Combat Confidential catches Jason McCourtney backstage at Cage Legacy Fighting Championship 23 at The Warehouse in Dublin immediately after his win. The host states he stopped his opponent by knockout in under 52 seconds and that this is his second knockout finish inside one minute. McCourtney says he felt good getting another first-round finish after coming in hungry on the back of two losses. He felt he was the better martial artist and that he could hurt his man if he pressed the action. He was representing Eire Grapple from Offaly, and says his corner’s plan was to keep things simple and stick to fundamentals, which he did. There is a knockout-of-the-night bonus on the card; he hopes he might win it but thinks his finish will be hard to beat, depending on how the rest of the fights go. Asked about his long-term aim in mixed martial arts, he says the goal is to turn professional. He closes with thanks to his team and a shout-out to Kieran and the wider squad.
