MMA In Depth episode 25 features Irish amateur flyweight Gary Rooney tracing his path from Dublin’s flats through SBG Bluebell, where he started around age 14 on opening day and was hooked by his first jiu-jitsu class with coach Roddy and his brother Darren. Rooney describes competing early—including a humbling loss to a girl when no boys were at his weight—and building an amateur MMA record of 17 fights with a seven-fight win streak at the time of recording. He reflects on his first MMA loss to Ronan Butler after Irish Nationals success, IMMAF European and World experiences (bronze at worlds after wins over Dylan Doherty and Ibrahim and a semifinal loss to Daniel from Kazakhstan), and a maturing mindset toward opponents and performance. He highlights community support from the flats at shows like his fight with Jamie Abbott, Richie’s long mentorship and corner work, plans to turn pro at flyweight after gaining size, multiple amateur titles across Virtus, Cage Legacy Fighting Championship, and Yok, and wanting to be remembered simply as Gary Rooney from the flats who gave his best.

[Music] foreign [Music] FlyAway in the UK and Ireland uh oil enforced in Ireland and the UK um he beat the number one you he beat the number one at the time uh and your your career is just you're on a 75 win streak but to get to here bring us back to the very start the roots of Gary Rooney lost that yeah I was actually only thinking of the show you could look like we did a blade now probably stay out there before it even I knew what UFC was and I don't like that just competitive like I was actually thinking about like there's this step basically like just a little platform of concrete just before when you walk into the Big Green Door the flat slick of muy block and me and my brother and our friend Sean born anonymity blade and trying to relax basically like if you're pushed off and you're full came off the step yeah whatever and then there was like uh when I stand on paper thing so realistically I've always kind of pain in the more of the grappling in the boxing and now I mean the street commercial ad so I'd say like Yeah from a very young age I was always like I don't know how boys are boys or anything like they like the Lesser and they like the [ __ ] free so I'd say as a kid just being a kid you know what I mean kids going there are stuck on their phones nowadays so being an actual kid probably a diet like that but then I got into a minani's father Billy was a boxer so I got into Arbor Hill I I don't even [ __ ] mention a team with bro to be honest but like I was only a kid running around the gym taking the piss and then let's say I was about eight or nine when I was doing that and then after that then uh I left it in or let's say I left that noise and then about 14 then I started to kind of there and then now you get kind of self-conscious don't you think like I don't know how to free what happens if someone reach the ads on me so I wanted to uh learn how to fight and my auntie Paul a new party and then in SBG and then [ __ ] I went to the opening day in Bluebell open air HQ open the nice Road and then that was it then when I went to the open day I signed up and then That's it man I just never look back man yeah so that's where the force to add from you yeah so you went from boxing debt so I've never heard you mention the boxing yeah like it's not I wouldn't say no box and I mean people like I Java books no another box they just showed up to the gym for like three weeks and that was it no I mean I told everyone yeah yeah I told people at Foxborough I did now and now we don't tell anybody our books okay it's only like seven people that I watch it um so from there like once you got you said you like the grappling aside most people want to go in they like the the strike and stuff like when you went in did you just fall in love with you straight away tell people what shits is like that might not understand that yeah yeah so when I got in today when I first started like it was oh I want to learn [ __ ] tornado kicks and [ __ ] you know what I mean I want to learn all that kill stuff but the very first session was a Jiu-Jitsu session where coach on ready he took the teens class at the time and there the force Mill was from Total and my brother darling I got into me brother Darren he was actually forced to join oh he was like a shorty kid it was like uh I didn't want to join by myself in case the awkwardness of having but I asked somebody to do a technique I was scared of no I mean like everybody everybody feels the same you know what I mean like so he was no different and uh so me brother was forced to join it and then he's a bit bigger than me he's younger than me but he's a bit bigger not a bit bigger is he bigger than me he's huge but uh the first class was total position and the person has like a body lock on you and they were citro so it's a basic move that if you joined Jujitsu within the force movement you learned but that had he held on the easier it was for me to escape and just from that moment on when I was like this is magical man and that was it from the very first class when I didn't I was just like this is amazing man it was just so blown away but he the more he held on the easier it was like the more you draw with a resistant struggle and really hold me it was easier when he was limp and he wasn't there it was harder so it was just straight away I was like this is this is pretty cool man here and then from the first class I was like yeah I'm hooked man I'm hooked yeah no that's Telly that's telling how most people like that when they go to a gym like you said you were shy especially at that young age yeah 14 14 yeah but then when you got there what what was perception versus reality because in my experience James and MMA gyms and what you think they were like you see like the likes in here key for Crosby right you see his bicycle man that lasts then you come in and the guys are like probably nice people what was your like that was your perception what was the reality then once you got more comfortable yeah it was just a bunch of [ __ ] like cool dudes you just trained man it was never like uh I guess the the box and gym environment is a little bit different that's kind of like the survival of the fittest almost and in Jiu Jitsu and in MMA it's kind of like nerds not a man that's real geeky people and it's like uh even with Roddy Roddy made her so comfortable he was joking with me and like it's kind of like he just made a normal not I mean he made it as in like I wasn't like skill know what I mean so it wasn't like I was afraid to ask a question and I was afraid to I was like oh he's like some big boss or we could never ask a question or say I don't understand like he always made me comfortable and yeah he just always made it warm if that makes sense not I mean I never felt out of place and same with everybody else who was kind of just like it just never felt like what we were doing was fighting no I mean because fighting in your head it always feels like such a violent thing it never felt like violence it always felt like a game if that makes sense you know what I mean I always felt like it just felt like playing the UFC game just felt like he would do a million he would do a move and queen Elite that you know what I mean yeah no that's mental way going forward obviously you went to it was comfortable in gym did you realize when you first went that you wanted to compete or is that something that came with time now when you from the start that I wanted to compete like the very first competition was probably only two or three months after I joined there was no boys my way so I had to fight a girl and she bit the bollocks help me so I had no excuse it wasn't like uh it was a boy and that was a game they better she bit me with technique she [ __ ] skilled me as always it was a real humbling experience and I'm grateful that I lost you know what I mean it was uh it made me made me stick around and want to get better you know what I mean it really opened me always to it doesn't matter the choice or the strength of the gender it's only tell them but don't cancel the money message but uh like that like just put things into perspective duh technique Triumph song you know what I mean so it was a real eye-opened experience from the very start of competition and then from that then I just always wanted to compete more in the morning then the fact that it didn't win a gold medal on me forced or made me want to win a gold medal again and then just going through and wanted to just be good at it yeah I just I always kind of I've always been competitive I've always wanted to they would go to I grew up with me but I know what I mean by Luffy the same age so everything was always a competition I mean so it's always competitive yeah yeah no that's cool like like that you were saying obviously your first loss was to the girl um and that should show us because you could have someone that's bigger than you in Jiu Jitsu yeah um and you could be smaller but you could beat them with just pure technique because it is so it is so technical yeah I don't train it but even from just watching like your fights and other people fighting the UFC fights you're able to pick up and that's why I think it's beautiful about it it's like like trying to work out a puzzle yeah yeah no 100 and when Darren held on to me and squeezed and I was able to just flip them over so easy it was just straight away it was like this so interesting man it was just it really blew me moment that the more he held on and struggled the easier it was not a man and that's like it's nice you know what I mean it's nice to be able to fail that and then transfer it into different ways of leaf thing you know what I mean so only as a model I'm trying to realize that pool it is it's it's a good it's a good it's a good thing to stay economy you want to compete I know it's a good thing to get in there yeah because when I come to James like here or in many years in around the country there's a huge percentage of people who actually do jujitsues that don't compete man it's most most people don't know the man like me but I don't doesn't compete you know like he's trying to just as long as me he's had 1K one Fleet that ended in a draw he's done a little few Jitsu competitions but for the most part he doesn't like us no I mean the pre-point nerves and like the fact you're spending [ __ ] 200 quids for one match day if you don't win you're not going through you know what I mean so it's like you never you never enjoyed the competition experience whereas maybe I like the feeling in my stomach of being nervous and having to deal well to be able to progress that don't always don't have better in the competitions but like around Robin where he would lose his Force match stress of winning the gold medal was off and when he'd win a second match and then it was he was a weirdo like that you know the stress sometimes got to him yeah but he wants to compete against Sion he's a pull-up belt now so he wants to compete a little bit more and just again for his own sake it's not he's not forced into him none of us pressured him in that he just wants to know that his Jujitsu walks against a resistant opponent you know yeah when you first started to uh for your amateur career like you're at 17 fights now yeah at 17 fights now you're on a seven fight win streak I believe but bring us back to the very first time the very first week before the flight the very first day we just talked about the the feelings that he got and he didn't like tell us about what how you got them the first time yeah it's [ __ ] still the same bro to be honest it's still the exact same feeling when you're scared shitless like uh before swims against round and Butler he was an experienced I think you had maybe six or seven for each no no yeah 7 42 I think he was like maybe three and four or something like that or two and four every kids had blade in seven foreign you know just went in and I [ __ ] had about three straight points just got head kicked and then [ __ ] drunk clothes guys it's like they used me Jiu Jitsu man yeah yes I would want me feel I'd want to feel gold medals and Jiu Jitsu I think I'd won the Irish the Irish Nationals as a wheat belt or something like that and then went into Jiu Jitsu and asari went into the MMA then and truthy used the MMA and she used to whenever made in yeah but it was it was a it was a tough fight and I was glad that it was so tough because it made me realize how much more walk I had to do I think if I had to went in and shoved them in the fourth round there wouldn't have made me again like listen to the girl who puts things into perspective and I'm never happy you know that's one thing that I kind of employed myself on is that I'm always looking to do better and after the round and Butler for you it was before it was a static when I won all the boys I just stay out there really [ __ ] everybody was there you know and I was it was crazy man after everyone know what I mean it was class but it's still the same thing I'm still always looking to for me that's gone no I mean like it's one for you at a time and I'm always trying to be that I'm always trying to get my gym self into the cage if that makes sense yeah would you call yourself your biggest crate would you beat your own biggest critic like yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah no but yeah I am I do I do look at even the wins when I'm like people tend to not look at the victories they only tend to look at when they lose they go back and sleep or or they will look at a lot yeah yeah that's good because you can go because that's what I wanted only one or two fighters have said that to me that they've gone back because they've looked and said I actually could have finished here I could have finished yeah I could have finished yeah just mistakes that I remember making in the food that I wasn't happy with you know it would be like in the free I'm very employed myself on being present at the moment so it's not just a blore to me I remember the fruits and uh I remember like the mistakes that I made and being like ah [ __ ] and then I tried to fix them yeah so like you were saying obviously you're present in the moment a lot of people when they get that winning feelings you think then they just forget about everything that they were present yeah because they've won they think it was the perfect performance and they don't need to look back on the videos of when they won because they won't and the guy who loves is probably progress is better than the guy you won in the grand scheme of things you know so I think like uh you can never be happy with your performances even if it's a perfect performance probably wasn't the hardest opponent that you picked you know what I mean so in that sense like yeah you need to be looking for the toughest guys and you need to be uh challenging yourself and looking to get the perfect game on these top opponents perfect um with that you've gone to IMAP competitions as well taught us through the experience of that because you meddled I believe it was bronze yeah yeah yeah the whole uh experience from got getting picked to going over what was it like getting picked going over how was it when you were there all that sort of stuff yeah so I'll be very forced omaf was uh after the round of Butler for you I'd went to Italy for the European championships and I lost then to a lot called Shamil and then uh I had Philip I was a close fight I thought I edged it to be honest but he should have done more again I looked back on all the fruits and I I felt just too comfortable being content that winning I should have tried to win a bit harder you know so that was my first time I've experience I got to see uh the whole thing as it was you know what I mean like with the Ireland Squad and the the team connections or it was a good learning experience there we were trying and every day after the people who lost were training together so it really broke down the barrier of like this gym versus that gym like back in the day there was no omafa Team all and so I was very devoided from gym to gym but with the only Maps I kind of broke them them walls and okay we're here to stay more than that one out here is SPG a team ruin or whatever you know so it really broke down with them walls of so it was a good experience and then the previous one you started the next time was the world championships I went in a bit more aggressive I managed to win till three so I won a fight against Northern Ireland against Dylan Doherty and then I won my next match against uh Bahrain against the fella called oh [ __ ] I can't Ibrahim Darius or something later I think he was from Berlin I won him and then I lost the Daniel and the semis I managed to secure the bronze medal and it's just it's a good good experience like I'm glad that I had layers playing with Lane and stuff like that so we really had the him to look up to you know like he kind of guided me and this is this is kind of things to do like even just [ __ ] stupid [ __ ] man like not losing the same lift that everybody uses going and using the cleaners lifts instead of waiting alone and breakfast he said boydy apparently where we can cook our own food and not just stupid [ __ ] man I mean [ __ ] that leaky wouldn't even be thinking of like have you had breakfast ready so the seconds away and you can eat because there's a big huge kill at the buffet so you're not eating for another hour like not just simple [ __ ] like that one that'll like it helps it's not that again like that's like the final percent that helps you know so that kind of stuff really helped me you know yeah yeah when when you got to bronze how are you feeling um yeah it's not happy oh yeah yeah don't get me wrong you're happy boo I was there for gold no I mean I felt a bit like I let the fact that he was from Kazakhstan get to me a bit it was kind of like uh Jesus days boys I thought we watched a lot of [ __ ] videos I let the moment get to me and I almost kind of [ __ ] I almost was happy with bronze not a man like I was like okay anyway when I lose I get a bronze medal and they I settled for bronze you know what I mean so I wasn't happy with it yeah yeah looking back on it obviously that you you I think maybe what you described I always ask Fighters do you look into them much now because you think that meant put something mentally in your head when you're seeing the airbags you've seen how good he was do you think that slightly true you for the fight or uh yes and no so like a did back then but as of now matured I still look at my opponents but I I know myself now how good I am whereas back then I was looking at him and looking at how good he was and thinking that I'm not that good but now we look at this guys and say oh he's pretty good but we know I'm better so you know what I mean it's a more different mentality in me than of their process I still do the same process but my mindset is different if that makes sense yeah yeah that's obviously comes with age it comes with like fighting maturity and stuff like that and like that obviously you've gone on a bit of a tear now just a couple of fights that there was one I was at right it was obviously the Jamie yeah yeah before yeah yeah what I loved was that was the support you got to be like up the flat yeah yeah talk to us about the flats where you come from yeah and what it means to you because you seem like such an inspiration at such a young age to all all these all these Lads around from where you live yeah you don't come to these shows yeah yeah everybody oh yeah now it is it's [ __ ] it's daily to receive them I know what I mean like it really is like we would have grown up and they would have been the lads you know what I mean they're all a bit older than me and I would have been like just through the boys not I mean I know it's funny that like [ __ ] they almost like their kids are looking up to me in a sense now I mean like and it's I just tried to give back to the men and they just straight they show that like uh just because we're from an area that's probably known for drugs and [ __ ] crime and people like it's almost like you stay down there now I mean like gets you like walk in class and you stay uh walk in class you know what I mean I like to show that like [ __ ] Reach for the Stars when like 12 people we uh it's just manager I can't describe it bro I really can't it's just one of them things that if you're not from there you'll never understand you know it's hard to put into words but the support is unbelievable and I mean and it's a it's just a community man I mean it really is like it's like a knock inter blade in any one of them in there and I don't say listen there's no blade milk or sugar like I need help you know what I mean and everybody's in the same boat I mean that's the way to the school even I mean everybody's in the same boat and no one is above anybody else yeah so it's like everybody's calm relaxed and they want you to do well and I mean everybody wants you to clone them and no one wants to a lot of people want you to not in the flat spot like in general like people want to see it do good but they don't want to see you do better than them you know what I mean like people want you to do well but I don't want him having better stuff to me whereas in the flats man people want you to go for the Stars man they love it they love them when they see somebody do well you know it's not there it's not something that people are jealous of you know what I mean they they really want you to do well and they say when they say they say it was great that you're done when's the next one and congratulations and it's it's nice bro it's nice yeah I can imagine it is especially when people say that their kids look option to to be known as a role model at any age because if someone ever turned around and said to someone else like I look up to you that's always going to hit like yeah now 100 the doors man the doors yeah and it does make me think about like uh how I act and you know what I mean like a definitely get you out of bed in the morning blown on that like there's people out there who do look up to you know what I mean like and it's I think it's important for they don't care no I mean our generation is a lot about ourselves you know what I mean like and I think it's good that you're putting a positive image out there especially now with social media that everything's available at the click of a button like I think it's important that you're putting out a good image and showing people that there's a different way you know yeah because like in the area you're from and there's many areas around the country it's so easy to fall in yeah yeah and especially when you don't have money and you want money you know what I mean like it's it's a it looks well not a man and you want the ball I've always been lucky to have the support of family around me and they never once pressured me for money or they've never once pressured me to get a job or like do stuff that I never wanted to do me my mother I've always supported me in the gym and they've always said right like we're not a sacrifice and everything so you can do this and it's super super grateful for here yeah no that's that is nice because like that and something else I like said that sense of community is gone and it's it's around the country and I think it's got a lot to do with a lot of social media uh fast lives now there's so many high-powered jobs and you have to work like mad hours yeah do you think like that sounds nice is that because you don't really see that sense of community in many other places then it's only really in the pool there's like the middle class is kind of like uh when your neighbors so far away you almost feel embarrassed to go over and knock on the door but when you can [ __ ] hear them having a fight next door you know what I mean like the walls are thin bro not I mean like it's everything's open you know so it's one of them things like my friend reads and says all the time and he says like we can hear you laughing from the other block you know what I mean and it's just everyone's the same you know what I mean like it's uh yes I stuck in there together so it's like one big Troy you know it's a you can't really hold out from anybody know what I mean if you're having a [ __ ] day people know having a good day people know you know so it's it's good in that sense that it is a community you know what I mean you're not hidden away and uh people understand when you're having a good day and they're not having a bad day and they'll drop you in a blade gift if you're having a bad day you know what I mean like it's just one of them things that when you're all in the same boat it is that sense of community you know yeah and it is good like I said people know you're having a bad day because a lot of people nowadays especially with mental health you're gone they just won't talk to anyone yeah if you're surrounded like someone like that that sounds like it's a good support yes it is yeah and it's a Tottenham super grateful for them and like the flats are there it's the concrete jungle bro yeah it really is yeah one thing you always speak about being grateful for as well richly smaller than toxic about Richie and what he means to you mine is a big brother from here he truly is like he's a he's a big Buddha he's [ __ ] a true friend you know what I mean he said be worst enemy you know what I mean like I'd say he's he's a [ __ ] Legend man he's really his money he took me under his ring when I was very young help me out [ __ ] blow me for lunch and blade made sure it was early and even still money still brings me for lunch to make sure the morning and I'm bleeding 23 years old you know what I mean like he's a he's a hurdle man he's a he's an unsung hero another man like people he doesn't get enough fluid that he deserves man he's starting to know he's starting to get the big foods that he deserves and I'm so glad to say yeah yeah yeah I always felt that like he flat he flew under the radio obviously he was on top yeah and then he went out it was Heroes I believe he went and don't do a two-way Championship yeah yeah real free promotion yeah yeah in the Ukraine yeah and then like that I think he went on the rate like it beltor I think were mad yeah to like all the time but now he's back and now we've been brought abroad yeah which is a big deal yeah exactly exactly what they have on their hands you know like that last guy that he bet was like a Solo solo competitor and the guy he's fighting that was a good competitor as well you know so once he beats this guy like he's really going to be I think up there for a Toyota and man I really think he can the woman I truly believe that he is a world class for you and I think if you still come in the UFC against falconowski you give [ __ ] volkanovski trouble you know we truly believe that he is an elite foreign when you see him getting that recognition does that then inspire you on then as well yeah because again when he's starting to get this tougher fruits he'll prostrain him when he helps his training and foreign 100 because I've noticed he Corners you most of yeah and nearly all your fights in the last while yeah um and with that you've got 17 now me and you spoke a while ago on a on an internet interview and you said you were looking for Alexander's number yeah that still is achievable yeah I think it's looking to be more Pro yeah that was just a little digger Alex I always said I wanted to blame me Alex's record an enemy about two days normally but it's probably looking like George Bradshaw [ __ ] a beat that record he's probably closing thing like he's [ __ ] 20 yard now he's done 12 fights in 12 months last yeah that's what I'm saying that's a that's a great achievement you know so they see my boys seem to be [ __ ] it it'll probably be one of them who beats Alexis yeah but now I did I wanted to beat that record but I feel like maybe I doubted myself as in my experience no I mean maybe I thought I would have took a bit longer to feel as comfortable as I did in the cage as I do now you know I think I'm not sure what like what it was when I said that but I feel pretty comfortable now in the cage and putting it all together you know so um I don't think I'll be able to get through people I'd say she'll not be going pro yeah I I that's what I was on the Assumption because just looking at your your last couple of fights like that you do like you said you still do get to know Arizona before but once you're in there you've seen cam in every position you're getting you've seen cam like just talk to people how does that come out is that just true experience experience experience and then train and no one that you've done the training and coming in yeah right yeah yeah 100 man it just comes down to where and just even saying it to myself before in the moment like just be present soak it all in and don't let it be a blur like [ __ ] the round of fight like my ready for his foot I got head kicked and dropped and I was on my hands and ears and I don't even remember I can't remember that for you know what I mean it was just a blow and now looking back and I can see it but it's something that I try to be it's it's the game you know what I mean when I'm in training I'm thinking about how do I pass this goes God how do I get the choke out away here control them in the free you tend to just not think about that and just want to win and when you want to win Slips Away From You whereas if you can control the circumstances and just worry about this one position that we're in now rather than the grand scheme of things attempts to walk out you know living each day like in the present you know what I mean like when I'm in the cage I just like getting to the ground once I get into the ground then I do be thinking what's next I'm not thinking [ __ ] this is a big toil for you this is I have to finish up if it comes the Combs you know what I mean I'll just try second boy second man that's his second boy second yeah um because people especially when they have plans more so not in fighting plans in general they don't think of all the little goals you have to get there that sounds like exactly exactly yeah yeah it's like loads of little battles to win the war no I mean that's the way we describe it in my own head you know like I just need to win these little small Victor it's like playing chess man you move your opponents forward then you move I know each then you move your Bishops then you get the queen and oh man and it walks like that you know so it's like little steps to the Checkmate it's not just a straight check me foreign I want to say five belts now or is it six uh well we include Naga bills normally messed virtuous second was cage Legacy porn was cage Legacy Ford was all you wore fifth was fifth was yoke then yeah yeah yeah so obviously you've done two weights in cage legs as well it looks like when you are going pro you're gonna go in at fly away because you're actually a pound and a half under your last yeah wasn't it yeah so yeah how was your weight call yeah no it's pretty easy to be honest like of course like you're not eating bread it's boxing on me but yeah I'm I'm a fluid yeah I'm not abandoned mate yeah yeah so I going forward into Pro that's what you'll be looking yeah I'm looking to just get a little bit bigger and then cut again maybe they're quite a little bit harder because it's pretty relatively easy at the moment so you do look at the boys I fly away when they're not [ __ ] caught away and they're pretty big and I know I'm just not there yet know what I mean so getting a little bit emotional eat a little bit more and that's it yeah yeah perfect when you look back on what you've done so far I'm gonna ask you like two questions um one is what's your favorite fight oh no sorry three questions your favorite fight your favorite finish and a fight that you learn the more stuff I probably know the answer to these or one of them what do you think I think no I think the Ron and Butler one is probably the one you learned the most from straight away yeah um your favorite fight I don't know maybe it's only because I was dead to Jamie Abbott won yeah um and your favorite finish probably your latest one yeah yeah did I get three hour three yeah I'm not too sure I'll think about it's a good question be favorite free it's definitely the game we have before yeah that was that was it was [ __ ] barely man because me and Jenny we hold no bad blood numbing with healthy children in the omaps and it was just it was a competitive Fleet you know but the electricity in the room it really was man it was class it was like a back in the day my Battle Zone and stuff you know what I mean like shows that Andy annoying had and stuff like that it was like it was always a boys it was like it's like the little UFC event and I always remember being like that and then it kind of dimmed down a little bit before each day they never got that buzz again now I mean but I don't know maybe I just never noticed I know what I mean maybe maybe there always has been a boy's ball with that Jamie I before it really felt like old-scale MMA you know what I mean I felt like when Roddy was for him in the talabasco or you know he could hurt him and I could feel on his skin it was [ __ ] it was unbelievable man and I didn't even hear any words being said I just felt the energy in the room you know it was a stick with me forever that that feeling of like people gonna [ __ ] crazy watching money I always forget it was a great experience man yeah and then my favorite finish was Tommy Clark yeah because uh I'd actually been walking that South for a long time you know what I mean I figured it out that we could catch people with it and I figured out that it really worked when I locked it on and together against it after being caught in a triangle not a man like it was a good experience but the foot I learned the most fun all right Chanel forward one was probably [ __ ] damn Abraham County and the universe you know what probably actually that Ibrahim that I used for yes the one that it was in the 2019 World Championships with me second free and they just just before they flew out or he was practical I have a sequence called the Jimmy and I was doing this Jimmy sequence and when I ended up there in the free I was like this is it it's fresh and I was just realizing that the repetition the techniques uh walks you know what I mean like it's not don't go into a fleet with no plan no I mean before it went in just a free whereas with this world without World Championships I went in with a goal of looking to you with me grapplements that I just I'm trying to fight not a man like so probably they're 30 years for you because when I hit that Jimmy it was one-on-one when I hit that technique uh I took him down and then uh I went around and I managed to Blade and secure the blonde's medal so probably that free really made me realize like the importance of practice and what you plan on doing yeah so maybe that free yeah but it's a good question I'll probably think about a bit more than we leave her and I'll probably played the Sanji a different answer yeah but now that was it was a good fight and it was good to actually uh they were a number adrenal wouldn't be put on a member just holding them when they came home probably Angelina was killing you know so that was a good experience yeah and I like how like you said you're going in one-on-one and how it wasn't because most people go and they they pick kind of the not lowest moms but when they've taken a bad beat you know I lost most of it was you learn something that was positive that's that's that was your biggest yeah yeah exactly yeah a positive one yeah I'm gonna ask you one more question and I'm Gonna Let You Go when it's all said and done how do you want how does Gary Rooney from the flats want to be remembered yeah if there's a kid from the flatsman who gave it his best and wherever that takes and it takes a month yeah don't be don't be held down by where you are from or what's expected of you from because you're from Australian nearly money I just want to be remembered as carry around from the flat Throne That's it man yeah I don't want to be remembered as bro yeah perfect it's been an absolute pleasure thank you so much thank you imagine bro
