Fansview MMA speaks with amateur fighter Cesear Corriea during fight week ahead of his third bout. Corriea says he walks around 70–73 kg and does not cut much weight at amateur level, and that he is slightly under his usual weight this week because he is tapering and not training hard. He describes starting at the OM gym in his mid-thirties, getting beaten by much younger training partners, and sticking with it until he felt he could compete. He lost his amateur debut at Virtus because he was too loose and not nervous enough, then won his second fight away against Thomas McVey despite a rough first round in which he says he fractured something but fought through to get his hand raised. He trains at OM MMA under Jerry and Bruce alongside fighters including Damian, Dean, and Morgan, expects Damian in his corner on Saturday the 13th, and is glad to be on the HD Dei show card. He says he is also booked for BMF in Scotland for four, wants to stay active if healthy, watched his upcoming opponent finish a recent foe in the first round but focuses on his own game, and hopes to find the right level of nerves this time.

[Music] okay so I'm here with Caesar karea he's going to be fighting this weekend he's had two amateur fights already so we're just going to talk to him a little bit about his previous two fights and his fight coming up first of all I want to thank you so much for your time because I know it's fight week There's way to be caught you have a lot going on how are you I'm good U the W on schedule I'm on schedule the W um now is just baiting my time waiting for the same right T I said and and what I'm not too bad yeah so if you're on schedule that's good then like do you have is the CT a Big C no I don't C much with I'm a lot lighter than a look if you know what I mean I right that c we I walk around 702 73 so I don't cut much I just have to cut out few things that can't have if I'm cutting weight and stuff but I don't do much of a cut that's good and I think that's the right way to go about it especially at amateur I don't see the benefit in like cutting huge amounts of weight depleting yourself especially there's no money in it and plus I think it's the early amateur fights are to learn your kind of craft as well rather than worrying about a wake up 100% right now I'm actually a bit under than I'm supposed I'm supposed to be but I'm not training you see I'm used to that while training I'm not training so this week I'm not SP so I'm E A Way bit less than I'm supposed to because I don't need all that food but um I'm actually under what I'm supposed to be like I don't see the much F cut lot of weight it is if nobody caught weight would be even better we just walk in there or walking r with but that's how it works like and the weight the weight does make a big difference though yeah it does you can see that and like that's that's why I think like for like for 170 and 155 I think that's a massive Gap you've got a lot Fighters that are small 170s and they can't make 155 and like you said a lot of people do cut we especially in Pro because there's so much on the line like especially with win bonuses in the UFC which is I don't think should be a thing two guys are going in to win like split that money between them and let them both have the money but that's that's that's H me G off track but obviously what brought you to MMA in the first place to be honest with the first time the OM I always wanted to do it but I never bought but first time I went there I got the head beat off me but p young way so I say that that's not going to happen for much longer so I just talk at it and kept going kept going see you don't realize everybody get and gets in the fights and straight and stuff but you don't realize you know there's a big difference when you can't fight that that you know they BW out in the public you know and I just found over I didn't like it beat up but I wasn't given up like no that's good and like you said people go out in the streets and people have huge Egos and especially when people have mixed uh alcohol and aggression together a lot of people have egos and they think they can go beat anyone but I went into a session last year um and I got bet around the place by a bunch of 18 19 20 21 year olds and I won't keep going I'm 37 so I won't ever go back well might I might go back but it's just obviously you don't realize because you you probably thought I'm gonna go in and do this this and this and it'll be fine and you probably would get up at the start I was always a big strong for was a very strong guy but it's like f is not very strength like it does help strength ites help but it's not all strength when I was going in there I was getting beat up by proba 16 year olds and 18 19 year olds 20 goes that's not happening it's Hess yeah well I kept I kept going back and I kept going back and that's I'm here now yeah no and that's good when when when you first went in and that happened and then you said okay you wanted to turn it around did you ever think you'd compete like and at what stage did that kind of arise in your mind I do have a little believe myself you know once I start seeing Improvement not at the first day but once I start seeing Improv movement stuff I thought must have I can definitely compete here some stage and uh I just kept showing up kept showing up and kept seeing kept seeing Improvement in this past years last year has been a big Mass I feel like there's been a big big Mass improve and the came away to go there and short yeah and then and what was it like walking into like your first amateur event cuz you first you debuted at virus wasn't it and then you went on and fought on your but at what is your what was the what was your emotions like going into it I was nervous going the ver because I already had nous fight so I was going to I was going to plus you were fighting the no more so I wasn't really nervous and I think that was the problem I wasn't nervous at all I was too loose I was too comfortable but um I learned my lesson like you know you need you do need to be a bit nervous need to be on the edge like yeah definely definitely do but here I talk if I had lost inverters I wouldn't be I wouldn't be I wouldn't be where I am today you know when it comes to Improvement and stuff like because I just put in work harder work harder and harder and feelove the lot from verus yeah and and that happens obviously with amateur Fighters if I looked at your first fight to your second fight and you could be a completely different fighter now than even your second fight as well and like you said yeah the I think you do need a little bit of the Butterflies or something in your stomach all out I think definitely definitely do yeah um and did you have them then in in your second fight and what was the emotions fighting away yes then getting your handr I was I was um did the second F did hard all I was maybe we were too nervous and they didn't have a good start the fight fracture M and first first round um but I kept going I didn't really feel the pain at at the start but as the fight went on they kept felt the pain way stronger but we got the H ra I just Fu my way through it and that's that's what it matter getting the H ra at the end and how did it feel because obviously you winning against Thomas McVey wasn't it it was Thomas mcy yeah Thomas Thomas MC is Good's he's he's like Thomas mcf is a strong lad going forward like I knew was was a hard fight but that's what kept me in the headge thege as well and I had a b believe myself and U that's that's the level want to be competing that yeah no because because he's like he's only after Bing JRE SE and like youself he would have had a lot of uh novice fights which uh I think are really really good in the country that you're able to get them but you got your hand raised you like I you learn from the first so you were not nervous to too nervous hopefully you you'll be the right amount the nerves this time hopefully I'll find a happy Mee be find a happy Mee him this time and there in the air on the edge but not too much so I can perform and just do what do sp I would take it as a spar session going in there to SP as a an ultra competitive Spar but with the show you're on as well H Dei show is the first ever show that they have how does it feel to be a part of it the very first one I'm glad to be a part of it I didn't actually you know what there had been one before not um I'm glad I'm glad we can't wait to see what the what the shows like what the events like um I look forward to it yeah it's it looks like it's going to be good show there's a lot of Fighters on I've one or two more to interview as well but I gonna talk to you about your gym om man obviously you've got Jerry at the H of you've got Bruce and then you've got fighters like Damian uh Dean who just won a title what's it like training with these guys on a day-to-day basis and what's the atmosphere in the gym like the atmosphere is great in the gym like you know we're lucky to have guys like Daman and Dean and gum U Morgan clam as well um I'm very lucky to have Bruce and Jerry doing a brilliant work like it's good like we're very competitive all among ourselves and they we're always trying to help each other we've got there's a reason why I'm still like I would not I could I could picture myself going a different gym like I'm an guy and I'm St guy I think we're all pretty much the same you know we're not we're not a big group we're not a big gym but but we're the ones that are there the few ones are there were good ones left so yeah hopefully I think Daman will be my corner on Saturday so hope to to go in there and yeah yeah no Damian be a good Corner man to have obviously you're going to have Jerry but like you said is what I like now about the scene is you probably noticed it's popping off there's gyms everywhere like these like like I said you don't have a massive amount of Fighters but it's the talent that is coming out of the gym which is more important you see like Damian and and K's obviously making his his professional debut H at Fus coming up so how's how's the buzz around him making his debut I say you're all delighted for him you're all going to be getting them ready it's good SC to see him back in the gym you know SC to have them back in the gym as well and SC to get get more bodies in the gym and and uh it's I think ver that competition that we train extra hard for because it's AA if you know what I mean it's our own competition I think we go a b too hard but then nobody wants to lose a around and SP or nothing but that's it that's good that's what's going to take you to the next level but obviously I'm not you're not looking past your opponent obviously mark that's going to be uh absolutely not but are you planning on staying active this year with the amount of shows that we have yeah I'm bed in for BMF in Scotland for a four as well but I'll focus on this one now first and the 13th and then hopefully no injuries and go again three weeks time I like that take it one fight at a time because the minute you P someone is the minute you make a mistake I believe would you do much resarch yourself or do you leave that to your coaches or do you just want to go in and kind of establish your own kind of fight stamp or game I'm going to in there I'm worried I'm not worried about him I'm going in there to do what I do and Spa you know um of course I have watch his last fight wasn't not long he finished B in the first round um but I'm not really worried about what he's going to do I'm worried about me I'm worri about myself and focus on myself and that's that's pretty much it yeah I think that's the best thing to do I think people can get too caught up in I'm ain't going to try and stop and do this this and this you're only young fight or you're only two fights in concentrate on yourself and then from there on just just just establish your your game plan but look yeah it's it's going to be a fantastic night I'm Gonna Let You Go I want to wish you the best of luck this weekend is there anything you want to say before you go or anyone you want to shout out um um come sorry I get your tickets um we're going to put a cracker on that night and have a good fight F the best man wins perfect I want to thank you so much for your time because like I said I know it's fight week I caught you just a kind um I've just gotes St to here my dinner and then get a get a rubbed here and that's that's me for the day and then that's it relax and then just see out the rest fight week I'd say what's it like I'd say you're itching to go now at this stage are you I'm to call it the gym you know at this day I'm going in theor just for do some light stuff you know really light stuff there but I like the atmosphere we in the gym and seeing your bodies and stuff but unfortunately you can't because if I go in I will be doing up the working out and stuff and it's just not going to B it in any way so now about getting the body right and pretty much it yeah no because I say like that you're training and train for so long and then it's like this disconnect for a week whereas you're focusing on other stuff but I want to wish you the best of look this weekend uh I can't wait to see how the fight turns out and I will talk to you either before or just after the fight thank you very much I'll see you perfect
