Fansview MMA host Dave interviews Jordan Scully during fight week from a training camp in Poznan, Poland. Scully explains he had no fight booked until a late replacement call after Jamie McCarthy pulled out; he agreed to face Dominic Roads only if the bout carried double-champion status. He respects Roads from his Akuma fight with Jak Gilpin and expects a tough, competitive bout at super lightweight with only about 4.5 to cut. Scully reflects on a strong 2024 after a difficult 2023 at his old gym, his IMMAF losses to eventual winners Ivan Cararo and Max L, and how those experiences sharpened him. He credits daily training at SBG, European camps in Portugal, Sweden, and Poland (sparked by contact with Portuguese IMA world champion Z Mucho), and living with Ukrainian training partner Andre Muk. He says travel boosted his confidence, showed gaps to fix, and reinforced how strong his home team is. He plans more camps abroad in 2025, possibly Thailand and Sweden again, and closes with thanks to SBG and a shout-out to Muk’s pro debut the weekend after his own.

[Music] okay so I'm here with a Mr cold looking Jordan Scully he's all hatted up hooded up and it's fight week he's going to be fighting for another title another title he told me at the start of this year he was going to be the number one lightweight in Ireland and is certainly heading this way if he is able to obtain the belt this weekend um it's it's probably going to be more guaranteed but uh thank you very much for joining me how are you how is fight week tell us why you look so cold and you're all hated up where abouts are you right now uh everything's going well Dave the usual uh I'm actually in a POS in Poland at the minute I uh I've been doing a training camp out here the last two and a half weeks I didn't even plan on fighting I didn't have a fight booked but uh Dey got on to me and just asked me and said look uh we have a pull out uh I think it was jimie mccar I hope I'm saying that right he had pulled out and he asked me would I step in and fight down roads and I said look um I don't mind as long as it's for double champ status I'll do it and you know that's how the fight came into fruition but H he look I'm looking forward to this fight and uh I have a lot of respect for Dom I don't know him personally or anything I just know he fought Jak Gilpin at Akuma and H him and bla Mill were having a bit of back and forth that's how I really know him but uh look respect to him and uh Rob G to put on a great performance at the weekend so you know let's go yeah know I like that fair play to you and fair play to him as well for taking taking the fight because it's coming in him and Jamie would have been around the same experience levels you you've a bit more experience but me you me you speak personally regardless of the experience you're not taking D lightly because he's someone not to be taken lightly D like same as anyone like the person could be zero on 10 and I would like still treat him like he's a UFC world champion you know and uh I know Dom's coming out there with a point to prove and uh are the most dangerous Lads to fight so uh you know I I want the toughest challenges Dom has a good H record he's fought the best and you know he's game so you know I just want to fight lads who uh who are game and the best Lads out there and I definitely think Dom's one of the best Lads out there so look like I said we uh we're going to put on a great performance at the weekend so you know that's all I have to say really on it it was H obviously you were obviously after being away uh with the IM and goinging back is did you think that was kind of it then for your kind of uh year fighting wise um and what kind like you said obviously this came to FR I'm going to throw it out there I threw your name in the Hat there as well as soon as I seen it came out and I think I sent it straight to you as well um but did you think your kind of your your activity for levels for the year were were done after the imass and talk to through the IM and and and kind of what thought that fight feeling was like as well look Dave I planned obviously you know me I planned on winning it it was just unfortunate that the two best guys had to fight each other in the division I lost to the guy who actually ended up winning the whole thing I gave him I'm proud to say I gave him his toughest fight out of everyone and look sometimes you're just unfortunate with how the bracket goes you know but H look big H shout out to Ivan cararo he made me a better fighter that day and I really did learn a lot from that fight one of my uh Ukrainian friends who's actually living with me in uh toar at the minute Andre Muk he uh he had a lot of great things to say about the fight and uh look I learn like I said I've uh learned a lot from that fight and I think it' be one of the reasons why you're put on a great performance this weekend but like look either way you win or learn and that's just how it goes you know and I'm just ready to put on a performance this weekend and uh learn from my mistakes yeah and I think I I I correct me if I'm wrong but the the last time where you you went out in the brackets as well you lost to the guy who won it that year as well didn't you or am I wrong in saying that uh if if you're on about Max L then yes no but it's it from my point of view and and we've had quite a lot of contact since you've come back and even when you were gone away we had a lot of contact I think the year that you've had it has been phenomal pomal whatever way is kind of worked out how do you feel about about this year about being in being in n and and kind of how you've grown within the gym and within yourself and as a fighter most importantly because you've looked Sensational look Dave I it was just it was very unfortunate with 2023 like I said had a lot of things going on just with my old gym and uh just other things and having to make uh tough decisions but I definitely think they've paid off I'm very happy with how I've H come through adversary and the year I've had so far and uh I think winning this second belt will definitely top off a a great year that I've had and I honestly think 2025 is going to be an even better year for me but even just like you said withina n and that like i' obviously like I said to you before I'm training with killers on a daily basis and I definitely think it's benefiting me hugely even now I've traveled to a lot of gyms around Europe like I've been to Portugal Sweden and now I'm in hosand Poland and uh whereas before I didn't do any of that but I definitely feel now as a martial artist and as a person I've grown a lot and I've made a lot of improvements yeah because like that a lot of people you see them going away and they'll go to they might go to Thailand for an extended period of time or or Dubai and and they are beneficial in the sense and but you've kind of like what I like about you is there's a lot of different cultures a lot of different styles and a lot of things to experience in the world and like you said you've named three countries there obviously the country you're in Sweden and Portugal uh to trade play in these places and and to take things um to take things as a fighter as person from these places is fantastic what kind of spurred that on though what what made you want to go and just say right I'm just going go do this okay it started off for me Dave when I won the IMA I I got in contact with Z mucho he's a ima world champion Portuguese fighter and uh I learned a lot from him just with his journey when he lost a few times at the imaps and eventually then he became world champion I got in contact with him and I wanted to train with him I decided to go to Portugal I went there and it was a great experience and then after that I just kind of talk to myself you know what you should go travel travel the world and uh just see like uh what's like out there see what your levels like and how far away are you from like UFC fighters the pros like I really have learned a lot just from being to those places and it won't be the last places I'll go to I'll definitely be to Thailand other races Etc I think next year I'll probably be in Thailand maybe Sweden again I don't know but uh oh I definitely think uh it's good to put yourself out there and get out your comfort zone and just train with UFC fighters any Fighters Pro Fighters Etc you know and it definitely has boosted my confidence to see where I am where sorry where I am compared to these Fighters you know yeah like that you'll take you'll learn a little bit off every country you go to every every uh person that you spar with and and it keeps it fresh as well what's your biggest takeaway from from having these like mini camps I don't want mini camps but having these training breaks in these different countries what's if someone was to say why should I do it what what has bet what way has it benefited you the best in in in your personal opinion like like going back to what I said Dave it's boosed my confidence and it's made me realize how good I have at home and how like you know how good I am as well because you know you're with the same guys all the time you know your game sometimes you'll get humbled sometimes you'll humble them sometimes you'll feel like not that good but then when you go to these other countries you Spar some of these high level guys you truly do realize how good you are but you also realize what you need to improve on and that's definitely what I've noticed from being to all these different countries you know there's NE there's a lot of positives compared to negatives and uh it's just the main thing is I think it just makes you realize how good you are and how good you have it as well at home and I truly do believe I have H one of the best teams around and uh I genuinely believe just from the IMs and training here I have a bright future ahead of me so that's what I really say about it yeah I I believe you obviously have a bright future like said your year has been fantastic and there's been a lot of fantastic fighters on the Irish scenes and and you're one of the years I've kind of looked at and went especially like when we talked before what you kind of come to and and to come to this and and the way you've come back is is just fantastic um it's going to be really good fight this weekend what way are you approaching this do you have a game plan or you just going to go in feel it out have you looked at what he's good at where you think he might be able to capitalize or would you just wa fight uh look I'm just going to be me I'm gonna go in there I'm going to do my thing and I think I'm going to put on a great performance like uh like I said to has nothing but respect for Dominic roads and uh look I'm going to put on a good performance so look made the best man win on the night and uh I wish him a how you say I wish him a good H training camp and hope he comes in fit and healthy for this fight 100% And and we obviously the fight coming up weight cutting because obviously it's at slightly higher weight it's super lightweight I believe um do you you usually stay around way anyways don't you or if you have much to cut or or what way is that looking for you this week uh I only have like a 4.5 to go like look not that much there obviously had hard way Cuts in the past like not like too hard like professionals but like you know just with dieting maybe water loading a little bit but I feel good for this one and Dominic is I've never seen him in person but I think he's like the same size as me maybe a little bit smaller a little bigger I don't know but I think this will be good for the both of us because we don't have to go through the stress of cutting a lot away so I think this why this match is uh going to be so intriguing and be great for the B of us good experience for the both of us you know yeah so do I I think because there isn't a huge way cut you're both going to come in feeling a little bit better than if you had to shed the extra couple of kilos or the extra couple of pounds and like I said you're coming in there you're not underestimating he's coming in there with a point Pro I think this fight could potentially be fireworks it always is a pleasure to watch you fight and I can't wait to see it this weekend I'm going to let you go so you can go back inside and start getting uh some warmth back into your bones is there anything you want to say before you go look obviously uh thanks my team SBG all my training Partners uh Andre Muk that Ukrainian guy who's living with me he he's benefited me hugely since coming to Ireland and uh he's making his Pro debut in uh a week and a half literally the weekend after me so a big massive shout out to him because uh I know he's gonna Smash It and uh yeah that's all I got to say and uh look I'm looking forward to the weekend and uh you know on another G performance so yeah know let's go yeah I'm looking forward to to seeing it again and then seeing how your year year ends it's going to be a pleasure it's been a pleasure to talk to you as always it's going to be a pleasure seeing you fight again as always and I will see you there on Sunday yeah perfect thank you very much Dave
