Kieran Davern, head coach of Area Grapple and organiser of ADCC Ireland, previews the ADCC Irish Open on Saturday 5 September at DCU — the promotion’s biggest and final tournament of 2026 — with €1,000 absolute prizes and registration on Smoothcomp. He discusses past winners such as John Luke Maltese and Eric Sousa, international entrants, and competitors to watch including James Andrew Barrett and Carl in the intermediate divisions. Davern outlines plans to keep a similar ADCC Ireland schedule in 2027 while working on a new invitational, and launches the Midlands Combat League 1 on 10 October: novice MMA without head strikes plus a catch-wrestling-style submission wrestling ruleset that penalises guard pulling. He highlights Area Grapple fighters Ronan Deegan, who he says is four-and-0 as a pro with a Cage Warriors debut in about three and a half weeks against Billy Sulleran, and James Courtney, who he says won his recent bout in roughly 44 seconds at 66 kg and may turn pro within a year or two. The hosts also discuss Katie Taylor’s Croke Park farewell, Shane Mullen at PFL Romania, and UFC Paris.

[music] >> The Energy Show up the orders. >> Okay, here we go. >> [screaming] >> Okay, what's going on guys? Welcome to a brand new episode of Energy Show brought to you by our King's Competitions. Ross >> intoxicated or something? >> Introduce the guest, man. >> Today we have one of the most busy men in Irish combat sports. It is the head coach of Area Grapple. It is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt competitor and the main man when it comes to ADCC Ireland. It's the one and only Kieran Tavern. Kieran, how are you getting on? >> Oh, good. Thanks for the introduction and thanks for having me on. I appreciate it. >> Kieran, you've been flat out the last couple of weeks coaching but all things are leading to this upcoming weekend, the Irish Open, the biggest ADCC competition of the year in Ireland. How excited are you and how much are you looking forward to this event? >> Yeah, really excited for it. Obviously the ADCC Irish Open is the is the biggest one that we do and be our last tournament of the year. So we always really look forward to this one. Kind of brings out like some of the best in the country and it always kind of you know it's always a fun day. >> Yeah, it absolutely is and we were only touching off air like the last couple of winners, John John Luke Maltese, Eric Sousa, May Mongolianski. Like these are some of the best competitors in the country. How cool is it that you're putting on this show and all the best competitors in the country want to get on it? They want to win it. They want to win that really really cool belt. >> Ah, it's very good obviously cuz without the competitors um there's you know there is none. It's the it's the competitors that make the tournaments and uh you know they deserve deserve to to make money and they deserve the the spotlight and to be highlighted by the likes of yourselves and you know everyone else that kind of promotes them and that. So, yeah, again, but the the competitors are the ones that make the tournament and all all respect to them. >> Kieran >> Yeah, just Kieran, just obviously touching on that as well, like who would be the most popular competitor do you think that has ever competed in ADCC, Ross? >> By yourself. >> By yourself. >> [laughter] >> Cheers, I don't know. Like, it's hard to it's hard to say one individual, but there's been so many good people over the years, you know what I mean? You've had like, obviously, you have like say your Will Florry, who's absolutely flying at the moment, you know what I mean? And like say his following his following's after going through the roof, you know, over the last couple of years with the the wins and that that he's got on on Octagon and that. So, he's obviously he's doing really well. You obviously have like say John, who's doing really good. You know, he had a big win there on Polaris recently. And like say he's obviously building his name and has built his name, you know, a lot since the first ADCC. So, it's very hard to kind of pinpoint one person, but there's so many good people that have competed. Like you've had like say young Max Lally and you know, you've had like say, you know, to shout a few MMA guys you've got like Alexander Sullivan and you know, you've had loads of good lads, like say jiu-jitsu lads and MMA lads and and wrestlers and stuff like that. So, it's very hard to kind of say just one. >> Like, it's cuz like covering the the jiu-jitsu scene even more over the last year, especially like there there seems like so so many funny and interesting characters and the way anytime any posts go out like they all sort of interact with in the comments with each other. It's it's very interesting group of people, Ross, isn't it? >> Yeah, it really really is and I think it's great to be able to shine a spotlight on some of these guys and some of these guys are really really good characters and they're at the top of their field. Like, one person who like obviously from going from covering MMA to covering jiu-jitsu, like I didn't know anything about Shane Sweeney or Shane Gleeson or Shane Sweeney Gleeson, whatever way. And then once I saw the guy, I was like, "Geez, he's a bit of an enigma, that fellow." Like, massive fan, like, so friendly, such a nice guy, but like, obviously an absolute beast on the mats. He's like, he's just a massive character. And you met loads of them, you know what I mean? Like, and you know, I'm a big fan of Matthew Bout Booth from Yoda. He's He's a He's a blue belt. Might be a purple belt now, but he he he he's someone who, you know, um has a bit of sass to him where where he competes. And like, I'm all about that. And you can see that sort of throughout the community, you know? There's different people and everyone's so sort of friendly with each other and it's great to see and um I think myself and Barry are actually grateful to yourself for having us work with you ADCC because it's really helped us get more ingrained in the jiu-jitsu community and realize that there are characters there that do need a bit more spotlight shown on them. >> Yeah, 100%. [clears throat] And like, again, I think it's just it's you know, as I said, like, as Shane, for example, like Shane, you know, he him and his team, they bring like good energy and you know, that's that's what makes the event fun, you know what I mean? Obviously, like, when you're competing in that, you want to you want to do well and you want to win and you know, all the kind of obvious stuff, but like say, just like you know, when people are kind of like bouncing off each other and, you know, having a having a bit of crack and chatting in between matches or after matches and, you know, there's a bit of chanting going on on the sideline and cheering and that. That That just makes it, you know what I mean? It creates an atmosphere and stuff like that. So, we're again, we're we're grateful for all the lads that have supported us since the first ADCC that we've kind of run and hopefully we can continue to to grow grow the tournament and the support in 2020 next year, sorry, and and this one, obviously, you know what I mean? >> Yeah, this is obviously the last one of the year. As you said earlier, it goes down in DCU >> Yes. >> Saturday, September the 5th. And like, this will be the third show from ADCC Ireland this year. How many shows you plan on having in in 2027? >> Um so, we could probably keep it in around the same the same amount of shows, but we or but we would like to do um we're still kind of working in the background as of now to set up a an invitational event. So, I know we've kind of talked about it for a little while. It's just trying to kind of get the right venue. And once we kind of have that nailed down, hopefully we'll have an announcement on that pretty soon. So, um but we just want we just want to obviously where we compete and train and live the martial arts lives ourselves, and it's just like with all the equipment there, we've like, you know, everything that you need to run tournaments and events. Um so, it's like if we can if we can put on kind of cool shows and events, then why not do it? Or what why not do it because otherwise there's a it's just sitting there kind of collecting dust, you know what I mean? And it's a bit of fun, it's a bit of crack, and it helps the community and kind of it helps from promote everyone all of us. Gives us all a platform to coach and compete and, you know, get our names out there and everything else that we have to do depending on what your goals are and so on. >> Yeah, look, I think ADCC Ireland Invitational will be a really welcome addition to to the the scene. Like, obviously we saw some other cool shows. Like, a lot of the competitors compete in all of them. Like, we saw the money pit have their show, which was which was a really cool concept. We saw the boys do theirs. That was really cool. And then we saw the Irish J there at the weekend. So, like, it's really really cool to see these competitors. And again, like we love seeing it. And we feel like ADCC is such a staple. It's such a massive part of the jiu-jitsu community community. And obviously myself and Barry cuz we cover so much MMA, you see some of the MMA guys fighting or competing at ADCC, and you're like, they're really good at MMA. And then I feel like then if a jiu-jitsu guy comes in and beats him, you're like, "Wow, they must be really really good to beat those guys." And I feel like that's always the litmus test I'm watching. I'm like I'm like, "Wow, that fellow is very very very impressive." And I love watching that. I think it's I think it's really really cool cuz like some sometimes you see the amateur martial arts champions, uh you know, they they they have a belt so you're like, all right, they're definitely good and then, you know, they get submitted. Sometimes sometimes the cheese goes submit them in under a minute and you're like, Jesus, that's very very impressive. And that's that's what I love it and like, you're constantly getting new stars out on the on the BJJ scene and also you sort of look at some of the guys going Jeez, they're very very good. I can't wait to see them like the fellow who won the money pits Altiora is in the heavyweight bracket on the pro side. You know what I mean? Like he's a very good user. That's going to be a very interesting match up if they fight each other. And that's the thing, you sort of look at the brackets and you nearly be salivating at the mouth looking at some of the match ups that you're going to get. >> Yeah, there's great matches and then you always you always get the people from different countries who we don't know yet. >> [clears throat] >> And we've had so many people that like just like actually traveling, like you know, from from Portugal and Poland and all these, you know, different types of place across Europe, even the US and that, you know, and it's like you don't you don't know them and then they look like going on a you know, going on a tear and then you're like, oh, who's that guy and you kind of look a little deeper into them and you're like, oh, this lad's actually, you know, really good lad from Poland or Italy or whatever, do you know what I mean? And then and then that being said, you see some good lads coming in, good black belts and then you see the Irish lads beating them, which is also good good good for the local lads as well, do you know what I mean? So it's like it kind of works both ways. >> Yeah, that's the thing like I feel like every time we do one of these shows, someone really puts their hand up and like take notice of me like I remember I I I can see Christian Ryan who's out of the Kings Court Academy here. You're one of your uh pupils James Andrew Barrett and like he was really good and I was like, wow, that fellow is an absolute killer and he's up again uh >> He's very he's very good. He was training with our MMA team this morning and that and he's he's he's going to be very good. Like he's a he's a really good mover and obviously Andrew's done a great job of coaching him, but uh he's he's very uh he's kind of he moves really well. He's a natural mover, if that makes sense, and he seems to pick up uh technique pretty well and pretty fast. So, definitely one to watch out for him in the intermediate division as well. >> 100% and then you also have Carl here who just went and won the Deck Card Welterweight title. Young youngest amateur. >> Yeah. Another kid. >> Uh and uh he's in the 76 kg intermediate. So, like there's there's all these guys who sort of have like large followings or who are making making a name for themselves competing on the mats. I I think it's absolutely wonderful. And I also say the way the show is run and like how everyone's treated the exact same. It doesn't matter if you're John Luke Maltese or you're a white belt beginner, you're everyone's the same on the mats. I think I think it's really really cool to see and >> Yeah. I think it's just that that personal thing, isn't it? It's like bringing the thing from bringing that respect and, you know, the same the same as the way you treat your teammates in the gym, you kind of treat like everyone else at the tournament because like we're all kind of chasing the one thing, you know what I mean? Whether you're a coach or a fighter or an athlete or whatever it is, you know what I mean? We're all we're all trying to better ourselves and, you know, uh give our teams opportunity and, you know, obviously you know, do well in competition and everything else that comes comes with it. And so, it's hard not to respect people when they respect you as well, you know what I mean? So, I think it's like a two-way street. >> Yeah, abso- absolutely. Kieran, speaking of respect, you're also starting the new Midlands Combat League on October 10th. Can you tell us a bit about that as well cuz it was just announced >> Yeah, so the the Midlands Combat League is um basically a tournament uh format that we've kind of put together and it's uh two-part as of now. So, it's like novice MMA uh with no head shots, so kind of like the way the old MMA leagues uh used to be. So, to create like even a little bit more of a stepping stone for kind of, you know, people who are training 6 months or a year, a and a half depending on um how long they're training to get more experience um without getting punched in the head, you know what I mean? And then they can kind of dip their toes there even further head shots off and stuff like that. That's That's our first event with the MMA side of it. Young kids up to um kind of adults. Um but the the other side of it is we're running like uh submission wrestling. So submission wrestling, the rule set that we're going with is very similar to catch wrestling. So it's basically it's three pins to win. Each pin Each pin equals two points. So if you get six points, you win. Now if you go for a submission or something like that and your back is on the floor and you pin yourself to the to the mat, um your opponent gets two points and then the match is uh restarted restarted with standing on the feet. So the whole thing is to help uh obviously wrestlers can kind of test, you know, test their wrestling. Um young jiu-jitsu athletes or MMA guys can uh work on their wrestling and test their wrestling. Um and the whole goal is to not be on your back and to be on top. So that's the whole goal. So you can end the match by pinning your your opponent three times or by uh submitting them. And there's all levels from beginner, intermediate to advanced. All weight classes, uh kids to adults and masters. So it's really exciting. We're really excited about it. It's uh it's going to be really good to help like promote that kind of like wrestling culture even more uh especially especially within the grappling community, not just the uh wrestling community. Um it gives MMA guys a chance to compete in wrestling with submissions without guard pulling. Uh so you get penalized for guard pulling. If you pull guard once, you get a warning, you're stood back up on the feet. If you do it a second time, you get two point deduction. And if you do it a third time, you're DQ'd. Um so that's kind of like some of the rule set in a in a nutshell. The submissions are similar to ADCC's uh submissions uh And so that's that's really the kind of thing in a nutshell. So it's just to give people the opportunity to improve and work their wrestling. >> Yeah, well, that's Milan's Combat League going down in October 10th. Make sure to get in touch with Kieran about that if you're interested in taking part cuz uh yeah that's something that's very appealing to the the Irish combat scene. >> Yeah, absolutely, and it's very much needed. There's not enough um competitions in general uh south of the border. Uh I'd I'd even include jiu-jitsu in that as well. I feel like there's a a lot up north of the border and like that's great. I'm sure everyone in the country is grateful for that, but uh I feel like we have EFC down here in terms of the main show and there's not much else happening. I think there's national leagues every now and then, but uh I feel like this is a a great stepping stone for people who are starting their martial arts journey and then also a great stepping stone for people who [snorts] want to probably be having a more MMA-style based grappling game and about being on top and making sure that you're you're chasing the finishes. So, I think it's a really great opportunity and I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out and look, we're going to try and support the show in whatever way we can cuz uh that's what we do here. So, we're really looking forward to that. Absolutely no problem. Anyone who Anyone who's doing combat sports in Ireland and like if we can help anyway, we're more than happy to do so and especially somebody who's trying something new for the first time. I think that's really really important. And one thing I I also want to touch on is uh Kieran, the gym's flowing at the moment. You know, the guys are doing really really well. Ronan Deegan's up September 26th in Cage Warriors. Massive opportunity for him. Big step up for his career. And James Courtney was up in Virgin Active the other day. I think it was a 44-second standing TKO and that man looks like a problem. Tell us this Tell us a bit about those two and then tell us who else who else making the waves in the gym that we're we're not seeing as frequently. >> Yeah, so I suppose to with Jay Courtney cuz that was most recent. Uh He obviously had a really tough opponent. He fought Marley from and he was on a three-fight win streak and it was Jay's first his first time fighting at 66. So I think that's kind of his new weight class and he's he's a bit of size for it and a bit of reach and everything else. So Jay Jay is he's a hard worker. I know every kind of coach says that about you know any of your fighters and that but genuinely he's he he's real good like fight IQ and just seems to be improving every week and he's consistent and the biggest thing that Jay has going for him is outside of like how hard he works and that is he literally has like bricks in his hands. He hits he hits really hard. I don't know if it's like God given kind of natural power without taking away any of you know the the work he's putting in and stuff like that but he do he when he hits people he kind of hits different. So that's I think do you know some people have like an X factor whether it's you know whatever it is but I think like his X factor is like if he if he if he clips you you know obviously he'll he'll do damage and that. So yeah, I'm really excited for Jay. He's still very young. He's in his early 20s he's like 24 or something like that so he still has a lot of time to develop and that so he hopefully within the next year or two he'll be turning pro and I will kind of you know get him going in the same direction that Ronan Deegan's going. Yeah, and Ronan's obviously fighting on Cage Warriors in three weeks time. Really good really good test for him. I think like say on the national scene it's a really good match up. You know the two of them didn't meet at amateur I think they're meant to meet a couple of times. Billy Sulleran is really good. He's eight and one as an amateur. Obviously undefeated as a pro. Ronan obviously you know really really good amateur pedigree had 15 amateur fights and he's four and 0 now as a pro. I just I just really feel that Ronan is he got to show glimpses of the improvements in his game and the level that he's at with the last fight he had he fought like a 22 fight veteran. >> [snorts] >> And I think the guy he fought was like he was legit, you know what I mean? He was like he was tough and I think those three rounds are really good for Ronan going into this this next fight. So, I feel that Ronan is just trending in the right direction and I feel he's going to bring something a little bit different to this fight along with the stuff that he does really well, but there's some stuff he's been working the last the last couple of years and I feel it's starting to come to fruition now in training and everywhere else. So, I'm really excited for that. So, that's 3 and 1/2 weeks and I think he sold the biggest amount of tickets as of this week with anyone that's been selling tickets on Cage Warriors. That's what we were told. There's still a lot more to buy tickets. So, there's definitely going to be a huge um pop from the from the crowd for Ronan. A lot of people from the Midlands driving their tractors up and everything else. So, should be a bit of crack. >> Yeah, the Offaly chants will be will be loud and heard and look, he's he's he's definitely a solid prospect and I think you're right. I think getting those uh that 15 minutes in his last fight considering it was a rear naked choke time after time after time the first three fights. I think getting the 15 minutes in is massive for him and look, but he Sutherland is absolutely no slouch whatsoever. As I said, 2 and 0, held a few titles at amateur as well, beat the likes of Keem McAuley as well who's who's now a Keem McAuley. Let me mute there for a second. Yeah, Keem Keem McAuley there which is obviously no slouch as well. So, look very interesting to see the fight happen and look, it's a it's a real treat for the neutral as well. So, big fight and then yeah, shout out to James Courtney. That was like absolute hands down in the last fight. Hope Marley Mulgrew is doing all right because he was seriously rocked after the fight and it's really >> Yeah, you don't want to see anyone get hurt. Yeah, you don't want to see anyone getting hurt, Peter, do you know what I mean? You want everyone to go back home to their family and that like say and or you know with the least amount of damage as possible. So yeah, um as far as I know he's doing okay at the minute and we're talking and that but yeah, hopefully he's he's all good too. >> Yeah, I I could see I could see James Courtney going collecting quite a few amateur belts in the near future. >> Yeah, he he's that he definitely is he definitely is one to watch and I think the pro game is going to even suit him even more with the four arms gloves and the five minute rounds and stuff like that. So we'll we'll keep him going. We've kind of like a plan for him over the next the next 12 months and if everything kind of works out in the direction that we feel that will go and he gets the the correct tests in that amateur then we'll kind of hopefully do something maybe turn pro maybe next year or something like that. We'll see how see how things go but yeah, just kind of keep training keep collecting fights and getting in getting experience and uh you know making the mistakes at amateur and then hopefully that that helps him then going forward as a professional. >> Yeah, Kieran just before wrapping things up as well. I think actually wasn't the James he's going to have a kid as well? >> Yeah, he did actually. So yeah, great great week. He he got the win all the way and just announced he is going to be a daddy. So which is great. So congratulations to him and his his misses and that. So it's it's really good. That's that's the beauty about running a gym as well is like you know you see like young lads and they kind of just start to kind of get you know to get a bit of momentum in life and things start to go well and you know that's that's one of the best things when you see someone that comes through your doors and you know they're beginners and you don't really know them and you know they've different history and stuff like that and then you kind of see them growing into you know just good good men and good people and that, you know what I mean? So it's it's really good to see that he's he's enjoying life and everything's going good for him. >> Now it's good to see him back now. Wait till he gets that dad strength. >> That's the truth. >> [laughter] >> And then just the last thing Kieran as well. Like obviously now the Rowan has signed finally with Cage Warriors. This has been going on like a long while could he have signed with Octagon etc. but like this is done like how big is that for the gym as well to be like right I know obviously it wasn't just signing with Cage Warriors wanting him to become a world champion but like now you're finally putting your foot in the door. >> Yeah. Yeah, it's a So it it it felt right, do you know what I mean? Number one cuz that was the goal and it's just kind of like another another step towards the the his his main goal, you know, obviously uh the the next goal is to win his Cage Warriors debut and go in and perform and and you know, show the stuff that he's been working in the gym and then there'll be other tests and steps that we'd like to tick off, you know, as we go along and stuff like that. But uh yeah, it's it's it's really good because it shows the the younger lads coming through, you know, the the novices and the new the newer amateur MMA guys that there is a path towards um, you know, the professional ranks and that there is the stuff that you are doing does work if you're willing to put in the work, listen to your coaches, listen to your listen to your teammates. If you trust the process and you show up every day and you're consistent and that um, you know, you're you're going to you're going to achieve your goals, whether that's you know, whether it's you know, not even whether it's one direction or not. It's like it's not going to be linear. Do you know what I mean? So just So the biggest thing that, you know, I've kind of learned over the last couple of years is like when you and this sounds cliche and that, but like when you fail, it doesn't mean that you're not going to succeed. It's on the same It's on the same arc as success, you know what I mean? So failure is just a part of success. It's not like the opposite to it and it doesn't mean that you're going to not succeed. So um, the wins, the losses and all that that all that all helps you um, when you turn professional or whatever it is. Even even we're speaking about grappling earlier that you like I don't know how many people, you know, people lose including myself, you know what I mean? From white white to black, but that's what eventually makes you a better grappler, do you know what I mean? You learn from the losses and that and then the beauty about martial arts is it has a real funny way of like humbling you as well. Like you could be on an absolute tear, you could maybe won your biggest match there at the weekend at Polaris and you go out and then you compete at ADCC and then you get finished in 60 seconds. It doesn't mean that you're not good, it just means that the other person was better on the day and they caught you when, you know, and that's that's just the way it goes. But that's that's I suppose that's the Yeah, that's the biggest thing for me is like it's it's it's gave the lads a It's gave them, you know, clear direction and Ronan has cleared the path for them. Do you know what I mean? They're like, "Right. Um there is a way and we're going to kind of follow follow Ronan and kind of do what Ronan's doing." And in fairness to him, he's a he's a great example to the lads in the gym because he he lives and breathes it and he he doesn't leave any stone unturned. >> Yeah, I'm sure he'll be there at Midlands Combat League October 10th taking selfies as well, Ross. >> Selfies and selling maybe a bit of coffee, huh? >> [laughter] >> Ah, sure look, he can do it all that fella. He can do it all. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Uh Kieran, we As we said, we'll obviously be at ADCC Irish Open Championship this September the 5th in DCU on Saturday. Is there anything you want to say to the people tuning in now that can't wait to see it go down? >> Yeah, thank thanks very much for the support as always. Um if you want to get registered, um it's open on Smoothcomp. We know that some of the masters and that don't or they kind of leave it to the last minute to register because, uh commitments with kids and injuries and everything else that goes with it, but there's a couple of shiny belts there to be collected. Um you might be walking away with a belt. There's a thousand euro for the absolute winners. You know, if you want to try get a few quid together, uh um there's always that opportunity as well. And if you just want to go out and prove yourself and test yourself, obviously, you know, sign up, get registered and uh we'll see you all there. Um yeah, so thanks again for everything. We really appreciate the appreciate the support from the jiu-jitsu community and yourselves and everyone that kind of gets behind us. >> Kieran, thanks a million for your time and we'll see you on Saturday, but >> Cheers, lads. Thanks, Ross. Appreciate it. >> All the best. >> The Anna Joyce show, up the Irish. So, Ross, that was Kieran Davern, man. YOUR FAVORITE KIERAN. BYE. >> [laughter] >> YOU UP THE DAVERN. YOU UP THE DAVERN. >> NEXT Next time we get Jamie on, the real boss. >> Oh, how good is it having the Davern, man? For a week. >> Al- Always good. ADCC's rolling around. I'll have him on the show. Give us the lowdown. Tell us who he's looking forward to seeing. And then I'll tell him who I'm looking forward to seeing. So, uh check out for the Android socials to see our top five competitors looking for this weekend at ADCC Ireland. >> I hope you might didn't get to do your top five. >> Uh I think I I I think uh people be upset if they weren't in your top five. So, therefore Yeah. >> Oh, man. I don't I don't like letting people down, man. It's not my style. >> You're [snorts] great at doing that, aren't you? >> Let people down all the time. All the time. Well, it's not the only show in town. There's a little event going on down in Croke Park. Katie Taylor's last dance by small. Uh this is going to be an absolutely monumental occasion for Irish sport. Katie Taylor, the woman who took uh boxing for women to the next level. The woman who made it an Olympic sport. The woman who changed the game on a professional level. The woman who headlined the Netflix uh as a woman. Unbelievable stuff. She is probably the greatest sports athlete this country's ever seen. Katie Taylor is an icon. She is a sporting hero. She is the best ever do it. And she will do it one last time September 5th in front of 80,000 people in Croke Park. This is not to be missed. I can't wait for it. And she will remain and still undisputed champion of the world. >> Are you sure about that? >> And still. Yeah, she's Look, she she's an absolute hero. Like from having to pretend to be a boy growing up boxing to actually getting in the ring and compete to becoming amateur champion in Ireland to taking the number two ranked amateur boxer in the world, going over to the Olympic Committee and putting on a an exhibition belt to show that female boxing should be be to getting female boxing into the Olympics to then becoming an Olympic world champion. Unbelievable stuff. The trials and tribulations she's been through as an individual, let alone a competitor, are absolutely monumental. And she's done it all without any complaints. She's done it all remaining probably the most humble athlete this country's ever seen. And she's done it all by being a national treasure and an icon. Katie Taylor, we will never see anyone like her ever again. We just won't. Like there can't cannot be another Katie Taylor. Not even on an Irish level, on a female boxing level. And no one will be able to take the sport the way she did. And look, only goats get to fight in the main event in Croke Park. Muhammad Ali and Katie Taylor. That's where we're at, Basma. >> No, you you you went over that quite well. Like if you haven't seen Katie's Netflix documentary, it's a few years old now, but and she's done so much more since. So, they need to do a part two, don't they? But uh I loved watching that. And then we obviously weren't at her first fight back in Ireland. Or she she lost in the 3Arena against Chantelle Cameron. Like that like >> But we were there for the comeback. We were there for the comeback. >> We were there for we were there for the comeback. When people didn't want to go then, we were there. >> Yeah, absolutely. >> Everyone wants to go this weekend. I'm just I'm just interested to see what the buzz is going to be like. Hopefully the weather holds up. Um I'm sure the people that went to EP wouldn't be looking forward to sitting in the rain again this Saturday as well. So Look, we'll see what happens. For people that can't get tickets, it's going to be on RT. Like for other people, it's going to be on the old dodgy box, you know yourself. And for the people with the big books like Ross Cadwell there, you'll be able to get that pay-per-view in. So, if you're around the Clontarf area, make sure to call in and uh >> [laughter] >> you get a free pair of energy glasses on entry as well. For that. I'm really looking forward to this card. Like Croke Park, I was there last weekend for the weekend playing on the Sunday. So, did he sleep there the whole weekend? >> May I haven't left. >> Ever since I wake up there now. >> I'm I'm reporting live from Croke Park right now. I'm not leaving. So, it's going to be interesting to see what sort of show happens with that many people with some big names in the card as well. Um everyone wants to see Katie like bow out with a win obviously Ross. Um the thing is where would like what can you sort of see Katie doing with her career after cuz I'm sure this hanging up the gloves situation conversation happened few years ago and she's still doing the business man. >> Yeah, you know what? I I can see her sort of going off into obscurity. Like she does not someone who actually wants for the spotlight. Uh she recently got married there in the last I'm going to say 2 years. It was a bit of a a secret wedding but not so much a secret just more she doesn't like the spotlight. And I think maybe she goes off and starts a family, who knows. Uh but look as long as she's happy that's all that really matters. She's given enough to the sport. She doesn't necessarily have to give anymore. If she wants to stay involved in the sport, no one's going to stop her. No one's going to not want to see her involved whatsoever. But look, she's after creating an unbelievable night for uh some of Ireland's next great best boxing talent. And look, there's some phenomenal fighters on this card. Uh you know, no parity no Carty or no Carty no parity. Unbelievable Thomas Carty on this card. Um really really excited to see him back in there in heavyweight action against Dave Allen. That one's going to be an absolute blockbuster. There's no way that one's going to decision. Someone's definitely getting knocked out on on that occasion. Uh Paddy Donovan versus Tyrone McKenna. Tyrone McKenna just does not know how to be in a boring fight whatsoever. Every time he fights it's going to be an absolute war. Um Paddy Donovan I think win here now and he he's definitely probably a win away from a world title. So, that's a massive fight for him. >> The thing is that fight actually got criticized quite a lot. >> I think it did in terms of Tyrone McKenna sort of come out of retirement for the fight hasn't been successful in his last in his last few. Paddy Donovan is, you know, one fight away from world title or if he didn't even do this fight, probably fighting for world title next. But at the end of the day, two Irish boxers get to fight in Croke Park in front of 80,000 people. This is massive for their star power. This is massive opportunity for Tyrone McKenna to have one last dance and this is obviously a massive opportunity for Paddy Donovan to go out there make a statement. >> I'm not I'm not hating on you. I'm just I just saw the criticism about it to be honest. >> No, 100% and like same same same with uh Well, not so much criticism next fight but Emma Bradon was doing absolutely no favors by Machin whatsoever. He's going in against Taylor Bevan who's 9 and 0 with eight finishes. It's a very very tough tough match up for Emma Bradon Paul. I think he performs best when the deck is stacked against him. So, let's let's see how Emma Bradon does on this occasion. Really really look forward to that one. Adam Luanian and Bobby Flood both have no opponents to date but I expect both of them to go out there, get their hand raised and put on a show. Two of Ireland's top boxing prospects going forward. Adam is a heavyweight two wins, two finishes. Bobby is two wins, one finish as well. Both very very exciting. But one other match up that I'm really really excited for is Paul Ryan versus Paddy Gallagher. I think two lads who boxed majority of their career on the domestic scene in Ireland. Now we're going to get to put the put on a show on a world level. Really looking forward to seeing that one. And then Me Ball Molly McCann, she'll go in. She's looking to protect that undefeated 4 and 0 boxing record as she goes in against Silvia Del Liguori. So, look, there's a bit of bit of something for everyone on this card. Um Matchroom Boxing putting on the biggest show Irish boxing's ever seen. Uh and probably will be the biggest show a show uh boxing's ever seen. So, look, really looking forward to it. Katie Taylor, the swan song. The last dance. The last hurrah. You better believe it. Unbelievable stuff. The promotion that um or the little vignettes that uh Barry Hearn did in the build-up to this fight was absolutely brilliant. Uh all the stars are lining up for it. The whole country's behind her. The buzz is building for it. And it will be a where were you when moment for Katie Taylor. >> Yeah, man. It's It's going to be a big night. Looking forward to a big weekend. Like what is there not to enjoy? Um we also have to give a shout-out to some Irish competitors that are competing in mixed martial arts this weekend. Uh as SBG Ireland's Shane Mullen returns at PFL on Saturday, the 5th of September. So, that's going to be on in Romania. So, we'll keep you updated on that this weekend. And uh also this show will have come out. Adam Darby will be fighting today. So, >> Adam Darby could be signed to the UFC by the time you're listening to this show. >> Yeah, so let's see what happens to Adam Darby. Shout-out Adam Darby. So, and then Ross, just in the world of the UFC, as it goes down to Paris this weekend as Dan Hooker takes on Nassourdine. >> Now, Sala- Sala- Salahedine. Pernas. >> Sala- Salahedine Nass- Nassourdine. Salahedine Pernas. Ross, this is >> [laughter] >> I'm just going to leave that in. I'm just going to leave that in. Man, that's what happens, man. So, at the moment, the votes are in, Ross. Who do people think is going to win this weekend? Dan Hooker or team Salahedine Pernas? >> [laughter] >> Let's see if our fans are casuals. I'm going to say Parnasse. >> No, that's about 52% on Hooker 10 of 48% Salahdine Parnasse, bro. >> Well, Oi, I'm going to say put your house on Salahdine Parnasse this weekend. I feel like he is an absolute elite fighter and he will definitely get to show that this weekend in Paris. I'm waiting to see the ovation he comes out to. It's going to be huge noise for uh the UFC in Paris. Uh Fares Ziam versus Salahdine on the co-main event. That could easily be fight of the night. And then also we get to see MVP back in there against Nourdine Rouzbehian. So, uh some really really cool matchups in there. Looking forward to seeing them all. Uh Other cool sort of uh fights uh Mario Pinto at heavyweight versus Roan Carneiro. And what has Nathaniel Wood done to receive the disrespect being uh on the undercard? He should 100% be ranked. Um I look forward to seeing him get out there and do business. >> Yeah, did you say Chris Camozzi? >> No, the Pink Panther will also be back in action as well, so. >> Yeah, I'm working on Saturday. Yeah, yeah, cuz Chris Camozzi got a big portion and lost. It's mad. Uh speaking of putting your house in a Magomed Ankalaev was defeated by song of the weekend, Ross. You would put your You wouldn't put your house on that, would you? >> No, absolutely not, but sure look, that's what happens in all these fights. People can say they're mismatched. Much as someone's really really heavy favorite, but we get to find out come fight night in the octagon who is the champ. >> Yeah, exactly. All right, Ross, we're going to wrap things up there. Everyone, thank you Thank you very much for tuning in. Keep an eye on our page for all the ADCC action that's coming out this week. This is the only place to check out for all the action, as always, but um yeah, then Katie Taylor fight week and the UFC is going down in France. Um we want to give a shoutout to Shane Moran fighting on BFL in Romania this weekend.
