Jamie Mcaleese returns to the cage within a metre few weeks of fighting and we talk about the quick turnaround

Fansview MMA speaks with Jamie Mcaleese ahead of a quick turnaround bout against Kieran on short notice, shortly after Jamie lost to Daman at a Chaos Fighting Championships show where he says he took no damage. Jamie explains that he thought he was done for the year until a Friday call after a pull-out on the card; he accepted within about half an hour despite missing family milestones in the past, including nearly skipping his youngest son's Communion for a Liverpool fight. He is dropping from featherweight—closer to his walk-around weight—back to bantamweight and says he comfortably floats between the two. Jamie does not camp for specific opponents and prefers to build on his own strengths. He has not watched much of Kieran or UFC generally but expects a good scrap. He plans to finish for Christmas after this fight unless offered very high pay, and does not expect to chase the remaining Ireland show in Cork. He also describes how opponent pull-outs, often about a week out, waste camps—and why he steps in on short notice so others might do the same for him.

Kind: captions Language: en [Music] here I am again with Jamie M so soon I did this I think this is probably the first time that I spoke to a fighter essentially on back-to-back shows um you we seen obviously you fought Daman in chaos H you took no damage in the fight unfortunately you weren't successful um so you were able to take this fight how how did this fight come about once thank you very much for your time um but how did this fight come about um so quickly for you well after chaos that was me for the year really then uh there was a pull in this show and I got contacted I think it was Friday there um within half an hour it was set up so and with the obviously the last one was you you fought a Fed weight this one you're coming back down to to Bantam weight um we cuz FWE you were saying it was kind of more you're walking around weight so I'm assuming the we isn't going to be that much of a problem for you oh I was way down breathing late there for that last one but uh there's not I just keep floating in between these two weights that's comfortable in there so dead all and then like that you can take kind of fights if they come in at short notice at like a slightly low weight or kind of the walk around way right as well but we obviously going into F here on he's and on on short notice there's there's no real time to kind of prep for a well there is time to prep for a style but you don't have a whole Camp do you think that's more beneficial for you going in and just worrying about what you're going to do rather than yeah that's that's the way I work anyway I don't really train for any particular guy all my fights all the camps are just training for my strengths and what way I'm working whatever whatever I work on so I feel all right about this fight I don't really see much problems with it yeah no 100% I like that that it is a quick turnaround and fair play it's a it's a show that I like going to your Fighting Championship is it's one of the many good shows that we have on the country like you thought you were done for Christmas but once the fight got offered and you said what with in half hour were you just like yeah [ __ ] it we we go again I it's very hard for me to say no to a fight so it's very hard like I my youngest there I nearly missed his Kon for a fight over in Liverpool once I miss birthdays and stuff it's very hard for me to say no to them so once I get offered it I sat on it for about half an hour and then it's like I I usually say I I can't I can't turn it off you know and that's the way uh the real Fighters are they they'll take these fights when they come across and and you said obviously there about this is what people don't understand as well um with Fighters and I want to kind of get across the likes of birthdays and stuff like that that's stuff that is is sacrificed by Fighters yourself that you just said and not just you but that is stuff that that does get sacrificed and and how hard is it to do that at times because it's not easy that's you hate to do these things if you want to be part of that sport in a big way but that's hard to do it but in the long run hopefully it works out it be B better for Christmas and stuff that doing last but sure fell stuff I I can imagine you wouldn't have been uh the number one in the household at that time if that had had it got across the line I was standing up in the CH where black a and Bost at FAL next day have you got pictures from that I'd love to see those I think they're on Facebook but my nose was sitting over here somewhere two black guys perfect perfect do yeah no 100% and you're not the only one and that's one of the things I like to get across with two people is what you go to because even though you do things that 99% of the population of the world don't do you still are human like everybody else and and you have these events and have these things and and these are dilemas that you do have to face uh on a basis of being a fighter but um with Kieran uh this weekend you're going to be fighting on your uh how' you rate Kieran as a fighter have like would you've watched them much before I haven't really seen much about him I don't really follow much fighters to be honest with I don't watch UFC hardly but uh I've seen a b of them there he seems hand enough be a good scrap i' see yeah no he is he's he's a good fighter to same as yourself and there's one obviously you've got this show you're going to enjoy Christmas when do you envision getting back in there or you just going to just get through this fight and enjoy Christmas and decide after that I see I'll do this fight and then that'll be me to for Christmas definitely unless somebody offers me really stupid money to get or something sure but after this one I'd say that be it for now anyway till next year yeah though 100% I think uh for your own fa sake with the with the Ms and the family um you just uh lay off the fight into last new there's only one more show in Ireland and it's in Cork as well so I don't Envision anything going down there but like anything can happen you never know you never know if you phones me you never know it can happen no 100% 100% no I look forward to to seeing you this weekend H H and then challenging here and like I said fair play for coming in it's such short no it's a lot of Fighters would turn around and and say no a lot of Fighters say no when they full camps and you've just said yes to backto back shows within the country which I think is fantastic for a fighter and is what a fighter should be but I am going to let you go I do appreciate your time is there anything you want to say before you go yeah the only reason I took s fate as I know well it's like to get have a fight and then a pull out and then you have no fight so that's [ __ ] too so I like to step down when I car to help out everybody else as well yeah on that of things too yeah no talk to us about that the times that's happened yet and and kind of what goes through you like you're training for a camp and at What stages were the pullouts were they a week before two weeks before days before week before when it happens to you it's it's dishe hardening like it could thr it could throw some Fighters you know but yeah it's hard to get matchups really close to a show you know yeah and especially at professional as well cuz like we just said lot of people won't take fights they try and protect the records sometimes they will try and they they won't say no to to full fight or they won't say yes to full fight Camp sometimes but when you that when it comes to like a day before a week before and you hear they've pulled out and and nine times out of 10 eight times out of 10 is probably going to be a genuine reason but that still doesn't help the fact that you've you've trained for you've done all that training for nothing now but that's that's [ __ ] but that's why I like to step on short noes and stuff as well because I'd like to think somebody would do it for me down the line yeah I think sometimes when you do stuff like that it does come back around it does come back around know everybody's wanting to go see a fate so there might as well be one you know I mean yeah no 100% like I said Fair place for taking this fight I can't wait to see you this weekend thank you so much for joining me and I will talk to you on Sunday no worries man see that wrong perfect thank you
