Fansview MMA catches up with Fou Fou Fares during IMMAF World Championships week in Uzbekistan, where he has been with Team Ireland for two days, expects to learn his opponent the night of the interview, and fights the next day. Fares says he has been in MMA for about ten years, feels the best he ever has physically and mentally, and is focused on winning world gold and representing Ireland. He discusses deliberately strengthening his mindset—including reading his first book, The Champions Mindset, which his brother gave him—and argues elite fighters must train the mental side, which he personally rates as at least eighty percent of MMA versus twenty percent physical. He says he is the reigning European champion but is not dwelling on that status; he wants to prove his level at this tournament whether or not he becomes world champion. He describes life as an Erasmus business student living in Alicante from September through July, training at Il Toro gym there while Il Toro himself is based in Madrid, with continued support from his brother and SBG Cork and head coach Liam, who traveled to Uzbekistan with Abnu and the rest of Team Ireland alongside Amy Scully. He closes by promising to bring gold back to Ireland and thanking SBG Cork, teammates, Il Toro in Spain, friends, and family.

[Music] okay so it's another International fight week for Mr farz H who's going to be over in ubekistan for the Worlds at the minute uh we all know who he is we all seen his last performance and El he got the gold at at the last IMA so how are you how is ubekistan when did you land talk to us about uh just being in the country and being a part of the team at the minute and thank you for your time thank you thank you for having first of all uh is becking stand has been has been great surprisingly um I didn't know what to expect coming here but I've been here for two days um uh tonight I actually find out who I'm going to be fighting and I have my first fight tomorrow uh and honestly I'm I'm feeling so good I'm just I'm just ready to perform ready to do what I do ready to do what I've been doing the past 10 years yeah and like that obviously coming away a goal from the last one and and the performances you've had on Irish soil like like we were just talking about before you came on like I felt your last performance was was a master class and it shows the levels you've grown what kind of confidence are you going into this one with I've really worked out my my mental side of the game I think with with this with MMA you you've got to be bulletproof physically and mentally and I I've actually believe it or not I'm I've read my first ever book I've read I've it's my first ever book I was reading and I think it benefited me it's called The Champions mindset a book my brother gave me Avenue um it really did one of 100% like open my eye and and see the other side of stuff of the mental side of it but of course um I'm really confident as I am always going into fights and I'm I'm really ready to bring gold home to Ireland yeah and like that you said with the mental side and I I've noticed how mature you've got with the fighting and and the mental side of it do you think the mental side is is overlooked by Fighters sometimes because obviously you train the whole kind of thing is is mostly physical when you go training it's physically physical do you think it's overlooked like the mindset that you have to train your mind you have to read these things and because it for self-belief and stuff like that you think people need do you think it's overlooked by some Fighters is what I'm asking basically for sure yeah definitely I think if you want to be the best of the best like the best of the best and the peak level you can and be the best fighter you can 100% you have to work at your mental side of the game uh the mental side of the game is for me personally I'd look at it as at least 80% of MMA the physical side is 20% um once you have a strong mindset and it's bulletproof and and you're in your right Zone you're thinking well you you've every every everyone that you need behind you and everyone's going forward you you're you're you're winning regardless like you're going to win regardless and I think this this this time I've I've been trained really hard mentally physically everything honestly um this is the best I've ever felt uh physically and mentally and I gu guarantee you I will be bringing back gold for for Ireland in five days time these next five days will change the way people think of me I'm currently the European Champion I don't even think of that at this moment in time like these I'm currently European Champion I don't focus on on this status or anything I'm I'm here to to show my levels and show how good I am regardless of me becoming the world champion or not is obviously my my number one choice but I want to show how good I am in this in this comp coming up yeah no and I like the confidence and I like that the confidence is built through years and years of trading and and what you've had to do to get here and like that you can youve see I've seen it and everyone's seen it get better and better but you're obviously you're over there with Team Ireland there's a couple of usuals you've got Amy Scully who's over there as well what's it like when you go together as a team you're doing team activities I hear you're going to a UFC gym later as well like life must just be like just so good right now like it looks it looks good behind you I must say better than mine as as we can see um hakan did really top up it's good to be like it's always an honor to represent team Ireland like even being on the squad and like just playing that flag I really do represent team IR team Ireland proudly like I it's a it's a huge honor for Honor for me to just be here in general never mind competing but as I've won goal I'm going to bring back goal for team Maryland that's my my biggest thing yeah yeah no 100% And and obviously if you during the summer me and you talked to you were going to go to Il tor's gym talk to us about what you're doing at the moment because you've been in Spain for a bit haven't you yeah exactly so at the moment I am an international student in alante I'm I'm studying in college in alante um I'm a business student I'm doing Rasmus and while that I'm going to be in alante I've been in alante living there from September and I'm there till July so while that I've been training in ilor gym climate of course he's not there personally because he has own Jim in Madrid but I've been getting some top quality training with these guys these guys are killers out there um I really do feel the best I have ever felt um and of course getting training and helping my brother SBG Cork and and my my head coach Liam I I do really have two solid J behind me here um I've been it's it's the best I've really felt that's good and that's good and and abanu is actually over there which is Li over there which as well for the the imfs yeah myself Liam and the rest of Team Ireland it's really I'm I'm really grateful for for abue and Liam I really do put up true true a lot of stuff um but I'm I'm so grateful for the two of them having my back and always compete like I'm in ristan right now like Liam and ab had to travel all the way to his of course Liam's the the the head coach all stuff with Ireland but regardless I I'm I'm getting these guys to to fly over to usbekistan with me and put a lot of work into into this like I I say this all the time to my friends because my friends don't really see this like I'm the guy fighting I'm the guy winning these gold medals but I really do have a huge team behind me and an example of that is is my my brother and my head coach like and I more obviously friends and family and stuff but I do have a solid team that pushed me and and that's how that's that's why it I get so much motivation and Confidence from this I I know I've the right people with me yeah and that you do and we spoke previously about relationship with you and your brother and you and Li as well and and how tight it is and and like how you help each other as well and how good it is to have a sibling in MMA but no it's going to be a fantastic week for you U obviously you're looking to bring home gold again uh we'd love to see i' love to see it personally I think he can do it I think your confidence is skyh high your skill is just getting better and better as you go on and it's been a pleasure to watch you kind of grow after the past couple of years but look I know you're busy this week so I'm going to let you go I want to thank you so much for your time best of scale is there anything you want to say before you go Ireland I'm I'm bringing back that that gold medal watch me these five days are gonna change my life I'm gonna be the world champion and regarding to my team I just want to say thank you tog Court my teammates and a shout out to climate in in Spain for for all the good great training there my friends my family everyone let's bring this
