Combat Confidential speaks with Maximus Lally immediately after Cage Warriors 210, where he stayed undefeated despite being knocked down early. Lally describes getting caught in a neck attack, trusting his grappling experience since age ten, solidifying position, and finishing the fight; he compares the moment to his previous bout and says the choke never fully locked. He reflects on a reported sixteen-fight win streak across amateur and pro, saying gym losses keep him grounded and that he fights detached from outcomes while prioritizing exciting performances for fans. Discussing rumors of Cage Warriors moving to the 3Arena, he says big fights are needed to sell out the venue, that he has wanted to fight there since childhood, and cites watching UFC fight nights there featuring Connor and Paddy Holland as core memories. He takes matchmaking one fight at a time with no next opponent in mind, citing injuries and life uncertainty among peers. On Thailand camps, he explains December–January trips when Irish training slows, names George, Frank, Connor, and Alex at Bangtail, and estimates four or five years of visiting since his amateur days.

Let's [music] scoot over just for [singing] us a little bit. Perfect. Right there. >> All right, Max. >> Yes, sir. >> Congratulations, my friend. >> Thank you, my man. >> Yeah. Uh, talk to me about it. Like, so early into it, you got you got knocked down pretty quick. Pretty quickly like what what was what was going through your head like at that moment? >> Get up. [laughter] >> Yeah. Just um >> Were you Were you phased by it or >> Yeah. know like um to be honest like I I was I was comfortable comfortable in me in me stance and I just felt remember it was on me and I was like [ __ ] he's out there catching me um I don't know what I came up on but I remember he snatched on me neck >> and I I felt like me neck had a good angle and I know if I solidify my position on anyone like I'll know I'll keep you there and I'll do a lot of damage you know what I mean? Um so yeah that's the first thing I looked to solidify managed to solidify it and um yeah I was uh you know I got I got the finish. Um when when he when he had your neck there um >> like how deep was it from from the spectator's point of view or from on on the screen it looked pretty solid and us in here we were worried for a second. We were all tapping our feet but so when when he came out of it uh we're all happy but like how how significant was it for you? I remember like this happened to me last fight. Um like like I know if like something's I'm I'm grappling I'm grappling since I'm like 10 years old, you know what I mean? And he was like giving a good squeeze, but I know I know my angles. I know where I need to be. And he wasn't he didn't have a solidified whatsoever. >> Um and I I I got me position and then I start trying to cave his head in to get him back. You know what I mean? As as it goes in this sport, you know what I mean? It's a doggy dog sport. >> I got caught and I was fortunate enough to capitalize. Um yeah, he's he's he's a tough guy, a game lad. So, um yeah, I'll work on on obviously I'm not too happy with that, but um we'll work on it and we'll get better. That's that's what it's about. >> Okay. How did you kind of like mentally prepare, you know, coming into this? Like what what do you do? Like you have an incredible win streak. If you even if you count your uh your amateurs, your uh I think Stephen just said a little bit ago, is it 16 now? >> I'll be honest, right? It's it's it's like whatever 16 fights I get me ass handed to me in the gym day in day out. >> Well, how do you say mentally focused? Because that's that is a lot of pressure, you know, to be honest. I I get it, but like like when I fight, I'm honestly I'm detached from the result. Okay. >> Like I want to I want to I want to excite people. I want to perform. That's that's the honest truth. I am so familiar with losing. Like I lose all the time in the gym. I get me ass handed to me in the gym week in week out. Look, I'm probably if you had to ask a lot of people, you know, I can go in there and I can perform. Yeah, whatever. That's all I care about is going in and performing. Winning, losing, that's a part of life. It's it's a part of the sport. So, when I go in there and I fight, I'm detached from the result. I just want to go in and performing and and and the most important thing for me is, you know, people being excited about that, you know, people being like Max's fighting. I want to watch that. That that's that's what's important to me. And I'll do that for as long as I can. That's the Godest truth. Yeah. >> Yeah. So there's a there's a lot of rumors going around about maybe uh Cage Warriors going to Tree Arena. Yeah. >> Um what what are your thoughts on that? How do you feel about that? >> They need big fights to sell out the tree arena, you know what I mean? Huge fights to sell out the tree arena. So I'm 100% down for that. >> And [snorts] you know, whoever whoever cage warrior see fit to give me. I'll be I'll be game. I'll be in there, you know. Um and yeah, like as I said, big fights sell out the tree arena. That's been a goal of mine to fight there since I'm a young kid. So So let's do it. Yeah. What what would it mean to you to to be able to just to perform at arguably the country's, you know, kind of greatest venue? >> You know, there's been some legends performing there like specifically I obviously remember like two UFC fight nights um when obviously Connor headlined and then when Patty Huland headlined and like those are core memories for me as a kid, you know what I mean? >> Yeah. >> And I remember like seeing them and it's like I'll be there one day. You know what I mean? And now I feel like I'm in touch and distance. So if we can do the three arena, >> we're almost there. >> 100%. Let's do it. You know what I mean? Let's let's do it. >> Absolutely. Uh, do you have uh like anyone in mind to for your next >> to be honest? No, I'm I'm like >> I know you like to take it fight by fight. >> I know. And I always get this question, but like me me mindset and I I don't like this is the god honest truth. Like nothing's guaranteed. And that's the way I look at this sport, you know what I mean? I have friends who obviously have had freaking injuries and have to stop competing. I've had I've had like friends whose whose uh relatives have suddenly passed away, you know, and it's like let's it's like nothing's guaranteed, you know what I mean? So that's why I take it a fight at a time. Whatever I'm offered, I'm offered, you know what I mean? But I don't look past who's in front of me ever, and I never will, you know? >> Okay. Now, I know a lot of fighters uh have spent a lot of time in Thailand, and I think it's it's uh trying to say, it's definitely helped um in what I've seen of the Irish fighters that go over there. What What do you see as like your the key benefit of being able to uh to travel to Thailand and uh train at some of these gyms? Yeah. Like so specifically for myself, um you know, I I always go over especially like the months of December, January, just because the training over here slows down over Christmas. >> And the weather's better. >> And the weather's better. The weather's better. I'm not a fan of the cold, bro. You know what I mean? As much as I love Ireland, Ireland's me home. Yeah. I'm not a fan of the cold. So I I always try to go over for December, January. But um all the guys always go out to Bangtail to George, Frank, uh Connor, Alex, all the guys out there, and they always look after me very well. I've been going out there since I'm an amateur, you know what I mean? I think I'm going there four or five years now. And yeah, it's it's a great place to go out and train and obviously you get to go with a lot of a lot of high level guys. So, um yeah, I always go over December, January just just because of the weather and the training slowing down. I like to train all year round and Yeah. >> Thank you. All right. Look, man. Uh I will leave you to uh get on with the rest of your day, man. But congratulations. >> Um killer work and until next time. Okay. >> Yeah. Thank you, my man. >> Till Arena. >> Until the tree arena, my man. Yeah. Thanks. >> Pleasure, man. Appreciate it. confidential. [music] Let's go. [music]
