Combat Confidential post-fight interview with Callum Little after GFC 2 - GladiatEire Fighting Championships 2. Little, who trains out of Sakyogi, describes winning by rear naked choke in round three after his arms were heavily fatigued and he had missed chokes while his opponent turned out. He frames himself as a jiu-jitsu-oriented fighter who competes in jiu-jitsu more often than in MMA, and says MMA feels vastly different once striking and big gloves enter the picture. His pre-fight plan was to test striking for reads, then take the opponent down and submit him; he recalls the first round as grappling-heavy, growing more comfortable on the feet in rounds two and three while chaining takedowns until the finish stuck. He talks about staying composed versus locking in for high stakes, and about avoiding 24/7 fight thoughts outside the gym to prevent overthinking. His main lesson for next time is managing arm fatigue, keeping grips on the fence, and landing more damage from controlling positions. He thanks coaches Collie, Mark, and Rick, training partners Robert, Charlie, and Reese, and gives a plug for Original Animals for kit and a sponsored giveaway.

All right, everyone. Welcome back. >> Start over. Everyone, welcome. Welcome back. Uh, Gladier Fighting Championship. Um, I have here Mr. Colum Little fighting out of Seyogi. >> Sakyogi. >> Seyogi. I think it's the first time I've had to say it here. Here. Get close. Get close. Get right in there. Get right close. Okay. Um, first of all, congratulations. Uh, you got a win via rear naked choke. >> Yeah, rear naked choke in round three. >> What was that like? >> [ __ ] limbs. Like limbs. Yeah, my arms were gas. It was literally like if I didn't get it, it was [ __ ] lights out like there was a if I remember correctly, there was a a couple submission attempts uh from the from the Perry. Is that correct? >> Yeah. a couple miss chokes where he was kind of I was getting it and he was turning out of it but I got there in the end like kind of throw throwing a few shots to get him moving like >> right on. Um so just like speaking of like so RNC's like is that something is that kind of like something you enjoy doing? Is that your like do you practice doing that? >> Yeah, I'm I'm a bit I'm a big fan of jiu-jitsu like okay you know people call me a bit of a jiu-jitsu guy. >> Yeah, >> you know >> nothing wrong with that. No, you know, a bit of a jiu-jitsu guy, you know, like I'm I hit like a load of really good jokes this camp, you know, so >> like get getting that's kind of sweet. Like, you know, I'm kind of comfortable when I'm on the back. Like that's kind of cool to see. >> Do you compete a lot in uh jet? >> Yeah, I suppose I compete more in jiu-jitsu more than I would in MMA. You know, I do I do pretty much most empires when they come around. >> Oh, cool. But >> do you find uh like the transition between jiu-jitsu and MMA like it is it a bit difficult for you or >> it's vastly different like serious you can get punched in the face half the goes out the [ __ ] window like >> and then especially cuz you got those big gloves you know you can't snake your uh your hands in or something like that. Yeah, I was finding it kind of tough. He kept kind of pulling my hand down when I was trying to slide it through, but >> yeah, >> you you get there in the end. Like, you know, throw a few shots, distract them. >> Yeah. No. Yeah, you got you got to be clever with the shots, too. Like, if you're if you're a ground guy or you're a jets guy, um clever with the shots to make up for those big gloves getting in the way. Um so, coming into this fight, you know, like what what were you thinking? Did you have a game plan coming into this? Yeah, game plan was going to test the striking, see if I could get any reads, and then take him down, sub him like, >> okay. >> Um, >> and I mean, I tested the striking and [ __ ] got punched and went, "Fuck this." But no, first round was grappling heavy and then I kind of felt a bit more comfortable second and third round on the feet and then was working those taked downs. Got him down. I think I got him down a few times second and third round to be fair. >> Yeah. until I actually got it like solidified and then once we're down there lights out like you know >> right on um like what what uh what's what's it like what's going on in your head you know when uh like when when that case door shuts and you know the the two of you in there like tell me like what are you thinking in your head like how you feeling? It's a it's a mix of it's it's a mix of a few things. You know, you're there and you're trying you want to keep your head you want I was trying to keep composed as well and not get caught in the moment. You know, >> trying to keep composed and go, you know, this is what I do week in week out. Nothing different. At the same time, it's like safety first, you know, [ __ ] lock in, you know, like there it's high stakes. Like it was kind of a mix of yeah, you got to stay calm, but you got to be switched on like, you know. >> Oh, for sure. So that was kind of what I had going in like this is my cage sort of vibe instead of going instead of you know walking around. So that was kind of the vibe I was going for. >> Okay. Do you do you find it difficult to stay calm like even in the leadup to this or do you are you pretty relaxed normally or how how does that work for you? >> You know what when I'm trading and stuff I'm working and I'm trying to think about it you know when I'm trading but you see when I'm out of when I'm out of when I'm out of trading and I'm not trying to think about it. I'm just like I'm not trying to think of a plan or anything. I I keep my head off it you know. I don't want to I don't want to be sitting thinking about the fight 24/7 cuz you don't want to start overthinking it, you know? That was kind of what I was getting at. Like you start overthinking it. You start getting a bit like self-doubty and stuff. You go, "Oh, [ __ ] What am I doing?" You know, but nah, it's all right. Like um like do you have like a like a what's a big takeaway? What's one takeaway you're you're taking from this into your next fight? Um suppose like I think the main problem this fight I got um my arms kind of gassed out a bit. So kind of just knowing when to take a break knowing that if I have them on the fence I can I can keep my grip and I think I need to land more shots when I'm in control. I think there was one takeaway from this fight. I was getting I was getting good controlling positions but it wasn't landing much damage >> is kind of what was going down. So go back to the lab, like back to training and just kind of work. That is kind of probably what we'll take away from this one. >> Okay. Right on. Uh look, man, I appreciate your time. Thank you very much. >> Thank you for having me. >> Um you want to shout anyone out or you have anything you want to say? >> Yeah, big big shout out big shout out to all the coaches, Collie and Mark and Rick. And shout out to the guys down training, you know, Robert, Charlie beating me up week in week out. Like [ __ ] cheers, guys. Shout out Reese as well. Right on. Um, yeah. >> Right on. Um, awesome. Here. And also, I got a shout out to I've been uh keep getting to do this. Uh, everyone check out Original Animals. Um, they were kind enough to get me some uh a t-shirt here and then they sponsored u a giveaway that I had. So, uh, shout out Original Animals. Uh, they got a lot of dope [ __ ] on there. Um, so yeah, that's it. All right, man. Look, appreciate it. Until next time. Okay, >> until next time. See you. Oh, hey.
