Combat Confidential interviews Ethan Lewis shortly after he won a bantamweight belt at GFC 2 - GladiatEire Fighting Championships 2. He describes mixed emotions after a split decision he felt could have gone either way, praises his opponent’s toughness and Irish fighting spirit, and says calf kicks left his leg badly hurt—possibly a serious ankle or shin injury—so he plans to go to hospital after the interview. He recounts a chaotic fight week: losing his luggage at the airport with a teammate, struggling to find clean food, and eating a fried chicken burger before still winning. He frames himself as beating top UK amateurs by narrow margins, cites taking another opponent’s 5-0 record and an earlier 3-0 opponent’s undefeated mark, and states he has 13 amateur fights while aiming to stay busy. Near-term plans include a FightStar card in England around 20 December 2025 if his leg allows; otherwise healing and targeting a Cage Ries Academy title next year while teammate Dardell holds an interim belt. Longer term he wants a fourth amateur title, more activity in 2026, roughly two more years as an amateur before turning pro, and ideally IMMAF worlds experience before going professional.

All right, everyone. Welcome back to Gladiator Fighting Championship. I have here Mr. Ethan Lewis. Um, first of all, congratulations on that belt there. How How does that feel? >> Yeah, thanks very much. Um, yeah, mixed emotions. Um, obviously so happy to get the belt. my third amateur title. Um, definitely I think that's got to be the toughest challenge of my career, of my amateur career so far. I mean, I knew he was going to be really tough. I knew he'd bring the fly bring the fight to me. It went to the split decision and luckily, yeah, I got my hand raised. Um, it was one of them ones where if it did go the other way, >> yeah, I could I couldn't have complained too much cuz it was just so tight. There was nothing in it. There was really nothing in it. It was it was a really close fight. It went right down to the wire. I think we both reversed each other to the cage. We both hit each other with big shots. Um he's really tough, really strong. A little bit stronger than I thought he'd be to be honest with you. Um and yeah, he he was definitely tough. He had that Irish fighting spirit 100%. And yeah, I was just happy to put it put on a good fight, put on a good fight for the fans, try and entertain the fans. And yeah, I managed to come away with the win, come away with the belt, and that's all that matters really. >> Right on. So, it was a split decision like what were you thinking like in your head like you know when they when they raise your hand? Were you like obvious like you know you said and you were thinking kind of go either way but like what were you thinking like when they actually raise your hand? >> Um yeah I I obviously whenever I hear split I check my hands you know am I red tape or am I blue tape red tape so I was just waiting for red. Yeah, >> I was just praying they don't call out blue, they called out red. Um, and then yeah, I was just like, "Thank God I got the win." Um, soon as I got the win, that adrenaline dump here. Um, my leg right now, you can't see it on this camera, but my leg I'm feeling it. >> They had me, they got me on all the painters now. And I think I'll be straight off the hospital after this. But >> you were having a good time with the gas and air back there. >> Yeah. Yeah. I was trying to get a bit more of the gas and air, but they cut me off, man. and they [ __ ] said I had too much of it. But um >> explain what exactly happened to your ankle there. >> Yeah, he he was just chipping away at the calf. Chipping away at the calf. And it wasn't necessarily massive shots to be honest. I thought >> I felt like I was checking them to be honest. But with them calf kicks, they're not like the low kicks. They they set in after. And I've had it against other guys before where it's set in after. But he must have done something to my chin, whether he's bruised it bad or a hairline fracture or whatever. But one thing's for sure, Owen's a tough fighter. Um, that's another undefeated guy who I've taken his one now. Um, yeah, both last guy who I thought was 3-0, took his one, and he was another really tough fighter. Now Owen, um, he was 5-0 going into this, just managed to take his O. So clearly, you know, I'm fighting the top, very top amateurs in the UK, man. And I'm managing to come out on top by the skin of my teeth, but honestly, this fight week, the amount of stressful [ __ ] that's happened. Um, I lost a bag as I was getting to the airport, so that was in my head. Uh, >> uh, I literally weighed in, done my video weigh in, got on the flight. Um, and while we were queuing up in security with with my teammate Liam, we've I've lost my bag. That was a stress. You know, we're sorting that out all out yesterday. Um, couldn't get hold of any uh any clean food last night. So, ended up having to have a [ __ ] uh fried chicken burger as my dinner. So, like everything that could have gone wrong went wrong and I still managed to win. And that's what I told myself a few days ago. I said, "No matter what, even if everything goes wrong, I'm going to come here. I'm going to win and I'm going to dominate." I didn't quite dominate like I wanted to, but when you're fighting the best amateurs in the UK, sometimes them fights do go to the wire. And Owens was sure one of the best amateurs in the UK. I mean, I think he had like seven or eight novice fights before he even went amateur. So, you know, he's got a massive a load of experience and, you know, in the grappling he was great. In the striking he was great everywhere. You know, he was my match, but I just I knew that I weren't coming here to lose. I had to get this belt. I'm undefeated now in tight fights, three and 0. Um you won my last four fights, four in a row. So, I just want to keep this theme going. Um, I wanted to get another fight on Fight Star back in England in um on December 20th in 13 days to be honest with my leg. The way it's looking, it's not looking likely, but um you know, yeah, we'll let ourselves Yeah, let myself heal up a little bit most likely. Cage Ries Academy next year. We'll go back to that. Go and get the Crewies Academy um the belt. My teammate Dardell, he's he's the sort of interim champion at the minute. So, let him do his thing and then we'll figure out, you know, either like another belt or whatever. But, um, yeah, let him do his thing and then when the belt does become available, I'll be fighting for it, I'm sure. Oh, yeah. And go and get my fourth amateur title. That's the goal. Next year, I want to get more active than ever. >> Make it [ __ ] another seven, eight wins next year. Why not, you know? Active. What what do you what's uh how long do you think or what more do you think you need to do before you consider a pro career? >> I'm fighting top amateurs now and I'm beating top amateurs, which are two of the things I need to do, but I need to be finishing them top amateurs and I need to when I when I'm in training, etc., I need to when guys are coming in who are top amateurs, I need to be, you know, whitewashing them really. And I'm not quite at that level yet. I'm only young. I'm I'm 21. So I don't turn 22 till March. Um I've got plenty of time. I feel like another two years in the amateur ranks just fighting the top amateurs. Why not? You know, >> there's loads of really really good amateurs who who I'm still yet to fight. I had a canceled fight with you now Maddie. Um he's one of the top guys out of Italy. Unfortunately lost his last fight against another tough fighter, but I'd love to run that one back. I was meant to be fighting Hamid Safi yesterday in in Italy. He's I think the second ranked flyweight in the in the whole of Europe, the whole continent. He was meant to be moving up to bantamweight. He wanted to do a same day weigh in. I'd happily fight him again with a day before weighin. Um yeah, there's so many top top ranked amateurs that I'm yet to fight and I just want to fight everyone amateur. I'd like to do IMATHs. You know, it's not a uh it's not the end of the world if I don't do it, but I'd love to go and fight IMATHs and go and, you know, be an IMF world champion before I do go pro. I you know, I've had 13 fights now at amateur. I I can see another at least 10 15 fights. You know, I just want to get active, be fighting every week. >> Yeah, that's that's very active and that's that's tons of experience that you'd be getting there. So, that's that would definitely benefit your uh pro career there. >> Yes. But, um, here, look, uh, I know I don't want to keep you standing too much longer there. So, look, I I appreciate your time. Congratulations, your victory again. And, uh, look, I hope to talk to you again. Um, and I I'll definitely be seeing you, uh, hopefully soon. >> Yeah. Cheers for that, mate. Thank you very much. >> Yes, sir. Right over, brother. All right. Thank you. >> Cool. Heat. Heat. N.
