Go >> first annual Far Fighting Championship. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Um I have here Mr. John Kavanaaugh. >> Yeah. John Kavana. Yeah. >> All right. Uh first of all, welcome uh Comidential. Um >> talk to me. All right. You you did a jiu-jitsu match today. >> Yeah. Yeah. Jiu-Jitsu match. >> And it was a quick one. It was in and out for you. You didn't break a sweat. >> In and out the way the way I like it. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Um, talk to me about it. You you ended that with a buggy choke. >> Yeah. >> How'd you feel? >> So, good. The buggy choke is one of my things, so I kind of had a rough idea what he was going to do. I knew he's done IMAPs before. I knew he has an MMA base. I had a feeling he was going to come in and try wrestle me. So, I kind of played around with the wrestling for a minute, then said, "No, [ __ ] I'm pulling guard." And then just boogie choked him nice and quick, kind of in and out another day at the office. That was pretty solid. Um, you know, did you said you had an MMA background uh with the wrestling? Yeah. Like had that buggy choke not landing like how do you how would you feel about you know moving that around on your feet with the uh like with the wrestling? >> Good. Yeah. Okay. I feel I feel somewhat confident but as I say it was a lot bigger than me. Like I took this fight 80 kilos I scraped up to 75 kilos this morning away weighed in after a load of water, a load of coffees and with me hoodie and everything on. So, >> I was a lot smaller than him, so I didn't really want to get into a shoving match with him or like get a strength match with him. >> Yeah. >> So, I wanted to be smart and kind of play my own game and be smart with it, too. So, >> excellent. Uh, so with that buggy, was there is that something you practiced often? >> Yeah, I have probably 20 20 something in competition now. That probably be me 22nd, 23rd competition. >> The buggy chokes. >> Yeah, the boogie chokes. Really? Yeah. Yeah. >> Wow. So, you're kind of an expert at it these days. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. I'm getting called the boogeyman a lot. A lot. >> That's awesome. uh like what what disadvantages do you find by doing that? cuz there's got to be some and I know there's a bit of criticism when it comes to especially now I know this is a jiu-jitsu match but like in MMA at least there's a bit of criticism with the buggy chokes >> 100% there's like there's criticism with people saying slamming and everything I think if it's done right you're breaking posture down and you can't really get slammed but I think it's very effective when it's done right but there's definitely situations where it's not effective like if you're giving up your backyard just pulling to bottom side control to get a boogie choke >> it's not the best because eventually you're not going to get it >> yeah yeah yeah uh uh definitely don't want to do that Um, okay. So, I guess what what was the what was the leadup to tonight? Like like what what >> it was good. It was a bit mad. So, about about a month ago, I got called from me phase two um for me phase four from me apprentichip cuz I'm doing an electrical apprentip along with this. >> So, I had to move down to Siggo about two weeks ago. >> Okay. >> So, I've kind of had no training the past two weeks and kind of been going out a little bit and whatever. Not really living the lifestyle I should be living but that was the kind of lead up to it and I still got it done. I felt good tonight. I had done a few rolls last night, so that was kind of me game plan was do me rolls last night, see how I was feeling, what was working, and then use that to kind of game plan today. And the game plan worked today. Thank God. >> Heck yeah. Now, uh, you said walking in here, you had a D a little bit of a chest cold there. Yeah. >> Yeah. I've had a bit of a chest infection the past two weeks. It hasn't been ideal. >> What um did that play on your nerves at all or? >> Yeah, I knew I had like it's an 8minute match. I knew I had five minutes in me and then it was going to be rough. >> Yeah. So, I was kind of in the back of me. Get this done quick and get it done with heart. But that was good. I got it done. I don't know. It was maybe a minute. So, >> heck yeah. Good. Good on you for not dropping out cuz I know uh a lot of a lot of other folks may have seen that as a I don't want to say seen it as an opportunity, but maybe would have uh not saw it through. So, good on you for doing it. Thank you. Awesome for uh coming out with the win. >> Yeah. Um >> like what what what's next for you? Like do you are you >> So, I have a match next week. >> Okay. Okay. And then it's going to be a little bit of time off and then get into a good run after Christmas and really start January and everything. Just start picking it up, get a real good run going into summer. Hopefully stay injury free and then hopefully make one of the big European competitions. I don't know. Maybe go for IBJF or one of the big Nagas or one of the ADCs over on Europe somewhere. >> But we'll see. I'm kind of aiming aiming for a good next year now if you get me >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Get me college and everything done and >> it's hard. >> How do you feel? So, you're in college. Like, how do you how do you kind of juggle the two? Like, >> it's definitely hard at the minute. Like, usually I'm working full-time, which isn't too bad cuz I know I can get me training in the evening or I can get to the gym in the evening, but with college it's 9 to 6 at the minute in Siggo. >> Oh, man. >> And there's one gym and there the classes start at 6:00. So, it's a bit rough, but we're going to make it work. I'm going to keep getting me stuff done now and there. I'm going to keep getting me runs in, just stuff like that. Keep going gym. So, just keep myself active and just keeping up that momentum in there. Momentum is everything. So, >> keeping it up. >> Right. Right on here. Look, uh, I appreciate your time. I don't want to take too much more of it. >> Thank you, bro. >> Get out there, celebrate, and, uh, have a good rest of the night. >> Bro, thank you. Thank you for the interview. >> You want to shout anyone out or shout anything out? >> H, big shout out Silverback, everyone back home, all the boys from college, too. A lot of support from them, me and mom, me, dad. They look after me always. Kind of everyone, everyone you need to say thank you to. >> Right on, brother. Thanks. Thank you. Have a good one. Heat. Hey, Heat.
