Fansview MMA interviews Danny Kennedy, a brown belt under Jeremy Fields and coach at 10th Planet Dublin. Kennedy describes starting in Ninjutsu until about 2003–2004, then trying jiu-jitsu at Team Balance under Ray Butcher after a friend persuaded him post-CrossFit, and staying motivated through long plateaus. He co-founded 10th Planet Dublin with Jeremy Fields after informal no-gi training in a CrossFit gym back room and a Jeremy Fields seminar; the gym has been open about six to seven years and sits in North Strand, Dublin 3. He discusses Ireland’s growing no-gi scene since he began around 2013, the pre-COVID competition boom, retention (~10 in 100 reach blue belt), coaching newer students gently, and evolution of the leg-lock and wrestling-up meta influenced by EBI and MMA. He promotes a week-long camp Monday 18 July through Friday 22 July 2023 with two daytime sessions plus evening classes, guests from the US and Scotland including Jeremy Fields, Scott Epstein, Kyle Chambers, Stevie Ray, and Jean-Jacques Machado, with signup via 10thplanetdublin.com. He plans yearly camps after a successful 2019 edition paused by COVID, and welcomes all levels to Saturday 10:00 no-gi open mat.

Kind: captions Language: en [Music] hey so I'm here with Danny candy he's a he's a brown bed under Jeremy Fields he's a 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu obviously we all know Eddie Bravo uh El Patron is that what they call him Patron yeah El Patron obviously who started and there's like a list of names I want to say this 58 or 68 black bears under them and they've black belts under them so you are fortunate enough to be one of the brown bats for one of the black belts so how are you thank you very much for joining me and talk to us about your your journey into Jiu Jitsu how did you find that yeah well I started years ago in like traditional Japanese martial arts so I have been doing um it was called Ninjutsu you know so they they told us we were ninjas and a friend of mine I got into CrossFit so it was still an adult until about kind of 2003 2004 and then I left it kind of left it behind for a few years friend of mine was into CrossFit and he persuaded me to go into a jiu jitsu club uh which was like team balance under Ray butcher you know and I was thinking to me say oh yeah sure I've done loads of martial arts before this is going to be handy and I went there and got my got my Irish handed to me uh and then yeah that was it just kind of fell in love from there yeah I need to learn this one of my yeah yeah one of my friends father's done that I don't know Danny Rooney uh I don't know him now but it's it's a long time ago Steve yeah I remember years ago hit all the swords and all this and then you see them obviously the movements and stuff then you're going to do yeah and like you said when you first went in and you got your ass landed yet like I always ask this question because I find I don't want class and I was like oh [ __ ] this well I just called I just I couldn't get grass so but obviously that's my first class what keeps people what kept you to keep going and going because like it's not and it's not even over a month or two that you're going to improve that much or before you start even get your own Subs it's quite a long time so what quite a long time yeah like what kept you motivated to keep doing it getting getting your ass handed you in a sense for for a length of time what was your motivation well like the motivation you know it's not magic you know what I mean so it's like this is this is a scale like any other skill and you know that okay all these guys are down here is just putting in time and effort you know what I mean so you're like these guys I I can't do anything you know what I mean but they're not you know he's not Gandalf you know all he's doing is just practice you know and you're thinking to yourself like well I can do that too if we're just going to stick around and practice you know what I mean that's really really the thing you're like looking ahead here at the people the people who might be like six months only six months on the road ahead and are absolutely smashing it you know what I mean and you're like well I just have to put six months in and then I'm gonna be like at that level then you get your six months in and the guys who are six months ahead here are are still smashing you well now you're smashing the new guys you know so this new guy is starting you're six months in you're trouncing the new guys and you're like okay well I'll just another six months and maybe I'll catch up with the boys that's kind of pretty much how it goes no matter how long you train there's always always someone who's who's still smashing you so you always have a kind of a Target if that makes sense yeah because like that if you're if they're still going you're still going you're still improving like when you see someone new coming in the door when you've seen someone new coming in the door when you're in that phase of you're getting the smash you're getting smashed but you you're coming along you can see it progressing but you're still getting smashed when you see someone new coming in Dodge you go oh here's someone I can beat here or no no Jesus like it's it's at the stage like once you've been training for a while like the fresh the fresh new guys you know you're if you're doing anything you're handling them with kid gloves you know what I mean because it's it's no phone for them to just get like completely destroyed for a round you know what they feel uh as being destroyed is you just kind of working at a kind of a slow gentle teaching pace for them you know what I mean you're trying to feed Little opportunities uh you're trying to allow them to kind of work some stuff uh and it gives you a chance to practice the stuff that you were kind of not that great at yet you know what I mean so you'll always have a bunch of stuff that needs work so the new guys or the guys who are less experienced is a great place for you to kind of practice that stuff you know and then that gives them an opportunity because you're not particularly good at that that part of your game yet that gives them an opportunity then to like get into top position or to start working uh you know what I mean they have a chance to do something with you then as well you know so you got to kind of be careful because like if you're just completely destroyed them it's gonna put them off you know so there's there's kind of a balance where you want them to you want them to feel that this is kind of effective that this stuff works you know we also want them to be able to to kind of get up off the bottom and try to play play some of the stuff they're trying to learn um so some people have a different philosophy absolutely try and match people into the floor you know but I think it's kind of counterproductive uh at a certain skilled disparity you know yeah it is and I like your approach obviously because if you're working on stuff that you need to work on that might be harder obviously if you're like I said training with the Lesser six months ahead it's gonna be hard for you to get it up on them but like you said yeah for sure create openings for the new guys that like if I went to a class and you're just on the bottom the whole time you didn't get any kind of Rest by eating anything yeah yeah how like I wouldn't I don't want to say like uh turnover like how many people come in to Jason after like a month or two or like you know what just practice I would do it a lot because it is a dear skill it's a masterful skill yeah yeah I know you know I'd say probably out of every out of every 100 people that come in you probably get 10 who would stick it out to Blue belts and blue belt is like um they're about to be kind of one to three years generally uh will be kind of what you'd expect you know so generally like 10 one and one in ten would stick around to those blue belts no um and I think for a lot of people they just don't they're not uh they're not like in touch with the reality of of the martial arts you know so like say with uh with kickboxing or with Muay Thai you're not inside people's stink you know what I mean whereas with Jiu Jitsu like people are literally like on your face dripping sweat in your eyes you know what I mean and for for a certain bunch of people they're just like nah I'm just not enjoying this like which is which is fine you know it's not a sport for everybody um so a certain amount of people just hate that amount of close contact you know or they just you know they prefer to do something else you know and that's kind of fair enough so it's just the case but if you think about Hobbies most people when you take up a new puppy you're gonna practice for like two years and then you'll probably start to phase out probably out in favor of something else you know um so that's a kind of General the general lifespan but we have a bunch of guys here who've been training I think um the Gym's only been open kind of uh like six years so we have a bunch of purple belts um uh we're gonna sit in that around six six or seven purple belts we've been training kind of six years seven years in that kind of time range so basically as long as we've been open you know um so like it just certain people are into it certain people are not you know what I mean and that's that's gonna you're just trying to allow people to space to discover whether or not they they enjoy this or not yeah no like I said it's not for everyone it is very like it's like who was The Joe Rogan described it's like a game of Wellies like a game of chess an effective game and I like I said I I focus more on MMA but I can like I can point stuff out and go off like this and it's like it's a game Avengers really like I've seen for sure yeah look at Lee Hammond obviously uh at The Ultimate Fighter uh I believe I want to say black belt under John is he is he Blackberry Joe's got his black belt there a couple of weeks ago yeah yeah and he was smashing that fight and a simple mistake ah yeah how how devastating is is something like that to happen if you're in a competition ah yeah like it's it's enraging you know especially for Lee like he was he was kind of he he dominated the first round he was I thought he was kind of clearly winning the second round and then he just got caught you know and sometimes that just happens it's the same you see it in in uh MMA with striking as well you know you always have a puncher's chance sometimes you just get clipped and it's just like unfortunate you know um I suppose it kind of it in Jiu Jitsu competitions there's a lot less stress you know so with like a jiu jitsu competition you could go out and compete you know every second week or uh you know every month uh without having to put in a crazy training camp in the same way that you would for MMA you know so I would feel for the MMA guys that's that's like a much more devastating loss you know they might have done a 12 week Camp leading up to this one flight you don't want to get caught uh in in a fight that you feel you're kind of winning like that it's obviously you've got to be got to be like pretty painful you know what I mean but like um Jiu Jitsu this is Jiu-Jitsu competitions on basically every weekend you know so if you feel like you you just got caught in a comp you can always go back and just go again the next week you know what I mean it's it's not so stressful I don't think compared to MMA no it's like a lot of people I didn't realize I I was actually just talking to Andy Chapman you're probably familiar from yourself up from uh Rhino and it wasn't until I really spoke to him and I was up nor I was in serban I didn't realize how big the scene is actually here recently like it's getting bigger yeah yeah when you first died what was it like so tell us about the the evolution of the growl in Ireland like have you noticed it or have you been in and out of that time as well uh no I've been living in Ireland here for the whole time and so Radio Star I would have started Jiu Jitsu back in uh would have been kind of uh say 2013 so I'm yeah so 10 years this year um and yeah it's it's fun I've exploded I remember especially the Noki scene which is obviously what we're more into yeah from the the kind of 10 Planet Side of stuff like the nogi scene has has exploded now there's a lot more interest in that side of it um I remember like uh we were trying to find no geek competitions and at the time when I started training uh I think there was a competition maybe once every kind of every three months or so if even that much you know and there was a time there before the code especially uh there was basically a comp like every second weekend throughout the whole year and sometimes you'd have kind of three or four comps in a month just depending on on what was particularly going on you know so the scene is huge it's only getting bigger and I think like obviously the things that kind of contributed are like like Eddie Bravo got super popular The Joe Rogan Experience got super popular Conor McGregor got super popular you know and all that kind of pushed people a lot of people get into MMA and they try a few classes and realize they don't really like getting punched in the face that much but they still want to do some sort of realistic Combat Sports and a lot of those guys get funneled in onto their Jiu Jitsu scene you know um so yeah we saw we definitely saw a massive boost and the scene is still grown you know compared to the scene in the states we're probably kind of 10 years behind behind what's going on the states or even in in um UK you know uh so we're I don't think we're near saturation yet um and then there's obviously uh a lot of uh what would you call it like I think we're getting a lot of um yeah what would you call them not not a refugees from like traditional martial arts as well you know who are moving on to try to find something that's like a little more uh realistic or a little more kind of uh combat applicable not that that's a huge deal for most of us yeah no yeah 100 I like the IC next and I see because I follow I do follow a lot of cheats guys um and a lot of MMA fighters it seems like every weekend every second weekend as you saw you've got crackles Kings grapplings she's Eve a DCC over here uh chaos obviously do their Grafton show beforehand there's so many invitations how good is that for you and your students to like that be able to have those opportunities and how good is it for the sport to to improve in this country oh yeah it's fantastic uh like anything you can do to put eyes on the sport you know is good for the sport as a whole uh you know but obviously maybe not anything but like any shows that you can put on you know that catalyze on the sport is only a good thing and you know you notice really say like yeah I don't know if you saw that flight pass Invitational that was on recently enough um it's like a grappling show that the UFC are putting on in the Apex um with some of the kind of higher level guys you know that's obviously fantastic for the sport because it's going out live on on Fight Pass you know which means that then it's getting that audience in front of the kind of end where they uh crowd like the guys who would have gone in you know signed up for five pass generally to follow UFC uh so just getting that like live in the feed is always good you know um and in this country I think yeah it's the more uh kind of exposure we get that way then the more people are interested you know and like people want to compete it's it's um not everybody does but like a lot of people want to compete it's a really good experience you know and certainly like from from the point of view of like um uh exposure to to uh what would you call it like um stressful situations you know for MMA or for even self-defense kind of styles of the best way to mimic that feeling of like being in a uh being in a fight of some sort is to go and do a competition where everybody is staring at you you know I mean like there's you could have a hundred people standing around the match looking at you and this other one guy you have your teammates you know you've been training for two weeks or training for six weeks to try to prepare for this so it's a great way to get like stress exposure um which then if you're into MMA or if you're looking at Jiu Jitsu from a self a self defense perspective uh it's a good way to get that kind of stress inoculation you know so I think competition is super important and it's also like good fun as well generally yeah yeah no like that there is some fantastic ones Grappler Kings had one there recently they had some great names they've got Grappler Queens which I think is a fantastic idea as well yeah obviously me Nanny just talked about this and he said like sometimes they might want to be in the bigger sense but I think this actually makes more of a big deal having the grapple Queens then yeah for sure I love it there's going to be some bit like it's just going to give it more exposure and then they're in in the other shows as well but with your gym okay how long is it is yourself that owns the gym is it and myself and Jeremy yeah I'm a coach okay and you said it was what seven years ago you opened what what made you open it in in Ireland like was that something you always want to do when you kind of started it was kind of by accident honestly um so I I we were trying to wait I started in team balance under under Ray Butcher and then we moved we were training with George Santos uh in Parnell Street there for a while and my brother and a friend of his um they started getting into the kind of Camp Planet stuff so um we just had a we had a little match space uh in the back of that CrossFit gym so there's a bunch of us just getting together to kind of drill the warm-ups uh the tampon warm-ups and just kind of practice that back on the side of it you know and um they got Jeremy over for a seminar over here excuse me um so we had a bunch of people who were just kind of hooking it was we weren't charging or anything like that it was just a club where we're kind of getting together just to kind of practice this stuff and we've been talking to Jeremy there and we were like oh Jeremy man I'd be so good eventually to open a templana sham and he's like ah let's do it boys like I'm I'm totally there for you so you're just like yeah I don't know he's uh Jeremy's a Madman he's he's like a missionary for a 10th Planet you know what I mean so he's just like anything he can do to spread the word he's like right there and he was like totally totally behind us right from the get-go you know he was just like if you guys want to do it like just let me know what you need I'll help you out in any way I can and that's just kind of how it went from there so that's that's good obviously you had you had people in there at the start like you said you were just meeting up and then how have you seen a progressive year and how stressful is it to to ruin a gym and and to have students and stuff like that as well as trying to compete yourself and and trying to upgrade yourself uh yeah I mean it's definitely more complicated than you think it's going to be at the start you know so like the idea what you have in your head is like oh it'll be great I'll just open the gym and I can just train like all the time like obviously that is not true you know if anything you're you're training takes in those dive um so you do have to kind of like build in kind of some time for yourself to to train you know we've been fortunate enough now that like with the guys that I have in the gym uh they're all kind of pretty high quality you know not all like obviously not the newer guys but like the more experienced guys are pretty high quality so they'll basically keep me honest you know so I know if if I stop training they're gonna flip me up uh you know if I get lazy they're absolutely gonna chase me down and make me pay for my laziness so you have an incentive to kind of stay on top of your training but like apart from that I just like I love training uh like it's it's super enjoyable um and like the the sport has always changing you know so like every year uh the kind of there's new things coming up through the bubble and off through the scene you know what I mean uh and stuff that you might have been doing uh last last year or the year before you're like oh man that [ __ ] doesn't really work anymore or like there's some really easy encounters or like you know some guys come up with a new system or you know and you're like ah I need to figure out what the [ __ ] is going on here you know so like uh it's easy to stay motivated it's hard to find the time I suppose we'll be there will be the answer and then obviously with your students you kind of have to keep on top of your own training because as the game changes you know you need to stay current to sell that watch your teaching to your students is not like at Jiu Jitsu from five years ago you know what I mean which is not the same as as what was going what is going on right now you know um so things have changed a lot so it's just kind of really with the for the students you just have to kind of sit down and plan out a curriculum you know and then every so often uh you kind of sit down look over the curriculum again and say like okay this needs to change this needs to change maybe this and this I thought were a good idea but they don't really slot together well you know so you just have to kind of [ __ ] around with it and lucky enough like is Eddie Bravo's doing like a huge amount of work already so he's got this like 10 pounder system or um it's what he calls the kind of the layout of of you know the tampon system is what he calls it and basically he has a bunch of kind of uh slow points already set out a bunch of kind of systems you know if we start off and mount we have this this and this option that lead through here into the back or they lead through here into into other attacking options you know so you can kind of use the work that other people have done a lot of the time to kind of inform what you're going to do yeah but that's good though it's like a little map of okay so if you're here you can plants off into a different positions so once you get to this position there's so many other positions and like that if Eddie's done that it's then obviously there for a year to then to pass on to everyone and then like I said it makes you feel like to steal yes to make to make sure it's passed down and it makes it easier for yourself in a sense but like you said like five in five years like set the space how much have you seen like the evolution of of every sport goes up obviously because it's becoming more popular like how how far has let's say in the last five years like is there moves that would have you worked five years ago and it would have been a dead start and now it's just it's just a no-go because there's too many counters oh yeah for sure uh well maybe not a no-go but certainly stuff that is not uh it's not the the kind of One-Shot kill that it would have been in the past you know so I don't know if you're familiar with the kind of leg lock game yeah so that's kind of the biggest example so kind of like uh when Eddie's Eddie started this like ebi the Eddie Bravo Invitational you know and there was a bunch of guys from the um from hanzo's John danaher uh Gordon Ryan uh Gary town and and Eddie Cummings who came up and they were absolutely murdering people with leg loss you know so at the time the leglock game was super underdeveloped in in the rest of Jiu-Jitsu you know what I mean so these guys had a kind of a a leg up so they ended up like destroying people for a long time just with the leg loss you know so and when Eddie saw that like he he basically got onto everybody in the system and he said like we're all going to be doing this now for the next year everybody needs to figure out what the [ __ ] is going on with this leg lock [ __ ] you know so like he forced a lot of the 10 planetariums in the studio in the leg locks early you know so there was a time there where like like 10 planner had a reputation for this like oh they just come in pool Garden like a lot of people you know which I don't think is true and I don't think it's true anymore certainly um but like if you think about the leglock game now like the leg lock so the leglock attacks were super well developed back then but the defenses weren't so people were able to get [ __ ] up pretty easily the defenses now have come on uh and the attacks then have evolved basically into people using the leg locks uh Tweeter like attack a submission from the legs or then to start working back up to past guard or to start working to try to take the back off that you know so you're using the thread of the leg locks then to open up your guard passing or to open up your black tape um and in the last couple of years then you've really seen like a like a switch away from guard pulling uh and from kind of inverting underneath people to try to hunt for the legs into trying to stand up off the bottom you know which is obviously much more applicable to MMA so people are wrestling up from the bottom people are kind of refusing to accept being stuck inside control so instead of butter into to like stay on the bottom and regard a lot of people are starting to build up now you know like the uh Derek Lewis kind of style of like turn turn belly down come up to your hands and knees build up to the feet and then start going from there you know so like you're seeing the wrestling up and the the kind of just stand up uh style of standing up off the bottom and then obviously people's wrestling has got to get much better in order to hold people down who are trying to stand up you know so the wrestling scene has come on a huge amount of think even over the last kind of two or three years uh in nogi and then you're seeing much more um because it is this idea of like shutting down the legs like the pressure passing from top position has also come on a lot so you're seeing much more instead of people kind of inverting under trying to hunt for the legs getting into a counter leg lock battle one guy will start to like smash heavy curse the legs pass into Mount and then you're seeing a lot more kind of heavy uh heavy style amount so in a way the game is kind of like I'm not going to say it's devolving I'd say it's kind of uh revolving back to some of the kind of older style uh Jiu-Jitsu stuff you know take them down pass this guard get on top end to mount and you're either gonna crush him or you're going to try to force the fat cake and choke them from there you know or just with that addition then of very strong leg loss as well um so yeah it's been super interesting for me because I kind of got into Jujitsu like just before this kind of leglock thing was happening you know so I saw it like as it was as it was all kind of taken off and I was like what the [ __ ] even is this magic it was crazy it was so crazy okay so you've got a seminar coming up I believe would that be correct that's the one yeah if you want to describe people what the Seminary is what's involved in and what you think people from the GIF team will benefit from going to it and what's your biggest highlight or favorite thing about it so far or favorite guest uh yeah so we're we're running a week on Camp so the idea is that from Monday the 18th Friday the 22nd we'll be running a camp during the day so two training sessions during the day and then Florida Camp attendees they can also come to the north the the normal uh evening classes as well um excuse me so you have the chance if you want you could train basically from 10 in the morning until nine o'clock at night if you had the energy for it so we're getting a bunch of guys over from the states and a couple of guys over from um from Scotland uh just to ruin seminars at this week on Camp uh so basically you can think of it like immersion you know so it will be you're gonna come in and you're gonna be in a room with a bunch of high level guys they're all going to be showing some of their kind of high level uh techniques so it's a really good chance for you to to get like one time on a match and then two a chance to look at what the high level guys are doing up close you know um yeah so uh it's a really good way I I find for me obviously Jeremy's in in a different country you know so I don't get to train with Jeremy every day so for me I've I've gotten a lot of benefit out of going to seminars uh we're kind of higher level guys and just like picking out bits and pieces of their game and getting tips trying to get roles in with them and seeing how they [ __ ] me up or how they shut my game down how they stop me from doing what I'm trying to do you know uh it's it's super useful there's no so a lot of people are worried then um the kind of newer guys are always always worried about like okay I've only been training six months will I be able for the pace in the room and the answer is generally yes uh normally we'd have somewhere around kind of 40 to 45 percent uh white belts and then the rest of the room will be made up of kind of the rest of the belt levels you know obviously in in descending order so more blue belts on purpose usually um but yeah it's definitely worthwhile that's a huge amount of white Bears to be at seven hours I would have thought yeah for sure and is that just their enthusiasm and willingness to try and progress their game that that you find for sure yeah yeah yeah um yeah generally you know it's it's a lot of it is just holidays as well you know it's a it's a nice change of pace to get away from work for a week and just kind of come in and do something you enjoy doing put a bunch of other enthusiastic people you know well yeah it's certainly worthwhile I think like for me I did I did a lot of seminars again with Jeremy being in in different countries I did a lot of seminars when it was coming up you know uh and it's a really good way to to kind of get eyes onto onto the stuff that you're doing wrong you know because obviously in in classes um your coaches will do the best but you know sometimes stuff just gets mixed up or you get kind of lost in the the shuffle you know um and seminars then because they're kind of longer it's normally kind of like a classes an hour um the seminars are usually kind of two to three hours just depending uh what they're what they're kind of aimed at and normally they'll be on a team so we might be looking at passing just as an example might be looking to pass some half guard you know so you'll get like two hours of kind of intensive work on this rather than uh you're kind of like um 40 minutes which you might get in an all of us you know yeah because obviously I've seen the seminars like Lee Harmon doesn't care diver and Gary people like that dude they do them on a daily basis and it's cool that you've got it out over a week and and so what would I be correct to say like the same now like just say care never goes up and he is like he's just I don't want to say a specialist but he's he's he excels in a certain area is that what would be happening like like you said two three hours of just drilling drilling Drilling and trying to perfect that that position or that move yeah generally so normally they'll have some sort of a team for a seminar you know so um you know if we just take half Garden as an example you know so you might have they might have some sort of team but you know often guys would if they're famous for something in particular then they would generally tend to kind of teach around that thing that they're famous for you know so a kind of a great almost a greatest hits sort of uh sort of a team you know what if we took half guard as an example you might have uh you might have your seminar broken up into kind of like okay this is the kind of base of the seminar so here's where we start off and then from this node we can kind of Branch off if he defends this way we might Branch off one way if he defends this way we might Branch off another way you know um or they may have like a concept that they're trying to they're trying to bring across in the seminar so you may be like attacking okay so we're trying to pass half guard using chest pressure you know so here's kind of two or three different examples of different ways that we can pass half guard using chest pressure you know um and then the guys are always available to kind of come around and ask questions and to kind of troubleshoot which is so you can kind of feel what's going on you know what um yeah generally people would have you know normally they'd have a team set in advance and they can kind of uh teach around that team you know and obviously they should have some sort of preparation done yeah obviously this is I would presume this has taken place uh the week long Camp is going to take place in the gym where can people find a gym if they may not know about it already yeah so we're in North strand uh we're just off the other Road in North strand uh Dublin three so if you're coming out of town say you're coming towards plantar uh we're just over the Canal Bridge so just right beside about 15 minutes outside Dublin yeah if you're walking there um so it's all up on on the website pilgrims.com uh or we're on Google maps location page is set in there and all the camp details are on that templin at dublin.com as well um yeah and if you want to come in anyone's welcome with an Open Mat on Saturdays so you can come in uh for a roll anytime you want you as well oh I get smashed I guess but wait wait what time is your plan on Saturdays because I I uh 10 o'clock on Saturday 10 o'clock and it's noogie like he said so that was oh no yeah because I don't use bad for your fingers I don't like E before and I say oh [ __ ] this it wouldn't stay on and the eyes like today yeah yeah it sounds like a really really good week like that you've got people coming in uh like I said Jeremy like you've got holes to other people um how fun was it for you to set up something like this and obviously if it's successful which I think it will be is it something that you might do on a yearly basis or or is it something that's currently been done on a yearly basis and I've just missed that because I've only commented it's not flown right now uh but it will be fun by the time we get to the camps uh yeah you know the usual yourself trying to do all the organization behind the scenes it's a pain in the hoop uh but the week of the camp is is great crack yeah uh once you get there the organization out of the way and you're actually in the in the kind of Camp time that's really good um we ran a camp before in 2019 uh and we had we had some really good guys over for that as well uh obviously the covert kind of put the kiboshi on the on the camps for a while you know uh so this is the first time that we've had a chance to find a kind of organize another one So the plan is to try to keep them going yearly yeah for sure um assuming that this one goes well which I think the will um and then obviously jean-jack so the the lineup that we have this here is it's pretty strong so um I can give you the readout if you want so we have a bunch of 10 Planet guys so we've got Scott Epstein who runs 10 pounder West LA he's a third degree black belt under Eddie just got inducted into the Hall of Fame and he was the inventor of the I don't know if you've seen the Executioner the the kind of it's like a neck crank Guillotine from the back so imagine you're behind me you kind of wrap the neck and you're like cranking my head backwards and choking me at the same time so that's executioner it's [ __ ] awful it's awful uh we've got Kyle Chambers uh coming over who's like a rubber guard Master he's um probably most famously was on that who's next show uh he had a two and a half hour or two hour uh silver only match would always like Michelle which was like crazy uh he's got a Jeremiah advance from Temple under Santa Barbara uh he's a 10 Planet black belt as well so he's most famous for like the gogo clinch and for the fly trap that submission from bottom side control uh who else have we got um Rory McCann from uh he was running 10 Planet Carlo um it was like probably got the best rubber guard in the country at the moment I saw him hit a hondula team in a competition and also hit like a gag reflex finish uh uh and who else uh we've got uh Craig McIntosh moth who's a black belt under Jeremy Scottish necktie guy it's like a Doris uh submission that he kind of came up with himself and then the kind of two most famous guys and obviously sorry Jeremy my coach and then the two most famous guys we have coming over is Stevie Ray who used to fight in the UFC used to fight in the pfl uh he's probably most famous for that in in Jiu Jitsu terms for that Scottish twister that he hit on Anthony Pettis where he broke uh broke Anthony Pettis's rib with that neck crank is jean-jack Machado who's Eddie Bravo's uh coach um so Jean Jack is like super famous in the Jiu Jitsu scene he's one of the original guys he's got a uh he was a gold and a silver medalist at ADCC in the past um and he basically kind of um I'm not going to say he invented a lot of the kind of modern uh butterfly guard stuff but he definitely popularized that came up with his own spin um so I'm not sure if you know Jean-Jacques has like um uh he got like amniotic band syndrome so he basically has no fingers on his left hand so just a thought so he could never grip the ghee obviously with his left hand uh so he had to kind of invent not invent but like uh like work around that so he uses under hooks over hooks so uh when Eddie moved then into into kind of primarily nogi he already had all that stuff from John Jack you know John Jack had already uh worked through him with a lot of that underhook over hope stuff so I made it much easier for Eddie to kind of um uh work that kind of nogi game uh but jean Jack's an animal yeah he's crazy he's still talking people up to this day that's mental and Eddie Eddie Legend as well like I said his popularity really really pushed to Jim because I wouldn't have heard about it then I seen the the likes of Edis and stuff on it and and like I said jiu-jitsu's coming back in in I'm not coming back but it's pushing on in a big way like I said on UFC Fight Pass I think uh gsps after signing into flight on an Invitational that's right yeah which will do only the world obviously GSP is considered one of the greatest in MMA and hopefully you'll get more eyes on it so um it sounds like a fantastic Camp you have so like I said on Saturdays hopefully open maps and so open maps yeah does that matter whether a pure beginner or their white bear blue belt is there any restrictions no no everyone everyone is welcome yeah come on in anytime yeah perfect so the camp is going to be in obviously 10 Planet gym who do they talk to about signing up or or uh just to find out more information will be yourself or do you have other people with you that we can direct into as well uh trust myself yeah so the the Instagram is uh 10th Planet Dublin on Instagram the website is 10th planet dublin.com and there's a link on the top for the the camp you can sign up for the camp directly through that link uh or if you have any questions you can email us Pilgrim gmail.com my number's on the website so you can give me a call um send me a message on Instagram uh don't don't bother on Facebook Facebook is not uh I'd never done that but I tell you I think Facebook I think has had a stay now to be honest I think so yeah like like like Jiu Jitsu technology also evolves but that evolves very yeah for sure it sounds like Stevie Ray someone who would be really interested in obviously because of the MMA background um and see someone like that and I like that for people who were Jiu-Jitsu enthusiasts or you just want to begin this sounds like a perfect camp like you said let's say 40 of the attendees yeah usually somewhere around 40 of the room will be wiped out here and who goes Yeah so basically whether you wipe out blue bed Purple belt whatever ever come for you yeah yeah down to me down to like one class or I got smashed um everybody's welcome uh you just got all the details there for if you want to get any information or sign up directly any questions or queries like you said you can eat if someone sees this and comes to me I can put you in the right direction as well I want to wish you the best of success with the camp it sounds fantastic it sounds something that a large Jiu Jitsu people will take to um and I can't wait to hear how it goes and maybe I'll pop up one of the days and see see how things are going yeah drop on in yeah no butter yeah thanks for having me is there anything you'd like to say before you go anyone you'd like to shout out or is there any anything else other information you'd like to get out there for people to see Eddie Bravo 10th planet perfect it's been an absolute pleasure talking today like I said I wish his best talk and I might pop up on the days and do a little bit of coverage or something if that's okay with you for sure yeah can you tell me once perfect thank you so much no worries talk to you soon talk to you soon
