on catholic gladiators and stuff and he sort of didn't want to fight you fly with it even if you refuse to face flowers um to the point where the motor was actually gonna put on like a fifteen eight and a half kilo belt or something i think what nonsense is this like fitness just like give them a favorite flavor they can't make it wrong with veggies and then uh i was on the on the way down the stream it was a thirteenth and my phone broke was like nothing i'm not even mentioning your story you know i clicked and it was like uh show me show me that you're a real chunk man i call me two days notice i was like this is like so typical of something you do um and then that feels really he hear about me at the end of the third run uh because he got he was gazing out and i laughed and forgot it looks like i need a big mod charger but it was like it was him and my face and head with me first and that's why i made a pretty much hard time but i i don't really highly i think i think there's a lot of holes in this game um i'm just i'm surprised he hasn't found it the other pro i think if he's just the way he fought me if he fought me again now i would able to head clean off and he wouldn't i wouldn't have let him land my guard uh obviously and an armature i have sort of thrown up to me sometimes and you sort of like real heavy state rather than working sort of view them but then a pro game he will be able to separate him into my chest very elbow on the top of his head um it opens up muscle uh that's a fair look back but um i don't know if it will ever cross again maybe maybe the ufc um actually when the kids were tailing one their favorite saying through brave or whatnot the ufc but otherwise don't think are possible across you know fair enough just to anyone who's ever fought him i have to ask because we actually know his boxing coach as well he's actually uh so uh you know do you know john boyd you john hudson no i know i know all them um i don't i don't know him personally he was a professional boxer he's called the bumper and a banger uh yeah yeah he's peter yan's of struggling coach as well no he is indeed yeah yeah so he's uh he's won the creme de la creme um but let's let's get into uh your fight with conor wilson obviously this is a rematch and obviously you thought uh you won the first one we obviously know uh hometown georgian is a thing and how do you feel like it's going to go this time around oh there's there's there's like i i'm at the steeler i quote from jewels like owls and oranges um it's completely different this time like i've never had such a good camp just a whale structure camp my whole entire life and that's that's not not one anything i've ever been through and i think that that's just i've reported sex solid one's work i supposed to fade in march team and if it fell through the cove and stuff and that was all he's like yeah [Music] like no stone unturned everything is just my perfect camp [Music] um also now now that you've gone back to flyweight how much notice would you need in advance before you had to step in the cage like say like like would you need at least six weeks to make the weight or how does it work for yourself now well ideally i would like they have like time but i mean given given an opportunity i don't i don't know it's different now i'm allowing people now or maybe shoot in terms of when they let me fight but i made it fly we don't eat death notice against lame guns um i fought at fault and getting something doesn't work like 10 kilos um another next-gen lad he's not actually he wasn't actually alive he was like so important i thought i thought um yeah you can get legal as well if brady wants to know karen mulholland just like lives there so it the exchange again demons is like once won the fly away to bantamweight rolled up they're scrapping he calls him out straight away oh me that's uh and it's so funny um i i actually i was thinking with the door to him i thought like hers are actually there ever nathan's home like maybe coming over to the freight academy they just want to do a couple rounds with me um before carl carmel's master gets sort of announced he said well whatever after this finale because um he was like so real real and big cap i mean uh he said maybe me come over next year so i could sort of pop up made me ponder like who right now forward like it's called swagger like i don't go over i'm gonna be like name how he is fought you like connor how he has fought you like just just fought everybody it was like so i don't know if he totally elegant look this way you probably thought everyone in your own gym as well just not not in a competitive and may match the weight on your record yeah but that's it and that's that's the sport when we're in a crazy sport um look at the very top even like oozman and burns follow each other and they were training together for years so like it does happen so yeah you see you see that obviously it's going to be a great big grudge match you know authors who are fake their best friends like the paul craig fate last week they were slobbering and the other the next thing paul craig almost breaks your mind's arm very part of the guy after it's such a mod sport but i love it it definitely definitely is uh clear on just jordan from your record and seen your fight and then jordan from conor's record do you think you'll have an advantage on the ground here because you have a lot of submission wins and in his amateur career he has quite a few submission losses so is that where you're going to aim to take the fight i i'm just going to put pressure on from the very first bell if he if he goes the floor goes to the floor um if it does it doesn't dance coming in his fears um he's sort of he's a striker and he's good if he doesn't look good and he likes to stay stay on the other side some spend attacks in there but he sort of you can only do that to give him this piece of it and we understand the whole time my gosh tank has never been as good that thing's never been a problem but it's never been as good as and and we'll utilize his weapon we atmospheres from the first mill until the last milk however long it lost yeah kieran you're obviously opening up the card on saturday aren't you so you'll be on what like you like to you like to enter the cage you like to take your time so it'll probably be about quarter past one i'd say but uh how like obviously like this is that this is a big fight for yourself and your career like how important is this fight for you going into this fight on saturday oh yeah that's that's the massive thing um but i think when that when this fight was opportunising we we sit down as as a team like that i'm like how much i had improved from january 3rd until we got this we got that's over and we had six weeks from the offer and how the fight and we were like if i i've made so much improvements in this and that's and through these four months but hey mfa comes up made so much too many more and it sort of proves proven crack like i am doing the imminent improvements of sort of me on an open fade academy just train that that's such a structure twice a day every day and the immediate leaps and bounds begin a closer like too many small gaps about so many new tools um so this rate is massive that's when we're really confident with absolutely and so you should be you have a great team over there and up there in floyd academy so uh we definitely wish you all the best we'll be supporting our own uh despite that energy always having a few next-gen links of our own we're still going to be cheering on karen mulholland tell us this how do you get your hand raised what's what's what's what's the finishing combo or will we uh be leaving it in the hands of the judges i don't think i'd be gonna do this um let to judges for attending go away so i i'm going to be i'll say it endlessly for a minute one time not last but i don't think it's going to go 15. there we have a bottle of anything else to add in no that's pretty curious it's great to have you on as well because like i think we we've really had all the irish fighters there fighting this week on we just have one more deckies coming on as well but uh karen thanks a million for coming on and we really look forward to see the performance saturday you'll be out in the cage at a quarter past one on saturday so make sure everyone to check it out and tune in uh russ and elsa say i just want to give here on the floor just you need to say something here i just want you to sort of team all the training partners everybody at the fedex i know who they are and my sponsors we weren't responsible i'm gonna say getting on my facebook they'll be getting this they're getting the shirt off there we have it i knew he wanted to say something i could see him itching in there and guys if you did like this video make sure to give it a like and make sure to subscribe make sure to follow kiran
