okay what's going on guys and welcome to a brand new episode of managers today we have a very special guest on the show we have the creator of Irish football fan TV mr. Paul Nealon Paul how we doing good thanks very much I've never got an entrance like that before so we use we're doing great we're doing great add the noise so I mean that's always that's always a help but you don't mean your let's say your background or your let's say in your program it has to be yourself no matter what you do although I'm saying I haven't been out yet today I will get a yeah same here no I got actually trying to do that 5k run I was like and where the data so nominee Ross years ago and do this after like yeah morning first thing tomorrow morn I'm keeping tight-lipped so I don't get have you been up to like I'll see you ben Crane content and have you been saying I could um well I've been looking kind of getting players on and probably place but wouldn't been able to get in the past for their so it kind of just at the start of kind of the lockdown I got on to where Jason noise and I failed to do before everyone kind of found out but Jim I felt a new software a stream yard and I'm kind of I think it's just one of those things where you know I think everything happens for a reason but I found it anyway and it's just been unbelievable it's been able to get in contact with people it's very similar to discolor software and he agreed to come on and then I'd be quite friendly with Darren Randolph now so just got him on and then he is kind of any player kind of access or assumed and follower or Instagram so having him and obviously Jason the two of them Jason McCoy close with the younger lads of the Irish team and obviously Darren with the with the senior team so kind of it kind of bit of a snowball effect from there was Darren Randolph then it was Connor Hara him then John Egan as well and then do you under age was Johnson awful a bit Celtic and then yesterday I did am elite the O'Connor and Shane do feed them last night so so they currently one as well that was good oh iron Condor yeah how did you forget it's just been that type a week I've been struggling to sleep to tell you the truth because I've been having the coffee so late at night when I'm doing them yeah yeah it's just I'm sure you know yourselves because she's if I great guests on as well and third place is wrecked so know how hard it can be when you're when you're creating content and so forth on and especially in these like it's it's drawing times as they say they're trying to get people out it can be tough but also when you do get them it it's very rewarding and obviously you're proud with them and you want to get it out to people let them see it you know yeah we've have a show every day I think since since lockdown so like your man like like constantly have another yes Lloyd or you know man so like I like we know every time and we'd rather do like to on the one day like we just got off with their Jamie he slipped or if all we care about before now boy app you know what's going on I think it's just one of those things where you're like right he was next and then I think was a two days ago it was yesterday and we interviewed by pop all use he's anime for and we're like we have to that one stakes we don't have one for tomorrow but there we have one till Monday about you do we do so yeah well we have one today one day so needle for me yeah we need one from on it yeah that will be for people that are watching now like obviously all of us create content that's what is cardboard air it is it is awesome isn't it like I mean we're on your show couple years ago now and like it yeah it's amazing to see how much you've progressed goes like you're a like every game like don't you see like and like in our own this for - well it's such a small amount of people actually putting out the content and you are hoarsely like anything and it's a it's really really cool to see it cuz like it makes like makes us look at other people and we're like we we do more and more you know and like you're really really going for it I'm like I'm sure people follow every priority yeah well thanks very much for I think a lot of people don't realize the kind of level like you pretty much devote your life to these things and I know you do well and but people don't understand that people just think oh yeah like how people throw things at me like oh it's just a hobby for you and I'll just like I quit my job to somebody swimmer before trying god it's full-time do you know what I mean and and people like give me stick because I like I don't go to away games but truth to the matter is it kind of forward to go to away games I'm trying to put so much effort into getting this off the ground you know from that from there from the ground up or like I think that the biggest key to it and you'll know yourselves just consistency if you're not consistent and I think it's great that you survive shows roll up until Monday and because as long as you have the kind of shows locked in then you can kind of go all right well there we have their boss stars so we can all the things to have all the things boxed off and I think the more consistent yeah the more people are kind of gravitating to you not I mean and the more your kind of scene I think a great guest for you guys I'll probably contact him as well but Killian Sheridan oh he's hilarious I think he'd be a very cursory and I know he's like yeah yeah he has his own YouTube channel as well but his DMS are open on them on Twitter and as far as I know he's quite open to convict he'd be a great guest we actually found a difficult to get footballers on the like they obviously turned up like a large metal follower so like they'd have people constantly ask them like yeah but I can only imagine like him for when I'll those the answer you know most follow me on Instagram or the EMA for this cause a lot unfollow see it's easier to get on the show so the Ruby players like we're fortunate to get on or that people or Duty it's one of those things I want to get one person um it comes easier than to get another person from that John round that makes sense yeah yeah I think it's it's kind of like I'm on the CV isn't it because you can link that there and go look I had Qian Bala gate on for example you say and you could turn around and go well I had him on so you know he'll vouch for a swipe of thing you know and and that's you need people to to voucher and at the same time you want them to come on because they enjoy coming on you don't want to just come on Christy if there's a catch or like any repairs I've had on they've wanted to come on just I've been looking in that sense for any kind of goes down to kind of how you make them feel welcome you know obviously anyone who kind of creates content knows that you know before the show you have a little chat and it's welcoming we kind of go through a couple of things so once you kind of make you feel welcomed a super but I think as well you've mentioned the MLA for years there as well they add their own brand do you know what I mean so for them they look it up just publicity for me whereas a lot of the clubs can stop here or they have someone running their social media that's their friend or their agent or or something like that so there there is all those other things that community footballers and unless you kind of know their families or something like that I'm looking or so I'm looking off that a lot of families would follow the page and stuff like that so and then the end up at Mia as a friend or the follow you on social media and then you kind of get talking to them and look it's windows things and usually know yourself you don't take the shot you'll never score so you don't ask you don't get and that's what you have to do it mari you said you know it's a hole so if you don't ask you don't get it's simple as that I take em you know Ariel Helwani remember when he remember when he got the rocker and he made that the point of like I'm just gonna take me shot here and I love that and the rock even kind of quoted of mine says you know what the fact that you you just took the shot you know reminded him kind of when he start because a lot of these people they do kind of start off with very little to get the top so if you can kind of remind them of bringing them back to where they kind of started if you're starting off with something generally speaking they're a bit more open to do it you know where's the idea of or football on TV combo and well I was over in Canada I was over there working for two years 2015 to seven what we doing I was doing a bit of everything but mainly went over a coaching football in the summer and then I end up staying I wasn't meant to stay but I got two year visa from the culture so we just after the summer was oh I went to the skeeters basically every week you'd be coaching in it in it like a really small town in what's it called again Canada yeah but no I know kind of the name of the Saskatchewan no like I know where it was but it's the name of the kind of I was in the boat their place and Boise gone all around British Columbia which if you know but it's crummy its massive when I was up in the Rocky Mountains so I was every week in a new town and you'd stay with a family basically every week so you're basically saying with strangers week to week for them one of the family's own Erebus oh you didn't own he was manager at the ski resort hotel so he ended up staying there for a year with them I lived in the basement so I basically my own like like sweet in there so it's great you know my own real never seen my own privacy and I could do it I was working two jobs then I was a host in the hotel and then I was working in the as the towns are full you know the local pub well I did that for a year at ni me then I went back went then to Toronto then Ontario the next summer and then I actually found a family that I am that I didn't know how so my dad's cousin um my dad passed away but yeah he had a cousin living over there and it was a lot of clues his distant cousin so I didn't know about so I actually ended up staying with them in Edmonton in Alberta we stayed there for about six months and came down but kind of get away from all that the every basically weekend or something their games would be on 7/8 the morning their time so getting into that the the games was higher because I could be working on a on a Saturday morning or on a Freud you know it could've went though you know so more realistically I wouldn't be getting up at a o'clock if I was out and afro did you know so I would watch toffee TV which is an Everton fan channel because of obviously a massive Everton fan and I used to just be able to keep up to date with everything to do with you know Everton related you know the games they would go to the games really his debts and stuff like that and I just I just couldn't get an offer I loved it and then I'm gonna came back then in in March I the first thing I did was I got over for a game West Brom and I stuck around then to the moon because they generally did the filming on a Monday and so I went on the show kind of seen how they did things and stuff like that so it lost the startup so couple weeks asked up and I got back then and I started it all and then yeah just I put like the first probably year I probably so I wasn't happy with kind of consistency there was videos going oh here and there even you know I just wasn't really happy with the kind of direction it was going and then I kind of found a bit of consistencies that get more you know access but media access with the the League of aural and so we're able to get the more games within the League of Ireland obviously go on to the Orion games getting the access into press conference and stuff like that so kind of from then on it was starting to get a bit of consistency and I'm kind of now the seat well we were always had to really build a really good team so we had people go on to different games interview and then stuff like that players fans whatever it's called ashamed that the corona was kind of cut that short but in a different sense and I'm sure use no use after kind of adapt so trying to get players on there as much for benefit I do like going obviously to the games and getting involved with the fans as well for having the players as opposed just as good and when you get people kind of coming back to you and give me good feedback on how much they actually enjoyed the the interviews with the play and they're insightful and the keep them gone so say someone's gone ruining a lot of the podcasts done with the players are like an hour long so they keep people gone for the hour so that for me fills me with is enough enjoyment if they you know if people come back to me and say that they enjoyed the interview and it kept on going true this stage stand-up as a content creators I'm sure you guys now it makes you happy when someone says you don't a good job you know yeah yeah so like when we go messes as well like like he sees me and Rathbone access the Instagram account or I don't know if you're the only person who accesses that the football fan or like when we get messages like like if I was here make sure to screenshot and send to us and he does voice averse it's just a case you miss certain you know because sometimes we get the Ames and like it's like we were meant to reply mean every people like it yeah it's some of those messages are great and we always ask people after do you mind if we screenshot this impulsive like you don't we don't store your face or your name were most of times of a gecko show them yeah well I think as well obviously because we kind of work within a social media and type thing but you know sometimes negative negativity can can kind of take over you'll have a hundred you know really nice puzzle under that one kind of kind of sticks out with you but kind of trying to turn my mentality I'm sure use probably the same is ignored the negative one I just focus on all not to get like eight you headed or anything like Oaks on the positive ones but don't get kind of lost in it either you know kind of find out balances I've been told by other people who kind of work within the industry that that's the best way of kind of stand levels don't get don't read too many positive comments don't read too many negative just gonna sound really strange but like we actually never really get anything bad ever read which is actually like it means we're doing something wrong like you go with it don't know Russ not really BAM it's one more thing for our like oh I think we're quite promotional where a lot of our guests um I suppose off see I think Paul you're gonna get along you're giving a lot more or opinions arm maybe the League of Ireland on certain teams a lot people if you say something a little bit when their teams they're gonna get upset and then you know I mean yeah what I suppose your your market is a bit more niche in a sense that people don't really yet maybe a bit more upset over because they're like that's more your favorite player as well so I think we're a bit broader on our subjects so I think maybe we have fanned less people yeah yeah I think that would make sense yeah but I got do try to keep it fairly you know oh it's a neutral and because like I know what you mean because say if I put up something after Rovers can always be passe yeah and usually the post fans we looked at the year before when you just have to go you know III don't support in that Club so it doesn't make any difference to me it's not game you know so I think you're just don't the house for them to go to I mean cuz you I feel like you're the face of what they are your football scene and you leave around as well like you're the top of the like you're it that your channel is it I don't see anyone else really going near it really you know Paul if you watch to your te League of Ireland Joe are you pretending but there is soccer Republic but there's also a one on air sport as well did we get matching today yeah yeah ello a weekly that's the one an air spoil yeah I'm Rossi yourself by stalking Republic the work shows it back yeah we can like they didn't show the actual like toilets the games and I was like that's the air sport yeah the air for one another this little were shy was in our Washington all time because it was like yours happy results that only haven't seen and then you're not showing me the gold it just didn't make any sense oh you swim close with League of Ireland they're their own worst enemies I'm like I feel like over T our own you willing to go so far early tomorrow would like totally were like we're not showing the game because Bob whether I was like that was yours will be team playing like you'll be out the game regardless the way and whose huge game are you actually listen it was the first game to see his impose versus Rovers biggest game the season I was like right I'm gonna give this a whack and then it was not and I was like are you okay and it was the last minute winner for Roberts wasn't it and it would have been more real to watch that I was at that game and tell you the truth I actually I don't how I'm gonna put this like I don't disagree with why they did it I got like being out the game working on the stand but at the same time I for fans that want to watch a put literally like they had the underage balls guys sit on the bench because man who can low blow away so I can see why they didn't do it was just purely on a safety book yeah as you said there was like they can be their own worst enemy and no I don't watch that or to either the soccer public show I used to watch it I don't watch it anymore I mean wanna they're just telling me stuff that I already know well we don't take court to half an hour so they kind of stopped getting people in talking about they used to have it like really well in late 2017 had Fabio Brian and Allen Kali come and it would go true and speak but games similar to matches a day within the author you just cut that short and yeah unless you have the the roids today to the highlights like we we were we were given highlights because last year and then the FBI said oh no that's copyright infringement you can't use them because we were getting a bit of popularity honor so we have to I suppose knocked on the head and just kind of see the way you sit there Russ but what ago would I watch you just talking about a game like see it's all you can do I'm sure the lads are fair I've only got the rights to the air noise games the air show that makes sense so they can't they were like that McDonald's is probably the most credible III think he's demented journalists in Irish football and he does that Joe Jay Ward is a Johnny wort Johnny what's her excuse me yes Dan Dan I think that look down just beyond off the ball I think Johnny means too so like I mean those lads they are they do care about the lingo for indefinite not allowed to our host and it's just like I haven't seen the mattress so all you want to see the Gold's they say they need help yeah much of the day if much of the egg you get the right charity on BBC journey air sports like how much we get the roids watch the girls of lead my army can't be down before me that's it I think on your te and the FE o you have them like we were told if we if we like we can't even post think who they have in there doesn't understand what the [ __ ] is going on because like it you're obviously trying to put out the best cotton you have you're having like I'm great footballers on there on the channel as well and make it like well done and I don't see why they're not giving your hand because you're doing this I owe your own pocket and like I know obviously you had your gourmet John Delaney on the show for there it so no way you can arrange meeting for someone to be like you look this one I'm doing look at look at the catalog of people have had on the show who would be oh [ __ ] current internationals and futures or your stars and like even the people League rounds they lost in the interviews after and like I don't see how there's there must be only one or two doors you need to open to get in the meet and be like it'll we're just gonna share this your stuff was gonna go more more more people gonna be interested because I said I think the biggest problem is many people even know when the games are on you know or he was even playing like all of a sudden to say god that was on this is on I don't know yeah yeah like I don't know it might sound a bit big hey buddy there's a couple people in it I might be a little bit jealous that I've kind of made my own kind of tracks never again and they and they kind of want to shut down with me I've put as many barriers in front as they can but at the same time they have helped in other ways so I can't I can't complain too much I mean I wouldn't have access if it wasn't for them at the same time so that's the thing it's yeah yeah I mean you just kind of have to go by the poke in that regard and as much as you want to have the highlights and you want to show girls unfortunately just just wait it's like it's need some clothes compete like that I mean like I had I was at and JD sponsorship thing Rovers in season and the people in Rovers just made it so difficult for me to talk to Jack Bernard no Jack Boren like I'm talking to him a lot you know off you know any of the show and so yeah and you know Jack ended up losing the plot and were you the only just fella comes and he promotes the league all the time and then verge immediate just so it's pop up when you give them all the time in the world there's this fellow foots is kind of life and soul into it and anytime he comes up you make problems I was very thankful similarly Jack Byrne who appreciates the work done that there is being put in for the league and then you have you know the players do the players do really appreciate in the players League of all players especially after every game that they'll always give you the time so respect to them as well you know Paul I think will be written a [ __ ] about C McKenney and possibly the greatest leave our manager of all time there's no tape no or the oil shop Smith McCarthy more you reaction that is I don't think McCarthy that's too happy about the euros been swept away from and but what's your take on that and how did you see that go down well I think if if the game was going to be played before June I think he probably would have been a book to do it but in fact it kind of Conley and then he didn't do it and then like with the ball was totally over hands and then we went on didn't perform and with these two games quit making charge oh it was pretty sure we would not wasn't Mick town to open his feet and with the journalist even so I think I think and as like Erin Connelly has worked with a good few of them now and he just thought they all loved working on the same and when he brought to me for the Toulon tournament he kind of he they were saying it he made it like it's a real family kind of feel to it which is really good it it's a shame that unfortunate because I know there was meant to be like a training camp in June in Austria for the team and it's a shame that's a problem we won't go ahead no because well well it made you I do if it does actually if it wasn't is a shame because it would have been nice to get the players kind of around and together for maybe a couple of weeks cuz they never get that at international level so it's getting for a couple weeks to maybe work on the soil will be a lot better cuz they only get like two or three days max we didn't train and then as soon as the games are over generally speaking they're flowing back their globes yeah what are you sort of expecting from Steam Kenny now as well like what team what team would you like to see be a star in eleven or even what formation you know because I feel like this is this 442 I think is going to be a thing of the past I think this team can use a portrait anyway yeah what were able to play like now if I was going from oh you like say yeah let's be realistic 90 minutes in the last couple of months and yeah he's been played by injury yeah I just felt so sorry because I do think he's a really we compare to bring him back and fold them yeah yeah and so him and then along be in front of them or I'd struggle to kind of pick a partner between al-rayhan and Hendrik or listen if if James McCarthy wasn't fit I pick Josh color they're ahead of James McCarthy you know for me personally that's urine or a Hendrick I think Kendrick slate been claimed quite poorly as of late same drug brain and all of the two of them like they've given some great moments a
