Rock, >> are you intoxicated or something? Introduce their guest man. Today we are bringing you the grappling phenom, the head coach of Eric Grapple and the man behind ADCT. It's the one and only Kieran Davvern. Kieran, how are you doing my friend? >> Good lads. Thanks for having me on the show. Appreciate it. Good to see you. >> Ah, any anytime, anytime. Really, really looking forward for this weekend. But before we get into this weekend, I do want to touch on uh on the club because the club is on fire at the moment. Um, massive title uh uh win for uh Shane Don at your fighting championships and a couple of fighting announcements. So maybe we'll start with Shane. That that was a really really impressive. He's really coming on leaps and bounds. >> Yeah. Uh Shane Dunn, he's he's a he's a great young lad. He's a, you know, the definition of kind of like hard work, you know, and I know a lot of people say that, but just like lives in the gym, you know, like say um even if he's even if he's injured or, you know, he's, you know, maybe if it's a bit of a knock or something, he can't train, he's told not to train, he's literally on on the mat watching the lads train and kind of asking questions and stuff like that. So, um, good test for him at the weekend. Obviously, his opponent Adrian, um, had 16 fights. Um so it was a really good good test for us to see where um Shane's at and he obviously you know came through a little bit of adversity in the first round and then he won the the second and third round which I think was uh really good for him and he's obviously now seven and one and he picked up Ronan Degan's old uh bantamweight title from all you are which is pretty cool as well. Do you know what I mean? So the uh the next wave is coming through. >> Yeah, absolutely. And tell tell us about him. I feel like it gets to a certain stage with we sort of have a recurring thing on the amateur scene where someone is sort of the guy to beat and then they turn pro and then I feel like it's almost like a new lease to life when they turn pro but you feel like he's the guy to beat at bantamweight in Ireland at the moment on the amateur scene. >> He's definitely he's definitely up there. Um he's definitely up there with them. Um still has a bit more work to do on that but all the tests that he's kind of that have been put in front of him bar one he's passed. um his act his his last fight in the UK was a five rounder and it was at flyweight so it was at 57 kilos um and then he jumped in at 61 on nine days notice and then obviously this is his his third title so flyweight and bantamweight is where he's been kind of fighting >> um he's you know he can kind of fight between the two of them um I still feel that like there's obviously some really good lads in the country at bantamweight and that flyweight and I'm sure Shane's going to get those tests you know, over the next year and that and then we'll kind of see where he is, you know. So, that's what you want at amateur anyway. We want we want those kind of tests and uh see see what holds up and what falls apart and what we need to work on and stuff like that. But yeah, so far he's passed like say all his tests kind of with flying colors. Um he's been in in you know one or two kind of sticky situations in fights and stuff like that which is good for us because we want to see how he responds to adversity and under pressure or being under pressure. Um, so yeah, he's he's a definitely definitely has a bright future ahead. Um, and more importantly, he just has like a a great attitude, you know, he he really really is the the full package like especially like he's a coach's dream as in like he's a you know, just so such a hard worker. So so respectful, so you know, hard work, great teammate and everything else. Just ticks all the boxes, you know, really really good lad. >> Is it true he won't accept any future fights in Leicester for belts at the moment? That's that's the word in the street now. He wants more belts. >> That is what Shane Don has put into his agreement. That's that's in his membership in the gym. >> Yeah. >> He won't fight for for he won't take any fights unless it's for a belt. But uh yeah, no, I'm like with Shane and that he's uh >> I think I think he wants he wants a tough test and that you know what I mean? So he's um >> and like I said, last weekend was like a really tough test for him. Adrien Barrow >> 16 fights. Um that was I think that was his 16 fight and uh it was a really good test for for Shane and it showed us where his game's at. Um we obviously took a lot from that, a lot of positives and then a lot of stuff um we literally had a conversation about this morning in the in the MMA the team MMA session about the stuff that we feel that he needs to improve uh from that fight and a couple of mistakes that he made. But um you know that's that's the goal is to use amateur to learn and get better and get the experience under the belt. >> Absolutely. And Adrian Bar was refusing to take any more fighters from air grapple anytime soon. No, shout out to them. I actually watched the the whole fight. It was really good. Uh some of the head kicks that Shane was landed in the fight were looked really really good. He he looked like he's really well around in his game. But uh speak you sort of mentioned it there previously and we might as well move on to uh the next grapple athlete Rowan Degan. H might be a main event slot h up in Clan Wars. He's taking on Shane Mullen h Irish on Irish battle. Look, I feel like that fight's going to get a lot of eyes on it and two Irish pros uh both both had successful debuts going to. So, um tell us what are we going to expect from Ronan come this fight? >> Um I think you're going to like you can expect the usual from Ronan, you know, high energy, high pace, good kind of uh smart, you know, high level kind of fight IQ. Um but I feel that he's added a lot more to his game. Um, and not just, you know, like if I if you were looking at Ron and you were kind of like say game planning Ronan um on the previous fights he's had, I feel that he's going to show um a lot more in different areas in this next fight. There's just a well or more well-rounded skill set. Um, and I feel just Ron is just getting better like week by week. Um, and he he really is like say he's again he's like he's like Shane just make my job easy. like they're they're they're 100% all in like never switch off you know so in the gym like they're they're thinking about you know asking questions and they're kind of bouncing you know ideas and questions off me and the teammates and stuff like that and after training asking for feedback and what could I have done better here or how did that work today or how did that look we fix that thing and what do you think about adding this in and just kind of like not just training for the sake of training if that makes sense but I feel uh I feel Ronan's you know one of those lads lads that um hasn't hit his prime yet but I feel like he's starting to come into it. You know what I mean? He's getting he's getting like say really good spars. We have some good sparring partners out in the gym, some really good Ukrainians, uh you know, wrestlers, boxers, kickboxers that have kind of moved a ton of more and kind of testing testing lads in different areas. And then we have our, you know, our our core MMA team, you know, say Shane, Andrew, Jay McCourtney, you know, all these lads, Mantis, all these lads have been there. But we're getting like different looks. >> And uh honestly, when I seen Ron Sparring this morning, I was like, "Right, he's like everything's trending." uh towards like having a fantastic performance. >> Yeah, because in the buildup to the cage warriors Dublin that's also happening this weekend. Uh we put a question box out saying what sort of all Irish fights would you like to see and a lot of people actually put in Rowan Degan against Shane Mullen. So uh it's funny now how that is going down clown wars the 25th of October. Uh we were actually talking to both lads and they both said they'd come on and do an energized face off in the buildup for that the same way we did for Dane McKenna and um >> Keith Ko. So, uh, that's definitely something to look out for. But, uh, there's also another pro fight going to be on the card as well. It's Roger Lopez against, uh, Andrew Bart. Um, like Andrew is now moving into the pro scene like, um, like do do you think now is the right time or what do do you think you could have got him to turn probably sooner? >> No. Like, say, um, I think everything happens for a reason and I feel that this is the perfect time for Andrew to uh, turn professional. He's uh you know he has his own gym setup now. He's you know he's training partners there. He has um you know he's a lot more kind of I suppose settled in his you know his his own personal life and stuff like that. You know obviously has a has a has a gym and you know other kind of factors that kind of allow you to settle and kind of focus 100% on fighting. >> So I feel that with his skill set and with the year he's had of just like refining his skill set and adding stuff to his game and that um I feel this is the best time for Andrew to turn professional. I feel that the fiveminut rounds and uh you know the extra weapons that you can use in pro are going to suit him a lot better um with the way he fights and stuff like that. So, you know, without giving too much away, I think it's uh I feel that Roger's um record doesn't um reflect his skill set. You know, I feel that like he's he's dangerous in, you know, in all areas. You know, stand up, clinching ground. Um that being said, I feel that uh Andrew has the tools to get done. Obviously, it's a fight. um you know, you have to respect everyone on that, but like I feel that just where Andrew is at the moment, I feel that he's um yeah, if he gets to if he gets to the the fight to the areas that he he's he's going to be trying to get them to I feel that there's not too many people that can stop him when he gets there. >> Yeah, I I I really feel like 2022 was the year of the king of hell. H like that year he went on an absolute roller coaster journey and he he he is absolutely must see TV. He's someone who I think will actually do much better on the pro scene than he does even did on the amateur scene cuz he seems to really get into the intricate details of the game. And that's something that I always found fascinating about him. The way he spoke about things like he almost as like a generic interview in a question or or question in an interview and then he'll start giving these really intricate details to the answers and that's something that you can clearly see his implement into his fight game. And I also feel like he'll be a promoter's dream. I can see him signed to, you know, the likes of a cage wire or something like that. And then like they get him. He's a real character. He's someone uh who is really authentic to himself, but he's so intriguing the entire time. And like >> he he he's actually the closest thing I can describe him to, he's almost like Ireland's answer to Rory McDonald, like when he's in that cave. >> Yeah, he is. He is. He's uh >> he is. Yeah. And like it's almost like >> the worst thing you could probably do was ever make him bleed in a fight cuz uh that that'll that'll turn him up a notch, I'd say. >> Yeah. >> That's someone you should get to do a face off. >> Yeah. >> Because I think you had him on before for a face off and that and it's like it's it's absolute gold. And what you see on camera and that is who he is. You know what I mean? >> He's not he's not playing up to it. That's he just has a camera in front of him so he gets to express himself even more. >> Um so that that would be that would be a good one as well, I feel. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. He's He's Max. >> He loves the violence so much. He's really articulate about it. >> I think it was Max and Tieran, wasn't it? >> Yeah, we definitely had him on a couple of times. Yeah, I remember the Max one. Definitely. Yeah. >> Um then like like obviously you're going to be running your own show Evolution on the 30th of November like um what can the people sort of expect from that before we get into this weekend's ADCC? >> Yes. So that's uh we've been running uh running that show since 2013. Um I was the first one in TMO in the bridge house and it's kind of come full circle. It's back to the bridge house in Tulmore and uh it's basically what it is in a nutshell is it's a it's a platform to promote um you know local fighters and fighters that live you know I suppose all across the country and stuff like that um to help them kind of build their brand and you know obviously get the experience and everything else that comes with uh fighting an amateur MMA. Um, for us it kind of promotes MMA and kind of martial arts in the Midlands, you know, because there is no there is no other show in the Midlands, you know, most of the shows are kind of like Cork, Dublin, um, the North and stuff like that. So, for us, it's the the center of the country. So, anyone that's within a couple of hours drive, it's a it's going to suit them. Do you know what I mean? But, uh, we, yeah, we're just trying to just put on the best matchups we can. Um, we would like to do like say as many MMA kind of matchups as we as we like. So, if you if you want to get involved, obviously shoot the page a message. Um there's obviously room there for some K1 and that, but obviously uh we'd love to kind of push it towards more MMA kind of uh matchups on the show and that. So, that's the goal. Um you know, it's obviously tough running an MMA event in Ireland, and we're just doing the best we can to um put on a good show, give fighters kind of give give fans kind of the the good fights they want to see and give fighters the matchups that they want. So, um, yeah, it's always a good night and the it it sells out in in the bridge house and just the way the the the venue is, it creates like a a brilliant atmosphere, you know, cuz every everyone's on top of the cage cage is in the center and then there's like people uh surrounding all areas of the cage. So, um yeah, it's always a good night. >> Yeah. >> 30 30th of November, we'll uh we'll definitely be looking forward to that one as well, K. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, absolutely. Actually, there is one person I do want to give a special mention to from your gym. H fair play to Shane Smith taking that fight on short notice against Ryan Kelly who's one of the hottest prospect in the country especially after not fighting for 13 years. What I kept that I had to kept on double checking that like it'd been 13 years since he stepped on cage. He is as game as they come. He does a lot of things for lads down in the gym down there. So just want to say special shout out to like 13 years is a long time in between scraps. >> Yeah. No, it's a long time and he deserves a shout out in fairness to Shane. He does like the he's he he does all the weight cuts and the SNC stuff with the lads. He's a brown belt in jiu-jitsu. Um and he he he he walks the walk, you know what I mean? He's after regardless of the result and that um the shape he got into and the work that he put in and that like the lads got to see that and he obviously inspired the lads. Um and he's jumping into ADC next weekend. So he has a there's a fire a fire lit under him and there's a few things that you can't kind of replicate unless you're in in the fire. So in competition um you know ironing out a few creases and that and then getting back in there before the end of the year. But um yeah he he's uh you know he he's he he's le he led by he led led by example you know what I mean he was leading from the front and and the lads all see it we all have like we have huge respect for him anyway but even more >> after him doing what he did against uh you know stepping up and fighting like say Ryan like you said was a really really good uh really good fighter and is going to go on to do great things. >> Yeah. No fair play to him. Fair play to him. But, uh, you sort of alluded it there, ADCC, uh, this Saturday, 27th of September, we we're going to be there. Absolutely buzzing for it. Looks like it's going to be an absolute terrific event. H, how much are you looking forward to it, Kieran? And how long has this event been in the works? >> Oh, I can't I can't honestly can't wait. Like ADC is one of my favorite weekends. um when when all the work is done, I kind of get to like sit back and just look at like say all the kind of the talent that like compete in the country, do you know what I mean? From like upandcomers kind of like breakout kind of uh young lads that have like breakout moments, you know, like say kind of like say maybe a new purple belt or blue belt that just like rips through everyone. It was like where did this young guy come out of? And um and then you get like say your your your brown and black belts that have been kind of around for a long time, you know what I mean? Um, but for me it's just an amazing weekend of jiu-jitsu and just watching high level jiu-jitsu, watching all the kind of newest kind of like positions and techniques and stuff that the the lads are using, you know, like you get young lads are 18, 20 years of age and are kind of like come up with new stuff. There's new trends the whole time and stuff like that for me as a coach and not seeing that as like a is brilliant and I really do enjoy it, you know, meeting all the meeting all the coaches from different gyms and chatting them and old training partners and friends and stuff like that. I I really love ADC. It's been in the works like um it's been in the works I suppose we've done uh say four events this year and all year we're basically working on it you know what I mean and there's like loads of stuff going on in the background um we obviously have some good stuff with uh you know planned for this ADCC we obviously the partnership uh with yourselves um you know tatami we've some other stuff in the work that we're going to announce with a brand new belt uh brand new medals which we haven't released with kind of uh we got really nice medals for this weekend um we got like say there's thousand euro prize money for the professional absolute both for female, male and female. Um we we give out kind of like say prizes on the day for like say submission of the day and kind of like you know stuff like this and stand out of the day. We kind of surprise people with you know bits and pieces and stuff like that. So um yeah, it's going to be a good weekend. I'm really looking forward to it. >> Yeah, absolutely. And we're we're buzzing to be there uh live in person. the first jiu-jitsu event that we've covered ourselves. I I actually can't wait for and like you said like some of the best grapplers in this country have been and competed or are competing uh at ADC. Uh I know John Lucas competed there. We've had Max Lally uh Germaine, you know, uh George Santos. The names go on and on and on. It's it's really really high level stuff. And like >> yeah, >> we're basically going to see who who's the best no geek grappler in the country. uh this weekend. Like that's that that's that's the hooks and crux of it. >> That's the thing. Both male and female. Yeah. >> Yeah. Exactly. I'm really looking forward to seeing Zar Dano uh as well. Like I feel like >> Grace Calling is another one to look out for. He's really high level as well. >> Exactly. You know what I mean? And that's that's the thing like constantly h obviously you know we love from coming from MA side seeing the MA guys go in against the jiu-jitsu guys and see see how that goes on. So like there's so much in intricacy in each each battle and like you know I always say every dog have it day and like someone could be a really really high level grappler but they might be weak against a certain style and that person might just have that style on the day to beat them. So that's where it's really going to come down to it. But uh I suppose maybe for those who are less knowledgeable on it, what way will this work with uh with with the brackets and the rounds and you know how do we determine the winner Dave? So basically it's a it's um you know a bracket say tournament. So you could have like say depending on the size of your division you'll have like say three to four matches or five matches depending on on how big the division is >> and then uh two sides of the bracket and then when you win out your side of the bracket and say the your obviously opponent wins out the opposite side of the bracket you meet in the final for gold. And if that's if if you're if you're uh not doing the professional division obviously that's a you know that's where where it kind of ends. you win you win your medal and so on. But if you are in the professional division and you get uh gold, silver or bronze, you have a chance to reg register for the absolute division and win the €1,000 uh prize money which is which is free. It's just included in your registration. Um and then also what you'll see on the day as well is we have there's six six trophies for um best teams and bestmies. So what you'll kind of see on today is um loads of kind of teams andies like say rallying together trying to get as many medals as they can to win the overall team trophy, you know. So there's a bit of prestige there and we we have some really cool uh trophies um 80C kind of gold kind of like plaques and that for the gyms and stuff. So yeah, it's a really really good day. Uh music music playing. So it's a little bit different to your standard kind of jiu-jitsu tournament. It's kind of nearly like an 80cc trials type feel. There's like kind of music kind of playing in the background and it nearly just feels like a it feels more of an event than a jiu-jitsu tournament. You know, it's different. Like you say, it's a ADCC is a really exciting rule set because um you kind of hit the nail on the head. It brings out it's it's not just the jiu-jitsu guys. It's like you bring out grappers, you bring out like say your, you know, your wrestlers, you bring out say some judo lads, you bring out your MMA fighters, you know, you get like say a load of M MA lads stepping up and and the rule set um encourages kind of like excitement, you know, a heavy kind of heavy kind of wrestling and uh submission heavy style. It's uh it does make for a really great day and and then as well like say which is really good. Another thing kind of look out for on the day is like you some really good Irishbased athletes, but you've lads flying in. We have a few lads flying in from America and the UK and across Europe and stuff like that. Some sometimes you don't know anything about them. Um, and then they come in and they they kind of do some damage in a division. Sometimes they win a division. And then what we've seen before when Max Lai won in fairness to him, he took out uh a really good uh black belt from I think he might have been based in America, but he won like the Panams as far as I as far as I know. and then he got to show the level of Irish jiu-jitsu and kind of represent all of us and the level of jiu-jitsu in Ireland. So, it's pretty cool. You get to see like the Irishbased athletes kind of like stepping up and then like same at the last tournament actually last ADCC we had there was a lot of uh Irishbased athletes that won the pro divisions even though we had a lot of people coming in from like the UK, Europe and you know America and places like this. >> And Dave tells us what's the story for spectators if someone wants to just come watch. Yeah, you just basically just come come on the come on the day. You pay I think it's like 10 or something on the door and uh you can go in and out as much as you want. There'll be food there. There'll be like uh coffees. Ronan Degan is actually shout out to Ronan. Ronan is actually has a coffee business set up on the side and that's what he kind of does at the weekends and that and he will be selling coffee there. So, um you can have a free coffee on me and Ron. No, my joke and take that out. >> Yeah, make sure you're supporting that that local business. go support him because he's he's trying to build something up along the side of uh you know side of fighting as well. Do you know what I mean? Which is smart. Um so yeah, he he'll be there to be like say uh merch for sale. There'll be like lads selling food and that type of stuff. So it's a good day, you know. It's really good day. >> That night then if you're if you're in Dublin, you can tip off the cage wars as well. >> Um so you can do a whole day of like say grappling and uh then MMA that night. >> And what about people cheering in online? >> What's that? people in be. >> Yeah, that's a good question actually. So, what we're doing is we're streaming it for free on uh my YouTube channel. So, be on the KD grappling YouTube channel for free. You can watch all four mats and kind of float between the the the the matches and stuff like that for free. So, just literally just click click on the channel and it's a free stream. So, you can watch it. Just kind of help promote the athletes. >> Yeah. Yeah. And if you're and you're looking to see who who the athlete are competing on on the day, get over to Smooth Comp uh and you'll be able to see who who everyone is uh competing. Uh registrations are open till the 25th. So this will go live on Tuesday the 23rd. So you'll have two days left to to register. Uh do you find the trend is you get people registering right up at the last minute of >> Oh yeah. Like we get people like registering like say trying to register after it's closed. You know what I mean? I don't know how many Instagram messages and that. We try to accommodate everyone and look after everyone. Do you know what I mean? Because I know the crack of competing myself and stuff like that. But yeah, we get people like registering all the way up until uh like a minute before it closes. You know what I mean? >> No. Brilliant. And um with that being said, uh is there a few few people who who've registered who've sort of caught your eye who uh you're like, "Oh, I can't wait to see that person that person go." >> Yeah, kind of. We we've we've mentioned a few of them but like say um obviously you know two girls there like Zara and Grace and not like say really high level um two of them two of them were competing at ADCC trials uh recently John Luca that was competing at trials um you know let's say a lot of athletes from for my own gym and then there's there's other you know young lads and I watch from you know I said likes of East Coast and Rhino and you know all across the country to be honest I just I just appreciate good kind of grappling and people with good attitudes and who go out and try their best and stuff like that but um yeah kind of nearly too too many to too many to name, you know what I mean? But um what really excites me is just looking at a young lad or someone that I don't know and then I'm like, "Who's that young lad?" You know what? He's after smitting like three or four people in a row and I'm like, "Oh, who's that lad?" And they're like, "Oh, this is a young lad from such and such. He's only 18 or 19 years of age." >> Um you know, the caries down in Cork are excellent. You know, one of one of the brothers, the younger brothers won the um we did the um juvenile uh competition there a few months ago and then he won the absolute belt and he went on an absolute tear. you know what I mean? So, I I just I just appreciate good grappling and >> yeah, we actually saw Shane get a lovely knee bar at Akuma, which is uh obviously, you know, knee bars are aren't that often seen on the MMA circuit at amateur level. So, >> Shane's very high level, really high level grappling, you know, really good grappling. And that's the thing I I think like you know getting getting more into the scene on our end. I'm looking forward to seeing like sort of the the teens this year and then maybe the teens at the next event because like those teens can come on leaps and bounds so fast. Yeah. And they can really >> make their way up up the ranks very very fast. So like I'm actually buzzing to see them. >> You know what I mean? >> Sorry. >> Go on. I was I was just going to say uh I'm looking forward uh in the in the Masters division to see uh John Kelly from Checkmat cuz he's he's 50s now. So I'm like I'm like that's the thing like you know what I mean? Like you know obviously the Masters is over 35s but like there's no there's no upper age cap on it, you know what I mean? And and like he's a serious black belt and uh yeah what's called uh I'm looking forward to seeing him compete on the day as well. And in fairness to John like say he registers for every competition and he jumps in. I don't know how many matches that um he's after having you know what I mean? He's like he registers for most IBF and most kind of like um compet or competitions on the the you know the regional scene and that and uh you know another lad that's leading from the front you know what I mean? Um I I I feel that like say with ADCC like a big thing that I kind of want to I suppose put out there is like with with ADC Ireland uh you know coming back in the last few years I feel that what we've kind of helped do to some degree is we've helped promote ADCC in Ireland. So when people um you know fly across to uh do ADCC trials um what happens is like the Irish athletes do a lot better because of the rule set and because of like say the um you know just getting the experience on the shows and stuff like that where if there was no ADC scene here in Ireland, people don't really get the opportunity to learn how to compete under the rule set and stuff like that. So, I feel like this year ADCC trials, there's, you know, there's a lot of Irish jiu-jitsu athletes, and I feel that's like you said, the the teams and that that are coming through. Eventually, you're going to see a lot more teams competing at ADCC trials and hopefully winning a ticket for the World Championships uh when they come about every, you know, two years. So, you'll be competing against like the the highest level in the world. Like that's where for anyone that doesn't know that's where you have like >> your Gordon Ryan, your RTO and Tackets and you know uh all the Dan her death squad compete and stuff like that's like the pinnacle of uh of grappling is ADC Worlds. >> Yeah, absolutely. You know what I mean? The that Dener death squad have really had a hold over the jiu-jitsu world over the last couple years. But uh again like like most things it comes in peaks and troughs and it would be great to see more Irish athletes get onto that that world stage and compete there and this is a great chance for you to start that platform uh compete under that rule set so you you know what you're competing to when when you do go and I know there's uh a good load of others people went over to the ADC trials over in was it Poland I think it was uh a couple of weeks ago. So, um, >> yeah, that was the background. Yeah. >> Yeah. So, look, look, look, this is going to be an absolute sensational event. It really, really is. Like, there's people who, uh, I'm starting to really take note of. Like, I think the men's 91 uh, kg professional and I think the 76 is one that I'm really looking forward to. Like you said, Mark DS in that 76 kg bracket. He's he's definitely someone uh, to look out for uh, training out of Primal. And then obviously, you know, Steu Mal Peters in that 91 kg bracket who who I'm also looking forward to seeing. So like there's there's some phenomenal athletes from start to finish and it's going to be an absolutely sensational event and hopefully we give you lots of coverage on the event. That's the plan. And uh you know, we'll be able to appreciate >> show show a few matches on the day. >> No, we appreciate it. Um and it's good to kind of show the level of of everyone in the country and that and uh I feel that you know a lot of the Irish athletes don't get the the credit they deserve. you know, a lot of time it's different countries in Europe and, you know, said likes of America and that just because of the coverage and that they're getting, but there's some really high level um jiu-jitsu athletes in Ireland. So, it's great for them to have this platform and for them to go out and kind of showcase their skills. >> And tell us this uh looking at it now, is John Luca the man to beat come uh come Saturday? >> Yeah, John Luca has to be the man to beat. You know what I mean? In fairness to him, he's uh you know, he's he's he's on a he's on an absolute hair. uh you know super composed uh really good you know he's really good well-rounded game and he's won it he's won it twice um Eric Souza's won it um three times um Eric's Eric's not in this one but yeah has it has to be John Luca but um you know even the likes of Germaine and that like in fairness to him is uh he's another lad that hasn't I don't I feel he hasn't um he hasn't hit his prime yet or he hasn't had that >> he's only >> yeah even though he's only 5 like say I feel like he won he won the last ADCC but I feel that every ADCC I see him kind of like getting he's just getting getting better you know what I mean he had a good run at ADCC trials as well and I feel that you know he's obviously he's very physical >> and uh you know he's a good good athlete in that and I feel like the the technical is is is there and the uh strategically he's getting a lot better as well you know ACC isn't just about technique and physicality it's about, like I say, having the right strategy um because of the rule set and so on. So, I feel that when them three align for him, I feel he's going to do a lot of damage. So, he's definitely one to watch out for and he's he always puts on exciting matches. Him and Will Flurry have had some bangers over the last couple of years, good kind of like stand up wars and stuff like that. Um so, yeah, he's he's always there about. So, it's it's interesting, you know, cuz one one mistake could cost you and there's no guarantee and sometimes, you know, one mistake can cost you the whole the whole match and sometimes when you're the favorite, it can uh it's added pressure, do you know what I mean? And sometimes when you're the underdog, you have nothing to lose, only just go for it and open up, you know? So, that that's what makes it exciting. >> Yeah. E especially especially, you know, someone like John Luca, he'll have the target on his back. So, everyone want to get that scalp. >> Yeah, 100%. Yeah. No, he he's the he's the man to be uh at the moment. So, you know, like if there's a if there's a lad, like you said, an up and cominging 25-year-old that wants to uh to make their name, uh no better person to to try and beat. But obviously, they're going to have to work cut out trying to beat John Luca cuz he's uh he's very good and he's on a tear at the moment. >> Yeah. Well, there we have it, Bas. Like, look, I'm looking forward to it more and more every day. I I think that uh it's going to be a a phenomenal show and like I said, it is going to be an event, an event not to be missed. So, we're going to talk a bit about uh some of the fights that happened over the last seven days. We're going to start off with uh Patty McCari got his hand raised over at Dana Weiss Contender Series, but did not pick up uh a contract. Barry, me and you both watched this. Um so, obviously Patty won the fight. He looked like he was looking for the knockout with that check right hook which he sort of talked about in the VT um before before the fight. What you make what Dana had to say about him after the fight? >> Um to be honest just sort of looking at the fight itself. Um I don't the way they were saying that like he was the favorite and then he was saying that Hang was the favorite. It was changing a few times. I I didn't even know if they made a mistake in that or not. Then uh just the way like he won the fight like Hang actually just didn't look sort of on his level. Um I know they said Hang hadn't fought in a few years and he came back and like this was a huge opportunity for Patty. >> Um >> I think Wang had the look if you know what I mean with all the tattoos and stuff like that. They were like this guy has a bit of something about him in terms of the look and if he can fight >> he could be a star >> over the agent marker. >> Like I I'm sort of like was that even Patty's toughest fight? Like look, bear in mind now he did win in Dwont Contender Series. I know that's not on the Oh, sorry. He won on the Ultimate Fighter and I know that fight doesn't go on his record. So I don't actually don't think that was Patty's toughest ever fight. Um the thing is Hang didn't look it looked like he just couldn't knock that chap out like as well. um after Patty didn't seem overly happy with it and it is a very very tough situation to go into because it's sort of like right not only do you have to win but you have to win very impressively and >> you know what it's almost like going in to a Champions League match after winning the first leg 1 nil you're sort of make sure we win here but then like you also sort of want to put an exclamation mark on it and then at times like you don't want to force it because then you're not doing your you're not fighting your natural game and then if you don't force it well then you don't get signed So, look, it was one of those ones where I think Patty will probably come away from this. I I think Patty's next thing should be he should fight for the Cage Warriors middleweight title. I think that's where he should go next, win that belt, defend it one time, and then that will bring him to what 10 wins. And I think then he can go back on the Contender Series and get the job done. I know that's probably not what he was looking to do and like that wasn't that wasn't the goal, but I do think Patty McCari is a good talent. I feel like he will eventually get to where he wants to go. I just think maybe it's a touch of a blessings, guys. Like look at Patty Penney. He turned down the UFC, got a few more wins, got his got his game in better shape, and then look where he is now, you know? >> Yeah, but yeah, but he's still very young and his record is still very green. I think that's what now it's six and one >> I think seven I think now I think it was going into it. Yeah. >> Yeah. So I mean like look there's plenty of time. I know I know people can see that as the opportunity but like he could be called back in for the contender series in a few weeks time as well. Like this isn't >> 100% he's on the UFC's radar now. Like you I mean he he's probably on that list of like short notice middleweights that they could call to to have a fight. And again like the UFC is going to the UK at the moment once a year and it's going to Paris once if not twice a year. So there are cards in the vicinity of that region that he could eventually get on. >> Yeah. What what you brought up the what Dana White said. Do you want to just elaborate on that? >> Just Dana White just said you know maybe get a few wins come back. I I don't know what he said verbatim, but he I thought maybe as Dana White, it it felt a bit harsh or something at the time. Uh that he was sort of I think he said there was like delayed stall on tactics and stuff in the fight and like I don't really think there was but again like Dana's going to Dana. So uh look harsh at the office for Patty considering he got the one win but I'm sure deep down it feels like a loss from >> Yeah, I get you. I think it was it was at the very end when he shot the takedown as well. It just reminded me of Brendan Loch Nane getting the takedown and Dana going absolutely nuts about that. Like but then look at what career Brendon Loch Nane had multi-millionaire with PFL. So you never know. >> Yeah. >> Um% >> then moving on to Saturday night. The only Irish person fighting on the weekend. Dennis Frim Pong was victorious at Octagon 76. Ross, what did you make of the entrance with the Dennis hitting ping pong balls? Because I've never seen that type of entrance before in my life. Yeah, Dennis Framp, he is an entertainer. Uh, and Oon know exactly what they got. You know, the whole week he was uh he was at Cabal. He was um you know, they were sitting in different rooms and they could see each other and Dennis sort of had a bit of verbal go at him. You know, he had bit of back and forth with the coaches at the weigh-ins. He kept on you know, making Gabal flinch. He he he was in his head the entire time. And then come fight night, the thing is when you talk that much the way Dennis Pring Pong does, you have to back it up. And he backed it up. He got a third round TKO. Um he really pummeled Cabal uh come the end of the fight. And look, I wouldn't be shocked to see Octagon look at a title shot for Frimong. Like he brings the noise. He's the ultimate villain. You know, he's happily booed by the crowd. He doesn't care about that. So why not? Let's see it. Dez Fong fights for the Octagon title next. I'm here for it. >> 100% man. 100%. Then um that was all the action from the weekend. We're actually out Saturday night celebration celebrating Ross' 35th birthday, man. How's it feel to be 35, >> man? It's rare I'm as old as you, but these things do happen every now and then, you know. >> Yeah, they only happen about 10 months of the year, bro. >> So, um right, >> Ross, this weekend's action. Okay, starting off on Friday, the PFL is going to N in France and there's three Irish people to look out for. Uh, two fighters out out of SPG Ireland as Dar Kelly is competing on the card, undefeated Dar Kelly still. I think he's on like an 18 fight win streak, including amateur. And then also Claudia Pachella is fighting in the European lightweight semi-final. So, make sure to keep an eye on that. And then CMAX Kaio O Sullivan makes her pro debut on the card as well. Ross, you're obviously looking forward to all three fights, but which fight are you mainly looking forward to? >> I'm looking forward to seeing the debut of Kaio Sullivan to be honest. Uh I think she is an absolute phenomenal athlete. Um we've seen her headkick knockouts. We see her doing a lot of training with Iran Darcy and Shauna Bannon. She is uh for me the person to look out for. Now she has not been given an easy first opponent. Now Maria Gues Jr. it'll be her pro debut as well but I'm pretty sure she's like a world champion. So she will have a very high level uh grappling. I think these are two of the best uh debuting straw weights in the world. And I wouldn't say that lightly. This is going to be an absolute brilliant fight to kick off their pro debuts. And I feel like whoever wins this one will go uh go far and fast in the PFL. Uh I'm definitely looking forward to that. But also shout out to Dark Kelly who is taking on Baktar Abdulv uh 10 and one German fighter. I think Dark Kelly says he's been given five contracts this time for this fight and this is where he's at. And then Cladio Pella is one fight away from fighting for $100,000. So I'm looking forward to that. Uh but the other semi-final is also stacked with Connor Hughes and Gino Vancenis. Gino Vancenis is obviously the brother of Koslo Vancenis, the PFL middleweight champion. Yeah. So that goes down Friday night. We'll be giving you coverage on that on the day. Uh Ross, Saturday, as we said, we're going to be going to ADCC for 9:00 a.m. in the morning. So, we'll definitely be having one of them um world h sorry to more famous coffees from Rand man. Um at the moment of recording this right now, Solomon Simon was meant to be headlining the event against Aiden Lee, but Aiden Lee has now pulled out of the fight. Like I think if there was a belt on the line, I think there'd be plenty of people ringing up Ian Dean's phone without a belt on the line. I'm not too sure. So, we'll see because Solomon Solomon Simons is is a tough fight for everyone. Barry, I'm going to mill through this card here because we've talked about nearly every fight so far. Jamie Abby, Matthew Fel is going to be the party starter. Uh Jamie Abby Bisset uh obviously has multiple wins on Cage Warriors. Matthew Fel's own one. However, Matthew Fel does have a win over Jamie Alba Bisset uh at the amateur level. So, I'm really looking forward to seeing that one. What a way to kick off this absolute star sort of card. H Kenny Moanana was uh unfortunately uh on the receiving end of a loss last time out with Cage Warriors. He'll look to write that wrong against Damon Donald. Uh Damon Donald was actually scheduled on the Glasgow card at uh KW 187, but uh we all know what happened there with uh turn lock ran. Uh Emma Darcy is back. She's coming off the first loss of her pro career. She looked to write that wrong as well. Connor McCarthy, one of the hottest prospects, the hot stepper coming out of SG SPG Nate. Really, really looking forward to seeing him. Uh Joe Doyle brought a massive crowd. He's now fighting out CMAC for this card. He's fighting Jame on the night. Energize the face off.
