Fansview MMA host Dave catches up with Irish pro Armand Herczeg from Manchester, where Armand says he moved in February 2024 to train daily at Top Team under coach Priny. He credits that camp—with sparring partners Louis Lightning and McGillen, UFC-level teammates like Lee Murphy, and support from Dennis, Kelly, and Shem—for sharp progression that showed in his September FCC bout on Fight Pass: his first pro fight at bantamweight, an early knockout of an opponent who had never been stopped before. Armand describes letting Priny control matchmaking, turning down a stalled FCC rematch offer after blowing up to about 77 kilos post-fight, and booking a confirmed but unreleased opponent for Progress Check Fighting Championship on 21 December 2024 in Manchester at roughly 140 pounds. He plans to fight often in 2025, would like a homecoming bout in Ireland if offered, and argues his 1-2 record undersells his skill and name value. He also reflects on leaving Ireland’s distractions, living alone away from family, regained confidence, and an old last-minute kickboxing outing with David K where he and his dad helped build the cage from 6 a.m.

[Music] I'm here with Mr arm herig for the first time in a long time um it's been a while since we have a chat one of the favorite people I have to come back on the show I have a good relationship with him as I do with most Fighters but me and arm I've done MMA in Deb before and uh we've had a lot of conversations behind the scenes as well so I want to thank you so much for your time how are you doing it's been a while since we chatted we need to we need to make them more regular than this yeah definitely we can make them more regular and and I'm doing well you know um obviously living life over here in Manchester enjoying every minute of it and just just progressing and and looking to show as much progression as I can to to the fans out there that don't get to see the work behind the scenes yeah because because like that a lot of lot of uh people I want to say civilians will we'll call us civilians for for for now like I know what you go to because I would talk to you and I talk you know I talk to all the fighters but they don't get to see what you go to on a daily basis on a on like on daily basis this has been years and years of your life um and I think it's a shame people don't understand what you have to go to but your last performance like that i' I've seen you fight throughout the years your last performance and this isn't a slight on you or or anything but we I I could see levels of progression and that's obviously what do you put that down to yourself did you notice that at the time or was it you got to the fight and you realized just how much better you'd become over time I'll be honest I knew I got well better I knew I got well better obviously training at top team having priny as my coach and I'm working with the likes of Ls mcgillin um Lou lightning obviously Lou was my my main spying partner as well as mcgillin for for that camp and it was a dark dark camp that molded me into this man that went out and done what I did on the fight day but for me just working around some of these top level athletes obviously we have Lal Murphy leading the way in the UFC and everything and just seeing seeing all this work R getting put in uh it just helps me push further The Lads don't let me slack and and they just keep it going and the way I leveled up is just proof of what we're doing at top team is is brilliant because you know I moved over in February I had to fight in September that's like about six months of training with with top team every day as much much as I I I've been training with them so with that level of progression in that short period of time it just shows the level the gym is at and and I'm just happy to be a part of it and and to be a good member that helps the lads and the lads help me yeah and that's Co cuz I remember last time we actually spoke kind of not too long after you moved over you said you were going to leave it to princey because obviously you're a fighter you want to fight whenever you can and obviously you said you were going to let him decide is that what you done just let him see your improvements and say you're ready or was it was there issues getting matched or or how did that come about how did it wait so long did you just want that Improvement to go back in after the two previous fights was it um I was to be fair like I'm a fighter so I'll get into the cage tomorrow if I have to like do you know what I mean but um I I got an offer for FCC and it was withas AO princey thought it was a good fight for me I thought it was a pretty good fight for me too as well I just I felt like I was already levels above him even before I went to top team I knew I could beat him so coming to top team I knew I was well levels above him and I could I could really win the fight pretty well and and in a nice style like I did but I just let princey decide I just send if if I get a name sent to me from somewhere or an opportunity I'll say it to princey and if princey says yes I send it on to princey and and princey deals with it princey comes to me with offers he whatever he likes sometimes he'll just accept a fight that he knows that I'm I'm able to have a good result with or it's a good fight for me and that's it whatever he says goes he's he's the man that's in charge of when I fight and where I fight and I have all full faith in him and it sounds like there's a good relationship and a bond formed already in that short space of time what does he mean to you as a coach and as kind of a mentor with you being kind of in the UK and obviously you're not by yourself you've got your teammates you've got Dennis obviously who you know really well but like to go to another country can be quite daunting no matter what age you are and what what you're doing in life whether it's work or fighting or whatever um like what does princey mean you what's he brought to brought to you as a person and as a fighter what's he brought out of you um I think like Prince's very helped me like grow as a person he's he's been very very nice to let me in come into his team coming over from Ireland and and get to where I am and he to me he's like um as you said he's a mentor he's someone that like guides me to do better every day but he's also just a really good friend and and a good figure to to look up to he he's a great mindset as a coach and he just helps me every day as much as he can it's not just as a coach that he helps me just outside the the gym if I have stuff going on he helped me move over here and everything so I just just have a proper great relationship with him and he's someone that like I'll always have faith in and uh you know what I mean it's that the biggest thing is like if you don't have fate in who you're around then you can't really progress and and thankfully what princy like he's shown me that if if I listen to him he lead me the right way and I just built a good bond with him and and I think he's a good bond with all the fighters and all the fighters have a good bond with each other we're like as as gay as it sounds we are like a family you know and and you get that with a lot of gyms and everything obviously but I think with the lad's being all around my age or a little bit older than that and we're all professionals and that it kind of just changed the vibe compared to obviously previously where I trained where I was kind of the only one that was going pro at the time and I feel like everyone here eats sleeps and lives training do you know what I mean whereas like when you're younger you're at 18 19 years of age and like you're in a small town in Ireland and and you want to enjoy drinking partying and all it's hard to really stay committed to the goal especially when you're leading the way when you don't have someone like Lon who's in the UFC and that you what I mean so I I think with that having these type of people around me has really got me into that Bond of like of a good friendship and family bases and they've helped me progress on with it and and same with princey he knows what what I need to do to get to where I want to get to so we just sit down and have a conversation about it and then that's really it it just helped me like have a good bond with him yeah and you spoke obviously about being an irelander and then moving over and I think we spoke about as pevy but we we we'll talk about again for people who may not have seen it do you think like leaving and like I was speaking to just for when on sending K's gone to Dubai and says over there he's no distractions he's no things from home obviously he misses his family and stuff like that but he feels his health and progress as a person and as a fighter do you feel the same because you're over there does there's no falling into Old Habits Like you said going out drinking having the crack being with the boys whatever you you're there for the reason and the reason is to become a better fight and a better atlete do you think moving over there was is what has caused that because you don't have the distractions yeah definitely I think like the best thing is that my friends are all friends that train with me so even if we do go on a night out like we know we know we're training or if we're in Camp we're not going out if someone's slacking we're giving them abuse to not slack if someone's heavier than they should be they're a fat C you know what I mean so um it's one of them ones where there's no distractions there's no there's no outside there's no one outside like like McGregor said the best you don't bring Outsiders into your circle it's people that live the life and and it's true because when you're living that life with other people around you you just want to keep getting better and better like obviously mcran fought Dean Garnett and and had that amazing fight and after that I was like I want to fight again because I want to have unreal performance or even when Louis lightning had his performance in Aries I was like I can't wait to fight because I can see the performances The Lads are putting on and it just motivates everyone and and it gets a good role running so I think no distractions and being around the right people with the same mindset as you is what you need so that that's what it is for me and as well like living on my own obviously like it can be a struggle as well because obviously you're away from family and that but it's one of them ones where like without the struggle it's either swim or sink or it's yeah swim or sink that's the same so I'm either drowning or I'm going to continue on doing what I'm doing and that's the position I want to be because as a fighter you need your struggle without your struggle you don't have your your why do you know what I mean so I just want to I just want to be as successful as I can be in the game and and I'm around successful athletes and people that are getting successful and getting the opportunity so it's addictive yeah no I like what you said about the why right when I used to work as a manag in the place I used to tell everyone used to go why did you do this and I'd say you have to let people know the why because if you don't know why they're doing it they're not going to do it properly and obviously you brought up the why thing there you need your why because if you don't have why am I doing this it's not going to motivate you like you said at home you'd have your home conference to fall back into whereas now you have to do it by yourself and and that's just a be all and end all and I can see even talking to you uh off camera and behind in I can see your maturity and improvements as as a person in general and as a fighter your last performers talk us through that I I believe the guy was never knocked out before and you were the first person to ever knock him out how did it feel to get the Victory and in such a fashion like that it was unbelievable you know I talked about this knockout so much that I'm actually not allowed to speak about in the gym anymore like too much for but no do you know it's m yeah because even after the fight I didn't realize I knew like in the fight you know how good you're doing and you're in your Flow State or whatever I didn't realize how much better I've gotten until after the fight like to get the Finish like that I thought I'd be in for a lot tougher of a fight now obviously I said what I said on the mic you know like oh A's de he's only decent he's I'm G to finish him whatever I did believe I could finish him but I did think it'd be a lot top fight like he barely touched me I think he landed one significant strike on me which was a left a left hook n the other room not a toilet in here sorry um what was I saying yeah so he landed a nice left hook I think that was pretty much the cleanest shot he landed on me um in the clinch he felt like these bants I don't feel strong to be honest like when they kept grabbing me I was like like the boys in the gym they feel fairly strong but because we're big bandam with but he didn't feel that strong he didn't even weigh in like but it was just one of them ones where it after the fight I realized how much better I've gotten and I've come to the right place he just just felt like I was levels and levels above him I came out and he was just standing in front of me not really moving faint and not doing anything and and then I was like this is nothing like Spar on with Lou or Lewis who's constantly moving and giving you different shapes and everything so I was just like right I'm gonna have a field day here landed my first tap on him and I landed it hard kind of pushed him back a little bit DG dug it nicely into him Landing the spinning back kick once I landed that spinning back kick I knew it was going to be game over for at any time cuz that's when I to me flow St that's when I was like right I'm I'm I'm here to to like perform well but everything went well even the weight cut and all like um I was grateful to have um obviously Shem come down help me with the weight cut and all so like shout out to him as well he was in the corner and everything and just as I said the people around me like the names I'm mentioning they're all super athletes and high level professionals and with that obviously the only thing that can happen is me getting back and and that's really what I showed at the end yeah and like that I like the fact I seen Sham in your corner and there's still that kind of contingent of from the Octagon as well with yourself and Dennis and and the bond that he had but like it was a fantastic R I was gonna ask you was that your first that was obviously your first time Bantam way professional yeah that's my first time ever at Bantam way I never think sorry and and the cut was good because obviously the cut before you said it wasn't too bad for you because you weren't far off that weight like did you like you said you obviously felt much stronger than him like did you feel at home in that weight division is that's where you're continue yeah um honestly that Banton weight cut was easier than my weight cut against Jake in in January okay I caught less weight obviously I missed weight at first against Jake and then shaved me head which I still regret because I used to have proper long hair man I miss it I miss it but I can't going through the effort of growing it back out because there's a point between short hair and long hair where it those looks hideous it's just like spiky or something yeah I have like a Asian hair basically just straight man I think um I have some Mongolian ancestors or something so but yeah like the work up was fairly easy I work with a great nutritionist who trains in the gym as well and living with Kelly she she helped me big time I went into fight week pretty light um and and then I started my water cup pretty light as well so I only had to in the end about three and a half kilos I only did about three four bats so it was very easy work and that that's all thanks to obviously like putting the work in but as well as my nutritionist and everything else and the team around me because I just wasn't allowed to slack whereas back home like I i' get back home to my actual G my mom would make cooking and all like e we little s s CH chocolate cake or something do I mean but here like obvious I live with Dennis so if he see me EA and I'd be getting G her to get back to the gym so it's just one of them things where like I can't I can't mess up and partly as well going naturally down to Bantam weight I can I can make that weight no problem and that's where my home is and I think I'm I'm a massive massive Phantom with and and I showed that because mathas was was a pretty decent lad at amateur and and he's going to be a decent Pro as well but there's just levels to it and that's what I showed yeah because even for feder weight you were you were you're tall enough for a Fed weight so I can imagine when you're coming up against Bantam weights I'm envisioned a couple of Bantam weights in Ireland in the AM scene at the minute as we speak I think you would just Tower of I'm not going to say their names but you would Tower over them so like what's what's next for you obviously you you fought on F FCC what a fantastic show that is you were showcased on Fight Pass is there going to be more fights in there do you have a plan for next year are you just G to kind of take what princey says and take his lead or is there anything in the works at the minute yeah so I had an offer from FCC but the guy didn't come back with an answer of yes or no he just blanked them because he's little and if you watch this you'll know who you are but he didn't reply for ages and then we just basically said right we'll leave it because I was a fat mess after that fight and got up to about 77 kilos and was just eating whatever I wanted however I wanted so yeah I ended up being a fat mess and I got too close to that fight to like do a good cut and we decided that I'm fighting now on um December 21st Carl's putting on a show called um progress check Fighting Championship and that's that's it on here in Manchester so I'm fighting on that an opponent confirmed and all I'm going to obviously wait for them to release it in that but the next time I'm out is in a few weeks time um that's going to be at 140 pounds for closeing enough the Banton way a bit in between you know so it's still nice and then um we'll see what after that is in the New Year I'm I'm trying to get out as much as I can I've seen um clamor had a story up that someone wants to see me fight in Ireland I wouldn't mind returning to Ireland having a little coming home fight it'd be sweet um I don't even know like what Irish bantom WS there is really but we'll have to see maybe they fly someone from a different country for me to fight them we' love to see what happens if they even offer me a fight but forget the opportunities and the opportunities are there that's Grand I just want to fight as much as I can next year I have my own little goals set in me head and and my own vision for the next year and how I want to finish it so that that's all I'm trying to work towards I'm trying to get as much fights as I can get get my wins and highlights working up and and build up there yeah and like that like you said with Clan Wars I'd like to see your fight back here obviously ultimately it's up to you whether whether you come back and not and and Clan Wars is a show you've been on a lot and you've seen obviously they got sponsored by Forge the the production value and stuff for them has really kind of gone through the roof and and the scene over here is popping obviously I know you're over there and you're concentrating your team I would like to see you back here but obviously that's up to you if I got to see you hopefully I'll get to see you in the UK sometime maybe at fight because I'd love to meet you again in person and see your fight live again because I've seen you I've seen you come in on the day do you remember that boxing fight kickboxing with uh the guy from Watford I want to say is David K David K yeah K didn't even have your own gum shield and and there you go you put up the cage I believe yeah yeah I I was there from six o'clock in the morning me and dad put up the cage and then there was just a pull out or something someone didn't have bloods or something and I was just like it I'll get a cracken I'm not asked yeah and like that that's that's just a fighter true and true uh it was H it's fantastic to talk to is there anything you want to say before you want to go before you go I want to thank you so much for your time we need to do this more yeah longer than because it's been about six months I'd say we'll have to do one maybe every two three months and then have patch up all the time well look if you can make it to pcfc bro come over to watch the fights you you'll enjoy them there's a lot of good amateurs on it and good Pros as well it' be a good good little show for the UK for you to see if if you want to do that but I'm telling you now all these baton WIS have been unchecked they've all seen me fight now and and they all noticed that I'm not the same guy as I was at amateur I'm not the same guy as I was at my first two po fights and there's a lot of people that are not going to be want to be fighting me because I'm not a One and Two fighter like my record says I I showed that I'm far more experienced than that and I'm showing a high high level and it's only going to get bigger and bigger because the the thing is it wasn't really clicking at first when I when I joined top team and even that fight stuff kind of clicked but now I'm really really like starting to understand what we're learning over here and what we're doing over here and my next performance is going to be even better and quicker and actually one before you go because you actually just brought something up that interests me because you're one in Two fighter and because obviously your last performance do you think that's going to stop people from wanting to fight you if they're two and 0 three and 0 because they don't want to lose to a losing record when they know you're so dangerous because I know what let's say jenerson Castro has 50 record but he's so dangerous he could spark anyone out a second you think that's going to stop people from wanting to fight you because because of the record but you're so dangerous I think so yeah but the the difference between myself and someone like like genderson is that like I I have a name as well do you know i' I've been on Big Shows I I've obviously done that show and and there's still something that attracts them to fight me do you know what I mean it's not like I'm just someone who's dangerous and don't really give you anything else off of it like if you were to beat me it's a good name to have on your record even if I am one and two people know how good I am now nobody will be beating me for a long long time if ever again but I'm telling you now that one and two record is more like a seven and2 fighter and people see that now and they know it and and that's the type of confidence I have and and it's always been just just now I have my confidence back you know even the confidence that I had uh I feel like I'm confident like I was when I even my kickboxing days or or like towards the end of my amateur career and then obviously took that long break and that and my last my first two P fights my confidence wasn't really there but now it is and it's proven that it's showing that like like the way I dealt with it a was just shows the level of confidence I had and now I'm even more confident so it's it's a dangerous game for anyone that signs the contract now thankfully some poor little man did did sign it so I'll have to finish him off and then we'll see what happens after that yeah know I can't wait to see if I hopefully it depends I I packed November and December here especially coming so close to Christmas I don't know but I definitely buy the pay-per-view um it's been a pleasure to talk to you thank you so much and uh best luck we would you know what we'll have another little catch up before the fight to talk about the fight once it's released if you that's if uh all with you yeah Dave you know I'm always available for you bro Perfect You're an absolute Legend you know that yourself and Dennis are just the give me the kindest nicest words all the time you're a legend bro everyone knows her perfect thank you so much
