Fansview MMA pre-fight interview with Jack Carville ahead of his Cage Conflict XVIII bout that weekend (published 30 October 2024). Carville says he feels good in fight week after a tough camp at Fight Academy Ireland, where he expects to show clear improvements in footwork, striking, and composure compared with his earlier outings. He must cut 1.8 kilo, which he describes as an easy cut, and outlines a simple fight-week rhythm: train Monday and Wednesday (last session Wednesday), relax Thursday, cut weight Friday, and compete Saturday. He praises FAI’s atmosphere and support—from figures including Paul Hughes and Damien—and says he joined in July 2018 after playing Gaelic football and hearing about Fight Academy Ireland through friends who watched UFC. He loves Cage Conflict XVIII’s chaotic home-show atmosphere and plans to stick to his own game plan against an unnamed debut opponent tied to Henry, James, and Sean’s team, rather than overthinking what the other corner might do. Looking ahead, he is young, trusts Sean and Pat’s guidance, and is open to perhaps two more novice bouts before turning amateur. He also speaks about MMA giving him structure, confidence, and a work ethic away from shortcuts others take.

Okay, so I'm here with Jack Kavanagh out of F A I. So we're fighting this weekend on Cage Conflict, a fantastic show as always. So it's fight week. Thank you very much for joining me. I really appreciate it. How are you? How are you feeling? Fight week's here. Yeah, feeling good bro, you know. I like already showing the improvements I've made this camp. You know, been a tough camp, but at the end of the end I just smash this guy come Saturday. And obviously with going into a fight, do you cut much weight? Like what's your kind of weight cut? Like is it heavy or is it small? 1.8 kilo I have to cut for it, so I'm feeling good though. So that's actually easy going into into a fight week. Easy going, yeah. So what does a fight week look like for you? Just just relax, get the mind calm, you know, get the flow of the game plan going into it, you know. Training on the Monday and Wednesday, and Wednesday's the last training session and Thursday relax, Friday cut the weight, Saturday show up, get the win, smash this guy. So I'm looking forward to the fight. Yeah, and as a fighter with like training camp you're flat out you're flat out. How hard is it come fight week to just kind of switch off and start doing these little little things? Is it hard to switch off or do you know that you need that kind of rest coming up to the fight? Sometimes you need that rest, but sometimes your mind you have two sides of your mind that play tricks on you like, you know, maybe you take a day off here, but like you can't have that like, you know, if you want to get to where you want to be you have to work your ass off like so. I've done this this training camp. Got a few last stuff, so I'm just ready. Ready to go, like. Yeah. Yeah, and obviously you're in a fantastic gym. You're in F A I. I can't imagine the camps are easy there. You see all the people around you. What's it like being in the gym like that with obviously like you look at even the amateurs that are going pro the likes of Damien. Fantastic. You've got Paul Hughes. You've got all these guys. Talk to us about the gym and and what the the means to you. It means a lot to me, you know. I I came in there really don't nothing really thinking you're going to do much, but you know what I'm saying, like you know, I just wanted a lot of it and I feel like they're all saying they're like, you know, they'll help you. You want me to help you be better like so really probably say represent Fight Academy. Yeah, and they're everywhere now at the minute, but obviously to get to where you are now, you had to start somewhere. What kind of led you down the path of MMA and and why choose MMA and and why did you choose Fight Academy? Um oh, all my mates were all used for MMA fans like so we all used to watch UFC, but I didn't really know it was like a place where you could actually go and train in. Till everyone started talking about Fight Academy Ireland, so I played Gaelic for a while, so it's just like when I give this a try and I've never looked back since. And what was your first day in the gym like going in there cuz I would I would presume someone going in fresh is it you would assume it's going to be intimidating, but it's quite the opposite I found. Yeah, oh it is, you know, like I don't maybe you're going to get bothered here, but like everyone's sound so they are like, you know, everyone sound so kind of like to be fair, you know. Just give like I loved it from day one like I started in I started like in July like 2018 three years something like that. I haven't looked back since like I've I've loved every minute of it, so. Yeah, it's it's a fantastic gym and and obviously you've got Cage Conflict the show. What do you make of the show? I think the show the atmosphere is crazy. It's a good show. It's a good show like uh What's it like walking out into the like what's it like being in that atmosphere as a fighter? Oh yeah, you love every second of it like, you know, you'd be nervous or sort of walking in like but as soon as you get in there like the nerves go, but as soon as you get that support behind you like, you know, you're feeling like so you're you know what I mean? Feeling like I love it and the damage. Yeah, it's I love I just think it's absolute bedlam and I just love the it like but it's like controlled chaos. It's like cuz cuz it's like a home show there's so much support there. I just I just think it's fantastic, but We The guy you're fighting is obviously he fights under the likes of Henry and James and Sean like he hasn't fight yet. How do you game plan for that or do you have any obviously Henry's not going to give anything away since his first fight or do you just stick to your own game plan? I just need to be able to remind myself about what he's thinking, you know. I'm not thinking about what I'm going to do and do to him, you know. If he wants to stand with me, he can stand with me like, you know. I'm confident enough. If he wants to wrestle with me I like to wrestle with him like, you know. It's kind of club show or something like that, but you can have one club show and think you're the best, but once you get in there like you'll really see what I mean middle of it. I'm really smashing this guy. So. Yeah. I like that. Do you think it's important for amateur fighters to like stick to their own game plan and not worry so much about what someone else is going to do and kind of establish your own kind of style? Yeah, yeah. You have to You can't go in there and be like, "Oh, what happens if he if he starts kickboxing me and I I he's better than me kickboxing and I and I I thought for it I just want to take him down, but then he he's a better wrestler than me and he takes me down, you know." You have to stick to your game plan, you know. You can't be thinking about what they're doing or what they're better at. You just have to think about like I'm better than this guy and I'm going to win. So. That's all like, you know. What is And obviously you've got the confidence going into this fight. Um this is probably going to finish finish off your year um cuz there's so many shows kind of bundled together at the end. What's your plans for obviously you plan on finishing this guy and then going forward you have a a number of fights you'd like to get next year or like you just going to take it fight at a time? Take Take it as it goes like whatever. If Sean or Pat tell me to do anything, I'm happy to do it like I'm happy to do whatever they do, you know. Get maybe two more novice sets and maybe go amateur like, you know. Whatever. I'm happy to do them. Still young like, so. I'm happy to do whatever like, you So, yeah. Yeah, cuz obviously you've got a really good team behind you Sean though like Adam Pat like you said um obviously you trust whole everything they say and when it's time to go amateur and and whatever. So, Yeah, 100% you're just going to stick with what they say and like that with this fight coming up, do you like to like obviously, you've had fights before. And do you like you said you've had major improvements. So, are we going to see a much different fighter than we would have seen in your last fight? Can you see the visible improvements camp to camp? Yeah, I I I didn't really see like improvement like more in the footwork more like, you know, my punches, my kicking, setting everything up my own for my getting the call on my feet work or panicking. I don't want to be very calm even if I'm not going to be calm, you know. I'm just I'm ready to go and show my improvements. That's what I mean. I'm a big different fighter than I was from the tiger fighting and last case contract fight. So, I'm ready to go. And how does that feel for you as a fighter to see those improvements as they kind of go on and on? Like does that fill you full of confidence when you see the the leaps in in levels? Yeah, it gives you gives you confidence. Gives you a belief. So, does you know, you always have to believe in yourself. If you don't believe in yourself, what's the point of doing it like? So, yeah, I'm really happy with the improvements I've made and I'm where I've come from, you know. A lot of people want to go down me or apart from the drugs or the other It's not for me like, you know. I want to be a hard worker and I want to earn the stuff I work for. That's why I'm on it. Yeah, and and do you feel the likes of MMA like I've I've talked to loads of people and I think MMA do you do you think that brings structure and discipline into your personal life as well? Like what do you think it does for you personally? Yeah, it gives you a game mentality like, you know, like sometimes you know, you you go our places but MMA is a perfect Everyone should be getting into MMA like, you know what I mean? It's supposed to be like, you know. 100% it helps you. If not it helps everyone else it helps everyone like so it does. Helps you to become a better person. It's helped me become a better person. So, yeah. 100% Yeah, cuz I find MMA people in MMA and most combat sports are are probably the nicest people you can meet because of the discipline, the honor. That's every walk of life. There's always 1% that are but usually they get found out in the gym fairly quick and a lot of gyms won't uh So, obviously this is your journey. Only you can dictate the way it goes. If you worry about what he says, she said, then that's all outside noise that you can't control. You just stick to doing you. Yeah, no. I I love your attitude. I love your confidence and I I'm going to love watching you fight as well. I've been to many showcase conflicts. They're fantastic. I'm going to let you go, but is there anything you want to say before you go or anyone you want to shout out? And thank you again for your time cuz I know it's precious. Fight week. No, thank you very much. I can't wait to see this fight this weekend. I appreciate you coming on and I
