Fansview MMA speaks with Eimear Darcy ahead of her professional MMA debut on Cage Warriors in Dublin at the RDS, roughly one week after the interview. Darcy reflects on closing out a strong amateur run with two titles (Fit to Fight and Your Championship), her longest layoff in about four or five months, and how she previously fought every second or third month. She describes trying and failing to get a flyweight match on Your Fighting Championship in February before Cage Warriors’ Oren offered her a pro opportunity she took immediately. Darcy says Dublin’s proximity eases fight-week logistics and expects heavy local support, including family watching from Australia. Training has stayed high-intensity at Compound with five-minute rounds and spider sessions, plus added elbow work for pro rules; she also cross-trains and boxes elsewhere. She welcomes a experienced pro opponent (three fights, including against Dakota) rather than fearing the gap. Coach Usheen leads opponent study with a team approach involving Ryan and Alex. Darcy plans to stay very active in 2024, works with nutritionist Lauren on the cut starting Easter Sunday, and expects pre-fight nerves. She credits her team and urges amateurs not to doubt themselves despite feeling new to the sport.

[Music] okay so I'm here with EMR Darcy H we're coming up on a big Pro debut last year she had a fantastic am career finishing off with two titles the fit to fight and the your championship fight and title so how are you doing uh big week this for the next week until the debut how are you feeling yeah feeling good um really excited so yeah I just I can't wait to get in there yeah feels like it's been ages since I've been in there but it's only been like four months maybe five um so yeah I'm very excited and do you think it feels longer because of the occasion that it is because it is the the pro debut and you're you're excited to get in there is it just because you were so active as an amateur I I think it's just because I was so active h I think this is probably the longest I've gone without fighting um the five months I think between my first fight and my second fight was pretty much the exact same time uh four or five months between each of them and then after that I was just fighting every like second or third month um so yeah this definely I think it's it's actually just um I feel like time has actually gone faster but it it feels like it's been longer if that makes sense probably doesn't make sense it does it does I I I'll figure it out in my head but if it makes sense to you that's all that matters um but where obviously your amateur career is is kind of in the the rear view but I seen a post I think it was was one of the days during the week it was like a year from your second MMA fight which is crazy to think that uh did you think after your second MMA fight in a year you'd be fighting on a show like cage wires in Dublin in the RDS on such a big stage for your pro debut in one year later yeah it's mad um I I couldn't predict what was going to happen then um but like I'm so glad that it it's worked out this way but I did know that I would just be fighting like I knew that I have like us know he says I've no time to waste so I knew then I had no time to waste so um I knew that it just needed to be fight after fight and getting in as much experience as I possibly can H but what way that was going to look a year from then um I would I didn't know so it's great that it's it's this outcome yeah no and like said you're leaving with a fantastic record two belts as well what was the biggest takeaway you got from amateur that you could if you were going to pass on advice to an am a female amateur within Ireland UK or or wherever it may be around the world what would your advice be or what what was your biggest takeaway and what advice would you give to an amateur um I think my biggest takeaway was not to like doubt myself I wouldn't because I I don't doubt myself like I'd be quite confident in in terms of training and stuff but like I think because I wasn't doing it that long I would have compared myself to other people that were doing it as long and almost I was like do I almost belong here like a little bit because I felt so new to it um but then all of the training that I had done had shown me like yes you do um so now that feeling is totally gone um and I definitely feel like I belong here um so yeah I think it would be more just not to kind of like doubt yourself yeah cuz like that I I get what you're saying when you go into something that you're not into that long you feel like a kind of imp syndrome sort of a team but you like you excelled in the amateur in the amateur game what would have been your favorite fight or your favorite finisher or your F your the favorite fight like we all know my favorite fight the one with you and Sarah I thought was absolutely fantastic and I think it brought up it show the levels of women's MMA regardless of the results obviously you won but regardless of the result that like the way you two actually competed against each other my son went to that show and he said that was his favorite fight of all the fights that was the fight that he was like that was the fight I liked the most um what was your favorite fight or like do you have a do you have good feelings towards all of them um yeah I would have good feelings towards all them I would find it very hard to pick a favor um that like that fight was great um yeah I've just loved every fight I've taken something away from every single one even the ones that I've lost um so yeah it's it's too it's too hard to pick a favorite I like them all just like someone goes what show you like the best I'm like I can't pick a show that I like the best cuz I like them all so yeah they all good like that you had a fantastic am career and and it was I think you you were actually scheduled they're trying to match it on your Fighting Championship there in February weren't they and you originally stay to go on that how did the cage Warriors team come around if that's something you can talk about and what was your immediate feeling after you knew cage warriors were interested in you because I'd say that's such of like you said you felt like you didn't belong at one stage and now obviously not to doubt yourself but then to get a call from somewhere like that for your first pro fight must have been just fantastic yeah it was great and even on that dough piece it it I feel like because you can feel two things at the same time so you can doubt yourself and then you can also be confident um so it was kind of that like mixed feeling with that and then with the I War I was trying to get match at Flyway and that just didn't work out I um there was no I couldn't get matched um and then cage Warriors Oren um had just said it to me and yeah it was just an opportunity that we just jumped on straight away yeah know that's because obviously K are going to have a bigger network of people a bigger network of Fighters that want to fight and and that's nothing against your or any of the the regional shows but like that it's hard for you to get it's hard for a lot of females to get matched in Ireland and they usually kind of fight everyone and have to move on but now at least you've got that Pro debut how do you feel about your first fight being in Dublin as well because it's going to be so close for everyone to get there you know most of the amateur MMA SC is going to be there and kind of all the fans and it's going to be surrounded by your friends and family and people you know how does what's that feeling like knowing that's what you're going into yeah it feels great just to know that like all that support is there it's lovely that it's in Dublin as well um it's so close to home so even that those little things that you do be planning the next morning of getting there and that kind of is a little bit of the stress away that it's so close to um and I think it's just going to be a very special night I'm front of all my my family and friends and everyone's support has just been amazing so far my brother's over in Australia so he'll be watching from over there he's trying to like figure out time zones and everything so yeah the support um has just been has been amazing yeah no it's a fantastic show I'm I was looking it down through the card because I was looking at picking out people for interviews and and my God what a card it is and what what a group of Fighters it is is it's going to be a night to remember but in the lead up to this fight obviously you took your training seriously your was quite was there much change is obviously you're going to have the longer rounds um and there is going to be elbows and knees involved so did you am amplify your training did you did you start drilling other things or or has it been just more of the same um it's been pretty much more of the same um I would have always had quite high intensity in terms of training and stuff and we would have been training five minute rounds for a long time in compound um like we do spider sessions and there they always three fives and then you're helping someone else with their spider so you're constantly kind of like on the go working um so I feel like I'm prepared for the for the cardio for the for the five minutes and then it would have just been working in some elbows and getting used to that aspect as well um so yeah I'm just really excited to be able to show off different parts of my game now as well yeah because like that you're G to have the elbows which I think will potentially suit you cuz obviously we know what your striking is like you can get in and out really quickly are you looking for to being able to use the OS when you get in that range as well or is that something we just have to wait and see I think something we'll have to wait and see but um I'm looking forward to showing off lots of different parts of my game um there's been a lot of work put in um so yeah I'm really looking forward to it yeah so obviously we're not going to see you completely different fighter but what what like in the past four or five months like have you seen like I've seen an improvement on you fight by fight and obviously you said this is the longest you've been out so are we going to see a big a big like you you've talked about new things you've learned have you seen a big progression in your skill set in these last five months yeah I think I've um probably taken more time to almost slow down a little bit um like it was always kind of go go go onto the next fight whereas this is one of the longest periods of time I've had to just focus on a fight um so there's been a lot more even just trying to understand techniques a lot better um watching a lot of technique videos putting a lot of time into the the mechanics of different things um and trying to really understand things a lot more so I think yeah just kind of taking that that little step back from being go go go uh while also still keeping a high kind of workplace but really being able to to get into being a lot more technical um and then I've been going over and training in in our works as well over an inch core and doing some boxing there too so just taking the time to really focus on different aspects of my game yeah I like the fact that you're mixing it up and you're you're you're adding different stuff to it but with your opponent obviously she comes in she's got three fights previously and if you look at who she's fought she's fought Dakota who is probably one of like you look at in the UK she's probably one of the hottest prospects outside of the UFC um and her other two opponents as well have like one of them she she lost in the middle of a Mad win streak so when she's got that experience of being in the cage um do you think that like obviously the skill levels there there's different levels and skills for every Fighters but do you think she'll have an advantage because she's got the experience in the Pro fights or are you ready for everything that she's going to throw at you no I'm ready for everything um I'm really looking forward to the fact that she has so much experience as well and I think it kind of goes back to that piece of how I I might have felt at the start of the amateur and those feelings kind of slip in like that feeling's gone and maybe before I would have looked and thought God she's had three fights already and you know I might overthink about that a little bit but now I'm like God that's great she's so much experience I'm going to get to test myself so much and and it's just going to be it's going to be great and then like like you were saying it's going to give you a better kind of understanding of of where you kind of see yourself as well because I see you going quite far if you continue on the run that that you were and you've got a fantastic skill set and attitude towards training and just the fight game in general have you studied how much or did you leave that stuff to ushin because I know his mind for the game I like I could sit down with ushi and I sit there I met him on the way back and talked to him for about 20 minutes my son was like I want to go home Dad come on I but I could have sat there with him for an hour two hours and I've talked to him multiple times does he do most of the kind of looking into the fight or do you do much of it yourself um no I he no he does he like finds out everything um and like that if you have a qu like he always says if he doesn't have the answer for something he'll go and find it but most times he has the answer and but he would he would have like looked at her fights and stuff and and then I would have looked at her fights as well and to be hon like even in training uh for like specific training practice they will look at her fight and then when we're doing rounds and stuff like that as well so it's a whole kind of team approach everyone's just trying to be as prepared as they possibly can and like Ryan's looking at her fight everyone's looking at her fight I can I can only imagine everyone but cuz cuz it's a big one we were supposed to get Alex there recently that fight fell true which was fortunate so uh a lot of I think then obviously once his fight fell to obviously all Focus then is on you H what's it like working with using H and Alex and Ryan and all these guys you seem to have just such of like a family mental like a family togetherness yeah it's just great it's uh it's amazing being able to train in the gym with everybody um like if us know says like it's an individual sport but you need the team to get you there and he's completely right um and he's an amazing coach as well um everything that he has taught me so far and I know that there's just so much more and yeah um and then the team itself is is great yeah everyone's just really supportive um the focuses on like what you want to improve and stuff and at the same time they're getting things out of it too um but like that if I'm prepping for a fight people are really kind of supportive around what it is that I need them to help me with um so yeah it's great yeah no with me in the morning times instead in the evening times and it like everyone's just super accommodating so it's it's really great to be part of such an amazing team yeah know it is a fantastic team I have great time for everyone within the team uh I can't wait to see your fight coming up a we don't want to look obviously past your opponent but are you looking to stay as active as you were in the Pro scene as you were in amateur yeah absolutely um I just want to be able to fight as much as I possibly can this year year that's my my focus um so yeah I'd love to stay as active as possible and with as many fights as possible so yeah yeah well it'd be good to see you fight that many times and and obviously we're getting closer and closer to fight how's the weight how are you feeling this far out like mentally physically emotionally like what's kind of going through your mind right now because it is uh a big event coming up obviously you've got a wake up like how how are you feeling in general between all those like the the weight and stuff like that good yeah um I've a great nutritionist so she will kind of check in with you and make sure that everything is covered how you're feeling mentally and emotionally and physically and training and everything and any adjustments that need to be made um she helps with all that her name's Lauren um and then just in general yeah I'm feeling great I'm just I'm very excited um I just can't wait to get in there I know I'll be ner I always get nervous before I fight um we kind of just learn that how to deal with the ner and that they're going to be there um so that's just a part of it as well but um yeah I can't wait and the way Cut's going Grand I started like kind of coming down now Easter Sunday so um the Easter eggs will be saved until after the fight that's okay mentally preparing myself to De that so um but yeah other than that everything has G really well yeah what a what a week to have it just after Easter Sunday so I'm pretty sure that there's going to be a lot of will you be digging into those Easter eggs once this fight is over oh yeah I've had so every every fight that I've had since I've started has fallen the week after Easter um so like every Easter I've brought an Easter egg to a fight so this won't be any different so I just I wait till after um but yeah absolutely yeah what is your favorite Easter egg what is the Easter egg you're gonna bring to have after the fight I love mini eggs but I love like I love nest quick chocolate tastes like fake chocolate I love fake chocolate like chocolate money and like chocolate from twoo shop um people think I'm weirdo and nesquick is like the closest to the fake chocolate that you can get um so yeah it'll be some form of nqu egg I would me I'd go with the mini egg personally because especially because they it's only kind of around four Easter now the mini egg stuff isn't it it's not it's not all year anymore I don't think so packet Mini Eggs and then just have Nest cook egg have both well yeah it's true true especially is you can do what you want you have to dieet in this fight week it's going to be fight night but on that note back the next day so sorry um on that not I'm Gonna Let You Go while we're on a happy good note I want to wish you the best luck I can't wait to see you perform this is something we've been kind of looking forward to H as a community not just myself uh since you kind of started uh because like I said you and the other females you and you and Sarah especially I think she's going to go pro soon as well like what the height you can get to and what you can do pay P the way for women going forward like the girls did before you Ashton Dy Shen kav uh and all these so it's I'm going to be it's going to be uh good to follow your journey and I will see you fighting next weekend thank you very much for your time is there anything you want to save before you go or anyone you want to shout out um just my team and using and my friends and family and everyone for this support so far it's just been amazing and I really appreciate it and I can't wait to get in there
