Combat Confidential interviews Vicky Ochala immediately after she won the belt as main event winner at Artemis Fight Night 1. She describes using visualization and a mental coach through camp—including red zone cardio—so she stepped into the ring without nerves and felt the bout matched what she had rehearsed mentally. She felt strong on distance and movement despite a typical cautious first round, and she prepared for opponent Rachel as a pressure fighter while working boxing footwork and slipping on the back foot. She praises Artemis as an inspiring all-women show, credits Mel for smooth production and strong media coverage (echoing Owen), and calls the atmosphere and young female turnout amazing. Looking ahead, she hopes for another title fight in December as a possible third title of the year, with the opponent still being sought, and plans to stay active while she reflects on improvements. She closes with encouragement for women to train for themselves, not only to compete, and thanks Team KF Martial Arts, Rory Oconor (S&C), Kevin Hendrick, Soul Food Hy Tropics, Sort Your Socials, and her wider support circle.

Go back. Let's go. Uh, artist fight night. I have here Miss Vicki Oala. >> Ochala. >> Cool. I screw names up all the time. Um, but look, uh, check it out, man. Congratulations. Look at that. New champ. >> How's that feel? >> Great. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I was visualizing it for the past few weeks. So, >> I was like I was imagining it. >> Yeah. Know that's a that's a real thing, you know. Uh the whole visualization just, you know, um putting yourself in the moment >> and then just running yourself through all the steps, through all the different possibilities. Um it's a thing. My first fight, that's what I did. and uh you know like everything I had thought of or excuse me the way the fight went was exactly you know I had events that I had already thought of in my head so it wasn't anything new to me and I wasn't uh you know like scared or nervous in the moment so >> 100% I actually used to struggle with >> fighting the mental side of fighting and I used to get so nervous but uh I was working with a mental coach for this camp um and it was all about visualization and staying present in the moment and >> kind of meditating through the nerves cuz ner nerves are so natural but you just it's all about hate channel it. So, I really took control of that this fight and I felt it in the ring. Like I stepped into the ring and I didn't feel nervous. I was just like I was here before. I was here in my mind, you know? I was thinking about this in training. I was doing red zone cardio. I was thinking about this moment. >> Yeah. So, I felt like it was just another stone and another thing to do was to get the belt. How >> How did you feel your fight went? Like how how did you feel about the fight? >> I felt great. Um, the first round I always feel a bit iffy, but cuz you're checking the person out, but I actually I felt really good. I felt like my movements and my distance was good. Um, I knew Rachel was a pressure fighter, so it was all about kind of I knew I was going to be on the back foot, but >> yeah, >> I was also working with uh on my boxing a lot, so my footwork, you know, slipping shots, moving. [Applause] [Music] >> Sorry everyone. Um, the DJ unplugged my unplugged me here. Um, but look, if any, uh, potential sponsors out there want to supply me with a battery pack so I can uh, be independent, that'd be fantastic. Uh, something I'm trying to something to try to have to be completely self sustainable here so I don't have like that happen. That Sorry, that really annoyed the out of me cuz he knew I was using that. Um, anyway, sorry. >> Sure. He didn't play my walk out song. So, >> did he not? >> No, he put off the best bit. He just played like 30 seconds of it until it kicked in and then he lowered it down. So, >> that's annoying. >> Yeah. >> My first fight was like that. They didn't even play the song that I had picked or some >> Yeah. >> wild thing. >> I thought I was like, "What is this? Why are they playing?" And anyways, walk out >> amateur. Anyway, um >> listen, we're in her home town, so I was just like, "Yeah, you know, fair enough." >> Right on. Um okay, so look, uh Artemis, this is, you know, Ireland's first promotion that's all women. >> Yeah. >> What's it like, you know, being not only on the card, but being, you know, the main event? Yeah, it's actually it's amazing like being here today. The atmosphere was absolutely amazing. It was so wonderful seeing so many young girls and so many females that want to fight um and look up to other fighters as well. Like I just love the idea of the younger girls having role models to look up to, you know, whether they're amateur, professional, but it's amazing. I love what Mel did. Like it was it was actually so inspiring as well as a fighter. It was just like, yeah, she was brilliant. She's she's amazing. Like I I think everyone thinks the same. You know, this show was so smooth. It was one of the best Brandon shows ever. And like Owen said, it was the media coverage for it was amazing as well, which sometimes shows fall down on. And then, you know, the lack for sure. >> But she really made sure that was the thing as well. So, no, she was brilliant. It was an amazing show and it was amazing to be on it. >> Agreed. Um, okay. So, like what's you're pretty active this year? Yeah. >> You know, like what's uh what's next for you? What are you what are you planning on for the year? >> Um hoping another title fight in December. >> Finish the title. Finish the year. Third title this year. Maybe finish it on a tree. But um >> with who? What? >> Unsure yet, but we're looking. >> Okay. >> We're looking. So hopefully that's on the cards. But definitely just keep fighting, you know. Um every fight's an experience. Win or lose, experience. >> Absolutely. >> You know, you always learn something. So just want to keep fighting, keep active. >> Absolutely. Yeah. >> Um, you know, so like speaking of that experience and learning, um, you know, what's one thing you're you're taking away with this that maybe you want to work on for your next fight? >> Um, definitely a few things I need to work on. I need I need to reflect on the fight first. >> All right. No problem. No problem. No problem. No problem. All right. Uh, well, here we'll leave it with this. Um, give all the young women out there, not even just women in general, like give them like just uh, you know, some uh, words of wisdom on, you know, kind of your your evening here and then combat sports in general and like how positive positive it is uh, you know, for women in this country. >> Yeah, I think do it for you, do it for yourself. Um, if you're thinking about it, just do it. It's so much fun. You don't need to compete. You don't need to be active and fighting. You just need to you just need to show up for yourself and >> I think that will kind of start the ball rolling and >> yeah the rest is the rest is going to happen in its own time but definitely just do it for yourself. >> Show up for yourself. >> Right on. Look um I appreciate your time. Uh thank you very much. >> Sorry about uh getting cut there in the middle. But uh look until next time and I know there will be a next time. >> Can I give a shout out to my sponsors? >> Yeah. Yeah. Oh and you you were meant to mention your gym there. >> Don't forget team KF. team KF the most important h my sponsor. So most importantly Rory who does my SNC Rory Oconor um Kevin Hendrick keeps my body healthy and whenever I have an injury he keeps me yeah keeps me in shape. >> Awesome. >> Um soul food hy tropics and sort your socials as well. All the amazing people in my life. I'm so grateful for the team that I'm building out now as a fighter and you know they're constantly in my life supporting me and my dream. So yeah, >> ask my mom, my coach, my boyfriends, everyone. >> Awesome. Awesome. Uh, great. Yeah. Thank you very much. And, uh, until next time. >> Yeah. >> I don't know what to do with my hands. >> I'm going to give you a hug anyways. Keep on hoging bases. >> Bring it in. Bring it up. >> Thank you for having me. >> Absolutely. All right. Uh, again, congratulations. And, uh, till next time. >> Thanks. [Music]
