Fansview MMA interviews Jordan Rutherford, an amateur fighter out of Aspire in Liverpool, ahead of his fifth title fight on FCC. He says he is the first amateur to fight internationally on FCC and that the bout adds a European title element to existing British/UK stakes. His opponent is Gano Juliani (described as 7-2 and second ranked). Rutherford recounts starting in white-collar boxing after moving to Liverpool, jumping into MMA, early wins in Scotland against coach advice, then a first-round loss that led him to stop training for years. After prison and turning his life around around age 28, he returned committed—no drinking or smoking—and rebuilt with finishes across Kingdom, Mighty UKFC, Almighty, UKFC, KCC, and FCC, with one recent loss to Jesse. He quit his job during an eight-week Thailand camp before beating Roman David after losing the first two rounds. He ignores manager outreach while staying amateur, plans to go pro after making noise on regional scenes, and praises Aspire’s depth of young talent. The interview closes with a call to watch FCC on UFC Fight Pass on November 30.

[Music] okay so I'm here with Jordan rudford uh who is fighting out of aspire in Liverpool who has four belts and is going for a fifth he's actually bed one of her own H I believe on on apfc you fought yes Paulo yes yes so um you first of all thank you very much for your time I appreciate obvious you're you're busy you've got a fight coming up for the fifth how are you feeling about going for the fifth belt and and just glancing at your record and kind of the titles you hold I would presume PL was probably in the not too distant future Yeah man so obviously with the fifth belt I then you're probably the first person to actually know about the fif belt mate really I'm not really told because I wasn't too sure where I stood it myself because I I just thought was defending me belt but apparently I'm I'm the first amateur to fight internationally on FCC so um what what doing is basically just adding I don't know if it's for him or thing but basically bringing a European title into it which is right so because essentially is a British title or the UK guys fight for it but um yeah man good good obviously I'm happy man but like I say man it's not about the belts it's um it's mostly just getting to fight a good guy like for this fight I think they were messing everyone above me in the topology I made clear that I just wanted to have a a hard fight mean so I'm happy they've got like someone from and he's he's seven and two and he's second and so it's good yeah no 100% that is good and SEC is quite the promotion how have you felt fighting on the show and and how are they to deal with for me the the one of the best between damn ukfc is quite a good one you've got alight they're all they're all they're all good now man yeah FCC is just different because it's got Fight Pass as well but at the same time I'm Buzz to be fighting on FCC I'm buz to be like up there last fight I was main event on FCC my first fight on there D they got me a good hard fight I was I was generally buzzing about it D really easy to work with like I say I fought on all different shows this year I fought Roman David on on Kingdom at the start of the year and then I F then I F Ash on Mighty ukfc all the shows man they're not Daft I think they need to they all should be looking about see who's doing what and it's like why you slacking man that's your competition yeah no okay kingdom is another one that was actually fantastic show and yes you did you beat Roman on that and I think he came back and he won a title here like two weeks later Roman actually kill F he's one of the most people isn't he he's he's it wasn't for the fighting that half outside like would get along you we get long anyway but you know I mean I was like time yeah if yeah well you might still it's a thing over here it seems to be a lot of Irish Fighters that end up fighting each other on the am scene actually do become quite friendly and then the last time I was when I was in Thailand last winter pumped into Max L and I was I spent loads Lo Max I love Irish man I think it's the yeah no Max Max obviously is a he signed to cage war is now himself he's uh's Henry as well Aaron Henry over there Aaron Henry but to get to where you are you had s uh MMA at some stage and what made you start MMA it actually wasn't the sport of MMA was it it was another story actually B yeah I used I used I used to live abroad when I was younger and then um basically I moved to Liverpool um and then basically just wanted to just can meet people on that so i' seen that white caller boxing so i' generally done done a white caller boxing and then I done a then I was just I won that obviously but then before that I was sticking about watching MMA and at that time there were running like three or four weeks ahead of each other so when I done the Box some one I just jumped straight into the MMA and that was kind the first ever MMA fight I think I got like a spinning armar for for the submission that I drilled with someone the night before for the first time I Im so it was probably just like and I just always I loved it I like fighting man from Scotland it's one of things but I just I just clicked and then I had and then my mates had a show in Scotland and I took an m fight which is obviously stupid because he coaches here now like they didn't really know me then they just I just come off the white collar so I was like say garet that like will you come Corner me they're like no like def or not you need to go through a process Jordan that you can't just come off a white cor and start fighting am against like Scotland's top guys so I did anyway but I won I won the fight L I wasn't I didn't fight anyone good obviously if you watch it it's on YouTube somewhere you'll be find it I finished him in the third round man I was I felt bu I bounc the gym the next day yes d he's like said you're mad you and anyway so I started doing pts at the gym didn't start the classes yet I just done the pts I couldn't get probably get the fight team but the sessions were proper like they just were just mad like good good mad you mean I was like I need do some pts first before I jump in these the white caller box and a white caller anyway like what's that like six weeks to train seven weeks to train and then the fight then the pts and then my mates rang me again they were like oh we've got another show coming In Like A month's time do you want to jump on it again so I was like yeah [ __ ] it go go on there so I jumped on the show again andly I actually fought someone who now I think he's record like 9 and one or and two or something Mel I can't can't remember exactly he Rec but it's was good but at the time he was four or five and all so I went to De I was I've got another fight in that he's like oh my God what what he's like he's in shock he's like what are you doing lad he's like honestly what are you actually doing he's like bro you might go for MC MB m a check box and F before that exhibition like so anyway I took the fight man got ched out in like the first round so so that was it I was like that's why I stopped training for years it's like me Eagle got to me I told people I was a fighter when I wasn't a fighter do you know what I mean like back when I wasn't an actual fighter is to tell people I was a fighter wouldn't even dream saying that and now I am so it's just it's funny it's just funny the way the world works it it is and and obviously yo got Bruce obviously you done the white color you want it the MMA you w it and then obviously you thought you were Invincible going in and and taking these fights and especially when your coach said no and you still went and you won he's probably thinking like what the [ __ ] you're thinking look I'm just I'm a fighter I'm not gonna lose again like I was just like let's how sure you you mean but then at the same time I was like [ __ ] man like when I got beat I was like [ __ ] man like I remember up the stairs and seen him it was like he was waiting for me it's like he smel me coming the door I just there rubbing his eyes like see you [ __ ] soul and obviously you took a break then from MMA what made you come back to it like obviously you enjoyed it you won the the first couple of the first two fights in the the team but when you lost what made you was it something to say in that I want to give that another goal is it it was a priting if you've seen another talk about going to jail and stuff so I went I went to prison and then it was kind of just like when I come out man I was like [ __ ] me I've got a little GH and stuff so not not to get deep with it that like it's not even that deep but it was kind of just like listen I'm going to end up losing me a little girl here I'll go back to jail for longer than what I was in I was just like what's the point man I was like I just I need to find something that like and at that time I was I I was like wanting to fight to me I was just kep fighting all that way you jump in your car music's on and you're just H you're just fting in your head or do you know what I mean like you like you all your podcast stuff or your stuff that you have a hobby in just thinking about that so I was like thinking about like fighting in me head all the time any music come on get but F I was never doing nothing about it nothing do me so when I went you I was like listen 20 28 come out I was like nothing else to lose on it it's hard to make [ __ ] hard job to chase 28 but I've made it work my like I have pts I'm coaching I'm I'm fighting regular my fifth fight this year fifth title fight back to back do you mean like I was a this is a [ __ ] I was thinking about when the music come on do no just funny stuff like that I generally think it's just mad mad the way the world Works me like what for you won't pass you buy it yeah no congratulations for one being able to turn your life around and see the effects of obviously going to say what to do to your daughter but to to to go back to MMA and and have that the two years like that you're after having has been nothing short spectacular obviously there's good there was a loss in there there's ups and down highs and lows who lost is a lost Jesse I've on a little run again we need of Jessie man to be knocked down a peg to to realize like listen you're [ __ ] just because you're winning and finishing people like yeah regardless of how good you think they are man like someone's out there wanting it as well man so [ __ ] Jesse Jesse knock me down we we message now to day any Jesse's fighting I'm fighting same we go back to that be mates I'm actually doing that with Jesse you and I've still message Roman and stuff as well do know it's not not like that but I just in general it's just funny the way the world works then that that loss I tooken in fact it was just Jesse Yeah just Jesse Yeah and but like the the streak you were having before once you came back and you started winning the way you winning because there like there was a lot of finishes and and like that you were on a streak how did that feel to come back from having that L years ago to coming back and starting it again like this did it feel like the start of the previous time as well or it different because you matured like I say not at all because back then I was definitely not committed I definitely the stuff I do now I just did not honestly I was still going out all the time bu drinking smoking bu the lot L doing so now I don't do anything like that now I'm probably fresh heavy and stuff like that but but yeah so that's that yeah no and obviously where if for people who might not know you where have you picked up Titans you've picked up Titans in KCC FCC Almighty Almighty and ukfc Almighty Kingdom and the FCC yeah and like like good shows man so bu like yeah no they're all fantastic shows like I said we named out a couple earlier I forgot like Kingdom now what you make of the scene right now UK Ireland I think like the levels coming out of B countries at the minute is so this is going back to like when I fought Roman like go for Jess to Roman Roman was just like I was watching Roman's fight and going this guy has it man like he's fight like Conor McCarthy don't Irish LS like like I've still watched the fights and stuff obviously because they're good Fighters who's who's denying on that look at the gyms are in you it so when I was F watching that I was going oh my God the level here is crazy I was like it's it's good do so in Thailand that's all I was thinking about was like I generally need to really pick up my game here I can't go two losses back to back against what I was saying to myself was there was like if I get beat again this isn't for me because I'm getting beat off two guys back to back who who like even though you can bounce back and stuff I don't mean it like that I was that was like me saying to myself like deal breaker 28 if I'm getting beat here there's there's there is it's probably pointless you it so to make a living out of it anyway if I'm getting do you know what I mean like how can I start making a Liv I've not got time to to bounce back and start having all these losses and all bounce back gentl me yeah no 100% And like that going forward obviously I would presume after your next fight whatever the result is you're going to look to go pro with the likes of cage warriors uh you've got so many options now with cage Warriors pfl octagon and there is all obviously the regional shows as well the likes of FCC ukfc Almighty all them you've got a we at your disposal when you go pro like how does that feel to know that there there is so many places I'm getting loads of messies off managers and stuff now I'm taking really no notice because I don't want to get like even involved in that now I'm still fighting amateur I mean like me coach said listen just wait just don't look don't get involved in that stay focused just now when you're still amateur and stuff so I didan I have I have them but me obviously don't on that's why I'm wanting to go for the people like another belt like I'm like yeah I only went for these so people were saying like when I had two or the three and then when I was going for the you going for the fourth why you not just go pro and I'm like make noise on all these little scenes to mean like I know it's mad but that McGregor says it back in the days make all that noise on the regional scenes like getting all the belts even though he was talking about I'm just saying in general though MMA wasn't big back then so it was the pro that made the noise now the amateur Fighters are making the noise and then getting signed these Pro good Pro things because of all the stuff they did to amateur do you know what I mean yeah no 100% that's kind of where I'm at now like I'm just like looking then I'm not ask this fifth belt like it's honestly I'll fight you hard for it but it's not about the belt man it's just about putting in a good performance and generally really just making sure I am present with what I've been doing in the gym inside that cage man put put a marker on fight because not will be it it should be yeah no and like you said with what Conor said years ago H there wasn't really amateur you just went straight professional the rules set amateur was fighting Pro glovs [ __ ] with with knees and I think it was like there was maybe elbows but no knees it was it was weird it was it was nearly the same as as what professional is now but um H what was I going to say like throughout your career like when you took that loss like you said you didn't want a backto back one um and when when you won the next one did that feel much sweeter knowing that you were going to continue going forward and continue your dream then to fight that say that again sorry someone just me that no you're all right so when when after you lost the first it and then when you bounced back what was that feeling like to get that once the bell rang you knew yeah so that's so that's like to get the to get the win back after that loss yeah how what was that like emoly mate so obviously I this is this is what I was saying here so I made the decision here when I went to Thailand so when I was in when I fought Jesse I was I know had Thailand coming up okay and in between I got a lot injury and stuff so when I was in Thailand I was listen I actually quit my job when I was in Thailand yeah wrote all these goals down I was like [ __ ] it I'm going to [ __ ] I'm going to make sure these pay off you i' put the post out yeah I'm saving it for like saving it for like when me finished I'm going to post it it's like a date a time and I wrote down M it's crazy I haven't even looked at it since because I know it's there I don't want want to go in there and delete it Orit or mess with it and up put a new date in time I wrote every single thing I was going to do down lad crazy crazy M I haven't did the formations and stuff on the IMs because it hasn't went ahead with the for naations in the IM I had I had this booked it was your two hting me last fight and blah blah blah then they never got back to me till well later on and stuff but that actually quit me job in Thailand so when I was fighting Roman I put so much pressure on myself going if I can't beat him even though he was so good do you he is he's really really good I was like if I can't beat him like I don't see the point of doing this but I've quit my job and then when I lost the first I lost the first two rounds in that fight quite convincingly just I just couldn't get going me I just he was just dead strong on me remember Dean saying like what the [ __ ] are you doing like in the third round just snapped him head I was like [ __ ] hell man he's right man like what the [ __ ] am I doing I've just been in Thailand for [ __ ] eight weeks I was like what the [ __ ] did that all that money goes to waste I mean that's what I was just thinking I was like [ __ ] me I've quit my job I've spent all my money that's start the started saying that [ __ ] to myself I was like [ __ ] me man he's right man [ __ ] I've spent all that I've quit my job [ __ ] I've just come off a lost I am not [ __ ] losing again I next few rounds I finished him but it's just crazy that like like I don't know man I just I just love same me man happen yeah like that like you said that was a very tin line you were losing two rounds then that obviously your your coach had said it you had talk about what it was and that obviously kicked the motivation and and once that you knew that you weren't losing that fight that's it man I me honestly respect to Well's [ __ ] his nails a guy that I genely have so much high respect for after me he beat himan so was like [ __ ] yeah no 100% but with the jimm you're in obviously talk to us about like you've had some you've got some obviously big stars come out it you've got some upand coming stars coming out of it as well what's the gym like at the minute for you and just talk to us about the atmosphere there honestly really really good obviously you've got what happened to Liam last year Mar got injured s got injured loads of people everyone's back on the mats now I mean leam mcra back coaching training Mar long back fighting he's fighting Pro FCC the gyms flying man look if you look around this map R stuff like just just generally people de everyone on that M yeah has has been a champion somewhere amateur or G for belt or once for belt or had had once or definitely goingon to get all the 16 year olds in the gym one of my main SP partn [ __ ] 16 mean me man Nails Me nails same height as me nails do you mean making his M A debut yeah Ethan Kane Ethan Kane making his debut on Almighty I going to haveon I swear swear to God six' for me honestly I'm giving I'm talking about because he's a guy that you're gonna see everywhere like that what do you make at the levels now as such as young age have just improved so much is it mad obviously You' fought a couple years ago do have you seen the visible improvements yourself look at look at look at so in this gym here you've got obviously Tom Harvey one of the best bant around 18 Tyler darisha one of the best FES around 18 you've got Shay Williams best in the world 15 Regan M Regan Bellamy just just one that I mas best in the world 16 you know I mean like it's no joke these These are scary dudes for the AG I mean on the M all the m like all the bantams in that now who are 25 26 I mean like just saying M the level the level on the mat is crazy like I'm have gotted that I'm not a bantam because there's not there's not massive guys here apart from the good guys like ha class Tom Mullen Beast K mull you I mean so you still got all these all these killers here way I don't mean that me in general though it's the B small guys have got a good good bot group man that push each other all the time it yeah know and and obviously with the like you said those kids coming up there they're so so good and like obviously there's the main figureheads to look at like do they come in looking at like are you would you be a mentor to any of them would you be kind of to see the F me like this is the thing where the kids sold they've all done it since they were like seven and eight if they could be teach me stuff you it like that's that's pretty much the way it is man but yeah definitely I've got loads of kids that come up to me now like even the pts and stuff don't want to go with you because I've got all the belts and stuff and I I love that like once they hear that my story is like wow that's crazy I mean I've got a little B I love working with all the kids and stuff I've got a little girl old man obiously the kids probably take to me a bit more because I'm so friendly do you mean so it's just it's just one I coach the kids as well here you just coach only the ninjas but in general I've de sounds with all like Tom Bren and K arm and that you hear about me honestly these are little kids that are 50 against you hear of coming through again like this they all de they look up to us and that so what's good yeah no 100% 100% um I'm Gonna Let You Go I want to thank you so much for your time okay hon honestly been a pleasure buz I buzz it that mean you just got to have a proper combo man honestly yeah no it's a long time coming and and like that you're someone I took interest in and it was I think it was before you fought Jess and then I seen you fought Jess and then I seen what happened after Jess and I think I text you a while ago I took a break and then sometimes uh with inters they just kind of they happen when they're supposed to happen I think and I'm glad I've got to have this one now um is there anything going to say before you go thank you very much for your time listen honestly me just honestly man everyone just tune in November 30th can man listen if it's gonna be the last time or not g be some hell of a fight taking on him Gano juliani from ity good guy you don't know much about so it's going to be interesting man but well listen you man it's always a good fight man always in entertaining fights I'm looking as well I've always said to last with be in there for the five rounds I'll be in there for them if I need to be but that's coming to finish so perfect no yeah so everyone that wants to watch that you'll be able to watch FCC on UFC Fight Pass a fantastic show a fantastic Champion here and hopefully we see you going pro on the new
