you emptied your bank account to get to Vegas. You went all in on yourself. Is that something that you'll relay to them being like you have to go all in on yourself to make make something like this happen? >> Yeah, you have to back yourself, don't you? No one else is is going to do it for you. Like, but um I backed myself in the start. This was 10 years of like working part-time jobs, doing [ __ ] I didn't want to do to get to where I want to be. And now I'm here. It's time to make some big money. And I think a lot of the guys in cage warriors are probably six months to 12 months behind me. As in >> I think I I said it on the broadcast after the fight. I don't know if I picked it up, but I said 12 24 months from now, you're going to see a lot of Irish guys in the UFC. It is a Dana Woods Contender Series season 10 winner, the one and only Adam the Plank Derby. Darby, how you getting on, man? >> Very good. Just back in Ireland. Touchdown last night. Just ho the gym. hit a few pads with collie. So, uh, yeah, feeling good. Body's good. Looking forward to the next one. >> Brilliant. >> Looking forward to We're looking forward to it as well, man. Congratulations. >> Thank you. >> So, man, tell tell us this. How did it feel when when you first got the call up about getting the Contender Series? Where were you and uh who who gave you the ring? >> Yes. So, I got a call off my manager Graeme Boland. It was actually two weeks out from Cage Warriors fighting in Manchester and I could not get an opponent. I said yeah to like 10 guys. They all said no. So I was super bored. Was in me room was actually stripped the wallpaper off cuz I was like I need something to do. Can't eat food. Graeme rang me was like look what you doing? I sit down blah blah blah. I like get to get the contender series call 3 months time. I was like all right cool. Boom. Buzzing. Course the house down. Realized I had to actually finish me room then because I just started stripping the wallpaper. But uh yeah I was in pretty good shape before camp started because I just done a full camp and then I had like three months of the fight. So it was good. Derby was was Riviera like was he already looking for an opponent or were you the the aside in there and they were going to give match you up? >> H I don't I don't know how it works to be honest. I think it's just like some manager sends in there guys some oh sorry it's down there my dog. Um yeah I think it was just you send in guys they just match them and you don't really get a choice. It's not you want to fight this guy. You say yes to first call or else you don't get a fight sort of situation. So >> Graeme said to me I said yeah my man didn't even ask him his name. Let's do it. And then contracts were sent over within the week and we got the guy's name. >> And did did it say main event on it as well? >> No, it didn't say main event. No, that was it. Later we found that out. >> Okay. Now that that was uh obviously very very cool to see as the main event, but just just in the buildup to it, obviously it's all cloak and dagger. You're signed to the Contender Series. You know, you're you're not even sure of a date. You can't really tell anyone. H how does that how does that go about? Because obviously you have to tell select people because you have to tell people I need to get ready for this in and around this date. Like what's that like trying to have this massive news everything you ever dreamed of and then not being able to share it too wide and far? >> Yeah, I think you kind of keep it within your circle because eventually it's going to leak which it did you know after a few weeks of I tell someone, they tell someone and so on it goes on. So I think I told like obviously rang Andy me coach, told a couple of guys in the gym that night, told me girlfriend, told me family and then I was kept quiet for a while to be fair about six or seven weeks. No one knew. And then one day I woke up and there was like loads of stuff online. Boom and boom. I was like [ __ ] I'm going to get in trouble here but it was fine. They actually don't really care. I could have put it out a little bit earlier probably, but they told the USA tells you not ping out until we tell you to. So just got to play with the rules. and tell us what was that phone call like to Andy Ryan when you told him he got the nod. >> Yeah, he was buzzing. I was buzzing. You know, it's the first guy back in the first guy back in the UFC in 10 years like a team rhino. So, looking forward to it now. Getting a few more as you know Lewis Bourne, J Harris, Solomon Simon, they've all got fights on Cage Warriors in two weeks time. So, looking forward to that. >> Yeah, absolutely. And then uh obviously you went over to Vegas with weeks in preparation. Uh you were doing some training up in Rhino and then you went over to get yourself climb ties get the time difference right you're used to going over to to America but what was like getting over there and then you know having access to the UFC pi as well >> I got some great training in over there you know I done me most me camp here and then I went over to America for the last five weeks a lot of the local businesses like the Kil Madini the pub they all sponsored me so I was able to go over there four or five weeks in advance got some great training I was in extreme couture and the PI training got some good rounds in the So Roman Ditzy, Sean Strickland, and loads of other good guys in the UFC. So that was good to change up the bodies and get some new bodies. You know your sparring guys in team rhino all the time. You know what they're like, they know what you're like. So it's good to change it up and get some new bodies in. >> And tell us this how how are the rounds of trans like because obviously he's a bit of a mad bastard. What's he like to train? >> You know what? He's actually not like you see online. He's actually really nice guy. He's sound. They make you feel very welcome. Like they made sure I had rounds. You know, couple of times I had no bodies to go with. They picked their rounds at the start. So you arrive at spar and you get warmed up and it's like you're one, you're two, you're three, you're four, you're five. I didn't know that to start. So I was kind of standing around looking going, "What's going on?" Nobody's a spar. And Sean be like, "No, you go with Adam. No, you go Adam. He's a fight in two or three weeks." So got to respect that. Like appreciate that. >> Yeah. Shout out Sean Strickland looking. >> Yeah. Shout out Sean Strickland, man. >> Yeah, because Will Flurry actually speaks really highly of him as well. So h you he must have a soft spot for the OIrish lads, >> which is he's mad as well now. He is crazy. like he's he's down for a fight. He seen him having some crazy rounds. We got some great rounds off him, but he is a really nice guy. >> Well, look, that's all we want though. As long as he's respectful, that's all that matters. He can be as crazy as he wants as long as he's respectful. That's all that matters. Otherwise, otherwise, Adam Derby might might start spamming the leg kicks. So, well, I suppose we'll get into the fight. Derby, obviously, you went in there Francisco Rivera main event. Actually, that's the one thing B touched on earlier. When did you find out you were main event? Did you get a phone call or did you just see the poster go out with the fight card and you're like there you are top of the bill? >> I can't even remember. I think it was just I seen the fight card going out was like all right main event let's go. >> And when you were there on the day did that did that feel like any extra pressure being like right I'm last out and especially when you see the fights some of the finishes beforehand and then you're like is there enough for five contracts here? Is there not? You know what I mean? Does that add any pressure or are you just doing Adam Derby on the day? that that never even crossed my mind to be completely honest with you. You know, I was just out there to fight it. It was weird. Like my I made a professional debut on Cage Warriors, my amateur debut on Cage Warriors in 2017 in front of like two and a half thousand people. That was my very first fight ever. I was nervous for that one. And then after that, it's just been like, all right, now we're back in Gaya calls or for amateur. We're back in like halls with 50 people watching. Then I had me professional debut on Cage Warriors. I never really gets before fights. People say, "Oh, you definitely do." I don't. It's not I don't have to be there but I don't want to. Like I always find that interesting when people are super nervous and don't want to fight. It's like you put yourself here. If you don't want to fight, tell them tomorrow and just don't fight. But uh there was no nerves really. I felt good. I I trained so hard throughout the training camp and when I'm not in training camp too that I just feel like if I don't win that night, I was beaten by a better man because I've done everything possible. I haven't left anything unto any stone unturned. My nutrition dialed in. My training's been good. If I don't win, the guy was better on the night. Simple as that. >> Were you thinking at any stage like, oh, what's on the line as well? Or did you just put that to the back of your mind? >> No, I knew I was getting the UFC. I knew I was going to win. That guy wasn't on my level. He was a little bit older. I knew he it was his last chance to kind of make it UFC. At the weigh-ins, I told him to his face. You can see it. This is going to be your last fight. I'll finish you tomorrow. You won't fight again. And I did. I put a beating on him. It was hard to fight because he didn't really want to engage. He was on the back foot throwing big shots, but he wasn't really super engaged. So, we had to kind of change the game plan on the fly and just smash his leg, stop him moving, and then go to work on the body and the head. >> Yeah, it was exactly what you did, man. >> Yeah, it was insane performance, Garby. It really really was. Like I know Dana White was absolutely waxing lyrical about you saying you know you set the leg kick record obviously bar the fin round between and Diaz and then like I I don't think I've ever seen someone leave the octagon uncontended series the way Riviera did like he was absolutely covered in blood from head to toe and it was such a clinical performance. Were you ever worried at some stage that you weren't going to get him out of there? >> No that that finish was I was 30 seconds away from the finish. you know, I had another gear to go up when I was ready to, but there wasn't really a need to. I was picking them apart, doing damage. I knew there was loads of time left. People I still have people online saying, "Oh, Derby hasn't got knockout power." I've never been the guy that comes out and knocks one guy out in the first round with a big punch. That's not my thing. I pick people apart. I don't get touched. I I didn't get hit once. No big shots landed on me and I landed something like 200 significant strikes on him. The the finish was there. I was actually a bit upset that the ref stopped. I was telling the ref as he was stopping it, don't stop this fight because I knew Patrick was done. And you could see it in his face when you watch it back. He didn't want to be there anymore. The fight was stopped and he just kind of said, "All right, yeah, I'm done. If you're if you're fighting in the UFC, it's your last chance." I'd probably be like, "No, I'm not done. Let's go. I'm good to go." He kind of just accepted it. So, I think he wanted a way out as well. >> Yeah. But I think maybe, you know, a lot of people hadn't seen you fight as much. Like obviously this fight had far more eyes on it than any fight you've ever had. But like you've been known to sort of late in the second, sometime in the third to get your stoppages. you you've been known to sort of make make fighters quit and I think at this at this stage you know Riviera was actually too tough for his own good that you know there maybe the corner should have thrown in the flag in the towel at some stage it it was that level of beating. >> Yeah, I see people saying that the corner should have thrown the towel in it. Dana We said the corner should have called it but like you're fighting in the UFC contender here. He's he's 23 24 years old. It's his last shot to make it. Yeah, >> he's not going to throw a towel in. He's going to give it every 15 minutes. It is MMA at the end of the day. There's nothing stopping him landing one quick punch, one big overhand, and the fight's changed, you know. So, I think they're all right to let it keep going to be honest with you. >> Yeah, fair. Fair. When you're looking from that perspective, Yeah. But when you're looking from the perspective of uh you know, somebody who's cheering on Adam Derby, you're like, you're like, geez, like that fell is like a cyborg here. Won't go away. And like, but the thing was he wasn't landing any big shots back. I think he I think he landed one good shot the entire fight. >> Yeah. one one shot in the 408 minutes like Yeah. >> Yeah. So like that that was the only time I was like oh that was actually a nice nice uh nice biggy land. >> Yeah. And I immediately was like all right yeah sound and then I bounced two or three shots off hit went an elbow just to let them know like yeah not this fight. Yeah. >> Also everything you were showing everything you were capable of in there Adam like um just in the buildup as well were did you feel like you were getting much push from the media compared to what happened after? like how much how much like uh how many interactions you get now? I just saw on your Instagram now you have like over 10 million like interactions in the last month. >> Yeah, I think that's actually in the last week. I just had a set on the monthly. But >> yeah, I don't really do social media. You know me, Ross. You know me. >> Yeah, you're terrible at it. >> I'm terrible at social media. >> Selfie like doing my thing. You know, I was in the shop there this morning coming out and training and four people stopped me and were like, "Congratulations." And I'm like, "The fuck." Like this is crazy. Like I had to get used to this. But uh yeah, I'm not really a social media guy, but >> I do live a pretty interesting life. I fight for a living. I don't do anything else. So I probably should be showing it off more. So I'm trying to push it a little bit more now. >> Perfect timing. >> Yeah, >> very much perfect timing. It really really is. And like I think that's that that is one thing about you. Like it you're two totally different people inside and outside the cage. Inside the cage, you're this absolute violence machine and a killer. And then outside the cage, you're almost like a little nerd with your with your with your Marvel pajamas or whatever else you have on. [laughter] You know what I mean? So, it's it's a it's lovely to see you do well. I always think it's is a real win for the good guys doing in there, but like tell us this like when you were talking to him in between rounds, the audio didn't really pick up. What were you saying to him? >> H It's just one of them things you get carried away. You know, it's all said and done now, but during the fight and before the fight, you'd be talking [ __ ] you know, I was telling him during the rounds, you're going to break, I'm going to break you. You're not about it. Stuff like that. And then I don't know if it doesn't show on the broadcast. I'm sure the UFC probably has the footage, but the second going into the third round, he looked at me and I looked at him and his face was like he was cut and hurt and his side of his head was swollen. And I kind of pointed at him and looked at him and said, "You're not about it." I said, "Let's see who wants it." I said, "You kind of want it. I need this. You're getting finished here." And then he didn't answer me and I was like, "He's done. He doesn't want this." And then I kind of went straight at him then. And then obviously when the fight finished you were straight over to Dana White. Was that something you you planned? Were you you were you like I need to like let him know I need this contract? Was that was that what was going through your head? >> H kind of just happens when you're in there. It's like that's like boom and it's over from the start of the day to the finish. I I love fight day. I love the kind of build up to it. going for your breakfast that morning, doing your shake out, having your dinner, watching the last of the guy's footage, you know, checking his Instagram out, checking his footage out, see what he's doing, see if you see any videos and warming up that morning cuz the stuff he's doing that morning, he's probably going to do in the fight. Um, but yeah, I just went over to Dana and he was just saying to me, you broke the record for most leg kicks landed in the UFC fight if this was an official fight. I thought he was going to say he's going to give you 100 grand bonus, but no, [laughter] >> you should have a bit of a buzz off him between the rounds of I found it pretty funny. If you watch it back, you'll see it, but you wouldn't notice it unless I tell you. But between each round, I just kept doing something funny today. So, the end of the first round, I just kind of went gave him a thumbs up when I got back to me corner. The end of the second round, I just kind of went >> I don't know what I was doing. And then I think the last I don't know, I was just like spamming things. >> Yeah, he g he gave me a little Thomas back twice. He was just like And then he gave me a head nod like, "Yeah, you're doing well." Was pretty funny. >> Yeah. Well, the the thing the thing is Derby as well, >> some people obviously go straight into the UFC, but this new way the last few years the way Dana is doing the contender series, people go in and then they get an even like a better push like like obviously uh Prat made his debut there over the weekend in the main event, but I mean like the Sha Maldi's like Jamal Hills, the list goes on like these people get like a nice little push. So, like I'm very excited to see what happens with yourself as well because um the way Dana was waxing the lyrical as Ross said as well after your win was just like he's a big fan. >> Yeah, it's hard not to be. >> It is hard not to be. It's great. It's great when Dana White loves the Irish UFC fighters, isn't it, Ross? >> Yeah, absolutely. And I I I think he's been dying to love a UFC an Irish UFC fighter for a while. And I think Derby could be the guy. like he likes someone who's going to go in there and as I say he's about it and that's all that's all that really matters and obviously you know the more you get to know Adam Derby inside the cage one of the nice guys you'll ever meet and the more you get to see him inside the cage one of the most violent guys you'll ever meet and like that's that's what it's about you know what I mean that's that's what people are going to get behind and that's what's going to make Alan Derby the next welterweight star and I I say you must be buzzing to get in there in you know your your UFC debut and you know get to show the entire world what Adam Derbyy's all about. >> Yeah, I'm ready to go again. I want to fight as soon as possible. I'm back in the gym this morning hitting pads. Going to go lift me weights now and then I'll be up team Rhino tonight. Body's good. I'm ready to go. Give me a date. I want to fight again. >> Absolutely. >> You want it again this year? >> This year derby. >> Definitely this year. 100%. >> Is there any Is there any cards you're looking at being like here, look that that's the one? >> No. Anything. Whatever they tell me, I'm good to go. I don't care. We're fight. Let's do it. >> Yeah. Yeah, cuz even it's in the Apex again, you've already fought there now as well, so you're like, you know what it's all about. >> I I actually like the Apex cards. I think it's it's good. The I hope say the standard of fights isn't as high, but I think the big names aren't really on the Apex card. They're not going to put Conor McGregor on an Apex card, but gives you an opportunity to get a nice bonus. 100 grand. >> Yeah, 100%. And and the taxes. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I already got hit by the tax man from Vegas. >> Yeah. Yeah. That was Ross ratting you out. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> No. Well, look, I I think it's I think it's really really exciting to have someone who who I feel is going to be very very active and I feel like this is also opening the door for the rest of the lads and cage warriors. Obviously, it's a massive card cage warriors uh 26th of September this month. You know what I mean? You'll be there. A lot of lot of people from the from the team fighting on the card. A lot of other people on the card fighting as well. They would all love to be in the position h you are now in. And obviously one thing you said to Dana White is you emptied your bank account to get to Vegas. You went all in on yourself. Uh even the contenders here stuff like I mean as you said Lewis, you have Saul there as well. Um like J Harris wants to make a run as well, but even in other gyms like your Max Li's um >> got Max Patty, there's so many guys coming through like Yeah. >> Yeah. This is very exciting times. Like this is very exciting times. This is the second wave of Irish MMA now. You know, you had you had a couple of people coming through the likes of Ian Gary, but then then again, he walked out with a Brazilian headband on his head. So, is he even representing Ireland? I don't know. But I think this is the second wave of Irish MMA. I think I I don't mind leading the charge if I'm down. And then there's a couple of guys behind me. I think in the next 12 months, you'll see two or three more guys from Ireland, the UFC. >> Then we can make a push. We can make a push for UC Dublin again, can't we? >> We can. I did say that to Dana. I got to be 60 seconds with Dana backstage. I asked him about that. He didn't seem to have any interest, but I said, "Look, give me give me a few months. I'm going to put a few wins together. It might change our mind." >> That's exactly it. >> And Derby, correct me if I'm wrong, you're the first person to get a contract from Ireland for the Contender Series. >> Yeah, fourth person for Contender Series. Yeah. >> Yeah, I thought that. So, like hopefully then maybe they might keep a closer eye on the Irish now after that performance as well. They're going to be like, geez, how many other absolute outrageous fighters are coming over from Ireland? And like look, that's that's what it was. was an outrageous performance. Like you know, I've never seen someone go go in there and do what you did. Like it really was. And also they haven't even got to see your your jiu-jitsu as well. Like yeah, I was telling um who was it? We're at ADCC on Saturday and Kieran Davvern was saying how great it was to see see you get the win and how how good it was for Irish MA in the gym, etc. Uh, and then I was saying, "Yeah, he said he didn't even get to show us jiu-jitsu, but I was saying how good like your chokes are, your triangles, like I mean, we didn't even get to see any of that." I was like, I was like, "He's the Irish Jon Jones." Adam Derby is >> Well, Brian Draper made sure to tell Dana after the fight. He called Dana over >> and he said, "That's the wife Jon Jones right there." And Dana just went stuck to >> Oh my god. >> Yeah. >> No, but no, Darby, honestly, >> Draper for for coming over and supporting you as well. What a legend. >> Oh man, it was great. It was honestly it was great to have. I had a couple of guys there and obviously me partner and me dad and a couple of friends and Brian Draper and I had Teddy Stringer and stuff there but it was great to have Brian there. He's great crack all week. Now he keeps a good buzz life friendly buzz all week before the fight and then after the fight it was great to have him there. >> Yeah, he he did tell me he was devastated he wasn't allowed to do the pad work backstage. That's all I got to say. >> Yeah. So I had a Jake, my jiu-jitsu coach and coach him and Andy. I had them on the pad out the back. It was absolutely hilarious. Jake has never held pad to fight a jiu-jitsu guy. He's MMA boys, jiu-jitsu guy, but uh we had been teaching him all week how to hold the boxing pads. And then we were out to back and I said, "Right, I'm going to do a few kicks." And he kind of looked at me like haven't held a kick before. So I'm like showing him how to position his hands. I'm like, "You keep your hands here. I'm going to do five kicks." And then I have to walk over to him and I face him the other way. I'm like, "No, I'm going to kick this side." And you could tell people looking at us out the back, you know, warming up besides going, "This guy's going to get killed. He hasn't [laughter] clue like how he got here." And then me and Jake started doing a bit jiu-jitsu and then they were probably like, "Oh, never mind. He's all right." Like, but >> yeah, it was great. It was really, really good night. >> They were like, "Just keep it standing against this chop." [laughter] >> You're incredible. But no, people don't know that I have a really good wrestling game. If I want to take someone down and submit them, I can. I haven't had to use that yet, but that's in the locker if I need it. >> Yeah, this is all ahead of you, Derby. Like, it's very exciting for people obviously tuning in and they they they're not too aware of you. Like, they're they better be now that you're in the UFC. Like I think like a lot of I think a lot of people are going to be very excited to see it back in action very soon. And uh no, even the way when you went over to America and then now you're back UC contract. It's uh it's great to see that we've been following your career for so long and it's all working out. And I think any fighter tuning in now can use you as inspiration. You know what I mean? You didn't do a you you didn't it wasn't easy. It wasn't handed to you but uh and you took it with both hands. So congratulations. But >> appreciate that. >> We're only getting started now. Like this is the your foot is in the door now. >> Foot in the door now. Like this is it on the big leagues now and be as active as possible. >> Exactly. Bud Ros say the derby before we wrap things up. >> Yeah. Just want to say now I've been submitted by two UFC fighters now which is which is great. [laughter] >> Who's the other one? Redzer. >> Ah. Come on. >> Come on man. Come on man. You need to get Siri in that as well. >> Yeah. Yeah. I I haven't had the pleasure of rolling with Syria. I haven't felt that. >> Did Barry not get you with his submission as well? No, >> no, no, no, >> no, >> never, never. >> There's time. There's still still time for that, Ross. But, uh, Derby, is there anything you want to say to the people that tuned in once you get your UC contract and you're about to embark on this new UC run? >> Look, this is a this is a solo sport in the sense that I'm in there fighting. I'm the one doing it. But it is a team sport. Couldn't do it without me training partners, me team, me family, me friends, everyone that, you know, messaged me, looks at support, everything. wouldn't be possible without. Just want to say thanks to everyone for believing in me and support me over the years and this is only the start. Let's go. >> I'm sorry. I actually do have one last question. Obviously, uh there was a massive event though on over the weekend in Crow Park and now we've done a combat sports event in Crow Park. Couple years down the line when you're fighting for that UFC title and you win it, would you like to bring it back and defend it in Crow Park? Would that be something you'd love to do? >> Of course. Never mind defending Crow Park, winning it in Crow Park would be unbelievable. That No. Yeah, that was unbelievable. Katy Taylor. She's the best best athlete that I has ever produced in my opinion. You know, she's so humble, so good. Never had any problems, but uh yeah, that was unbelievable to see her win that. >> Yeah. Your sister can't be the only one who was playing in Crow Park. >> Yeah. Oh, that was that's a low blow. >> Well, Derby, also West played at the at the event as well. Like, what band would you have playing? >> Oh, that's a tough one. It's probably don't really care about bands, so whoever. [laughter] Maybe I don't know, maybe Eddie Sherlock or something. King of the road all around the town. Something like that. >> Fair. [laughter] Fair. Yeah. No, I I like it. I like it. A unique one for you, Derby. >> But uh look, man, absolutely congratulations. Can't wait to see the next chapter of this journey. Unbelievable. Opening door for all the Irish talent behind you. And what a way to do it. Sensational. Dana White is your biggest fan. Then me, then Ryan, [laughter] then >> Brian Draper tops them all. >> Yeah. And look, we go for we'll go from one big piece of Irish and May news to the thing that captured all the minds and attention of the weekend. Katie Taylor's retirement fight in Crow Park. Baz, we were there. It was sensational. It was emotional. It was a where were you when moment. It was probably one of the greatest sporting moments in Irish history. Baz. >> Yeah, I know, man. Um, like obviously the week we had, we were like, are we going to be going? Are we not going to be going? And then the day before we were told we were going and we're like savage. Um cuz it just felt like it was going to be massive. And and it was it absolutely delivered. Um there was a lot of >> I think afterwards Baz isn't it that like we might have not been there. >> Yeah. Well that was the thing. Well look look for people that don't know I'm actually on my holidays right now. Went had to go to the airport straight away after the event. So like it was it was I was like am I going or not? >> Still haven't stepped. >> So um but no to be part of that to to witness like greatness for for the last time it was it was unbelievable. And like it just felt very Irish. You know what I mean? like anyone that was a Katy Taylor fan was there. Like there was all types of people there like from like granny's to children like and everything in between. So it just felt like the whole country was united. It hadn't felt it hasn't felt like that in a while. I think like a lot of people complain about the football or they don't really they're not really that interested because the Irish team isn't doing that well or else like the ruby is would be more niche yet again. And then like obviously when you have like the the all Irelands and stuff, it feels very Irish, but you can almost call that a niche in itself. Everything is actually a niche if you think about it. But I think Katie Taylor crosses over to every sport. Like even the way they were showing videos from different Irish stars um like wishing her the best of skill and stuff. You're like it just felt massive. And like I know there was a video going around at the end of Eddie Hearn sort of crying with the Irish tricolor around his neck. Um, it just it was it it was it was everything. Like you're sort of happy and sad at the same time because you're like, "Yes, Katie won. Yes, you got to watch her win and have that emotional time, but then like it's going to be the last time you're ever going to witness someone like Katie ever again." Um, I think even when you spoke to her at the end when we're in the media in the front row, if you haven't seen that Ross talking to Katie, make sure to check it out on the Instagram page. Like you're like, "You're Ireland's most loved person ever." How does that feel? >> Yeah, 100%. But it it it's [clears throat] not even that. It's I don't think there's another nation in the world that loves a sports star more than Ireland loves Katy Taylor. Like I think the only like comparison I can think of is maybe Argentina with Marajana or Messi or maybe Brazil with the Pelle or >> what about like New Zealand the way they love the rugby players. So >> maybe Dan Carter, but like they're also part of a team. Like this is a one individual. I don't think there's most more loved individual sports athlete in the world in their own country than Katie Taylor is. I like you won't find someone say a bad word about her. Like that person doesn't exist. She's the most beloved character this country has ever seen and I don't think it will ever be topped and she not only trans transcends into every household in the country as she said herself she she transcends gender like it's not about she's a female athlete or a male athlete >> like you know I mean there's not a there's not a female in on God's given earth who could single-handedly sell out an 80,000 seater stadium not named Katie Taylor that she >> the amount of respect that she gets as well different level. >> Yeah. Like she is the queen of Ireland. She is, you know, Ireland's favorite daughter. She is the one person in this country. She could she could run for president or t-shock with no political agenda and win. People would just vote for her. They think she's the best thing since sliced bread. And rightfully so. She's never put one foot wrong in her entire career. Yes, obviously at times like she lost Chantel Cameron. Things didn't go her way in Rio. >> Yeah. >> But I've never seen a country rally behind someone so much and back a comeback as much as they did for Katie Taylor. She is an absolute hero. >> Yeah. But like even the way she lost to Chantel Cameron, I think it was actually a good thing for people watching in to be like look she still came back from that but she overcame that hurdle. Like you know what I And a lot of the these days there's a lot of medals for coming 50th, you know. Um that like that that just proves that people like K if Katie can do it like it would inspire way more people rather than just having everything handed to her. Now I wouldn't say Py was her hardest opponent ever but like it was still that was her moment and then people are going to be talking about that till the day we die. >> Yeah. Yeah, but like if you if you think of like Kate Taylor in Irish folklore like people are going to go Kate Taylor like what's her story? She was boxing as a girl and told she wasn't allowed box. She said that's that's not for you. You're not allowed to do that. >> And then she went on and pretended and pretend to be a boy and went and beat all the lads up and then you know revealed she was a girl and then she won box in the Olympics. She wanted to be become Olympic champion and she was told no you're not allowed to do that. girls aren't allowed to do that. Then she went and had an exhibition about in front of the Olympic Commission and they said they said you're allowed to do that. Then she became a professional women's boxer and she was told, "Oh, you'll never headline MSG." Then she went and did that. She was told she never had, you know, no combat sport athlete barely ever fighting Crow Park. She won't be allowed to do that. She did that and sold the entire venue out in 14 minutes. She was told no, no, no her entire career. And every time she was told no, she ignored it and she went on and proved everyone wrong. And she did it with absolute grace and professionalism every step of the way. You will never ever find another athlete that I will wax lyrical about more than Katie Taylor. She is a trailblazer. She is an icon. She is a once in a-lifetime athlete. She's a once in a lifetime person. Yeah, I think everyone would agree that they'd want their like like the their like sister or their daughter to be like, you know, she's the only person who I've ever seen in the peak of their powers in terms of her boxing on a professional level where the Irish fans like there was a bit of a split that some people were willing her to retire because they want her to retire and like keep all her health and have a family and do whatever else. She's the only person I've ever seen like people that want to retire for the good of their health. Most of the time you're asking a fighter to keep on going. Give us one more. Give us one more. You know what I mean? And Katie Taylor to see her not only there go in out there, win every round. The walk out was sensational. She built an undercard for all the up and cominging Irish boxers. and then see her lay her gloves down in the in the in the ring, get on the mic, say all her thank yous, you know what I mean? How even let West Life be be uh the co-main event like sensational stuff and then see her in the ring with all her family and all her belts laid down there was just a sight to behold. It really really was. And one thing that probably was maybe not captured on TV is not a sinner left the stadium until Katie was taking started taking photos of her family. She held the audience there for 20 minutes, half an hour after the fight. It was some of the some of the best moments in sport I've ever seen. >> Yeah, we've been to some pretty cool events, man. I think that that's that's right up there. >> I think it's number one for me. Like like I don't think I can pretend that that wasn't the best thing I've ever been at. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Really was. Let's see if Cage Warriors 210 can beat it, man. >> Yeah, let's see. Let's see. But, uh, look, obviously, Cage Warriors 210 will be a fantastic event, but we do want to touch on the the rest of the fight. Obviously, >> in the in the lead supporting act, H, Thomas Carti fought Dave Allen, and it had one of the most bizarre finishes I've seen in all my time watching boxing. Um, it was the first round. Dave Allen. They sort of clean struck Dave Allen landed a punch back Thomas Cart's head and he went head first out in between the ropes spaz. It was very much what the hell just happened there moment from inside the stadium. Didn't know what had happened and then we had about I'm going to say three or four minutes of not knowing what was going to go on. At first, I think me me and you both went, "Oh, did like the mess of his leg when he fell out of the out of the ring and then saw the replay on one of the screens that he actually went head first with like no hands to break the fall. So obviously he must have been somewhat knocked out cuz no one falls face planting especially out of the ring like down what three or four feet on onto the floor." >> And he went fast as well. >> Yeah, very very fast. And then I was sitting there thinking like I don't know the boxing rules as well as I might know the MMA rules. I was like if he gets up is he allow fight on or is he not allow fight on or what was going on? And then long >> a lot of people were thinking that Ross you weren't alone in that man. >> Yeah. And then the longer went on I was like all right this fight is definitely not going to continue. Um and then and then there was the is it going to be a knockout? Is it going to be a DQ? Is it going to be a no contest? Like what what are they going to call it? Obviously eventually was called an O contest. But uh look that was a tragic ending for Thomas Carti. Uh obviously one of the greatest prospects in Irish boxing, maybe the largest prospect in Irish boxing from a from [snorts] a superstar standpoint, a heavyweight boxer who's been brought into camp by Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, um Dylan White, all the top boxers Shora have had Thomas Carti as part of their camps. Everyone speaks so highly of him. H this was a massive moment for him fighting in front of the 80,000 people. The stadium was full when Thomas Carti was making his walk out. The pop for Thomas Carti was massive when he was there. >> No Cardi, no party. >> Uh was uh making his walk out. His his robes look absolutely slick. He looked like he was ready to rock and look that's absolutely devastating. Obviously he had the knee injury when he fought over in Madison Square Garden as well. So uh look that that's been two really really harsh setbacks from Thomas Carti. haven't seen him release statements or anything to talk about it since. Um, so look, I I just hope he's doing okay cuz he he was on the ground for quite an extended period of time after he fell. >> Yeah, man. Um, see the thing is when it actually happened, I think I I was looking at you and looked back and then all of a sudden I was like, there's someone missing in the ring there. Um, >> yeah, man. I don't even know what you call that. That was just >> I think the most important thing is we haven't heard from him, so like hopefully physically he's actually doing all right. Yeah, I hopefully he is. I feel like he is, but I feel like that's after hitting him because look the big opportunity he had in New York as well. He broke his leg during the fight. This massive opportunity that's after happening. I'm sure like Yeah, hopefully physically and mentally more so. He's all right. But like there are two big opportunities there just haven't gone the right way due to unforeseen circumstances. Um, obviously Thomas was hit twice in the back of the head. Once earlier on and then second time falling out of the ring like that. Where do we go from here? Only God knows. And um I'm sure Thomas will be back as well. Hopefully he's not injured. That's the most important thing. >> Yeah, definitely. Definitely. >> Yeah. >> Um we'll touch on a few other fights on the card. Obviously Patty Dunovan beat Tyrone McKenna. Toy McKenna. I think that'll be the last we'll see of him, but that was bit of a war in itself. H Patty Dunovan. I think most people thought he was going to win that one going into it. He was a heavy favorite, but Tyrone McKenna, as he always does, made it uh much more of a scrap than people probably were expecting and uh Patty Thunderman got the job done. I think he'll probably be fighting for a world title next. So, huge opportunity for him. Uh unfortunately, Emma Brennan did not win against uh Taylor Beavenon and that was actually quite a vicious knockout in the end, but Emma Brennan has been back online since to say he's all right. He'll probably do one or two more fights and then call it a day. So hopefully he is okay because that uh that knockout was quite vicious in the end. >> Shield. >> He definitely did. And um look, as he said, he's probably tougher than a better boxer. Um which can go against you at times. Um [snorts] obviously Molly Mac won. Um, great to see uh another female fight on the Katy Taylor undercard and very fitting that it was Katy Taylor's cousin Molly Macan fighting on the card and >> and she just she just got engaged as well at Bray. >> Yeah, she did indeed. She got engaged at uh at Bray the Redeemer. Um Ireland's answer to Christ the Redeemer. Um but fair play to Macan supported by uh the one and only Patty Pimlet in the in the crowd and then also walked the um ring by Maverick Saver as well. So that was that was pretty uh cool and iconic to see. Um earlier [clears throat] on the card we had Bobby Flood win. H he had a vicious body shot finish in his fight. uh Adam Loyan won and then there was a bit of controversy with Paul Ryan as the scorecards were called out wrong and he was called out as the loser. They said Patty Gallagher won and they had to come back out to the ring and announce uh Paul Ryan as the winner. >> They didn't they didn't bring them the fighters back out to raise their hands around, did they? >> No. No, they Well, I didn't see Paul Ryan come back out, but they announced in the >> Well, see, you know what the thing about that is obviously obviously he won in the end. He was right. Yeah, but those iconic photographs that we'll probably never have another opportunity to do again don't exist now. >> Yeah, Patty Galler can show his hand being raised. >> Yeah, I won that fight for L the announcer said it. But like those pictures Well, obviously because we work in social media, but like in fairness, who doesn't work in social media these days creating content? But uh >> yeah, he should have been brought back out. >> Yeah, that's like Yeah, man. Like is he ever going to have that opportunity again? Probably not. Well, you still won at the end day. Like I know this is nothing got to do with us but we're doing this nearly like 11 years and like we've been promoting Katie Taylor since the Olympics and um to see it go full way and then the way we were at the ADCC Ireland covering jiu-jitsu and then in between we're covering MMA and then we're covering boxing the same night like it's just uh it's cool to see how our hard work is is turning out as well and uh we haven't changed man 11 years never changed nothing else has changed >> no absolutely >> we've gotten worse looking but that apart from that we haven't changed. >> Speak for yourself. >> Okay, I'm I'm eding that part out. Don't worry. Um Ross, yeah, overall epic night. Like we cannot wait to see what is the next Irish boxing event that is going to come here. Um whether it be Queensbury Zufa or Mashum or obviously JB Boxing Promotions with Conports would be interesting to see what they are doing as well. I know they actually have an event coming to Dublin on the same night as Cage Warriors 210 as well. So, we will keep you up to date at that as well. No, so overall great night, great fight, just a legendary moment. It was It's your we just everyone witnessed history. All the pubs way were showing it and all as well, you know. Um the country felt united. I think that was the best the country's felt since not only Adam Derbyy's win on Dana White Contender Series, but the time before that when Troy Parah got the the hat-tick goal for Ireland. against Hungary. That that that was another that was another beautiful day. So Ross, before we wrap things up, we were also working at ADCC Ireland's Irish Open over Saturday in DCU. Um first of all, I want to shout out the whole entire team, ADCC Ireland team, from Kieran to Shane and to everyone involved, especially at Jamie as well to Jamie Dabvern. Um for like >> the real queen of the show. It's uh it's an event like no other with a lot of star talent and then stars that come through every single time as well. Um the personalities, the the support that people get, the content that is made, the finishes, um the camaraderie, and obviously the winners with the belts and the medals, and even the losers as well. It's in jiu-jitsu. It's all about taking part as well. But obviously winning is the best thing about it. Ross, you know yourself. Um Ross, what did you make of ADCC Ireland's event? It's our fourth event we've been part of. >> Yeah, man. I thought it was actually great. Uh I was just moving there. We put out over 70 pieces of content on the day. Uh [laughter] which is >> Yeah. >> Obviously a lot. like you mean like uh it was great to see people were people are so like nice to us and so happy to see us there and supporting the jiu-jitsu athletes and that's what it's all about and at the end of the day uh uh Karan Davin and Jamie and Shane Smith and co all put on unbelievable uh event on the day and we're so glad to be part of it really do feel like we're massively part of the team we're there and all all the ref staff and um the judges they're all working towards for the same goals as well, which is really really cool to see. So, I I'm totally here for it. And I suppose the jiu-jitsu was as always really really high level, some unbelievable matchups and some really cool and interesting results. Um, I was a massive fan of it, Basmo, I suppose. Let's get into the actual competitors and the spotlights that were on them. >> Who who shone for you, Basmo, on the day? Who who who were people that you were like right they're they're a bit [snorts] of all right. >> Right. So you ask me who who do I think actually did the best or who impro impressed me the most? >> A bit of both. Bit of both. Okay. Well obviously Eric Souza winning the absolute pros. Um he's >> sorry >> fifth time winner. >> Yeah. There's just something about his style, how he's like so thick and like a rhino in there, but um you can just see he has like a million reps behind him like and they can beat Muhammad in the final and like I was watching some of Muhammad's highlights back as well. The way he's he the way he goes about his work is very like so chilled out, very like just just relaxed and he just eases into it, but he's already like 10 steps ahead. Um, there are two and then also I have to give a shout out obviously obviously Zam Riierro as well is someone who I really like watching as well like he'll go against any person any size and then obviously Warren Perry very impressed Warren Perry um I know you gave his granny a hug and everything but he he reminds me a bit of Patty the body just the way he's very off the cuff but very exciting as well. Obviously, they're all in the same gym, so he's probably getting a bit of a rub off him as well. But, uh, >> you want you want to see that sort of >> similar stream. Yeah. You just want to see you like when bring people bring a bit something different and you're like they have a bit of star power to them and these guys definitely have it. Obviously, there's loads more people as well that I enjoyed watching. Like I give a shout out to Charlie O'Brien, H, Yehore. Um, obviously the one of the loudest people in the room as always, Shane Gleason as well. Um, >> one pro absolute masters. You see, I'm I'm I'm like shouting out everyone here. So, like, >> don't worry, man. There's plenty of people for me to shout. >> No, man. I'm robbing all the people you're you're getting uh you're shouting out, but uh and then obviously another person I have to give a shout out to as well here. Aaron Skully as well was another person that really impressed me. Um Ross, give us a few names there as well. [snorts] Yeah. Well, you shout out Aaron Skully. I'm going to shout out uh Josh Scully because Josh Scully was really, really impressive. I feel like plenty of times he's been to ADCC Ireland and hasn't given the best count of himself and I felt like on this occasion he did give the best count of himself. Really, really impressive out there. I thought that was a great performance and he walked away w with a gold medal. Um, another [clears throat] person who I was very impressed with was Graeme Sheen. I thought Graeme Sheen did really, really well. Had a very close match with Muhammad. He actually beat Chang Sweeney early one the earlier rounds as well. [snorts] And yeah, I just thought he did an absolute uh fantastic job on the day. Very very entertaining stuff from him. Um Young Max uh Maks from Her Grapple, he was really really good in the intermediate category. Thought he was really good. H Dylan Wheatley from Richie Ivory. He lost the final um I think um [clears throat] against I'm actually not too sure who he lost. Was it Toby Hughes? I think it was. Uh he was very very impressive. Toby use was also impressive. Very very impressive from Limick Slide Boy. Um great to watch. Adam Duffy was double goals. >> Very >> I was going to say I was going to say him as well. Yeah. >> Impressed with him. H thought he did a great job. H AJ a doggy. I thought he was really really good. He's another absolute ball of a character to watch out for. So I was I was very impressed with him. And then man, I was I was so impressed with uh Muhammad's back takes. I thought they were so so slick. And marked out as well. Got some nice submissions. But uh one other person was Gabrielle Bau uh who actually beat Warren Perry in in the final uh in the intermediates. I thought he was absolutely slick as always. He walked walks home with double goals from the intermediates as well. The absolute division. I think it was the under 91 kilo division. So yeah, unbelievable stuff. Basmo. Uh they were all some really really high level matchups that I I thoroughly enjoyed watching. >> Yeah, like I know people were giving out that I didn't get to put out my top five people to watch out for at 80C Ireland, but um >> So you top 15 after the fact, [laughter] >> my top 1,000 athletes to watch at 80C Ireland. But uh no, like people look when Kieran does it, everyone like gets into the comments, especially Shane was gle was was getting interactive. I I think the jiu-jitsu community is is dead. Like just the way everyone goes about their things. Everyone's >> in the comments cracking jokes, this that and the other. It's um it's very it's fun because the thing is like they don't actually have to kick each other's asses. They just have to roll on the mat and then the other person chokes the other person now or the other person now. >> Um and you can do it anywhere every weekend whereas obviously with the fight it's like I don't like you, I don't like you. We have to be on the same promotion. We won't probably can't fight for at least six weeks, you know. Um but I think anyone come up to you and mentioned that you were you you gave him a shout out on the top five. I think I think um Warren Perry definitely did, didn't he? >> Yeah, he did. Yeah. Um >> the granny as well. You got Did you get a picture with the granny? >> Yeah, I got a picture with the granny. Yeah, >> Sandra. Legend. So, man, it's it's mad how like you just have a chat. >> Man, you say one thing and then all of a sudden the entire family loves you. So, there's two Marinas. We have to go. >> Yeah. So, no. Marina Castro uh won the absolute female division. She beat Alexander B in the final went to overtime. They also fought first silver and gold I think in in their weight class as well at 65 kilos. >> Yeah. >> So, uh >> Yeah. cuz I want to cover something here because some when Ross gave his top five and Kieran gave his top five, someone said, "How come you're not shouting out any of the women?" >> Yeah, but there just wasn't enough women competing at the event. It'd be great if we had more women competing at the event. If more women are competing at the event, we'll make sure to shout them out. The women get as much coverage as the men from us in relation to how many competitors there are, if not even maybe slightly bit more if we can. H I did ask Marina Castro on camera, how's it feel when she won? And she says, I am Brazilian. I was like, "Cool." [laughter] >> Me, too. Yeah. I was like, "Oh, that." But, um, look, if if there's more women competitors, then we'll we'll definitely be more supportive of um maybe we'll have a chat with Kier on in the build's next event and how we can get more women to compete.
