energize show up the irish okay what's going on guys and welcome to a brand new episode of energized the face off russ introduced the guest man today we have an absolute welterweight banger it goes down in cardiff and wales between the welsh gangster obam eliot and the beast himself matt bonner lads how are we doing the floor is yours man yeah good yeah i'm good thank you i'm good we were just saying offline to the two boys at this one it has to be the people's main event this one does have to be the people's main event but there isn't a fight on this card that i'm looking forward to more than this one you know we have auburn elliot fighting in wales he's going to bring a massive hometown crowd and then you have the former middleweight champion finally getting to make uh his return to the welterweight ranks i mean he was stuck at catch way for a while there and this one is going to be the catchweight division banger it is it is indeed matt tell us this how did this fight come about from year round because obviously obama was assert on this card uh it came off facebook uh funny enough i saw uh they were looking for a uh a guy to fight at 170 pounds for a five and two uh it didn't take no sherlock holmes to work out that was that was old band's record so i asked paul rimmer on the tuesday um and he confirmed it was over and i said you know what about about that fight then i don't really want to be wait until november and he said i can i can put your name across and and see what happens and i think it was signed and sealed uh that afternoon sherry and dean for getting this one done yeah shout out indeed and then obviously obama from your point of view you know i mean obviously there was a lot of no's uh when your name came across people's uh desk how happy are you that it went up as high as matt bonner a former champion just you know i was yeah but very happy because i feel like it's um you know a fight that i need like at that kind of level i might have kind of allowed my records obviously pretty um small you know what i mean but it's a fight i'm i'm i'm very happy to to take i i said yes in a heartbeat yeah i suppose you might only have seven fights but the name carries a lot more weight yeah yeah well exactly you know and i've um it's just what i at this point in my life this is a fight that i i need and it's a fight i'm gonna seize the seize the opportunity you know it's uh i said yes and a heartbeat i don't know what i'll be as you said i had a lot of no's i don't read too much into that um i just i just wanted to fight and i guess they just had to keep going up going up the rankings or whatever but obviously if matt's come looking for it then then you know all the better to him you know what i mean ma um i want to touch on this with you obviously um i want to see how do you feel about making that quote back down to 170 and what does a win for someone like auburn elliot do for you and where does that put you in the stacked welterweight division at the moment uh in terms of the court i was quite fortunate really um i'd kind of heard little rumors that there was going to be a show in september in manchester so i was i was dropping wait for that i ended up dropping about five kilo and got to about 85 and a half um and then the when we did see the cage was calendar the september show was san diego there is there is no manchester show but because i was kind of doubting down for this show that's not you know what happened uh it was an unfortunate place that i'd be confident i was gonna make the welterweight um my weight this morning is like 84.2 i'll get that down to 83 by the back end of this week and then it's you know a six kilo cup which shouldn't um touch would be too much of a of a bother uh in terms of fighting alban uh he has a name you know i say about about three times he might fight open hours but he does carry a weight with his name he's a he's a fight that people know you you guys yourself have said you know this is you know going to be a highly anticipated fight so that was it for me i mean the main thing was just staying busy i didn't want to wait till november to fight i wanted i was committed to four fights this year um which is why i've jumped jumped at this opportunity yeah and then obama yourself obviously a former middleweight champion like this would be by far the biggest test and the biggest win of your career if you were to pull it off what would a win over matt bonner mean to you um it's i get as you said it you know it'll be the biggest win in my career but it's not he's you know i'm not i'm not looking at him like he's some some superhero the same way he's not he's not looking at me like i'm you know some kind of different special kind of monster or anything you know he's just a it's a it's a cage fight against a man with two arms and two legs whether he's whether he's won a middleweight title or a heavyweight title or he's had 20 30 fights or he's had one or two fights it makes zero difference to me it's a cage fight on a saturday night over at the veil i was trying to get a fight for for weeks and weeks and weeks and when they come when they when they offered the beast i said yes straight away so that last beast the beast versus the gangster it would be uh cage wars 142 in wales live on ufc bypass on august 13th if you're looking to get at the moment because obviously molly and patty had it like enormous wins they both went mad it was unbelievable but also on the same weekend and luke royley and nathan fletcher were ready to make weight and both their opponents didn't show up so like what's the actual vibe in the gym at the moment uh yeah that was unfortunate with with luke and fletcher that obviously trained really hard for that i think luke riley is still hoping to to get this wales card and they're just trying to put an opponent together for him um it was disappointing and like you say it was the disappointment of the friday but then the elation on the saturday when paddy and molly went and stole the card again so it's it's good um i think next year in a position at the moment where obviously they've had the success you know in the ufc but they're having success on the cage worries having success on the domestic level as well you know i think certainly by the end of this year we're going to be known as probably um maybe you know the biggest one of the biggest gyms in europe um and to be a part of that is always great so the vibe's good i'm lucky to carry that through into wales next week yeah shout out to team next-gen and obama this is obviously going to be your hometown fight like what's the feelings going in going to be performing in the arena in front of your home crowd it's that's all well and good but um it's a it's a it's this is a fight made on 10 days i with all the all the home crowd um stuff last that don't really mean much to me at this point you know this is just a big big fight for me and um i'm just thinking about beating beating this man um that's that's all i'm concerned about whether whether i'm fighting in front of 20 000 brazilians or are you from liverpool if i was fighting in liverpool or if i was fighting 10 minutes away it won't make a difference it will not make a difference so yeah that's that's the baddest man that warrenton's ever seen oh man he's a warrington guy is he yeah don't say it in front of the damn banner lads interesting fact the last three times between these you guys have stepped into the cage it's finished for your rear naked choke uh i'll start with yourself oh man oh man do you love get get in the back is that something you'll be looking for well that i got really no you got you got a rear naked joke and matt's last two fights have been rear naked chokes all last year um i i just like fighting whether they turn away or they stay looking at me you know i'm gonna try and it don't you know i don't really care it's probably easier when they turn away though yeah i don't really i don't yeah i don't if they turn away then i'll just you know look for that but it's kind of it's it's not that deep with a i don't really fantasize over a real naked choke like i don't really care and then um i think i text you after your last for your naked choke i think i was giving you a bit of stick that you used the hooks because the first time you didn't use the hooks i was like jesus man you went all in on that one um is that some obvious that's a next-gen specialist that's something that you've been uh working on tirelessly uh i won't say tirelessly is uh by far the highest percentage sub you know mma is the real naked choke but i'm looking for a finish you know i am looking for a finish it just happens to be that this really naked chokers has been there at that point in time um i'm looking to be the immovable object in this fight i'm looking to i want to be big big in this fight in terms of the size difference um and be interesting to to kind of see what alban always thinks he is going to win the fight um because i'm not going to take a step back and you know i'm i'm not fighting for the three rounds this is whether it's a really naked choke or a tk or whatever you know i'm going to be looking for a finish they have open um matt wants to know what way are you approaching this point and how are you just telling me your game plan to be honest that's what i'm asking paying in your head for three rounds that's a bad game that's paid unmissable that's why he's the gangster what's called uh just pure violence in there that's my god that's what what way do you see the welterweight landscape looking right now obviously rhys mckee he's looking to get someone with the ufc uh there's also uh mike glack in the division as well don't want to get a toilet i'm sorry excuse me matt fig like shadow mike um my fig that's looking for a total shot as well like what way do you see a win in wales on the turkey in the box going uh matt you can go first uh i do think we're at a kind of a strange point in this division at the moment um when i first moved down into the welterweight division i think along with the lightweight division it was it was the strongest division and that's kind of one of the reasons that was the appeal of dropping down but now matt big luck you know he's not fought for a year uh jamie richards was not fought for a year rhys mckee is you know waiting on the ufc and you know maybe having a little bit of a sulk about that um jimmy wallet i assume he's probably going to fight rhys mickey at some point in november or december so yeah i do think and any dean said this for the most part you know the last time out that if i do get one more win that'll put me in you know a strong position to be having one contender um or way up there so yeah i'd i'd had to be better against any of those two obviously burlington's out the picture now as well i think he put on his instagram he's fighting kind of bid next year again so it is a bit of a strange point in the division and i just kind of hope that after this fight that rhys isn't going to kind of just hold on to the bell and you know hold it hostage because because you know cage where he certainly didn't give me that opportunity when i would the middleweight title uh i was told i could have one event off and then i'll be defending it so hopefully uh i'll see how a reese's fighting wallet or reese is gonna fight me at some point this year yeah it is very interesting oh man what would you what what do you weigh do you see the landscape as well yourself like a win against matt here a former middleweight champion this would be a huge one for your uh career yeah that that's it it starts and ends there i don't know why we're talking about reese mckee and jimmy wallet and matt figleck and all them all them all that other nonsense we're fighting on on a saturday but i don't know why we're talking about that i'm fighting matt bonner next saturday i'm not thinking about rhys mckee and who are the other boys i'm not that's absolutely i couldn't care less how's that sound oh van elio with total vision right you get your hand raised uh pain real pain what about yourself matt you might be in pain as well pain yeah um no um i think i'm by far probably the best best fighter opens for um i think i'll break him at some point in the fight but they'll come to a point where he'll realize that you know there's there's no way he can win in terms of on the ground or on the feet and then i think i will i think i'll put my way um probably uh beginning the second what say this is mma anything can happen but that's my strong prediction that's what i'm going in for um i i don't see any way of of of losing the fight i am there this isn't a short notice fight you know i'm not gonna be fitting off and oh they said i wasn't planning for auburn and we didn't kind of you know managed to look at the footage this is going to be you know a dominant performance from my side i think i think the uh hairs were raised in the back of my neck well uh who el chapo says let's throw some leather on this one oh you know what lads just before we wrap things up is there anyone to say to each other in the build up to this event it's going to be on miss bull cage warriors wales it will be live and you see five pass it is unbelievable uh no no no not really i think obama's probably a better talk than me i kind of do me fighting in the cage but like i say i'm i'm planning on finishing planning on doing that uh i'm just i've just said you know i appreciate uh we take the fight yeah you know matt it's um it'll be a good one there's you know we got 10 days to try and you know milk this one it's just i'm focused on you
