Energized's "The Face Off" previews the IUR featherweight title bout between champion Ruairi Lavery of Team Torres and challenger Andrew Barrett of SPG Tullamore, scheduled for IUR 4 on 4 June 2022. Both fighters downplay belts and medals, framing the matchup as a chance to test themselves against a top opponent. Barrett cites his national lightweight gold against Solomon and his IMA tournament run; Lavery notes he first noticed Barrett after his win over Max and his lightweight tournament results. Barrett says featherweight is an easy cut with coach Shane Smith at Combat Lab; Lavery describes still finding his style despite six amateur wins and three first-round submissions. Barrett calls Lavery one of the most well-rounded amateurs he has faced and wants a full MMA fight rather than a one-dimensional battle. Lavery expects hometown energy in his fifth IUR appearance, having finished his previous four IUR bouts in the first round; Barrett says he relishes hostile crowds. Lavery plans several more amateur fights in 2022 before turning pro; Barrett targets 10–15 bouts this year and already had four wins in 2022. They exchange brief respectful closing remarks, with Barrett pointing to SPG Tullamore teammates Jordan and Ronin on the card.

[Music] [Applause] okay what's going on guys welcome to a brand new episode of energized the face off rush introduce the guest man today we have the euro fighting championship featherweight toilet flight between the champion fighting out of team torres rory lavery and the challenger fighting out of spg tullamore andrew barrett lads how are you doing doing great boys doing great feeling energized all good friends by the way becky mclean is in the background there so uh for everyone tuned in the main man is in the house he is indeed uh rory tell us this uh how does it feel to be defending your featherweight title in your hometown yeah to be honest please i don't really think about the belt too much it's like the amateur balls they are good don't get me wrong but like they don't mean much like do that you know what i mean it's it's good to get the belt it's good to [ __ ] get all the experience everything but then they're always andrew obviously you you picked up a gold medal at the national championships um have you become addicted to the gold is this something that you want to add to you it's your uh resume exactly but i i agree with rory i think it's uh the competition is more important than uh the gold medals or the awards or the belts the reason why i want to fight for that iur title is not because of the iur title is because rory lavry is a top quality opponent and i want to face off against him same reason why i wanted that gold medal i was fighting a top quality opponent in solomon to be put in front of him to have that energy to test myself against that level uh that was truly exciting and that's what i'm out there looking for if you don't want the belt or the gold medals lads you can send them to my gaff [Laughter] rory what do you make of andrew as an opponent because he's on a tear at the moment um yeah well the first time i heard of andre was when he fought max at some stage last year and attack he was at the show when he said that way andrew's very good so i watched the fight i was like [ __ ] he is good and then obviously saying that he had really good results in that lightweight tournament i watched it i watched it all and um he really impressed me and here we are you know what i mean and andrew uh obviously this voyage is going to happen a featherweight you're the national champion at lightweight and how do you feel competing at featherweight as opposed to lightweight uh honestly boys the for nationals we have to weigh in same day so we can't afford to make the same kind of coat we would uh when we're doing day before featherweight's a very easy way for me to make um especially with true my strength and conditioning coach shane smith from combat lab uh this was the smoothest course when i thought ironman that i've ever made so uh featherweights nice and easy for me and rory um uh i've seen some of your fights and i've looked at your record you have you have six wins and three of them are by first round submission do you feel that's when you're at your best when the bodies are dry and you get into the grappling exchanges and to be honest i don't i don't know i just sort of at my level now i'm sort of still finding out my style still finding out what i'm about so i just go in there see what happens if i end up on top i try to meet him i'm always trying to lock the finish always but to be honest because i'm still trying to figure out themselves and then andrew obviously you're you're known for your your 27 minutes of hit hill at the ima tournament to become national champion what way do you expect this for you to go i think lavry's a probably one of the most mixed martial artists i thought so far he's like well-rounded i don't think there's like a clear opening i feel like in previous fights i've had i thought maybe like higher level in certain skills but not as high level across the board library brings uh skills in every area of the game and honestly that's one of the things that excites me the most about this fight uh this is gonna be a mixed martial arts about not a kickboxing bout not a wrestling not a jujitsu match this is going to be a mixed martial arts true and true uh unadulterated nice and clean that's the way i want it and i'll be able to show all of my skills in the fight rather than focusing on trying to aim at my opponent's weaknesses yeah i think it is a definitely two of the top range um martial artists in the country and rory what's it going to be like for you to fight in your hometown in a packed-out arena where that you know obviously having a hometown support yeah absolutely and i think this would be my fifth fight in yuri and four previous ones i've finished them all in the first round so with definitely it definitely plays a part in me fighting in yuri um it's handy like the venue's five minutes away from the house i said about all day go down about two hours before the fight got warmed up fight and then you know what i mean it's all i always bring it when i'm near it's just the energy and you're it's different especially when you get a good walk that song going everybody's hearing it i'm all and then andrew i feel like you're someone who actually would relish the chance to go into the lions then are you happy almost being the away fighter a hundred percent uh when i when i watched rory pick up a very good win to win that title uh i love the energy in the room i love the fact that all his friends family were shouting for him uh that's not a malicious thing on me i just love that pressure stepping into that cage i fought in england against uh crowds that were against me i fought in ireland against crowds that were against me and uh honestly the thing i look forward to the most the image i uh have in my mind is that whole crowd going quiet and all i can hear is my coach karen davern my coach shane smith and my teammates shouting my name and that's why you cannot miss are you you're four on june 4th for the fedway title lavery versus barrett you can buy the pay-per-view on rory's instagram and you can also buy a pay-per-view on andrew's instagram and ross we will be there yeah we're we're going to make a up to euro this time though this will be our first year championships live and in person so uh i'm not gonna lie decky mclean has really stacked the deck for this one there's some unbelievable fights on this card and i don't know if this is gonna be the last face-off we see before uh for the june and fourth opener but um i'm really looking forward to this one this is one of the fights that we picked out this is a two top martial artist so rory do you feel like there's gonna be any extra pressure on you defending your belt in front of all your friends and family this on this occasion um it's like it it's fun leading up to it but when it comes time to fight it's like you have to switch on i just take a deep breath close my eyes and i'm in the moment all the time i don't care what's going on around me it's just i'm thinking about what i'm going to do and thinking about mcgill my coach always says focus it's like sometimes people say focus but you don't really understand what focus is until until you've learned how to focus if that makes sense it's a bit of a mild one like but not really like it is good having everybody there but i take a deep breath and it's the same thing fighting area fighting in england where you don't know nobody it's the same thing for me to be honest rory what are you what are you what's your sort of 2022 look like when you're looking at the camera year because like there's been cars just added and added like this one's obviously going to be a huge and this is probably one of the biggest cards of the year for in in ireland like what is there are you planning on getting other cards this year and staying active um yeah absolutely well like i had three fights over next seven weeks and i thought and i fought a guy in in england and then i obviously fought um the guy in europe and now i'm up again this will be the fourth fight on rooney in june so i'm looking at another maybe three four five fights and then start to lock towards the pro ranks maybe and andrew what about yourself uh you're not most known for 27 minutes of hell but like how active are you looking to be this year really active that most active i've been of any years i'm hoping to get between 10 to 15 fights for the year is gone and that's very possible with imf's uh fighting day after day after day i've already rocked up four fights uh four wins in this year as it is um i think activity is really important i think that experience is really important i think it shows holes in my games you know ev every fight was some lesson i had to learn that i had to pull back something back and change something going into the next one and uh the more and more i'm in there the more and more i just feel nice comfortable relaxed is my home and i i get to put on a show for everybody rory uh i just want to jump in here because i i was looking up your topology and i see one name on your record that i'm very interested in are you any relation to gary lavery no no i [ __ ] i onboarded that guy and then he started playing football again i don't know what happened him after i beat him i thought maybe he got in there against your brother at one stage at home no no no and then the referee the referee in that fight his second name was also it's a bit of a model it was your dad oh my god that was probably the most random things i've ever seen i was like i was like did he's going to get in here against his brother because that's ruthless that is ruthless one thing that's been proven this like is the there's respect that's shown and like that's one thing we know about irishmate the respect being shown towards each fighter uh but that's before we wrap things up is there anything you want to say to each other uh do you want to like is there anything at all you want to say to each other in the build-up to world war 4 on the sixth uh the fourth of june um not in in particular for me to be honest it's just another fight um celebrate celebrate for a day after then move the [ __ ] on and don't get too high and move on be honest yeah the only thing i have to say is i'm looking forward to going in there looking to test myself against honestly i think a true mixed martial art is someone who combines all their skills together and uh i'm looking to show off the level of my game but not also just my game but spg total mower and i think you're going to see that with jordan uh with ronin and maybe even a few other fighters on that card if we can get squeeze them in there uh there's a lot of up-and-coming talents on our team and we get to show the level of what we're doing but all the hard work we're putting in and uh on this big stage performance as well yeah before we go rory sorry was there anyone else who you wanted to shout out who's also fighting on the car from king's harris halfway of a squad who would be here i'll definitely shout out everybody out but yeah the more these shows are putting on the more show on the level of our gym we're still people are starting to see it now we're all still a lot of amateurs obviously we've decked our cage warriors we have marching we've died at home in the pro ranks but in years to come you'll see the likes of all of us running the proacts and i'm sure it's the same i'm sure a lot of jumps around aren't the same the level in ireland at the moment is [ __ ] ridiculous yes the highest like in england you see all these people fighting bombs you don't get that in ireland especially on decky's show like a lot of the matches he's made it's [ __ ] you don't get it on the other show in ireland you better believe it so there you have it your uh fighting championship four on the fourth of june don't miss it be there be square and thanks a million boat lads for coming on really appreciate your time if you are watching this video make sure to like share subscribe and as always stay in it energize up the irish been sussing you guys a couple of times i've seen a couple of clips i think you're doing some interviews with dylan moore and that i i saw so keep going keep up the good walkers
