Fansview Combat Sports host Brandon Shields interviews Ionella Adam ahead of her semi-pro K1 bout in Romania on Saturday, 5 September 2026—her first fight outside Ireland. Adam says preparation has been strong after her first career loss, a close decision to Katie, whom she describes as a multi-time world champion. Shane and Kevin at SBG helped her reset mentally, emphasizing that K1 is a step toward MMA and upcoming world-level goals rather than her end sport. Adam praises training on the SBG pro team alongside fighters such as Shane Mullen and Nahome Wii, credits the gym and John Kavanagh for building her confidence, and states her long-term aim is PFL and then UFC while representing Ireland. She discusses fighting in Romania in front of family while carrying both Irish and Romanian identity, predicts a first-round head-kick finish against her unnamed opponent, and outlines representing Ireland at the World Championships in Madrid—with a planned K1 pro debut afterward—before thanking family, gym staff, teammates, supporters, and new sponsor Dental Clinic Arena.

My name is Brandon Shields, partnered up with Fan View Combat Sport. Today I'm here with >> Yanella Adamella has a fight coming up on the 5th of September, isn't it? >> Yeah, next week on Saturday. >> Next Saturday over in Romania, isn't it? >> Yeah. Dova >> that is semi pro K1, isn't it? >> Yeah. No shimpad and hope so. 10 blows. Hope so. >> So, how are you feeling? How was your preparation been towards this one? >> Uh, it was very it was very good. I actually, you know, I lost my last fight, so I'm very motivated. Basically, I'm very surprised. I was the next day I was getting back to the gym and I was like, I want to smash this girl up like I'm going to kill this. But I'm feeling good. I'm feeling great. I'm not stressed and I'm very surprised of this. >> And you're you're a good trainer partner of mine. So, I've seen you first hand in the gym, sharp as a standing light, as we call you. >> What has it been like for you dealing? Obviously, you've never lost before. So when your last fight come up against your first loss, how did you deal with that mentally in preparation for this fight? >> Uh basically straight away after I lost the fight, I was mentally [ __ ] I was uh I was bad in the changing room. But I was lucky that I had Shane and Kev beside me and they told me and I was like why why you're why you're sad for like it's just a fight. Like you're this is not your sport. This is not what you want to do. You're just getting ready for the world. You're going to win on the world. And they said to me, you're doing MMA. You don't have to be sad. You have another fight booked then you're going to prove everybody why you can do it. And that was uh it was exactly straight away I was happy and I was just very good cuz I was lucky about my family was there and just they looked at me and I was like why you wear sir? She at least you didn't got knocked out. you didn't get like dropped. You just lost by decision like maybe two or three points but mentally I was I was a bit [ __ ] up and I was I was lucky by because I had Shane and they they just pushed me pushed me to train like Kevin and Shane and I was just training training training and trying to to not to not be like um oh I lost there why to watch again and again. I just watched the fight and I was very proud of me of me of that experience and I was very proud to fight with Katie like is Katie is like one of the best fighter I ever fought before like she she's um she's like multiply world champion and I just had a great experience and I know the next girl can be the same level as us like >> definitely and they're surrounded by some of the best in the country like training here in SJ you can see the ring behind me like There's plenty of top fighters from PFL, UFC down to the just the amateur or the novice stage like from the very bottom to the very top. We have some of the best fighters in the country in this gym. >> It's one of the best chance that you can get like a fighter. I uh I'm very proud to be in this gym and I'm very proud to train on the pro team like alongside Nahome Wii, Shane Mulan, like Conor McGregor was here. That was the best thing that you a lot of fighters that are here like pro people and that's the best thing that you can you can experience like a fighter and you can learn as well from them like I was I was a very shy fighter before coming SVG. I was an SVG tala before but I wasn't the same I'm the confidence and the way I am today is because of Shane and Nome and other fighters. at home you know his confidence and you know the way he does and he does just don't give a bollocks about people and I start being the same and I think that helps me like a fighter you have to be nuts you have to be crazy you have to you have to be sick in the head and what you can what you can experience like a fighter I recommend everyone's try SBG try SBG and you're going to love MMA more than you did before I was I started being in love with with MMA when I met John Kavanaaugh like I was in love with MMA but I start being in love more than I was you know so I was like every time when I'm when I'm training in the pro team I'm just seeing PFL or UFC the next goal for me is PFL definitely and then the next would be UFC I'm still seeing that contract coming up that was like you like the SBG just make you make you chase that dream every day every day it's not >> it's maybe because of Connor Conor honor was just prove everybody that SBG is the best. >> Prove to everybody that just a small kid from a small town can go and make it big and do better than anyone else has done it before in the past. >> Is a is a very is a very it's a very big thing for me to represent Ireland to be honest. I'm uh I'm very proud to represent Ireland in Romania right now. It's just I love Ireland. I Ireland is I'm feeling like home here, you know. It's I can't wait to to carry the flag on the PFL stage. will be will be a good thing for me. And >> how does it feel for you? Like obviously you're born Romanian, so how does it feel for you to fight in your home country as well as representing your other home country? >> Ah, that's a good thing actually. Uh I I'm I'm feeling very very weird to be honest because it's my first time fighting out of Ireland. Like I never fought before out of Ireland. So I was I'm very I'm very I'm very very happy to be honest fighting in front of my family like my grandparents my uh my uncles are there my cousins my everyone is there so it's very it's a very big thing for me to carry both flags as well but yeah I was just um it's just is a return back home but this time is a fight it's not a holiday anymore it's just like being in the war you know So I just can say representing both countries for me in this moment is one of the best thing cuz Ireland is Ireland is my home and the other one is my other home but I just I just can I I will keep them from on me every time you know >> and I say it's a surreal experience because you're not only representing one home country representing both home countries and showing the level that you're actually at over in a different country. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. It's like they they don't know what they like I don't know. They're not ready for what's coming cuz me and Shane were coming from SBG. They don't know what the training is here. The training is this gym is the best gym in the world. This is the best gym that you can ever train in. And to be honest, just they are not ready for me. And the girl I'm I'm fighting, I can tell you, will be straight away first round knock. I I just say head kick >> head kick. She will drop and that will be done. She's not ready for me. And actually, I I just I just say I'm the best fighter in the girl category in in in this sport. Like I can beat Yeah, but the last fight was [ __ ] But I still beat Katie. I still punch her around. like was was was a good fight, but I still I never I never going to I never going to lose a fight by an I never I was just I would just knock the girls out. >> And every loss is a lesson at the end of the day. Like no matter where you come from, John Cavner has to say and he said it best. There's no losses in this game. There's only lessons. But that was actually my next question for you. What's your thoughts on your opponent as fighter? >> What I think about the fight the opponent before the fight? >> Yeah. What do you think of her skill set coming into this fight against you? >> This girl will just bring nothing in. She she's she's shy. Like she's she's [ __ ] And I just I'm not going to be I'm not going to be nice before a fight as well. Like my last fight, I was talking [ __ ] about Katie. I was like, I'm going to smash this girl up. I'm going to kill her. I'm not going to trying to be soft. And even at the face of she's the girl I'm fighting, she's very she's looking at me trying to make me soft. [ __ ] you. Like I'm just here to kill you. Like what I think is it doesn't matter. Like I see I see her trainings cuz her coach follows me and I see her running on the stairs, going out for a run every day. [ __ ] you. You're not the you're not ready for me. I was just born to be a fighter and I'm just going to prove you like [ __ ] your kids. >> And we love to hear it. We love the confidence. We're all like that out with the gyms. You know what I mean? And we all pack each other down to the ground. The next question for you is, aside from that fully over in Romania, how would it feel for you to be able to represent or in the World Championships in Madrid? >> The best thing ever that happened to me in this career, bro, actually like when when Shane was telling me that I'm going to go represent Ireland in Madrid, I was like, "Bro, can't wait to carry the the belt back home in Ireland. I'll be the world champion. I'll be a world champion of that would be that would be crazy. I I'll just I would just be a lot of knockouts there, bro. I promise you will be hard cuz I will have a head gear. I will just I'll just knock the girls. I'll take my my belt back home and carry the flat there. It will be will be a good will be good experience as well. And I was thinking to to do my my K1 pro debut after the world because I will have a lot of fights there. So definitely would be good for still chasing MMA dream. Still chasing. And I my my dream is to be an MMA uh world champion as well straight away after the K1 worlds. We >> love to hear it. And we've no doubt that you'll bring back that gold medal for the gym. >> Ah, bro. Be a belt. We'll be a belt. We'll just put the belt in here, bro. It'll be a Everybody have to remember this name. So, we have to put that there, bro. [laughter] >> You hear Adam? Remember the name. Is there any closing statement that you'd like to give to your opponent in the show? Anyone you'd like to thank for your help and collaboration? I uh I want to thank first my family for their support means a lot for me then the next is the gym teammates coaches and I want to thank my uh sponsors especially my new sponsor that I actually announced today and I want to I want to thank uh Dental Clinic Arena is based in Brussel in Belgium and is like open up open up in uh my city where I was born and actually it's a big thing and he's coming to my fight as well and means a lot. His uh his his um his support means a lot to me and I just want to thank him for uh just help me to follow my uh my dream and just being uh being there and uh I want to thank everybody that believes in me even after my last fight cuz uh most of the people just let me say ah she lost it but most of them just being there for me. So, I want to I just want to thank them and I just just going to prove it on Saturday. Next Saturday, I'm just going to prove that never have to top me. I'm just gonna just gonna smash the girl up and what's next. It's it's big. >> It's big. We love to hear it. Right. Well, I've been Brandon SH fan combat sports.
